I'm sitting on the front porch, drinking hot coffee & trying to cool off.  In the 90s today & forecast for all week.  Need a nice pool to jump into.  Kim bot a child's pool & cools off in it.  Lar teased her but she came home to find him sitting in it after soccer.  Lar was here for supper & Kim for coffee.  She doesn't eat til later as she has evening exercise classes.  She had her hair cut & it looks nice.  Cooler, too.

Her sister had a girl July 1.  All is well.  Kim is thru at the Y Aug 14th & hopes to leave the 15 to visit her sister. Lar will take a week off to go.  They'll go to Atlanta, pick up her grandmother & go to Fla.  Be gone for a week or so.

Had a nice note from Larry & Debbie as Gen & I bro't a toy when we visited.  Larry is really family oriented & Debbie said she hopes we keep in touch & hopes to see us in 2 yrs as Millie & Jerry will celebrate 50 years then.  Married in Aug. '39.  Hope they make it.

We also received a wedding invitation from David Carlson for Aug.  Naturally, we'll miss it.

One the way home we stopped at a Mall in Horsehead, N.Y.  It was a large one with nice stores for such a rural area.  Just beyond Corning going East.  Dad finds the bargains at Foxe's in the Enfield, Conn. Mall he got a 26.00 pair of summer slacks for a little over 11.00.  On the way home he got a nice knit shirt to go with them for 11.00.  Me - I found nothing!  We walked around the Mall & ate a late lunch in a nice restaurant.  It was fun to get out & exercise - we got home at 6 pm, left at 7 A.M.  We like to stop at McDonald's for a coffee break.  Fast service & good coffee.

In Oct. I want to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, about a 5 hour drive.  Stay overnite & stop at the Mall on the way home.

Dad played golf this A.M. & I got caught up on washing so we're back to a regular routine.

I'd like to get some library books but it's too hard to put on nylons & too hot to walk over there.  Barb walked over there but she can go bare legged.  That's the difference between youth & age!!!

Edna & Wally took us to the Christmas Inn for dinner.  It is decorated year round in a Christmas theme.  Ed & Gen took us to the Gold Mine in Easthampton & that was nice, too.  Had a cute waitress we joked with.

All in all we had a nice time but it is always good to get home & the regular routine.

Dale is taking the delay well.  Maybe it will be Aug. 16th I hope.

We watched Kramer vs. Kramer last nite & really enjoyed it.

Monday, July 13, 1987

We are at Gen & Ed's now & their pool is no nice.  Left last Wed. & spent Thurs. & Fri. with Edna & Wally.  They have room air conditioner so it was pleasant inside.  It was & continues to be HOT.  At Gen's we have more breezes so it isn't too bad, plus the pool.  They have flowers around the sidewalks by the pool.  It is so pretty.  We'll take pictures so you can see.  We've also helped with weeding.  Ed has been haying & that's a job.

Tues. nite Edna, Wally & Milly & Jerry will be here for supper.  Thurs. we are going to cousin Larry's home for lunch & we'll see Debby & the baby, 1 yr. old.  They bot a 200,000 home but homes are high here.  She'll have lunch for the 4 of us girls.  This was Millie's idea.  Fri. we go home.  Weather is suppose to break on Wed.  Hopes it's true.  (trip to Larry's about 1 1/2 hrs. near Boston.)

Today after lunch we went to Eastfield Mall & walked around.  Saw a cute skirt on sale but it would have been hard to match with a blouse.  On the way home we stopped at Marshall's & saw just the top for it, but it was too late.  I don't need it anyway.

Noticed the "For Sale" sign on Barb's house was down & haven't seen the car there.  Wondered if she took a trip to Boston to look things over.  The job want ads take a couple of pages.  Plenty of jobs for school kids, house wives & anyone who wants to work.

Kim finishes her job at the Y the end of July.  No hope for a teaching job yet so she plans to work at Watt Office Supply.  Will get medical coverage there.

Our Barb has babysat for Lauri twice now.  Gone for 6 hrs so she got $12.00.  She also got a call from the Employment office.  The Elec. Co. needs cleaners for about 6 weeks the middle of Aug. so she had to fill out an application form.  She hopes she gets it - 9.40 an hour & she has a good chance as she is a Vet. & a woman & they need a % of women.  It's a little late for college students so I hope she has a chance.

They told Dale he's be out this coming Sat. & then they told him he'd need some counseling & it might be a month longer.  And when he got his driver's license he could only drive to & from work.  Naturally he was disappointed.  Whatever it will soon be over.

We are enjoying ourselves.  Won't be long now for JoAnna.  Saw a pg. woman in church close to her time & felt for her in this terrible weather.  We look forward to our visit.  Time for a swim.

Oh yes after my blood test, the Dr. said my cholesterole (sp) was high & I should watch it & lose 10 lbs.  I'm trying!

Tuesday, June 9, 1987

Dad went to Jamestown to get shocks for the car at Sears.  Later we plan to go to Erie - we'll use our fine dining card.  It's a cool day - want to walk to the library but it looks cloudy.  Just finished Jan Webster's trilogy - theme Scotland.  Really enjoyed them.  Collier's Row, Saturday City, and Beggarman's County.

You'll never guess.  Larry lost his wedding ring last Fri. while working at Conaway's.  What a coincidence - he's following in your tracks, Paul.  Kim wondered who wore the ring the longest.

We got our pictures & they came out good.  Also saw the ones the photographer took & they came out excellent.  Also saw the V.C.R. film.  We'll be anxious to see yours.

They enjoyed their trip to Toronto but came back on Thurs.  Had seen all they wanted to.  Stayed Wed. nite at Niagara Falls.  This week Kim is house sitting.  She said yes a year ago before plans were made & Lar didn't  mind.

Kim's cousin Chris can't have an operation because the blood vessels are too delicate.  The Dr. said she could have another stroke at any time.  Isn't that sad.

Next Mon. strawberry picking for the public starts at Hatch Patch.  First they have them on sale & yesterday Dad bot a qt. on the way home from golfing.  They are so good.

I'm enclosing a newspaper clipping.  You might have had him for a teacher.

Mr. Carey asked when Dale will be home - he has some cars that need work & he wants Dale to do it.  It will be the middle of July for sure but I keep hoping it could be June.  At least it's almost over.

Went shopping at Bon Ton & got a pretty blouse & skirt on sale.  And I had said "I'll just look" - famous last words.

Guess I'll walk to the library.

Almost forgot.  Perkins reopened last Sat. & we went for breakfast.  It is beautiful - too bad it wasn't completed earlier, so you could see it.  Gutted & completely done over.  Green & beige this time.  Tasteful decorations & all.  Hard to describe.  As we were leaving, Mrs. P. came in & we talked.  She was glad to see both of you.

Thanks for the letter & newspaper article.  We were pleased to read the article & feel proud of both of you.   Your job sounds interesting, JoAnna, and I bet you have to do some digging to get the info.  Lar read your letter last nite.

You could write to Dale at Wrrn. Co. Jail, Market St. & I'm sure he'd get it.  Last week at the Courthouse they moved furniture from 1 office to another & Dale helped.  He saw Beth Beyer & talked with her & said he was doing O.K. & that the food is good.  Next Mon. the 18th he starts work release & that will help.

Glad you'll be at the lake longer than just the weekend.  We'll arrive later on Sat. as we won't leave Fri. til 12:30.  Been wondering about Barb.  Do you know anything as to what she is doing, etc.  We've wondered if you could contact her, see if she wants to come to the lake & wonder if you could give her a ride.  We'll take her back on the way to see you.

Thanks for the bumper sticker.  We'll make use of it.

I'm sure the Mets will win the Nat. League East but I'm not sure how they'll do against the Astros.  We sent Dick Howser a get well card & got a thank you (printed) the other day.  We were pleasantly surprised.

We plan to bring the article to the lake so we can show it to the relatives!

I'm on my way to get my hair done.
