Yesterday Lynn called Barb.  They had a bad weekend.  Bob's heart acted up & spent a nite in the hospital.  He has to take high blood pressure meds.  During the nite, their phone rang. Lynn wondered if something happened to her parents.  It was Scott calling from his room saying he didn't feel good.  She got him to the bathroom but he upchucked on the bathroom floor.  They had to remove the rug & clean the floor but it still smelled.  He did go to school even tho he still didn't feel good.  So he skipped track practice.  Lynn told him Marisa could pick him up after school.  "No, said Scott."  I ant Barb to take me home."  So she helped him study for a test.  Today there is an away track meet but he didn't go -- he is afraid to ride a bus.

Dale said by fixing his Monte Carlo, he gave himself a birthday present.  I'm making a sweet German choc. cake, his choice, for his birthday.

Enjoyed reading your letter & hearing all about Disney World. I know it isn't the place for me -- too much walking, too many people.  It is for younger people.  I'm content where I am.

This A.M. I  washed the kitchen floor & dusted downstairs.  After lunch we got groceries.

The Mets play at Wash. & it is an aft. game.  I'm trying to see the score but the commercials interfere.  Mets 7, wn. 1, final.  The Mets are winning!

Today the new neighbors (Carey) started in on fixing up the landscaping.  All the trees (shrubbery) have been taken out.  They are starting from scratch.  By our property, it will be lawn.  It looks nice with those hemlocks taken down.  We're anxious to see how they'll landscape it.  Bet it will cost plenty.  He has a 6 figure salary, I'm sure.

I got a turkey breast for Easter.  Lar & Kim will be here.  Might try a cheesecake recipe for dessert.

Last Sun. I called Gen.  She said she saw me in church a few Sun. ago.  I said it must be someone who looks like me.  Then she wondered why I didn't come over.  I said I"m too far away for a drop in visit.  She thought I was in the area.

Barb got her bicycle "tuned up".  So now she is ready to start bike riding.  Lately she has been walking outside.  Yesterday we had blue, blue skies & warm temps.  Even warmer today but cloudy skies.  Nice.

Larry has started his "2nd job", working for himself.  He usually has a couple of big jobs he plans for over the winter.  He does OK as he has regular customers for trimming, etc.

Thurs. evening the 13th

WE had a nice birthday dinner.  He likes the pants & knit shirt I got him.  He tried them on & they fit perfectly.  I asked him not to wait too long to try them on in case I had to return them. Barb gave him a CD & a Dale Earnhardt shirt.  Kim & Lar gave him an auto washing kit.  Lar got one for himself & tho't Dale would like it as much as Lar does.  I'm sure he thanked you for your gift when you called him on Mon.  Next birthday Barb -- she told me I could give her money -- then she can get what she likes.

No school Wed-Mon -- 12th-17th.  East vacation.

Yesterday Kim, Betsy, & Michelle went to the Indian Casino.  Michelle won $1000.00 on the 5 cent machine.  They always divide their winnings.  Kim gave some of hers to the Cancer Society.  Today they went to Erie & Kim spent her Christmas gift card from you folks.

Mets won again today.  WOW!!  Now they go to Milwaukee.  Barb went online & got the Mets TV schedule for 2006 on SB11.  Channel 15 for us.

Collins' house has a "sold" sign on the For Sale sign.   On Conewango between 3rd & Verbeck.  Lar said Patterson's house up the st. will be going up for sale.  He is the funeral director.  They will be moving to one of the Carolinas, to be closer to their 2 daughters.

Marisa's "naughty" boyfriend stole $35,000 so he is really in trouble now.  She still doesn't want to let go of him but Lynn hopes this will be the end of it.  She will never change him.

Sheila & Sue added another girl to their salon, so now there are 4 gals plus 1 part time. They don't want to get too big but if they have a following that will make it nice.

I'm watching Phillies at Atlanta.  Phillies won last nite (so did the Pirates who came from behind vs. L.A.) & are ahead tonite.  I'm sure they miss their pitcher coach Leo Muscilli (sp) who went to Baltimore.  Mets to go Atlanta Sat & Sun Apr 29 &30.  The Mets should do better (I hope) this year.  Atlanta just has "regular" pitching now.

Soon my bedtime.

Jack and Boxer, at peace

This is Dale's A.M. to work til 12 noon so I was up early.  Made a coffee cake & worked on my puzzle.  It is only 10:20 A.M. & it seems like a long A.M.  So I'll start a letter to do something different.

Today's paper showed another person running for County Commissioner making the total 15 so far!  (19 now.)  Many want to oust the present men as they are not well liked because of their deeds.  A part time job with a good salary.  I wonder what the job qualifications are.  Notoro from Clarendon, who is 87, will run as a write-in.  He has never won an election but keeps trying.  He probably can't produce enough names for the petition.  Only 4 will be nominated.  2 from each party.

You've probably noticed that the people in Tidioute are upset because students 9-12 grades will attend Youngsville Hi next fall.  Some refused to make out their classes for Sept.  More fun, more letter to the editor.

The library is upset (my thoughts go ahead of my hand) because finances will be cut 50% due to the passage of the 1st part of the Gov. budget.  If they aren't opened enough hours they will lose $80,000.  And they can't run it on less money.  This is all due to the Rep. who surprised the Dem. by calling for a vote with no discussion.  They are in the majority so it's all politics!  Naturally is passed.  Each trying to outwit the other.  Why am I so eager to read the paper very morning.  The gov. might veto it.

It's a beautiful day before another cold spell due next week.  Barb plans to wash the van & I'm sure Dale sill stay past noon to wash his Blazer.  The car washes should be busy today.  It gives one a real lift to see the sun & the tempts climb into the high 40's.

Barb is counting calories & I've become more calorie conscious when I read how many calories are in my favorite snacks.  So I'm trying to be more careful because it is so easy to watch the scale climb higher.

Mon. A.M., Mar. 10

Lar called to tell me that Mike B. called him, after getting a call from John, Paula's husband, (finally) to tell him Carey's sold their house.  But Lar is to sound surprised when Mr. Carey calls to tell him. Lar is happy as he won't do yard work for the new owner.  Dale just started using the garage so he'll have to stop now.  Carey's will have to come home earlier as I'm sure the new owners will want to move in as soon as possible.

Had a couple of very ripe bananas & didn't want to make ban. bread so I tried a banana bar recipe from the St. Paul cook book -- Evelyn Bergland's recipe.  Tried a small sample &^ it's good.  I'll bring some to Bible Study, for coffee & sandwiches, tomorrow.

Eddie's latest Lego creation

Wed. Mar. 12

Bert got a carbon monoxide meter for her house & it started beeping.  Barb is upset about working there.  Bert said she couldn't do anything about it as she had to get ready to go out to lunch.  But she did call to have the furnace checked -- the other reason would be the water heater but that is only 2 years old.

Barb mentioned Andy will be 15 1/2 Marc 15.  Does that mean he will want to start driving, getting a permit, etc.  Does it mean a few more gray hairs!!  Or does it mean a 3rd car in your driveway?  Fun days ahead.

I got an invitation to Beth Darling's wedding & reception Apr. 5th.  I don't care to go alone but I'll send a card & a gift of money.  The 3rd wedding for that family.  All kids will be married.

Bert is going to NYC the end of the month to get her taxes done.  Legally she is a resident of New York & is taxed according to N.Y. laws.  When she is gone we hope to go to Erie & the Mall.

Bert gets a new furnace tomorrow Thurs.

Red-cheeked, out of breath, Eddie heads for the bench to take a break

Thurs. A.M.

We have snow showers but I got the garbage out early & missed it.

Back to Careys -- they will live in Fla. & move their furniture down there until they decide where they want to live.  Philly or Buffalo area.

We think spring is coming!

We played dominoes & chicken scratch (is that it) with Min & Lila & it was fun.

I'll add a P.S.

Tonite Kim told us she hasn't been feeling or sleeping well.  She has an irregular heart beat, as many people do, but it happens every minute or minute and a half.  She can feel it, also.  The blood test showed nothing bad.  Sat. she will wear some sort of a vest to check her heart.  The Dr. hasn't been able to find any cause.  Once he finds out I'm sure she'll have some medication.  You can tell she is very concerned.  The Dr. said to lay off wine & drink decaf.  I didn't know about it but my coffee is weaker & she had 2 cups.  Next week I'll have decaf.  Slow up on the exercise as well.  She likes to lift weights at the Y.  Also when she had a blood test it was hard to get blood for 3 vials.  Just wanted to let you know what is going on in the family.

Today would have been Edna's 86th birthday.

I mentioned to Dale that Andy wanted to be a blond.  Dale said "at least he didn't want to dye it red or blue."  Barb said that Lynn had Scott's hair highlighted & she likes it.  Guess I didn't keep a close eye on my children.  I can't remember you doing anything to your hair, as I don't remember.  Repeating myself.

After lunch I went to CVS for 2 prescriptions, returned 2 library books & cashed a check for next month's expenses.  Nice day for a walk.

Read a new (for me) author.  Hot Six by Janet Evanovich.  It was very different & I don't think I'll read any more of her books.  Also The Nightingale Legacy by Catherine Coulter.  That is more of the style I really like to read.

Bert is cold all the time but can't find a wool sweater.  Barb has some she knit she doesn't wear so she bro't one over to Bert & she paid Barb $25.00 for it.  She'd like Barb to knit her a white wool longer cardigan.  Barb found another bright navy cardigan she gave her.  She said she'd pay for it.

Last Thurs. Kim stopped over for coffee & a chat.  She asked if we'd like to go out for dinner Fri. nite.  I'm always ready to eat out.  We went to Nickel Inn.  I had the fish fry & lemon meringue pie.  Lar had lobster & steak.  We thought of Eddie & his love for lobster.  It is always crowded there & Kim & Larry knew a lot of people.  It is a popular place for Warrenites.  Kim & Barb had the fish fry & Dale had steak.  Lar & Dale also had dessert.

Someone is looking at Carey's house -- they have come down to $135,000 Lar said.  It's been 2 years on the market.  Mr. C told Lar he lost $100,000 on the stock market.  So have a lot of other people.

4 more days of August & I'm glad it's coming to an end.  No more Lynch TV ads!  Really overkill.  Mornings are darker now.  The summer flew by.

The teachers had special sessions Monday & Tuesday & tomorrow the kids go back to school.  At least it isn't hot & humid.

Back to blond hair -- Alex Keeney (Johnson's house) has colored his hair blond.  So has the sister who graduated from high school last June.  Alex starts Beaty now -- 5th grade.

I didn't get any library books today as I'm working on another puzzle with colored flowers so I sit a lot & study the colors & find a few matches.  It will come together in time & a little patience.

When Lar & Kim's friends in Pleasant Township sold their home Lar said to be sure & tell them he doesn't continue to tend their property.  The same when Carey's house sells.  He'd like to give up some of the trimming jobs he has -- the only way it will happen is, if they give up their homes.  Many are widows & they depend on Larry.

Did you notice my poor Mets finally won 2 games last week after losing 12 in a row.  I'm still a Met fan!

You'll have to send me a picture of the boys in their football gear or should I say uniforms.

Fri A.M.

Kim endured the first day with just one problem. An 8th grade girl didn't obey the dress code.  She got thru to the 8th period & Kim sent her to the office.  No other teacher cared to tell her.  That is the problem -- no one cares.  Kim has no gray period -- it's either black or white.  But she cares.  Oh yes she heard a 14 year old fellow, handsome, good student & athlete got a 20 year old gal pregnant this summer.  What was he thinking!  He wasn't.

Gen called.  All seems to be going OK.  She hopes to be able to get a car in the near future.  Poor John. I think they should take "the bull by the horns" & tell her she must see a Dr. & that they think she might have Altszimer's.  (I'll have to learn how to spell that.)  Or find out what the problem is & get medication.  They are afraid of her reaction.

In your letter you mentioned "mulligans" in connection to golf & I never heard that phrase.  Kim clued me in so I learned a new word!  I always thought it was a stew!!

I need to write to Millie, Gen & Darla.

Tuesday, July 16, 2002

I'm sitting on the front porch & decided I'd better start a letter.

Yesterday was a busy day.  Got my usual Mon. jobs accomplished & got a perm at 11 AM.  I really needed one -- long & not much curl.  What a relief to have curl again.  In the aft. we went grocery hopping.  Got it out of the way.;  Barb works for Lynn. Tues. Wed & Thurs aft so it's after 4 before we can go grocery shopping.

Imagine you are a little relieved your big party is in the past.

Your Wed. family outing sounded very interesting.

I tried an author new to me.  Karen Robards.  It took me a few pages to want to continue but I really enjoyed it.  Another author I plan to check out is Judith McNaught.  Robard's books have a southern flavor.  I'll get more of her books.

Paul, don't you know the grass is always greener on the other side of the street in reference to Middleton vs. Cross Plains.

Kim comes home today.  We'll hear about her trip on Thurs.  I know she played golf a couple of times & they would visit her twin aunts who live close to her sister.

Torey won't be happy this weekend as Kim & Larry will leave on Sat & stay overnite, coming home sun nite.  With Betsy Moran & her husband, whose name I can never remember, they will drive their Miata to Corning, N.Y. & stay overnite there.  Betsy's husband had to heave a Miata convertible after he saw Larry's.  His is navy blue.  It should be a fun time for them.

Last nite Dale went out on Sam B's boat at the Dam. They swam & had a good time.

Twice today the same people looked at Carey's house.  It is taking a long time to sell. Don't know if they have come down on the price.

I mentioned Bert's relative, 10 yr. old Courtney, was here for dinner.  She seemed to enjoy herself.  She is very talkative & can be funny.  It was nice.  She ate everything on her plate.  After miniature golf they got ice cream.  Both Bert & Courtney's mother like to drink & it doesn't take many drinks to affect them.

I got nowhere with USA's puzzle today.  It was harder than usual.

I can't believe it -- the Mets are playing winning ball.  Bo Vaughn & Jeromy Bernitz are hitting finally.  Maybe they can climb the ladder a bit.

Wed. nite

Dale is reading the book on NASCAR you gave him for his birthday & finding it very interesting.

It's a hot day -- AC is on -- & when I finished the dishes I watered the flowers in pots & the rose bushes.  They are blooming.  Lar doesn't think the soil is that good for roses.  We'll see. He planted roses for Careys & they are going good.

Barb saw that Hatch Patch had corn & bo't some & it is delicious.  We're lucky to have Hatch Patch.

Dale is home shortly after 4 pm & gets into shorts & sits in the yard & reads.  It's good to relax.  He had a headache yesterday.

Gen hasn't called so I called her last nite.  She said Ed is better & looks better.  Her impressions are different from Millie's.  he told me she is tired all the time.  I asked her if she's seen the Dr.  She told me she has her checkup in Aug.  It is hard to know what is going on when I'm in Pa.  Luckily Edith is a good sister in law & helps Gen.

We're hoping for rain tomorrow -- Thurs -- as it is in the forecast.  The lawns are so brown & the soil is cracking in places.  Barb keeps the veggies watered.  I saw a recipe for zucchini bread that calls for only 1 c. sugar & I want to try it.  They & the cucumber are ready to pick & we've enjoyed them.  We have green tomatoes on the vine.

Fri.  I'll get this finished.  Kim enjoyed her tip but was glad to be home. Tonite Lar & Kim are attending one of the plays at the Library Theater.
