We went to the Mall this aft.  I got 2 extra large bath towels at Penney's on sale.  Dale & Barb like the larger ones.  Then I checked out the discount shoe store & got a pair of black flats for walking.  Naturalizers. Slip ons & comfortable.  Then to KMart for soap, cleaners, etc.
 
Lynn asked Barb to work Mon-Thurs from 1-4:30 doing cleaning, changing beds, etc.  Next week Bert has a cataract removed & wanted Barb to sit with her that aft.  But Barb can't do it.  Barb wondered, with all her friends, why Bert would need her.

I now watch Barney Miller from 4-5 pm.  I call it my hour of laughing.  Some scenes are so funny -- it's fun to watch & makes me feel good.

Was supposed to see Dr. McNett today but he wouldn't be in so I'll see him 2 weeks from today.

Got your letter today.  I don't think the O.T. stories were used much in S.S.  I remember using a flannelgraph about Naaman being cleansed from leprosy.  The most I remember about Jacob was that he was in love with Rachel & he was willing to wait 14 years for her after being ticked by Laban.  But I guess he didn't really wait 7 more years until he "had" her before.   But usually the theme was patience & you'll get your reward.  You made things sound very interesting & I'm sure no one was bored in that session.  What will your book be for the April session.  I once was asked to give a book report to a YW group of women at Gt. Falls.  I did it

Kim stopped in today.  She thinks Lar should go to the reunion & Dale would like to go.  Barb isn't interested & Kim is on the committee for Warren Hi class reunion & that is the next week &^ she figures she'd be busy with duties for that.  So maybe the 3 of us will come, but nothing is definite yet.

Larry got the flooring for their bedroom at the camp -- hickory wood.  They have a friend in Youngsville they get it from him.

Just finished reading an interesting book The Thin Woman by Dorothy Cannell.  Easy reading.  The author was born in England but now lives with her family in Peoria, Il.  It's her first book but I'm sure I saw another book by her a week ago at the library.  I'll keep a lookout for it.  I'm tired of reading books with a lot of swearing & sex.  Kim was saying a teacher took a busload of kids to a hockey game in Erie & the kids had a great time.  Why -- in front of them they had a ball -- watching a drunk who was finally escorted out.  And one of the hocked players name was Pecker & the audience kept shouting "Pecker, Pecker".  Because of some of the books I've read, I knew the meaning of that.  It wasn't something I learned as a teenager!  How times have changed.

Scott is now on Ritalin & Barb can see an improvement.  I'm sure the teacher was glad.  He was really out of hand.

I'm also ready Evening Class by Maeve Binchy.  I like her books.

Now it's Sun the 11th.

Read Evening Class til 11 pm last nite.  It is a good book.  After lunch today I read & then took a nap.  Now I'll add a bit while I have a coffee break.

The sun is shining but it is a cold day.  Was cold walking to church.

If we visit Mim & Tom's cabin would we stay in a motel.  I know Ruth spoke of staying in a motel up there & I would prefer it for myself.  Getting up during the nite is always a problem & it's part of my life now.

How said for Lila & Gen. Gen isn't able to do all that is necessary.   Hope they will get into a home & get proper care.  They should have the means for it -- there must be some sort of help for them.

Tues A.M.  I finished my Tues AM chores & I'm going for a walk.  A nice sunny day, again.

I'm watching the British Open with Tiger Woods in the lead.  It's wonderful golf to watch.  It will be hard to write a letter because I have to watch what Tiger does.  What a talent.

We're hearing so much about the "rages" of today.  How do parents behave at Andy and Eddie's games.

Thanks for the copy of the menu -- it means that a lot of work had to be done to have enough food for all.

Last Tues. Dale was late in coming home on his early week.  Reason, he cut his hand using a utility knife, with a new blade, cutting cardboard.  He went to the emergency room & had 3 stitches.  It is healing fine.  Had to have a tetanus shot.

Sat, yesterday, he went to Oak Express in Erie & got an oak dresser & an entertainment center, also in oak.  It looks so nice.  Together he spent $700.00.  The dresser was 1/2 price because of minor defects.  It is very attractive.  W hat a difference furniture can make in a room.

Tomorrow I have a Dr. appt.  Regular check up.

One of Kim's friends -- she teaches at Warren Hi -- was able to find a house she could afford.  She will be moving in next Sun. & Lar & Kim will help.  Kim wondered about the twin bed we got for Dad.  You can't sell (thru an ad) a used bed & we have no use for it so "Dannie" can have it.  It was covered with a plastic mat &U then with a mattress pad so it is clean & spotless.  Eddie always said it was a comfortable place to rest.  It will be one less item in the attic.

I made a blueberry coffee cake & it's good.  A batter & then you sprinkle 1 c. of blueberries.  Also made a 1 crust blueberry pie & it came out really good.  Use half of the berries mixed with sugar, water & cornstarch til it thickens, etc.  Put rest of berries in the baked shell & pour the cooked berry sauce over it & chill.  Lar had a 2nd piece as did Dale.

If you watched any of the British Open, did you notice how deep the bunkers were & so small in diameter & deep, deep, deep.

Now to baseball.  The Mets beat the Braves yesterday aft. 4-0, so I was pleased.  And tonite they are on ESPN with Jon & Joe as announcers, 2 of the best.  Gary Thorn is right up there with them.

Tiger's girlfriend is JoAnna.  And she's white.  And Tiger won -- the announcers really heaped lots of praise of Tiger for what he has accomplished.

Last Fri I saw Lauri Heckler (she's on Jefferson & used to do my hair) & next fall she will be teaching at Allegany Valley -- 2nd grade -- regular & not special ed. as she did in Tidioute.  Danny graduated from Wrrn Hi last June & Allison goes into 9th.  She said it was well worth the effort of finishing college as she loves teaching.

We've really had a cool summer, esp. this last week.  Nights are cool but it's suppose to start warming up.  68 in Buffalo now.  I wouldn't mind it a little warmer & forget the humidity.  I'm dreaming.

Still Sun.  Was sitting on the porch reading & Mr. Bonace walked by.  He told me he joined Weight Watchers & has lost 15 lbs.  He also walks morning & evenings.  He was getting heavy.

Now it's Tues A.M. & I've got my work done.  So I'm enjoying a cup of coffee, an oatmeal cooky & watching "Murder She Wrote".

Kim was telling us an 8th grade girl got caught selling Ritalin & Marisa was involved somehow.  Gossip can't be kept under control & Lynn has said nothing to Barb.  Poor Lynn with 2 problem kids.  The girl that got caught starts 9th grade in Alternative Ed. for the whole year.  According to gossip Marisa got off "because the parents have money".

Guess I've covered the news & gossip here.  Oh yes, my physical went fine.  Blood pressure OK, except I gained 3 lbs in 5 months. It's time to do something about it, I tell myself.  Time will tell what kind of self control I have.  Thyroid OK.

Got your letter today.  Thanks for the pictures of Andy.  He looks so good in his uniform.  I can picture him in a few years answering the telephone calls from the gals.

We enjoyed Carole and Arland's visit this aft.  Got all the news.

Guess it's serious with Rachel & her English boyfriend.  He's sent out resumes & has had a few nibbles.  But he must have a U.S. visa before they will hire him.  They are working on that.

Joyce & her husband are building a home in Cle Elum, Wash.  Their oldest daughter is to be married in Nov, I think Carole said.  The youngest one has a boyfriend, also.

None of Dad's sisters are too good except Ruth.

C. & A. attended the 150th anniversary of the former Augustana Church.  They bro't us a program & booklet about it.  Lots of former Augustana pastors there.  Would have been nice to be able to go.  They met Ruth & Russ Thelin who attended.

Suppose it will be awhile before you know how Ritalin will help Eddie.  Are there any side effects.  I liked his answer to the Dr.  The impulses are something he can't help.

Dad is in bed, Barb is ready for bed & Dale is in Troy.  Now that it gets dark early Dad is ready for bed early.  I'm watching Mon. nite football as well as trying to write a letter.

Were you able to take in a Milwaukee vs. St. Louis baseball game to see McGwire hit a home run.

It's suppose to cool off on Tues & I hope it's true.  It has been a bad time for me - perspiring.

Carole looked so nice.  Arland is getting a little tummy.  It's only a 2 hr. trip from Pittsburgh to Mpls.

Back to Andy's pictures - I'm glad you included the names as now I can put a name to a face - names of friends you mention.  Ross for one.

I've hit a snag so I'll close for tonite & hope I don't forget to mail it.

Now it's Tues. nite.

Dad fell yesterday & Barb managed to get him up.  Again tonite he fell & I called for Lar but he wasn't home yet so Kim came over & got him up.  It scares him to fall.  He starts walking & then loses his balance & falls.

Kim was telling us she saw Karen Seeley Setili & she said Rick had a job offer in Toronto but she wouldn't leave Rose.  Rick works for the hospital now.  In computers.  He's a great guy.

It's nice that Andy & Eddie can stay along when you go out.  Of course the money is an encouragement.  And I used to sit for 50 cents, 7:30 - 10:30 or 11 pm.  Money went further or is it farther in those day.

 Now it's Wed.  I'll sign off & Walk to the mail box at 5th Ave.

Have a pumpkin cake in the oven.  Recipe from Women's Day.  Sounds good so I hope it tastes good.
