Got your letter today.  Thanks for the pictures of Andy.  He looks so good in his uniform.  I can picture him in a few years answering the telephone calls from the gals.

We enjoyed Carole and Arland's visit this aft.  Got all the news.

Guess it's serious with Rachel & her English boyfriend.  He's sent out resumes & has had a few nibbles.  But he must have a U.S. visa before they will hire him.  They are working on that.

Joyce & her husband are building a home in Cle Elum, Wash.  Their oldest daughter is to be married in Nov, I think Carole said.  The youngest one has a boyfriend, also.

None of Dad's sisters are too good except Ruth.

C. & A. attended the 150th anniversary of the former Augustana Church.  They bro't us a program & booklet about it.  Lots of former Augustana pastors there.  Would have been nice to be able to go.  They met Ruth & Russ Thelin who attended.

Suppose it will be awhile before you know how Ritalin will help Eddie.  Are there any side effects.  I liked his answer to the Dr.  The impulses are something he can't help.

Dad is in bed, Barb is ready for bed & Dale is in Troy.  Now that it gets dark early Dad is ready for bed early.  I'm watching Mon. nite football as well as trying to write a letter.

Were you able to take in a Milwaukee vs. St. Louis baseball game to see McGwire hit a home run.

It's suppose to cool off on Tues & I hope it's true.  It has been a bad time for me - perspiring.

Carole looked so nice.  Arland is getting a little tummy.  It's only a 2 hr. trip from Pittsburgh to Mpls.

Back to Andy's pictures - I'm glad you included the names as now I can put a name to a face - names of friends you mention.  Ross for one.

 Andy, Ross, Riley

I've hit a snag so I'll close for tonite & hope I don't forget to mail it.

Now it's Tues. nite.

Dad fell yesterday & Barb managed to get him up.  Again tonite he fell & I called for Lar but he wasn't home yet so Kim came over & got him up.  It scares him to fall.  He starts walking & then loses his balance & falls.

Kim was telling us she saw Karen Seeley Setili & she said Rick had a job offer in Toronto but she wouldn't leave Rose.  Rick works for the hospital now.  In computers.  He's a great guy.

It's nice that Andy & Eddie can stay along when you go out.  Of course the money is an encouragement.  And I used to sit for 50 cents, 7:30 - 10:30 or 11 pm.  Money went further or is it farther in those day.

Now it's Wed.  I'll sign off & Walk to the mail box at 5th Ave.

Have a pumpkin cake in the oven.  Recipe from Women's Day.  Sounds good so I hope it tastes good.

The ballgame doesn't look good (2nd inning).  At least Minn. won.

Thanks for a wonderful visit.  We had such a good time & seeing Andy was so great.  We enjoyed our visit in Rkfd too.  Celebrated our birthdays again on Sat.  Signe, Geo. & Roland came.  Linda & children were at her sisters for a birthday party so Roland drove the car.

On the way we stopped at the Freeman Factory Outlet in Beloit & it is a great place to shop for both men & women.  Shoes, clothing, underwear & a place for sheets, towels, etc.  We enjoyed it.  Dad got a pair of pants, shirt, & sweater vest.  I got a pair of slippers.

Now for some news.

1)  Curt & his wife expect their 3rd in Jan.  Have 2 boys & she is teaching.

2)  Greg (Joyce) was let go as a pilot in Seattle but they will stay there & he hopes to find other work.  They sold the Co. Jet & laid off the last 2 pi9lots Hired & Greg was one.

3)  David's wife is a Methodist minister & they were married by a Judge & later went to the Luth. church for a blessing of the marriage.

4)  Michelle (Anita's daughter) husband left her, came back long enough to get her pregnant & left her again.  Baby born in Aug so she has 2 girls & lives with Anita.  Mickey (Sharlynn's daughter) quit school but isn't working as she was in an accident a year ago & was in pain & couldn't concentrate in school.

June gave us letters, etc. we had sent home to Grandma N. & we found a picture of Paul at 6 weeks & it looks like Andy.

Barb enjoyed looking thru the book on Wisc.  We do enjoy looking thru it.

Went walking with Joyce today.  It was so beautiful & the sky so blue.

When we entered Pa. it was good to see the hills with their colors.

Dale's license finally came.  He bot another Oldsmobile & will work it over.  He hopes to sell the Firebird that sits in the garage.

Excuse the scribbling but wanted to get a letter off.

Again many thanks.  Kiss Andy for us!

Maybe I can write a Note & watch the Mets at the same time.

Joyce O'Connor & I started walking last nite.  Walked to the Glade bridge & back.  Took us a little over an hour.  This aft. we walked to the West End as far as Morrison St. & returned via 4th ave.  We're going to walk an hr. a day as much as possible.  We walk & talk.  Barb said she didn't think I had it in me to walk an hour.  She doesn't know her mother!

Lar & Kim had a nice trip - enjoyed seeing their new niece & visiting with her "Gram" in Atlanta.  When they got back Kim had an invitation to a baby shower & she asked Barb to knit a baby blanket.  So Barb is busy knitting all day & hopes to get it completed.  She thinks she will.   I'm glad to see her do something besides read & take notes.  Emulating Paul, I think!

Had a letter from Millie & Jerry is no better.  She plans to go back to work 3 days a week in Sept.  Too lonely being home.  Edna takes her food shopping (Jerry wouldn't let her drive) & her kids are good to help.  Larry, Debbie & baby some home each weekend.  Jerry only weighs 112 lbs.  Gen & Ed help out too.

Ruth called & she said Lila would need surgery - neck arteries are clogged.  Rudy's legs are bothering him.  Svea got up during the nite & didn't use her cane & slipped & hurt her bad arm.  Greg's (Joyce husband) father died & they were away & by the time they got to him & he could get to Rkfd (no cars to rent at the airport in Chicago) & to the church, the service was about over.;

Dad plans to paint the house.  But he decided he couldn't do the high spots & Dale said "I won't go up there" so we were in a quandry.  He decided to put a vinyl soffet up & will have to get someone to do it & they can't til Nov.  Last nite Lar said He'd do the hi spots for 12.00 an hr.  Dad said that's fine with me.  Don't think Lar expected that.  So Dad plans to start painting where he can reach & Lar will paint when he can.  We'll leave the shakes a brown & the lower part will be beige instead of yellow.  Front porch & some trim an off white.  Dad rented a hi pressure water spray to wash the house & it did a good job.  Dad has scraped touched up the bare spots.  So it's all set to paint.  It should look nice when completed.

Hope to hear some good news soon.

It's still too warm & muggy to clean so I'll put it off til Thurs. & writer letters.  Dad went to get a haircut & then we'll get groceries.

Yesterday was a fun day.  Ate breakfast at Perkins & decided to drive to Erie.  Went to the Factory Outlet Mall & got a couple of things.  Then to Millcreek Mall & found 2 skirts on sale & Dad got a pair of pants.  At lunch at the Brown Derby, walked around some more & returned home.  Tried on my purchases & then went out to eat dinner.   My kind of day.

Interrupted by the phone & it was Ruth to tell us Svea had a stroke & is in the hospital.  She can talk but is paralyzed.  Now things might come to a head & she'll realize she can't live alone in that big house -- keep it up, lawns, etc.

Min, Lila & Gen might go down there to be with her as they were planning a trip.

And Stella won her case but doesn't know yet how much money she'll get back.  Not all of it.

And Dan decided he should go back to Palmer so his wife called & they were having a crash course (10 days) on Therapy (what he needed).  He was accepted, got the money & got there & got 2 A's on the courses.  Now he'll have two more Utah tests to take & then he'll be able to be a Chiropractor.  A new Dr. is in Utah & he became friends with Dan & encouraged him & maybe after the 1st of the year Dan's dreams can be fulfilled.  He can go into practice with this Dr.  Now he is a school custodian & that can't support his family too easily.

Joyce & Greg bot a house on Puget Sound, South of Everett.  They'll be moving soon.

We had a quiet 4th.  Lar & Kim stopped by in the evening.  I got a corn popper for the microwave & it works well.  Cheaper than buying the micro popcorn.  With this you can use the regular popcorn.

Afternoon baseball as the Mets play the Reds - they'd better win this aft.

Dad hasn't played golf yet this week.  Mon. to hot; yesterday we were gone; today wet.  Maybe tomorrow as it is suppose to be nicer.

Last nite Lar & Kim & Lee Borger & his wife rode their motorcycles to Nik l Inn for dinner.

Next Mon. we are going to Peek'n'Peak with Bensons, Hollertzs & Shaffers.

How are things with you.

Sunday, June 8, 1986

We've had some busy days since the wedding.  Enjoyed our visit with Rol & Linda.  Enjoyed their home.  Tues. we went to Door County to a Swedish Restaurant with a sod roof & goats eating the grass.  A smaller roof was being mowed.  An interesting sight.  Linda told us more about Carolyn & Jim. She visits him in Calif. & his son told her his mother is moving to Cal. & plans to live with her husband.  Linda is afraid Carolyn will end up holding the bag.  Also she & Ken are buying a condominium & she will live in the condo 2 weeks & Ken will live at home with Paul & then they'll exchange.  Doesn't sound very practical.  I talked with Carolyn at the wedding & it sounds like she isn't active at church anymore.

Had a nice visit in Rkfd.  More sad news there when Stella moved to Rkfd. a friend got her to invest her savings with him.  The money from the house was invested O.K. but she had 30,000 in savings & he persuaded her to invest it in a mall in Fla.  So she thot!  Came to find out it was invested in a Fla pub & you know how much she is against liquor, & the place went bankrupt & she lost the money.  She took him to court but I don't know how much hope there is.  She withdrew the other investment and invested it elsewhere.  Some people learn the hard way & she doesn't have it to lose.

It was good to get home but on Thurs. we left for Synod at Thiel - our last if merger goes thru.  We will be in N.W. Pa. synod with Erie as the large city.  3 were ordained & 2 were women.  It was an inspiring service.

Now we're home & we'll have to work inside & on the lawn.  I ordered a large mirror for over the sink in the bathroom & another cabinet to go on the side wall.  And we got a hanging lamp for the bathroom with 2 bulbs that hang down.  Got the idea from Linda's bath & also Joyce's home.  Greg has been transferred to Seattle & started there already.  Joyce is out there looking for a house with Greg.  They are thinking of the Edmonds area.  Their Rkfd. home is lovely.  Master bedroom has its own bath & a large closet.
y now you are in the apt. & Paul is looking forward to his first day on a new job.  And JoAnna is thinking about a job.  Right?

At church this A.M. people were anxious to hear about the wedding & they want to see pictures.  Lar's came out good & I'm getting reprints made.  The one taken with Barb didn't come out so I was disappointed.  In the Rkfd. paper we saw an ad for a Nanny for a couple in Austria.  Baby sitting & light housework & pocket money.  Ruth called & the couple was flying in.  But then I thot about light housekeeping & pocket money so I didn't try to get in touch with Barb.

Got my yearly physical & all is well except the scale goes up so I'm really going to have to try to stop that!

Lar & Kim's engagement was announced in the paper but no picture.  Kim wanted it that way.  Camera shy!  No date yet but I think it'll be '87 & maybe Oct.

I'm not sure how to address the envelope so I did it the "old fashioned" way.  Let me know how to do it.

We're grilling steaks & they are ready & the Mets are coming on.  The wedding still brings many happy memories.

P.S.  When we got home on Sat. a letter from Soc. Security saying they regularly review the accounts & found that I was due more money.  So I have a 13.00 a month increase plus a lump sum of what was past due.  That will come after July 2.  I'll put it in the bank.

Have you noticed the Mets are 9 games in front.  Rol has a bet with the neighbor - Sox vs Milwaukee & I think this year Roll will lose 5.00.  But he won 10.00 when the Bears won last Fall.  They have nice neighbors.

Better quit for sure!
