It is a warm & muggy day.  I'm watching the Yankees vs. Mariners, & I'm rooting for the Mariners.who lead 2-1.  Mariners win!

I was up at 6 A.M. & started baking.  Coffee cake, banana bread in the freezer & choc. chip cookies.  Was finished at 8 A.M. & then ate breakfast.  Dale worked this A.M.

At 10 we went to the Mall.  Sales are good now.  I got a pr. of slacks & a top, & Barb got 2 tops.  When I got home I made a tuna-macaroni salad for supper.  Barb & Dale will have a hamburger & we have corn on the cob & fruit.  So it's an easy meal on a hot day.
I didn't enjoy my meal yesterday but that is the first time since we've gone to lunch at Holiday Inn. Quite a number there for lunch.  I ordered the quiche & so did Pat but it was all gone.  So we both got the special -- fish & chips.  Too highly seasoned & neither of us were happy with it.  But the dessert was good.  Lemon cake with raspberry sauce.  Very attractive & tasty.  Ohio friends couldn't come because their daughter delivered at 7 month & both mother & child were in danger.

I like to watch those birthing stories on TV & after watching long, hard deliveries, I marvel at how easy it was for me.  As soon as the pains started I was ready.  Barb came in 2 hours. Lucky me.  I've been pretty lucky all my life.  Good husband & a super family.

Larry & Kim are taking Tues. & Wed. off next week & will go to Erie & the peninsula.  And the weather sounds good.  Suppose to be drier and warmer.

Kim was watching Martha Stewart & they were talking about stationery & letter writing.  She said letter writing was a lot art & Kim tho't to herself -- not my brother-in-law or my mother-in-law.  I like writing to you all because I'll get an answer.  Too many don't answer letters anymore.  Then it's no fun to write.

Dr. McNett is retiring & that makes me very unhappy.  Due to health reasons & he's only in his middle 50s.  His wife isn't well either.  He's been my Dr. for over 20 years.

There are 3 baby birds in the geranium plant.

Mon. Aug 11

Thanks for the pictures -- they are very nice & bring back many happy memories.

Your front door sounds nice & also the windows.  You'll enjoy washing them.

Ron Polley stopped by today.  We chose the materials -- a brown mixture which will improve the looks of the house.  Bert had 3 estimates for her new roof, chose the cheapest one & isn't happy with the results.  We have proof he does good work -- neighbors garage.  They might start tomorrow or the next day.  Take the old shingles off & put roof paper on & get it all ready for the new shingles.  I didn't think he'd start so soon.  I paid him $1.000.00 today -- said I wouldn't have to pay 1/3 down.  It will cost close to $7500.00.  My vacations.  I'm lucky to be able to do this.

Wed. the 13th

It's very humid & tough to be working on a roof.  They started yesterday with garage & it's all set for shingles.  Now they're working on the house getting all the shingles off.  3 sets of them.  Ron asked to check the attic because the 1st set of shingles came to pieces & it seeped into the attic, so Barb and Dale will have a job vacuuming that up.

It's too hot to eat.  Told Dale I didn't know what to make for supper.  He said "pizza sounds good to me".

Bert is changing lawyers.  Barb took her to Jamestown this A.M. to see the new lawyer. She also changed banks.  From National City to PNC.  Many have changed from PNC to Northwest Savings -- I've thought of it but haven't.  Of course Nat. City tires to change Bert's mind.

I suppose Ruth must be in a nursing home now, where she receives care.  I'm assuming she can't completely care for herself.

The Beaty football team practices later in the day this year.  Usually they have had an A.M. & P.M.  practice.

Thurs A.M.  The humidity continues.  Could reach 90 today.  Barb wants to go to Jamestown but I don't think I will go.  Too hot & humid.

We got the necessary items for Lar's birthday dinner today.  Yesterday we got flowers & this aft. Barb is planting pots.  We chose pansies, petunias & dahlias plus allysum or however it is spelled .  They are looking nice.

This A.M. I made pie crust & banana bread.  Then my usual Tues. duties.  We're having an easy supper -- pizza & salad.  We are trying frozen Freschetta on Kim' recommendation.  They had a pizza party & tried different froz. pizzas.

I wrote what we are getting for Lar's birthday:  cherry beer but you can only get it in Erie & Kim's friend Nancy is going to Erie & will pick it up.  I did find a Snow Baby soccer figure so he has a little gift to open with his special "50 year" birthday card.

Fri. nite we are going out to celebrate Mother's Day.  I never like to go out on Mother's Day as it is usually so crowded.  So I prefer Fri. & we will go to Fernwood -- just out of Warren toward Sheffield.

The children's part of the library looks so nice.  Looking in you see a small arc of computers.  I never go into that room so I just get a glimpse of it.

Scott was telling Barb he is making bombs.  She cautioned him about talking about it in school as he could get in trouble.  She doesn't think it is true as he talks a lot about his ideas.  Lynn had a call from the school about his swearing on the school bus.  Poor Lynn & she wants everything so perfect.

Sat. Kim is planning a party for Lar.  Some of the couples they are with a lot.

I pressed Dale's birthday shirt & tan Dockers in case he wants to wear them Fri. nite.  He usually wears good jeans when we go out.  Now he has another pair he can wear.

I wonder -- I didn't find out what Lar wanted for his birthday dinner as I think he didn't tell me til Thurs. & by then your letter was set to mail on Fri.  I'll report:  turkey breast, sweet potatoes & apple pie.  I wrote to Gen & usually my letters are similar --i.e. news -- so sometimes I don't know what I write to whom.  I also wrote to Darla.  I'm glad you aren't an English prof & grading my letters.  At times they sound mixed up when I reread them.

Did I write I got another Country Cook Book & it has some good recipes.  With all the cook books I have, menu planning should be easy but it isn't.

Next Tues. is the Bible Study at church & I bring rolls for coffee.  Wed. at 1 pm I have a dentist applt & cleaning.  My usual schedule will be upset & somethings won't get done.

What room will JoAnna want to paint next.  Your bedroom color sounds nice.  A good way to get a room housecleaned or spring cleaning done.

Your writing about your library work never is boring for me.  I like to hear what is going on in your lives -- meaning the entire family.

Barb decided she needs more plants  so we'll go for more.

Things are happening in Warren.  Maybe it will wake up people to see that we need to move out of the rut the city is in & that improvements & jobs are needed.  The commissioners are in the hot seat, esp. Hunter.

Mary Ann Carey had surgery on her back in Fla.  They should be home any time now.

Larry & Mike were up in Buffalo a couple of weeks ago for Paula's husband's 40th birthday.  Kim was invited but she didn't go.  Mike & John (husband) became good friends as they were neighbors when they lived in Warren.  John would spend time with Mike.  I think sometimes Mary Ann & Jack come on too strong for John & he needed an escape.

The pizza was pretty good but rather spicy for my taste buds.  Good crust.

Barb gave me a rose plant for Mother's Day.  It will go in with the roses Lar planted years ago.  They are pretty but don't last to pick for a vase.  This one is a regular ever-blooming plant by Martha Stewart so it had better be good.  I might buy a 2nd one myself.  I like roses in a bud vase.  Barb's next job is to hose off the porch & get the porch furniture down from the attic.  Soon we should be able to sit out there & watch the cars go by.

I have to send my health insurance payment in each month by the 25th.  I completely forgot Apr. so it was late.  Now I put the envelopes I have addressed for each month by my church offering envelopes so I won't forget.

Friday, January 29, 1999

Dad didn't know or realize it was our anniversary.  But I do have a lot of good memories.  It doesn't seem possible it is 54 years of marriage.

Finally found the belt I got Barb as a Christmas gift.  Had a feeling it was in Dad's closet.  But we looked there.  This A.M. I looked again & there it was hanging on a hook amid Dad's ties.

Gen called on our anniv. & John is in N. Italy skiing & on the way back will spend 2 days in Brussels.  A 10 day trip.  John will be 38 in Nov.  Gen wants grandchildren!

I'm sure you got an invitation to Charles wedding.  Each one of us got one.  Dad & I, Barb, Dale.  I'm sure Lar got one.  Naturally we won't be there.  Will you make it.  Should be interesting.  Lila & Gen will be alone again.  Charles will be 62 in May.  You'll have to tell lus all about it - I'm sure you'll try to make it.

Sounds like Andy is getting to be a good rebounder.  He's getting to be quite the athlete.

Lar & Kim stayed til 9 pm last nite.  A longer visit.  Dad wondered who was here & when were they going home.  He's out of it more lately.  Some nites he doesn't want to take off his trousers & then we're in for a "fight".  I want them off - he doesn't & gets made at me.  Then he wants to hit me & I grab his hands - he's strong but I'm stronger.  Finally he gives up & let's me put his p/j/'s on.  More fun!  But sad.

Mon. it's Feb.  Jan. wasn't bad at all in spite of all the snow.  And Feb. goes fast I hope for a nice spring.

I long for the Fri nites when we used to go out to eat.  I never have anything in mind for Dad & me.  Barb fixes something for herself & Dale has tacos.  (I fix.)  Usually it's fish or waffles for us.

Received your letter today.  Always glad to receive & read them.  Nice you write to JoAnna's folks.  I always wrote to both folks & they appreciated it.

Did you notice your classmate is running for Commissioner - also Andy Yurick, Jr. & the one from Sheffield. We need some young blood in there.  Should be interesting to watch.  It might help our library.  How did the Sun. opening go.  (Library)
