Nice to get your letter & hear what you are doing. Dad thanks you for the card & gift subscription. Larry & Kim stopped over last nite. They had been to "Gram's" for birthday dinner. She'll have another one here next Thurs. Her gram & aunt are moving to Atlanta in a couple of weeks. Chris is already there & receiving out-patient therapy. She is much better but will have to be careful.
In hot weather we really appreciate our ceiling fans - had it going most of last nite - our bedroom fan.
We went to Erie last Thurs & had lunch at the Red Lobster. Mostly window shopped.
We haven't picked strawberries yet, maybe tomorrow, but we've bot some & they are so good. We've had fresh broccoli from the garden & it tastes so much better.
Edna called & she wanted us to stay with them a couple of days & then we'll go to Gen's. When I first heard her voice, I got scared it was bad news as she never calls. Gen & I call often.
After you left there was a blue shirt in the wash & I tho't it was Dad's, but it isn't. It must be yours Paul as it has Renee's address in the picket. It went thru the wash. Also JoAnna's sandals are here. We'll bring them. Dad's going to have another wedding. Gary Yaegle is getting married in July, after our vacation. They had wanted it when we are in Mass. It will be at Hessel Valley Church. They have gone together 15 years, off & on & he's finally decided to do it. Just a family affair followed by a reception in her home. She raises horses. A Judy Johns.
If you have any projects for Dad when we visit, let us know so he can bring needed tools.
Of yes, Kim was thinking of buying Diane Borger's dining room set - a solid oak, table has 6 leaves for $1,000.00 But then she found a round table at a household sale for 50.00 & she already had chairs & hutch so she decided against the big set. So they went to Caprino's & found a bedroom set they liked - head & foot board & it can have either a regular mattress or a water matt, nite stand, triple dresser & 3 way mirror & chest of drawers. And last week sets were 1/3 off. It has to be ordered. They then got a green rug on sale at Sears & now they plan to repaint the bedroom & put a different paper in place of the mural. You see their plan is to make the bedroom into a dining room if they can figure how to get heat in the other room off the L.R.
Just finished reading d. Steele "Secrets" & enjoyed it. I know it's an old one but I wait til they turn up at the regular section of the library.
I like the kitchen set - looks like the ends pull out & that is nice.
You have an exciting time ahead of you with the new library building. Not too many headaches, I hope.
Dale called on Sat. to wish Dad a happy Father's Day. One more month & he'll be home. He says time goes fast except for Sun.
Talked to Roger & Irma Thelin yesterday & they said they hear good things about Dale - best auto mechanic in town. We've heard that before. His friend Sam bot a used motor boat with 2 sets of water skis. So I'm sure Dale is looking forward to that & going to Sat. nite races at Stateline. Also plans to get the El Camino in order & finish the one in the garage. I'll be happy to have him home again. We love all of our children very much.
Been nice talking to you.
Until July 2010, when her eyesight deteriorated, my mother wrote 1000s of chatty letters during her lifetime - to her parents, in-laws, sisters, children, friends. Tho she started to write to me on a regular basis in Sept '68 when I began my freshman year at SUNY-Buffalo, it wasn't until 10 years later that I decided to hold onto them. (Very inconsistently at first, to which the big gaps between dates attest.) These are the letters transcribed, annotated, and otherwise highlighted here.
