This A.M. I finished Danish for Dale at work.  36 rolls.  And I cleaned a turkey.  Had planned on Beef Loin for tomorrow but waited too long to buy one, so I got the turkey out.  I did a little cleaning -- a "lick & a promise", in the bathrooms.  Then I got a shower & dressed for the day.  Just finished the USA Today crossword puzzle & decided to start a letter.  I'm surprised I have time to relax.  Kim & Lar won't be here until 6:30 or so; it will be 7 before we eat.  We're having shrimp cocktail, steak & lobster, baked pot. & tossed salad.  Didn't know what to have for dessert & Barb suggested Vienetta & said she'd go buy some.  She couldn't find it so she got a Breyers ice cream cake.  I'll still put out some cookies & candy -- made fudge & another choc. candy Sheila recommended.

At work today the guys chipped in for company provided $50 for a cash drawing & Dale won it.  Pa. now has the Power Ball lottery & Barb got 5 tickets & then went back & got 4 more for me for stocking gifts.  Are you shocked?

The fellows that worked 7-5 this week didn't have to work today.  Dale went in at 11 A.M. for the lunch & the place closed at noon.  He said the Mall was really crowded today -- from the looks of all the cars.  He thought about going in but he changed his mind.

Thursday

I'm taking it easy the rest of the week.  I need to.  Got everything in the washer (changed my sheets) & as I started writing I was sure I hadn't started the washer.  Sure enough, it was just waiting to be started.

We had a wonderful Christmas & thank you for your part.  I'm anxious to try the new baking sheets & liners.  Now I know what they are.  Barb's sweater & pin look so nice on her.  It's hard to get Dale anything but clothes & he appreciates that.  He likes everything including your sweater & book.  And Lar & Kim were thrilled with your gift -- it's a beautiful place according to an included picture & they are looking forward to seeing it in person, esp. the whirlpool tub or whatever you call them.  I was so surprised to get a TV for the bedroom & can't wait until ti is hooked up.  I said that was too much but Kim said they are here every Thurs & by the end of the week she appreciates it.  It works both ways as I'm sure I have contact with them every week.  And they are here birthdays & holidays.  So I'm thrilled to heave it.

Our Christmas Eve dinner was so delicious.  The lobster was so good.  Wasn't sure how to cook it & my old Fannie Farmer (shower gift) cookbook said to boil it 20 min.  And the Breyers ice cream cake is very delicious according to Lar, Barb & Dale.  Kim had a taste of Lar's so he had to have another piece before they left.

Our Christmas day dinner was similar to yours except we had corn pudding & no pumpkin pie.  Think we started a new Christmas Eve custom -- lobster & steak.

Kim will be glad to get back to work -- they have been on the go every day.  Tonite they go to Mike's house -- his sister Barbara is home for a visit & they always invite Lar & Kim over as Lar is a real friend to Mike Brindis.  If he has an emergency he calls Lar; if he needs a small loan the end of the month, he can call on Lar.  Fri. nite they go out to friend Jay & Nancy & Nancy's mom.  Sat. nite Kim is having the neighbors over.  Sun. nite we are invited over for a 6pm dinner.  Mon the "gals" to go Erie to visit a friend.  They sold their Warren home & got a condo in Erie.  The husband will be here until June.  Their home sold very quickly so they had to make a move.  Kathy had the aerobic classes with Kim & she was in Kim & Lar's wedding.  A tall dark gal.  Her husband works in the Business Dept. of Blair's.  A good job.  Three sons are all gone from home, 2 married.

New Year's Eve they are at Betsy Moran whose lst name always evades me (don't want to say forget again) for a party.  New Year's Day they just want to be home & not have to go anywhere.  Back to school on Thurs.

Whenever I have a roast Torey always knows where to go.  He keeps watch over it, hoping to get a taste.  Last nite he stayed here while they were at Betsy's.  He slept the whole time.

Time for a coffee break.  This aft. we'll go to the Mall & then to Quality where I have a 15.00 coupon (for spending more money) for meat goods until the 28th.  Probably won't get back to this letter.  Love you all.

Happy New Year!

I am going to try my hand at typing again so bear with the mistakes due to mostly to not being familiar with the typewriter.  Good excuse is better than none.

It looks like you will have a good weekend for skiing.  This is Fri a.m.  And you should have the car by now and I know you are enjoying it.

The other day Barb went over town to return the free lottery ticket and bot 2 more, one for me and one for her. We were not successful but the ticket she returned was another free one so we are still working on the one you got, Paul.

The weather has been nice so Dad and I have been walking and it is good to be back at it.

Barb is making herself a cardigan sweater and it is really nice so I asked her to make one for me and she will.   We have to get the yarn and I would like 2 shades of blue.  It has a different yoke and it makes the sweater.  It is wool yarn so it will be a nice sweater for early spring and late fall.

Perkins finally has Belgian waffles on the menu so we went for breakfast this week and they are delicious.

Where Kim has her studio there is a baby sitting service and there has been no rental charge - suppose to start in Jan. but the lady is giving up the service as she is pregnant.  Kim plans to find out if they can keep the service going without the rental charge as the rent of 100.00 a month doesn't leave much left for profit.

Anyway she asked Barb if she would be interested in the job if it can be worked out.  Barb said yes so we hope it will work out.  The sitting is necessary as Kim has mothers who depend upon the service as well as the weight lifting group.  It is from 8-12 a.m.  The lady would leave all the supplies there, games, puzzles, etc.

The birds haven't found the new feeder yet but they will.  It took quite awhile for them to find the old one.  I think it has been used a few times as we can see seeds scattered under it.  And they can really scatter the seeds.

Had a nice letter from Gen.  Aunt Esther is now in a nursing home at East Longmeadow.  Gen said she looks good and has (how else you say it) her mind back.  Is lucid, I guess you would say.  She had her hair done and was dressed up when they went to see her so she is content.

Edna and Wally will join the E. Longmeadow church.  It is hard for Edna to give up Bethesda but Wally refuses to go there because of the pastor so Edna gave in.

I'm enclosing the pictures we took.  Lar hasn't been over with the ones taken at his place.

We've had our fish dinner & now it will be baseball - Mets vs. Phila. & they should win the final game to clinch the playoffs - and writing letters.  (Still more games to play.)

Heard from Edna today.  Larry & Debbie were home but Edna missed seeing the new baby - Brian.  Larry is so happy to be a daddy!

This aft. I had Lauri's (hairdresser) 10 month girl Allison for about 1/2 hr. while she picked Danny up from pre-school.  She was good & didn't mind her mom leaving & naturally I enjoyed having a baby to hold & cuddle!!!

Dale started the work release program yesterday.  We saw him as we had to b ring contact cleaner, etc., his last paycheck.  It was good to see him - looks good.  Has a moustache now.  Hoped he could come home for lunch but he's not to leave his place of employment.  They pack him a lunch.  He was glad to be working again & we're happy for him.

Once in awhile I buy an instant lottery ticket.  I got 2.00, turned it in for 2 more.  Got a few free tickets & finally won $25.00.  A nice surprise.  When I turned it in, I got 5 more tickets for 20.00.  Out of the 5,  I got 1 free ticket but haven't redeemed it yet.  I don't spend too much money for tickets.

Next Mon. nite we're going to Ridway to have dinner with Warren & Anna.  We'll go down to DuBois to eat.  Did you know that Tom Mix (actor) grew up in DuBois & this week they are celebrating in his honor, memory or whatever.

Dad couldn't play golf today - rain.  But he was glad to see the rain as he fertilized the lawn the early part of the week.  This aft. Lar planned to put in a lawn at Pam Bonace Lyle's new home.  He said it is nice - soon ready for them to move in.  He'll start the landscaping & finish next spring.
Guess this is all the news.

P.S.  I got Searching for Caleb by Anne Tyler.  I've also been reading Nicola Thorne's books - historical romance & they are good.

PS2.  Sonya Thelin left Robt. Morris College for a library job in Claremont, Ca.  Vi Lilja said it has to do with the computer & she will travel a lot.  Has to come back to Ohio for training.  The job has some initials I don't remember.  I admire her going so far from home & relatives.  She was engaged but broke it off when she found him with a gal at his apt & it was obvious they were lovers.  Ruth & Russ are in Erie now & so is Steve - a lawyer & he has his own apt.
