Until July 2010, when her eyesight deteriorated, my mother wrote 1000s of chatty letters during her lifetime - to her parents, in-laws, sisters, children, friends. Tho she started to write to me on a regular basis in Sept '68 when I began my freshman year at SUNY-Buffalo, it wasn't until 10 years later that I decided to hold onto them. (Very inconsistently at first, to which the big gaps between dates attest.) These are the letters transcribed, annotated, and otherwise highlighted here.

Dear Andy,
Did you see Sid pitch last Fri. nite. It was on T.V. He did real good for 6 innings & the Mets beat L.A. & Strawberry.
I thought you might like the clown, with a butterfly on his nose, that is on this note paper. Isn't he funny looking.
Tell your Daddy we are real proud of him for being chosen Wi. librarian of the year. You have great parents & we love you all.
We are glad you will be visiting us. We haven't seen Eddie yet and we are anxious to see him & you, Andy, so we can give you big hugs.
Bet you are looking forward to riding on the Airplane and the trip to Florida and Disney World. You'll have fun.
I'm sending you a dollar so you can buy some M&M's when you go shopping with Mom & Dad.
Tell Barbara that Allie, she used to baby sit her & her brother, learned to ride a 2 wheel bike & she is doing so good. She rides in the school yard.
Our love to all.
