Got your letter today.  I'm out  on the porch starting a letter with my coffee cup close at hand & some sweets.  Sweets I shouldn't eat but not enough will power.

Wed nite Viola Seaquist came over & we had a nice visit.  I asked about the meeting at church they had when we were gone.  I guess I shouldn't have.  The congregation is divided.  At the beginning Passingers were very close with Gary & family & now they're against him.  Son Tim P. even went to the Synod office -- they want him gone now!  The big thing everything is so secretive & he doesn't do visitation.  And if he visits the nursing homes, etc. he doesn't offer to pray.  Bernie Bloom is in a nursing home & Irene was there when the pastor visited.  Irene wanted to ask him to pray but she chickened out.  A sick or shut in member shouldn't have to ask a pastor to offer a prayer.  That is part of his calling.  We have about 600 members on the roll must be some deadwood) & not even 1/4 attend church & the Sun. School is pitiful. It upsets me but all we can do is to pray for our church.

Kim is still upset.  The gym is her space so when she teaches Health it is in various class rooms.  This year due to a change in the health class curr currucillum cure curriculum (looked it up & still can't remember the correct spelling but I hope you can figure it out they are uniting the 9th & 10th grade classes (it's for 9th grade) so Kim will have 44 students & no classroom will hold that many kids.  The job has been posted & a teacher at Abraxas has applied for it.  A big guy who was in sports.   Kim says hire him as maybe his size will help keep the kids in order.  A few have applied for Wrrn Hi job.  Kim hopes one fellow who teaches grade school phy ed will retire next year & she would apply for the job.  She has some seniority & it might be enough.  That's her dream.

The new Readers Digest has some interesting articles esp. one on back pain & one on road rage.

It was interesting to read the letters in response to the article on foods for men & women.  Barb fixes herself a tofu meal.  Now she has gotten a food powder with tofu she adds to her smoothies.  She has them for lunch.

Barb got her pictures & there are 2 of Eddie that are so good.  One in Middleton where was Andy when Barb was taking pictures) & one at the lake.  We're getting some reprints.  A cute one of Boxer also.

Fri. we went to Jamestown -- Lakewood Mall.  Then to Bemus Point & the Italian Fisherman.  We sat on the porch & viewed Lake Chautauqua.  It's in the vicinity of The Surf Club & Barb is familiar with that!   I had a fish sandwich & Barb a salad.

We stopped at WalMart & I got a crochet hook like Joyce had so maybe I'll get started on something.  It has a hook on both ends & you use double yarn.

We've had a little rain but not enough so they're asking people to conserve & save water -- don't keep the water running when brushing teeth -- shorter showers, full loads of dishes & clothes.  That's not hard.  It's the people with wells who suffer the most.

Walked over town this A.M. to the farmer's mkt & got 2 qts blueberries.  Maybe I'll make a blueberry pie.  I made a peanut butter pie after lunch.  It's so easy & you freeze it.  Dale likes them.

I'm ready for fall & to wear clothes with collars & not feel too hot.  Or clothes made of little heavier material.  Haven't bo't any thing new for fall -- haven't seen anything I really like in my price range.  They say plaids are coming back & I have 2 plaid skirts, several years old, & I'd like new tops for them.  Feels like nap time.  More later.

KMart changed their shelves -- different aisles & some of them are not full.  I needed bags for the compactor & they didn't have any so Dale went to Sears & got a pkg. for me.  I'm lost without it.

I'm watching the Mets vs. San. Fran. & they have a big crowd for the game.  It will be on ESPN Sun nite & again it's on TV on Mon. NY channel WB 11.

On the Penn State channel we watched the Auction, no, not the auction, the Antique Roadshow & it was from Madison.  Lots of goodies that would bring dollars.  At the beginning of the show they showed the State Capitol & surrounding areas & Dale said "I've seen that."

Don Glendenning is in the booth with Seaver & Thorne & they're talking "old times" & it's fun to hear them. They were talking about the Pirates & their great teams -- winning teams.  He was on the '69 Mets team that won the series.

Today Barb wanted to go to the bank at the Mall & I went along & went into the shoe store.  Got a pair of Dexter shoes on sale.  In brown (only color) & haven't had a pr. of brown shoes for years.  Thicker soles -- good walking shoe & they are so comfortable.  And they were only $29.98.  Couldn't pass them up & I'm glad I got them.  Slip ons.

Sun the 26th

I think today we heard a rebuttal at church.  Gary didn't preach on the gospel lesson but form Jeremiah, when he was upset by his followers.  It was like he was comparing his situation to Jeremiah -- the frustrations, the people, etc.  But I'm sure it didn't help, only flamed the fire.  It sounded like he means we have to take him until he decides to retire.  Also 3 council members resigned:  Patty Phillips, Lisa Passinger (Tim's wife) & Patty Morelli.  All are faithful members.  I never dreamed it was this bad -- you two are my sounding board -- the others aren't that interested.  If you're tired of it, you can skip over it!

Each one of us is watching golf on 3 different TVs.  What an exciting time -- Tiger & Jim Furyk are on their 7th hole to break a tie.,  Finally it's over & Tiger wins.

Just mailed a letter today & here I'm starting a letter.

But Barb called from Lynn's to say the van had a flat tire -- a 1 1/2-2" screw in it.  Barb was upset.  Kim came over & both of us had similar thoughts.  Scott is allowed to use power tools & we wondered if he did it.  The screw was in below the surface of the tire, like you do when you screw into wood & then you fill it with filler.  At first Barb wouldn't believe it but she came around.  We think the screw would have to be upright to go all the way into the tire.  And Scott is the type to do something like that.  Dale fixed the tire with  a plug.  It just makes one wonder.  Scott was the one who discovered it.  I think he is too young to use power tools.  They should be locked up.  Dale agrees with us.

I'm watching the Golf Channel with a preview of the British Open that starts tomorrow.  I'll have to remember to turn TV on at 8 A.M.  It's been very interesting to see the golf course, some of the activities & the area.

We had a nice time at the luncheon today.  Food & fellowship was good.  7 of us.

Back to golf.  They took a vote on which open the viewers preferred:  U.S. Open or British Open.  British open won 65% to 35%.   I like the Brit Open because there are more long grasses and other hazards to keep the golfers on their toes.

Fri the 20th.

Barb got Scott to admit he put the screw in the tire.  Bob was pretty upset & he called later in the evening & said that we should buy a new tire & Scott will have to pay for it out of his birthday money.  He tried to blame it on a friend saying he gave him the idea.  He doesn't need any help to get into mischief.  Lynn is always so ware of what people will think. When Dale had his problems I'm sure there was gossip but I held my head high & let Dale know we loved him no matter what.  I'm sure it wasn't easy on Dad.

The other nite our toaster oven started to smoke.  Dale had one in the attic he got from points at Shults.  He's had it several years, but it didn't work - the magnet holding the toasting lever down wasn't strong enough to keep it down.  Dale looked at KMart but they didn't have the make we wanted./  This aft. we went to the mall & Bon Ton had a Black & Decker toaster oven on sale so we got one.  It has become a necessity.  Can't make sandwiches without it.  It works fine.

Been watching the British Open most of the time.  Did get rolls baked before 9 A.M. when it came on TV.

Barb brought suitcases from the attic so I'm starting to think of what clothes I'll want.  See what needs to be washed, ironed, etc.  I have a list made so I can check things off.

Ruth will be 88, I think, on Fri. Aug 3rd so we can help her celebrate.

I hope JoAnna's mother is doing better by now.  You proved you could do all the work by yourselves but it's better when the folks are there to hep.  Bet you were tired out, but happy, when the day was over.

Finally called Rose S. & she said Jamie M. told her 5 years ago he had aids & wouldn't live a long life.

Rose had a 4 bypass heart operation.  It's slow for her to get her strength back & she's always been a little negative but I tried to cheer her up.  I can when I haven't gone thru it & hope I never have to.  Karen's daughter love Toronto & has a Chinese boyfriend & Rose wonders about that.  Jim's oldest daughter is in grad school at U. of Indiana, in Indiana.  The youngest girl finished her first year at Pitt.  And Evan (Karen)( start at Warren Hi in the fall.  He wants to go to Penn State.

Sun. the 22nd.  Next Sun get ready for the Nelson invasion!

Roger preached today.  And Fran was back as organist for today.  Several of us went to the organ to thank her & give her a hug.  Wish she could come back.  We'll see you all before long.  I am looking forward to the visit.

You "travelog" came on Thurs & I sat & read it all taking about 1/2 hr. Dale had a lunch meeting at work so I wasn't interrupted. I can see you had a wonderful time seeing many interesting places in history. Julianna is so cute & getting big. I can see the boys love their cousin. They looked so in their straw hats. Lots of miles in 10 days.

My eye is till every red but feels good. I have to put drops in it for 4 week. 4 drops a day, then 3, 2, & 1. So I needed more drops as the bottle is very small & sometimes I miss. I was shocked at the price -- had forgotten how expensive they were. $47.25. Was glad I had enough money in my wallet. But eye sight is worth it.

Dale rescued a microwave thrown away at work.  Mainly because he wanted to see what he could do with it.  It was too noisy.  He said they are not worth getting fixed but he had to satisfy his curiosity.

I'm happy baseball is back & the Mets won 2 out of 3 against the Braves in Atlanta.  They were excellent games, well played & exciting.

As the boys get older, I find it hard to find cards I like so I've gotten cards alike for each one.  I'm sure they don't mind as long as they find something special inside.

I'm watching baseball -- Cleveland vs. Baltimore.  Tied score 2-2.  We also can get Pittsburgh games & they are at Houston.

The nurse was surprised to see my age.  She asked me "to what do I attribute my looking younger than 80".  I never know what to say, so I say "it must be my Swedish genes".  She also mentioned smoking as an aging agent.

I finally got some ambition & did some ironing after lunch.  Don't iron that often but a few items need a pressing.

This A.M. we went to the Mall.  Penney's closes the 21st.  I found a housecoat with a zipper in front & got it.  40% off original price.  We still look for bargains.  I wore sunglasses inside the Mall as my eye looks pretty ugly but no pain or anything.  Guess I'll have to wear them to church Palm Sun. as much as I hate to.

They've shown Pittsburgh's new ballpark on TV & it looks very nice.  They renamed the 6th St Bridge to the Roberto Clemente Bridge.  They have a great view of the downtown area & the rivers.

Milwaukee's new stadium looks nice.  Any one at the Opening day game.  Will you make a trip to a game?  Maybe when the Braves or Mets play there!  Andy would choose the Braves.

Now I have to change channels & watch The Masters @ see how Tiger Woods does.  Such a beautiful golf course.

Did I say Dale made an end table & it came out so nice.  He has been getting equipment to help him make things.  Kim liked it a lot.

Larry is ready to paint the bedroom at camp so it should soon be done.  Still has the floor to do.

Barb borrowed Saratoga Trunk from the library, starring Ingrid Bergman & Gary Cooper & she loved it.  Made in 1945 -- French flavor, so Barb thinks JoAnna would like it.  Have you seen it.  Today (Mon) she got the book at the library.



Gen called this week.  She said she calls John but he is either out or won't answer the telephone.  She is a worrier & feels bad.  I said John is a man and you need to let him go.  I think she realizes that but can't do it.  He might come over more if they let him go.  She wondered if we had a lot of snow, but it missed us.  Went south to the coast.  They had 12".

We heard that Rex Electronic will be in the mall taking the KBee toy store & CVS store so there will be some remodeling.  Also Big Lot store -- Kim & Dale's favorite in Jamestown -- will take over the former grocery store (County Mkt.) by the mall.  Be easier to go there now.  And the theater might reopen.

We've Pepperidge Farm Texas Toast -- Barb & Dale like the garlic toast but I like the mozzarella & monterey toast.

We're getting snow today -- 3-4".  Imagine Lar & Kim went out skiing.

I'm watching golf play in Arizona & it is cold & rainy out there.  Tiger isn't doing so good.

We're having peppercorn pork loin roast.  We had it before & it was too highly seasoned for all of us -- Lar & Kim also -- so I trierd to wash the peppers off but I'm sd help.  Wouldn't you know I got 2 peppercorn roasts at the time & I wanted to use this & get it out of the way.

Just finished lunch, enjoying coffee & "Murder She Wrote"on A&E & will continue my letter so excuse any mistakes.

Last Fri. I went to the bank to get money for Feb & as I was leaving Dave Blair was entering.  We talked a moment & he asked if you are still in Wisc etc.  I said you are.  I can't get over how old he looks for a young man.  You are still young, Paul!

Kim stopped in yesterday.  She was looking for the "snow" sprayed at Christmas.  She finally found it at Eckhard's.  She went to pay for it & Barb Lucia was arguing about the price of having pictures developed & she had a 2.00 discount coupon.  The bill was over 8.00 & she only pays 5.99 at KMart.  After several minutes she finally paid for them & said from now on I'll go to KMart.  Naturally Kim was getting restless being held up.  Object of the story -- coupons don't always make things cheaper than KMart's price.  I still collect & use them.

After services today, we had the annual meeting.  Everything went smoothly.  After the business, a few had some questions.  Tom Morelli's wife is on the council & she said a few words encouraging others to say "yes" when asked to help.  She is a very capable asset in the congregation.

I changed my menu -- we're having steak for "Super Sun."

Dale has been in bed all day -- not feeling good & sleeping.  He got up to eat dinner with us -- he thought he'd be able to eat -- but he couldn't eat.  He did drink some ginger ale.  He's asleep on the davenport now.

I had the football game on in the kitchen -- Baltimore was on the 1 yard line but I didn't wait to see if they got a T.D. & haven't turned it on here.  Not that interested.  My nose has been running all day -- it must be an allergy.  Dale is awake & wants to watch the game, so it's on now.

Now it's Mon the 29th.  Before Sun. bedtime I fixed soup for Dale & he ate it all.  He went to work today -- still a little wemuch food in his tummy all day Sun.

Do you remember the Rosenquists from church.  The youngest Rick (younger than Dale) was quite wild in his high school days & later on.  Now he is the weekend cook at the Crary Home.   He has had instruction & is a good cook & the people like him & his food.  And he isn't lazy.  Lar has had Rick helping him getting a house ready for rental.  I think they have gotten 3 houses on the block.  Rick is married & has a young son.  She works at Blair's.  Rick has lost his license & can't drive.  His wife goes to the Jehovah Witness Church & they don't recognize any holidays -- Christmas, etc.  I think it is more of an Old Testament church in beliefs.  The weekly cook is lazy & just does enough to satisfy.  They would like her to quit & then Rick could have her job.  Rick tried to have a pizza shop but it didn't work out.  He probably lost money on that.  He doesn't want evening work as he wants to be around evenings for his son.  I think it was Grandma Rosenquist who kept the family together -- the children were confirmed but we never saw the parents.

When I was at the bank last Fri, I mentioned this might be my last time cashing a check -- (closing) -- but the teller said they aren't sure now.  Maybe public outcry set them to thinking about closing it.  Otherwise I go to the East Side or change to Northwest Savings.  That means changing S. Security & Pension checks.

It's your birthday, Paul -- wish we were closer to help you celebrate.

Arlene H. was in church today.  John brought her home for the weekend.  John said he doesn't remember too many people anymore but he said I look the same so he knows me.  She mentioned the church Julie's family go to has a black pastor & Arlene likes him a lot.

Talked to Rose this week.  Think I wrote Karen had surgery.  Well Kim saw Karen's close friend & it was plastic surgery -- on stomach, arms & what else I don't know.  They took another mortgage on the house to pay for it.  Insurance wouldn't.  Reminds me of the song "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets."  Substitute Karen's name.

The torn up lawn is now seeded &^ the edges filled in & seeded, thanks to Larry.  It was so nice to see the 2 cars parked side by side in front of the garage doors.  2 more projects -- new sidewalk & roof.  Time will tell when they get done.  Altho next spring they want to put a brick walk in front of the garage to the back door.  Now the bricks are a little higher & they want it level.  Plenty of brick left for the project.

Should write to Ruth but seeing there is only a little over 3 weeks til Thanksgiving, I'll look for Thanksgiving cards & write then.

Sent an order to L. L. Bean yesterday.  There was a sweater, at a price I could afford, Barb wanted.  But it was sold out.  Lar saw a couple of flannel shirts he liked so some more shopping of gifts was accomplished.  Got my Christmas Club check on Fri. & will cash it tomorrow.  Have to go to PNC bank to get money for monthly expenses.  Christmas Club check comes from Northwest.  $500.00.  Kim got hers also.

I made out a preparation plan for Thanksgiving.  Look for dust in corners -- make sure I know where my recipes are, cookies made, grocery list, etc.  I need it in front of me or I'm apt to forget something.

My mind's a blank so I'll stop & maybe more thoughts will come on what to write about.

You'll never guess what I just did.  I'd gotten Christmas wrap on sale after Christmas so I wrapped the gifts I have for Paul & JoAnna.  Wanted to get them out of my room so I can straighten it up a bit.

Buff. & N.Y. J's are tied 20-20 & Buff has the ball with 1 min. to go.  Barb is at Johanson's & she must be on needles & pins. The Bills win 23-20.

Now I switched to golf.  Tiger is playing & that always makes it more interesting.

Last nite I made chicken & spaghetti but Barb didn't stay for dinner so Dale had her share for lunch.  So I'll be lazy & order pizza for Dale & me.  Dale went to the mall at Lakewood this aft.

Almost forgot.  Dale got a ceiling fan, 1/2 price, at KMart for the garage to move the warm air around.  He has another better kerosene stove that really heats the garage up.  Pretty complete now, with heat, fan & TV.

Kim had a busy weekend a week ago helping others & not leaving enough time for herself.  So when she came over yesterday I was surprised.  Fri. Lar said "there is nothing to snack on".  So Sat. A.M. Kim got up early to make cookies.  When she was getting an egg out of the fridge it slipped out of her hand.  Trying for another, it also slipped out of her hand, so she had a mess to clean up.  That didn't make her very happy.  Lar stopped by as he was going to rake leaves at Carey's.  So he had a couple of cookies.  I'll be making more of the peanut butter, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies as Dale likes them. They are easy to make.

Sheila & Sue (beauty shop gals) don't work on Halloween but dress up & visit around.  They know a teacher at Jefferson so they are in the neighborhood and stop in to see me.  Plan to make cookies & give them each a bag.  They'll dress up as Cheetas -- wear black jeans & jacket.  The masks got 50.00 & they stick to the face.  Went to Fredonia to get them.  They also wear wigs.  They have fun & look good in their costumes.

I see Green Bay was defeated.  Pittsburgh won so Dale will be happy.

Careys are in Fla. for 2 weeks.  They found someone to stay with the dogs.

Tues. Oct. 30.

I'm glad to sit down -- it's been a busy day for me.  Up at 6 am.  After breakfast & reading the paper, I went upstairs & took care of my room.  On Mon. I change Dale's sheets.  Did my washing, made my cooky dough & put it in the fridge.  About 9:15, I walked to the post office for stamps, to PNC Bank to cash my check for Nov. exp.  Then went across the st. & cashed my Christmas Club check.  We've been talking that I should get a C.D. and I asked about it at the bank (Northwest) & put $10,000.00 into a 14 mo. cert. of deposit at PNC.  It is one dad started with $10,000.00 when he was well.  Overheard Mr. Gustafson tell someone C.D.s were the best way for older people.  That spurred me on to do something.  Should make use of my money.  The int will go into the C.D.  Dad had the int. go into his checking account.  The pension & S.S. take care of current expenses.  What is in the checking account is for taxes & any improvements.  I guess one could say I'm doing OK.

Also dusted downstairs, an easy job.  Baked & frosted the cookies.  Fixed supper, cleaned up & now I'm resting & watching TV.  TLC "Code Blue". So I've had a full day for me.

Enjoyed talking with Paul & the boys on Sun.  Eddie made me smile when I asked him if his homework was finished.  He told me he didn't like personal questions!  I'm still smiling.  Am anxious to see Andy again & how he has grown.  Great to have 2 wonderful grandsons.  See you soon.

I've been watching golf on TV.  The Internationals against the Americans & the Americans win.

Last nite I watched baseball until the 11th inning & went to bed.  The Mets had a chance to win but it didn't happen.  A good game, tho.  don't know how long I'll stay up tonite as this will be Dale's early week.  Starting Mon. Barb will be staying at Lynn's while they are in Fla.  She won't be there all the time -- will be at Bert's mornings & we'll go to the mall, etc.  And groceries.

The driveway is finished & now they must do the lawn.  Lar said Dale should seal it & he will do that this week as the weather should be nice the first of the week.  It's beautiful.

Barb is upstairs switching the TV between Buffalo & golf.  And Buff. is winning over Minn.  Flutie is Z.B. & doing a great job.  She is happy.

Back to the driveway, several people have commented favorably on it.  In church today Mr. Gustafson (up the st.) said it is so nice.  They did a great job, Lar & Dale, and it wasn't an easy one.

When you called yesterday (Sat A.M.) I was surprised.  Had rolls in the oven & a pan ready to come out.  Later on when I thought about it, I couldn't remember silver or gold.  So I plan to call tonite to find out as tomorrow we'll go to the mall.  Does that surprise you.

Yesterday I sent your birthday gift.  It will probably arrive before this letter does.

Have to do some baking this week -- the cooky jars are empty.

It cost about $2,500.00 to fix the driveway.  Imagine what labor would have been if it had been a hired job.  Dale would have been happy to see it changed as he always talked about fixing it.  I have the money to do it, with Lar & Dale's work, because the years Dad was sick, we didn't do anything so didn't use money for travels, eating out, etc.  Dad never needed new clothes so it all made a big difference.

Dale went to KMart & got 2 front porch lamps on sale.  The ones that are by the front door.  He doesn't like their looks & had said he'd get new ones.  These are brass.

Dale did a transmission job on a van for an older man. He came back & said it made a noise.  So Dale went out with him to drive it.  He told the man he was doing something too fast & the electronics wouldn't work right & it made a noise.  The man said you don't need to tell me how to drive.  Sam drove it & it was OK & the service manager drove it & said it's OK.  It was how he drove it.

Fri. the 27th.  I have a Dr. appt.  Last week I had a blood test & that was the day we went to Jamestown.

Mon.  I had a card from Gen & Lila & a note from Gen.  She gave me Charles & Sandy (I think that's her name) new address.  Mentioned they would have an Open House & the Paul Nelsons would be invited.  Also Lila wonders when she should pay her rent & Gen tells her the house is hers.  No rent to pay.  Never knows what day it is.  Must be hard on Gen.  She does all the cleaning, meals, etc.

Lar sealed the bricks today.  Dale parked on it last nite.  Can't use it for 48 hrs. & they might put a 2nd coat on it.  It's so nice & spacious.

We went to the Mall & I spent my birthday certificate at Bon Ton.  I got a winter jacket -- a slate blue.  It's nice.  Used a 20% off coupon also.  So I used it for myself.  Kim said she'd never speak to me if I used birthday money for other than me.  I wouldn't want that.

We've had supper -- Barb & me -- Dale went back to work when he saw Lar did the sealing of the bricks. Barb left for Johanson's.  I'll finish this & write to Millie.  Also did a little more Christmas shopping.  Each month I saw 50.00 plus a Christmas Club which should be coming soon.  So having cash on hand has allowed me to start Christmas shopping.  Next comes the wrapping.

Hope the Mets do better when they are at Shea Stadium.  They've tried but no good so far.  They have to win a game or 2.  Yankees can't do it in 4 games like they did to Atlanta!!

What about those Mets.  They finally won a game.  I stayed up til 11:30 pm & the game was tied.  Dozed a bit & got up at 12:30 A.M. to see the score.  4-2 Mets so I missed the exciting part.  Then I couldn't get to sleep & this is Dale's early week.  But I finally did but I'll have to nap today if I want to stay up past 10 om.  The Mets got hot in the 8th & 9th innings..

Barb said one of the cats scratched on the bedroom door so she finally shut him or her up downstairs.  This was about 2 A.M. so she didn't get much sleep.

I had a card yesterday from Pam Bonace Lyle.  The note said she just heard I had reached 80.  (News travels.)  She also said she had good memories being in our home with Barb.  I was surprised-- a nice surprise.

Plan to mail this before they pick up at 1:30 p.m.  And must get the dusting & vacuuming done.

Dale put up the new lights he bo't.  They look very nice.  I suggested the outside of the front door needs a paint job. He'll do it sometime.

Barb is ready to fire Wade Phillips for keeping Rob Johnson in the game & having Flutie on the bench. I don't like the announcers so I'm not watching.

My back is giving me trouble.  Don't know if it's the results of cold/flu or the regular back trouble.  But I can't do what I want to, Barb gets groceries & I can't get to the Mall.  A disgusting situation.

I finished the 2nd book by Jan Karon.  I really enjoy them - reminds me of Dad at times.  The Rector thought he was old at 62 & then he remembered - "at age 89 Arthur Rubenstein had given one of his most enthralling recitals, at Carnegie Hall.  At 82 W. Churchill wrote A History of the English Speaking People - in four volumes no less.  And hand't Eamon De Valera served as president of Ireland when he was 91.  Not to mention Grandma Moses who was still painting - and getting paid for it - at the age of 100."  A mere 50 is nothing, Paul!

Last week I watched Itzhak Perlman on Public TV.  Live from Lincoln Center.  He used the theme of the violin in his life.  At 5 he wanted a violin - his first teacher, first performance with a live orchestra, Ed Sullivan show, etc.  Really enjoyed it.  He said if he wasn't here he might be at home watching Law & Order or he could be out to dinner with his wife on their 33rd wedding anniversary.

We've had snow flurries but they didn't amount to anything.

I had to cancel my hair appt. last Fri.  Barb would have taken me there but I know I couldn't walk home.

Dale got my trash compactor working & it's nice to have it back.

Larry's new wife must not have made much of an impression on you as you said nothing about her.  I was waiting for some word.

I take it Andy's glasses arrived OK.

Have a "beautiful" coldsore on my lower lip - in the middle.  Nice & big & it's taking its time healing.

My navy purse has seen its best days but it's easy to carry, etc.  Barb said I should junk it.  She was at the Bon Ton on Fri. & saw one she thought I'd like so she got it for me.  Exactly what I like so that was a nice surprise. On sale, too.  I junked the old one.

We were so disappointed when Buffalo lost in the last 16 seconds.  Barb still thinks Wade should be fired.  He should have put Doug F. in & maybe get more points.

Was eating popcorn the other nite & lost part of a filling.  It doesn't hurt & that's good as I'm not ready to sit in the dentist chair.  What else can happen.

Your new furniture sounds nice.  I'm sure it will be more comfortable to sleep on when you have company.

It's a rainy day.  Barb has to return a library book so if I finish this she can mail it & a bill for me.

Golf in Maui was so exciting on Sun.  Tiger & Ernie Els tied at the end of 18 holes & went to overtime.  On the 2nd hole Tiger had a wonderful long putt that won the tournament.  Exciting to watch.

I've done practically nothing today except watch Ryder Cup golf on T.V.  The Americans are a disappointment losing 10-6 on Sat & 14 points win.  Another disappointment are the Mets.  Can't believe how they have slipped.  The young golfer from Spain Sergio is a breath of fresh air.  He played with the Swede Jesper & they were winners.  Hope you follow golf a big so you know what I'm talking about.

Last Wed. I went out for lunch with our pastor friends.  We always have fun together.

Mon. Barb wants to go to Erie shopping.  She is now working for 3 people - all due to Kim.  And she might have another one - one of Kim's friends is losing her cleaning lady.  Barb enjoys it.

Dale is now painting the side door of the garage & the final painting of the 3 windows he fixed.  Did a nice job in them.

Mr. Curtin has his well digging rig at Camp & he hopes to start digging next week.  His 85-year-old dad works with him.  He is the one that climbs on the rig & Mr. C. is on the ground watching.

Lar took some time off to work on master bath & has the tile finished.  They have a shower ordered.  It is a larger one with a seat so you can sit down.  More elbow room.  T hat's why I like our basement shower.

Last Thurs. when Lar & Kim came for dinner I had something besides the usual chicken.  Hatch Patch was still selling corn so we had steak, baked potatoes & corn on the cob & it was delicious.  Kim had some a week ago & they didn't like it so we were lucky.  It was our goodbye to summer meals.

Can't believe that Fri. is Oct. 1.  Before you know it, Paul, you'll be celebrating your 50th birthday.  How time flies.  That means I'll be 1 year closer to 80 & that is harder to believe.  That's old!

Kim was telling they have a new boy who is from Union City.  He assaulted 3 teachers there & they were glad to get rid of him.  How lucky can Sheffield be to inherit him.  And some people think teachers have a soft job & get too much money.

Dale was saying one fellow at work knew someone working at Eisenhower Hi School in the cafeteria & due to the shortage of substitute teachers they asked this gal to sub.  She refused saying I couldn't do that.  That's scraping the barrel all right.

The golf is great this aft. with single play & the Americans are making the putts.  If they should win it will be a great overcoming.  I almost wanted to skip church but my "inner voice" said "no!"  And I obeyed it & was glad I did.

What has happened to Wisconsin - I thought they were a better team, but they're losing.  Has Andy noticed Penn State has been winning - at least so far.  Yea, go Penn State!  They have a very loyal alumni - they come from all over & tickets are hard to get to the games.

Saw the lawyer & the new deed to the house is soon ready to be signed.  To be divided evenly between you 4, or the heirs.  We changed it to "heirs" & Mr. Swanson wondered about the daughters-in-law.  I said there's no problem there.  He asked because so many mothers-in-law don't like or get along with theirs.  No problem.  I have 2 wonderful "daughters-in-law".

Just checked & Buffalo is ahead 16-0 in the first half.  Barb is happy.

Guess this covers the news here.  Nothing too exciting goes on here.

P.S.  Ruth called to tell that Stella fell &  broke her wrist (in a cast) & her upper left leg.  She will have her leg operated on Mon. the 27th.

Ruth is fine.  Has had her house painted & a new roof.  New rug for the porch.

David will start a new job (chaplain) Oct. 17th in Mpls.  Have to sell their home & by a new one there.  Be nice for Stella to have him close.

Went over town this A.M. as it is a sunny day.  Cashed a check for Mar. expenses; got vitamin E at CVS & went into D&K, a favorite place to look around.

Last week I saw Dr. Keverline for my eyes.  And I do have a cataract & arranged to have it taken care of Mar. 16th.  He asked me if I'd lost weight & if I get hot - I said I've lost weight & I do get warm but mostly when I working & the house temp.l is at 72 - for Dad's sake.  Next Tues. the 2nd I was suppose to see Dr. McNett but now he won't be in the office but I can see the nurse - more than an RN - a Dr. asst. but I can't recall the title.  She is very nice.  Oh yes Dr. K. wonders if it's thyroid & gave me ma note to give Dr. McN.

Dad has fallen several times this past week.  Mostly because he is so ornery & won't listen.  Many times he tries to hit me & as a result falls - loses his balance.

Larry & Kim think I should talk to Mark Patterson & make arrangements for a funeral.  Many people do that today & it makes it easier at the time of death.  I don't see how Dad hangs on.  He eats so little & now he's sleeping more.  It's hard to feel bad as he has a way of making things so difficult.  I guess I'll have to remember the first 50 years & forget the rest when the time comes.

Tomorrow I get a permanent & I really need one.  Suppose to be in the mid 40s.

We are enjoying golf on T.V.  Really interesting this week as it is a one on one tournament.

I agree with what you said about the Yankees.  And L.A. spending all that money on a pitcher.  Of course my Mets did that on the catcher.  Time will tell.  It's not an equal situation for all the teams.

Talked to Gen this week & she said she, Edna & Linda (Millie's daughter) all have or had thyroid trouble & take medication.  I didn't know that.

Got a new lampshade & it matches one I got before.  They are lighter & make things brighter.

Morning are lighter at 6:30 A.M. & afternoons are lighter longer, almost to 6 pm.  Nice.  Thoughts of spring.

Larry brought our tree this aft. It is beautiful & smells so good. He gets them at a tree farm. Barb is putting the lights on & I'll help with the other decorations. We'll have to remember to keep it watered. Short needles.

We've had 2 sunny days in a row.  I like it.

Have most of my Christmas cards ready to mail.  Have to write letter to Gen & Millie.

Our neighborhood is really "lit up".  People across the street have lights outside on the front & side of the house. Keeney's (Johnson's house) have a lot of lights.  You'll see them in a couple of weeks.

We are glad JoAnna liked her gift.  Barb spotted it & thought it would be something JoAnna would like - color & all.

Dale waxed the Monte Carol & Blazer.  The Blazer has a shine that hurts your eyes.  It really shines.   We should take before & after pictures.  Dale is so proud of his cars.  He worked hard to get them in shape.

When will you leave for Two Rivers?  This might be the last letter as you'll be gone.  What happens to Boxer?

Your dinner (library connected) sounded interesting but I don't think I understand all the food you mentioned. Out of my category.  I'm too lazy to fuss.

When I read about your library, I couldn't help but contrast it with ours.  I'm so glad you are in such a good situation, & that the budget went thru.  Of course you have the U. of W. & that is a drawing card as well as the industry around.  We're just "small potatoes" around here.

I just turned on T.V. to watch The President's Cup at Melbourne, Australia.  The U.S. isn't doing so well.  It's not over there.  Barb stayed up last nite watching to the end - 2:30 A.M.  I went to bed at 10:30.  This is Dale's early week - 7 am to 4 pm.

Now it's Sun. pm.  I'm at the table with cake & coffee.  Want to get this in the mail Mon.

We have the ornaments on the tree & it looks so nice.  Still have a few gifts to wrap.

Got to church today.  Dad didn't cause any problems.

Last nite we had Orange Roughy for supper & Dale had steak - he's not a fish eater.  It was a good meal so I fixed an easy meal tonite - a baked chicken sandwich.  I hit a blank many times when it comes to meal planning.

I have a turkey casserole in the oven for supper.  Remainder of Thanksgiving dinner.  Also cooked the bones for turkey soup tomorrow.  We were 6 for Thanks. dinner.  Barb left to be at Liz William's by 10 A.M.  Came home for a 4 pm dinner & left about 6:30.  They are to be home by 5 pm.  Liz & her mother.

Kim & Torey stopped by.  Mr. Carey called Larry & said you should take "your mom & Barb out to dinner".  And guess what - he would be a willing to sit with Dad while we're gone.  What a surprise & what a nice gesture.  I'm really touched.  That's what is nice - when one volunteers out of a clear blue sky.  Many say they'd like to help but mostly it's hot air.

Started to get Christmas decorations out.  Do it gradually.  Have Christmas cards addressed but that's all so far.  Have to be in the mood to write notes.

By the time you read this you'll have the Birthday Box.  Dec. is soon here.

Got your letter today.  They are always so interesting.  At least when you're busy the time goes fast.  But again you have to take a breather.  I take a lot of them & also coffee breaks.

The neighbor put up those icicle lights - many people have them.  We think we'd like to do that on the front of the house.  Barb saw one house that had them lite lighted & the bulbs were stars.  Said they looked so nice.  But I don't know where to get them.  *Couldn't remember how to spell "lit" & then it came to me.

Better set the table, etc.

Now it's Sat. aft the 28th.  Did some baking & now have turkey soup simmering for supper.

Am watching Penn State vs. Michigan State & Penn St. is playing like they should have against Wisc!!  44th quarter "we're" ahead 48-14.

We can't believe this weather - it's continuing into the 1st week of Dec.  Mon. I hope to walk overtown, cash a check for Dec. expenses & go into CVS & D&K.

Time out while I attended to Dad.  He slept most of the aft. & I wanted him awake so he'll sleep tonite.

I should soon have my gift shopping completed.  Kim gave me some ideas for Lar.  I'm more interested in Penn St. than a neat letter.  My mind goes ahead of my hand.

Liz Williams was later getting home so she (Barb) left before 6 pm.  Liz came by today with Barb's money.  Barb was upstairs & I just happened to see her approach the house so I answered the door.  She is very nice & easy to talk to.  Barb is disgusted with me as I mentioned that Barb wasn't too fond of dogs.  Now she thinks Liz wouldn't ask her to sit again.  It just came out - Barb is always saying she doesn't like dogs.  I was only telling the truth but sometimes you don't have to tell the truth.  Barb was upstairs with the door closed - as usual.  Life goes on.

After church I fixed lunch for Dad & me.  Then I got ambitious & cleaned the fridge.  Now it looks nice but for how long.

I'm resting now & I'd like to make sugar cookies.  Make the dough & chill & bake them tonite if I feel like it or maybe on Mon.   Might start Danish - have to have snacks for Dale.  OK, I spoil him but I bet you'll do the same for Andy or Eddie.  Maybe not snacks but something.  You never stop being a parent.  At least "thems my thoughts".

The sun is finally showing itself so maybe we will see the 60s today.

Last nite I watched S.C. vs. Notre Dame.  Bills are on at 4 pm & the Skins Game at 3:30.  I enjoy golf on T.V. esp. the Skins.  Tom Lehman & Mark O'Meara are ahead of Greg Norman & Freddy _____.  Can't remember his last name.  Tom & Mark each have $150,000.  No cash yet for Greg & Freddy.

I'm just rambling so I'll quit.

What a difference a week makes.  Last Sun. our thoughts were on your trip home - now you've been home a week & Andy has his football equipment.

I was able to do some baking this past week, but it didn't cool off that much.  I'm looking forward to fall & cooler weather.

Barb has the first section of the porch rails just about completed.  This part goes faster.  Looks very nice.

I lost a filling in a back tooth so will see the dentist on Tues.  My 3rd visit in a short time after a 2 year absence.  Shouldn't let it go so long.

We've been watching golf from Redmond, Wn.  It's interesting.  Thurs - Sat. real nice weather - today, cooler & rainy.  It's a major & they are fun to watch.

This past week I finally got ambition & shortened 2 pair of lacks.  It's a job I don't like but a good feeling once it's done.

Kim & Lar have to decide on a car - if they buy the present one leased, it would mean a 5 yr. loan & they don't like that.  They are looking into a CRV Honda.  (I think it's Honda.)  But Kim prefers the regular shift & they are harder to find.  They'd like the color of their present wagon so 1st choice & a red as 2nd choice.  The salesperson is looking for one.  Wouldn't you know it - one was sold a couple of days before they called.  They get it in DuBois.  It will be a lease.

Dale went to Seaman's yesterday & got a fender for the Blazer.  First he cleaned it up good - it is good condition - no rust.  Then a coat of rust prevention & he spray paints it.  The Blazer had some dents so he got 2 new fenders thru the one who painted the El Camino.  It will look nice once he's completed the re-conditioning. It will be ready for winter.  Maybe this winter will be harsher.

Must write to Gen & I seem to have hit a blank.  Not much happens here.

It was great having you home & seeing how the boys have grown.  I'm proud of my grandsons as well as my sons & daughters.

Another letter but I want to tell you of my purchase.  Was looking thru the Betty Crocker Catalogue & saw a Nesco Oven Roaster & after some thought decided to get it & it arrived Thurs.  It is nice - tho't it would be nice to have for hot weather.  On the warranty card there was a place for "comments" so I wrote "I ordered it because it was highly recommended by my daughter-in-law who grew up in Two Rivers.

It poured down this A.M. just as I was ready to get my hair done.  I t has stopped but is still cloudy.  The grass is green, trees are showing green but we can't plan flowers for a month.  We could have some frosty nites.  Lar has started his after work jobs.  Don't think Kim will miss her exercise classes as she like to take Taury on long walks.  They were over last nite.

Barb wanted a carrot cake for her birthday & I used a different recipe & it was really good.  Lar wants one for his birthday.  Dale had a choc. cake.

Dad saw the Dr. this week & had lost 12 lbs. so he has to have a blood test to see if there is any reason.

The pomp & ceremony of this week was very interesting.  C.N.N. had some good programs on Nixon.  We were surprised at the outpouring of good wishes, etc. for Nixon.



Dad hopes to play golf but I wonder as A.M.'s are hard for him.  By evening he feels good.

I wrote notes to Edna, Millie & Stella.  Heard from Gen yesterday.  She finally sent an Easter card!!  So I won't answer her letter yet.

First of all thank you & JoAnna for the beautiful bouquet of flowers you sent to Carl.  Blue & yellow and so many people commented on their beauty.  It was a memorable day for Carl & so nice to have his sisters & Paul, Andy & Eddie here.  It was a great week, enjoyed by all.

We had so much fun with the boys - they have changed since Christmas, especially Eddie & I was great having them around & they were good boys.  We miss them.

Sat. Barb had videos to return to the library & I wanted books but we got there about 3 minutes before it closed -- 1 pm - but I chose a book & it was a good one.  "Homestead" by Anne Rivers Siddons & it was so good.  This A.M. Carl played golf so I walked over town as CVS had some special sales & then I went to the library & got 4 more books.  So I'm sitting on the porch reading afternoons.

Now we're watching Mets vs. Atlanta in Atl. and hoping for a winning outcome!!.  Ha Ha.

Tonite Dale left for Rochester for school tomorrow.  Something to do with transmissions on a truck that is coming out. Only 1 day this time.  They gave him a car to drive & it has less than 400 miles on it.

Dad played 9 holes today - he wasn't sure if he'd finish 9 holes & was glad to make it.  He likes his new driver.  It was a beautiful day to be outside.

We had our first strawberries from Hatch Patch & they are good.  Hope to pick some later on .  They aren't picking yet -- allowing people to pick.

Last nite we watched the Brewers vs. N.Y. & saw the birds in the outfield.  Funny.

Not much going on here - if Eddie asked "What happened", we'd have to answer nothing!

Dad says thanks for the Father's Day greetings - the pictures of the boys are so good - I know we're missing a lot but that's how the ball bounces!  The one of Andy on the bed with Paul & Eddie looks like he has a real satisfied smile.  His world is great.  And Eddie is such a "doll", even if he is a boy.  You are very lucky parents.

Today Ed & Gen are entertaining the Swedish Vasa lodge - at their place.  Pot luck picnic.  I know they've been busy inside & out but I'm sure Edith is helping & maybe Edna as they are members.

The Carey wedding was great.  Lar & Kim told us all about it.  Figured the dress was in the $1500.00 range.  At the country club first they served hors d'oeuvres - expensive ones - caviar, etc.  For the meal, which was buffet -- delicious & tender Prime Rib, fresh salmon, etc.  About 25 were Lisa's friends, the rest Dr. & wives & important people.  Lar & Kim sat with Jack's secretary & her husband.  Lisa's husband has 2 sons, oldest is 16, both were there.  Paula has a b.f. & is living with him.  It must have really cost them a bundle - Mrs. C said they'd have to increase the coffer before there would be another wedding.

We celebrated Kim's birthday & Father's day together as she planned a picnic for her coed group on Fri.  She loved your gift Barbara.  Mon nite they went to Galen's golf supply & each got a putter as they could turn in their old ones for a rebate plus the sale price so they did OK.  I got her another gift - have you seen the mop dolls - Debbie at Penney's Salon makes them & made one for me & it is so cute.  Kim had seen one at a friends last week & loved it so was pleased to get one.  It will go in their new bedroom.

At the last trustee's mtg - one of the men talked to Lar about the apt. & Lar told them what he'd like to do.  He told Lar to go ahead with plans & get an estimate for the board.  He said to plan on a furnace too.  That really pleased them.  The present bedroom would become a dining room & the large room where Mrs C. painted could become 2 bedroom & a bath.  They'd have 3 bedrooms & one would be an office.  We hope it works out for them.  He wants a fellow from Youngsville to do the work & he came to look it over.  Lar is busy but has plans in mind.

This Thurs. the 27th we meet Warren & Anna again at Cook's Forest & go out to eat & then play miniture miniature golf (decided to look up the correct spelling).

Dale says he's taking the 2nd week of July as vacation.  No plans.

Tell Andy I'm crying because the Mets are in 3rd place & they can't seem to win when they need to.  Sid should be back in a couple of weeks.

Rijo did a foolish thing for the Reds by stealing (trying to) 2nd & breaking his ankle.  It will be Pitts. vs. L.A. in the playoffs.  Dale is happy.

Dad plays 9 holes of golf twice a week with Don from Jamestown.

Erie is having its problems with random shooting from cars - rival gangs.

In today's paper a couple were camping out at Heart's Content & they were shot at.  They are investigating the matter.

The neighbors (at Conewango) are having a yard sale.  Guess they plan only to have 2 children as baby things were for sale & not just clothes.  Larger articles in the nursery.

Guess I've rambled enough.

Rose stopped by & talked with us on the porch.  Karen & Rick sold their house & will move in July.  They got the price they wanted.  Rose said Segals are the riches people in Warren.  Rick has been there a year now & he'll get a raise.  I didn't realize Elliot S. was married & is expecting a child.  But he didn't marry a Jew so they won't recognize the child.  Rose said the junk yard makes a lot of money - no one else could keep up with their business.  Rick was lucky to get the job - they approached him as Mrs. S. worked with Rick on borough council.  Rick & Karen are in Montreal this week on vacation.

A single woman bot the house & she wanted papers signed before their vacation.  She teaches in the nursing dept. at Jamestown Community College.  House only on the market 2 weeks.

We're eating lettuce from the garden.  Lettuce has been expensive so decided to use garden lettuce & save.  Goodby again!

We hope you had a nice birthday & that you like the sweater.  It would look nice with a black turtleneck.  If you don't like it - fit, color, etc. it is exchangeable.

When Barb first came home, shopping was something that didn't appeal.  How she has changed.  I told her it's good she's leaving before I corrupt her any more - i.e., shopping, spending. etc!  What fun we are having.  Last Thurs we both shopped.  I spent birthday money - got a pr. of slacks & a matching sweater vest and a blouse.  And a necklace - silver chainlike.  Longer length.

Have a gift certificate from the new dept. store.  Looked last week but mostly to get acquainted with the layout.

Sat. Barb & I shopped again.  She got a cardigan & 2 turtlenecks.  Before she got jeans & cords.  I only got earrings.  We also got a good start on our Christmas shopping.  Have to make use of the sales they have.  And my Christmas club isn't here yet but it will be here when the bills come from Penney's, Bon Ton & Sears.  I spend but I have the money to cover it.

Now that Standard time is here - Dad doesn't like to drive at night so we go to Jamestown for lunch & shopping during the day.  Hope to go tomorrow.

Today we went to dinner at The Heights - formerly Jackson Hts.  It is nice & the menu improved & good food.  We enjoyed our meal.

Today Dad bot both the Buffalo & the Pittsburgh papers so we have plenty of interesting reading.

One of the men that brings his children to the Playroom, asked Barb is she had children..  He said you're so good with children.  His youngest blew Barb a goodby kiss & he said I don't even get that.  So you'll be getting a good "Nanny".  You can't believe how much she has changed & all to the good.  Being home has been good for her.

Don't know if I mentioned Dad got a new suit.  He looked at Carnahans but didn't see anything.  One time at Lakewood Mall we were window shopping & looked at suits & he found just what he wanted & it looks real nice on him.

Dad had to put away his golf clubs.  It wasn't a very good summer for golf.  You were lucky we had 5 beautiful days when you were here & we haven't seen 5 nice days since.

All is well with us.  We send our love.

It was so nice having you here with us but I know you're glad to be back to your regular schedule & your home.

Mon. was a beautiful day - I wash & hung sheets outside.  After we cleaned up we rode to Jamestown U& had pancakes at Perkins.   Went for a walk when we got home.

Lar & Kim stopped by in the A.M.  They had to collect the baskets at church & they said good by as they hoped to get off soon.  The gift from Braders was a wooden condiment set - they said it is so nice.  We hope to see their gifts when they get back.  Later on Mr. Carey stopped by with a gift from his mother.  An envelope with money.

Last nite I set Danish pastry & this A.M. I bro't some over to the girls at school for the last time.  It is a cloudy day & by noon it was raining.  But I got over town & to the library.  Got a pair of low heeled beige sandals & they are comfortable.  Looked at skirts & tops but didn't find anything I liked.

Later we go to Ridgway but don't think we'll play miniature golf unless it didn't rain there.  Dad got an early start at the golf course but it was showery, or rather misty & not that nice for playing.  He met Dan Greendahl & played with him.

Yesterday was a nice day for tanning & Barb was on the porch.

The Mets weren't on T.V. so we watched Atlanta wallop St. Louis.  The Mets won!

We put the ivy on the porch for the summer.

Kim had a couple of things for the baby & in the excitement forgot to bring them over.  We'll bring them in Sept.  The plans for the get together went awry.

Fri. & Sat. we'll be at Thiel for the Synod meeting & that should be interesting to see who gets to be Bishop & who'll be disappointed.  The week will go fast with that to look forward to.

This is the A.M. to get my hair done & I'm ready early so here goes another letter.

Last nite we were sitting on the front porch in our new, comfortable chairs & Kim stopped by. She was going to take a bike ride (which she never did) but we got talking & time flew by. She is taking care of the horses in Youngsville again for a week & she was telling of one horse that can get the stall opened no matter what they do.  Lar didn't believe it & he was helping & while his back was turned the horse opened the stall with his teeth.  Twice he did it to Lar, so now he believes.  Kim said they have narrowed the date to April or May.

Sun the 29th is World Soccer final game & Lar is having the local soccer players over to watch the game.  He'll have dips, cold meats, beer, etc.  Stag.  The gals will be at a gal's home.  Kim has a baby shower go to go.

Wed. we drove to Thiel College to delivery Dad's 56 books of Luther's Works.  They said they'd like them & Dad will never use them & they came out in reprint 10 years ago & it is good for us, too.  We need to start clearing out.

It was a beautiful day with the puffy clouds against blue sky.  We went a different way - -thru Spartansburg, & what a roller coaster road that is.  Beautiful ride.  Came home via Erie & the Mall but didn't buy anything.  Oh yes Lar & Kim plan to buy a microwave.  Saw one at Sears on sale.

We have a hummingbird feeder on the front porch.  As we were sitting out last nite our bird came toward it but our talking must have frightened it.  But maybe they'll come now & feed.  I love to watch them flutter in their air & feed.

The bathroom is back to normal again & the mirror is so nice & makes such a difference. The new lights give much better light.  What can I think of next!

Dad's playing golf this A.M. with Don Greendahl.  Dad gets out twice a week.

Today is Gen's last day of work.  I sent her a retirement gift & enclosed a package of microwave popcorn for the new micro. she plans to get.  Johnny should like that.  Good popcorn, too.

Dad had to do some hospital visitation this week as the pastor is on vacation.  Cindy Andersen Farnham had a mastectomy.  She is young for that, and coming along well.  Also 3 others to visit.  One said she wishes Dad was still the pastor.  Gary told Dad he has had a rough spring.  At a council mtg. one young member really chewed him out & they had to adjourn  the mtg.  Nice to be retired!

New its Tues AM, my day off.  We plan to go to Jamestown for breakfast & then grocery shop.  Still on the cool side but I like it.

More about Cindy Farnham.  This A.M. she is having the other breast removed, will have to have kemo therapy & might have to have her ovaries removed.  She noticed the lump last Nov. but waited.  She is an Aid at Jefferson School & have sick leave, etc. so its too bad she waited.

Edna & Wally spent a week at S. Yarmouth, Ma.  She enclosed the article about Tech & Classical.  I didn't realize Tech's origins.  Have a good 4th.  Ours will be a quiet one.
