Ray Danielson preached in our church today & last Sun.  Next Sun. he preaches at Frost Luth & the last Sun. at St. John's.  I asked Eleanor what is happening at 1st Luth as Ray preaches there a lot.  It's over a year since their pastor left.  Guess they're too fussy.  One pastor said he would come but his wife got a new job & refused to leave.  Guess her will was stronger than God's Will!  How times have changed.

Last Fri. aft. Barb was at Lynn's & Lynn & Marissa had a big fight & both said words they will regret.  Marissa called Lynn a big fat bitch & Lynn told her to get out.  She wasn't suppose to take the car but she left in the car.  Both Barb & I wonder if she went home.  Went to a friend who has her own apt.  And she is back with the boyfriend nobody likes.  I hope they work it out.  Next year Marissa wants to transfer to a college away from Warren.  I hope she can get out of Warren.  Barb wasn't to tell anyone but I'll keep my mouth shut & you are too far away to spread the gossip.

Barb & I watched Buffalo beat St. Louis this aft.  Buff. put the rookie QB in after the other QB got hurt & he did a great job.  He started out in the beginning but made mistakes.  It was a little hard on this ego to sit  but he realized he still had a lot to learn.  He is the AB of Buff. future.    He has been interviewed on 5 pm TV & looks like a nice guy.  I hope he does well.

I started another puzzle -- one of pumpkins in a field.  I need to keep my hands busy so I won't snack.  Then the scale moves up & I don't like that.

No school tomorrow for students.  Barb & I plan to go out for lunch, do some errands & get groceries.

Tues p.m.

The moon is beautiful tonite.  It has been a cloudy day but late aft. it cleared up so we can see a full moon.

I dropped a hook behind the stove & when Dale went to look for it, he saw a lot of dust.  He moved the stove out, found the hook & cleaned up the accumulation of dust, etc.

Back to Marissa -- she was home for dinner last Fri.  Nothing was said -- both acted as if nothing happened.  The Dr. will increase Scott's dosage of his medication.  He can't have chocolate after 5 pm.  It is at nite when he gets really hyper.

Last night House Hunter was in Montreal & it was interesting.  Wife was pregnant & had the baby before the house deal.  They spoke English but I think they were speaking French to the baby.  It will be bilingual.

I got the turkey yesterday & most of the rest of the menu.  It was a big order & lots to carry in & put away.

I made a meatloaf for supper last nite, using a new recipe.  It was good so I'd better not misplace the recipe.  Made scalloped potatoes & green beans.  My favorite meal among others.

Barb just got a call from a friend & she told her that Max Yosten was shot & killed by her boyfriend.  In N. Carolina.  Jeff got divorced & followed his ex-wife to St. Louis so he can see his 2 daughters; Karen's husband died suddenly & now Max.  Poor Pete & Sylvia.  They weren't' married but lived together.  You never think that will happen to someone you know.  I'm sure more will be in the newspaper.

The news about Max knocked me for a loop & any ideas to put down on paper have evaporated.

Thurs A.m. the 17th.  Half of the month is gone already.

Didn't know what to make for dessert so I made a favorite of mine.  Graham cracker pie.  Van. cream filling & meringue baked to a beautiful light golden.  Looks delicious & it is.  I scraped the pan I made the filling in.  Never too old to lick a pan!

Scott isn't suppose to have any foods with MSG & he is mad.  All his favorite foods contain MSG.

Lynn went online & got news about Max's death.  She called 911 herself.  "I've been shot, I'm dying."  Such sad words.  She died on the way to the hospital.  With the life she lived & she lived a full one, maybe it was her fate to die like this.  When they drank they fought.  Nothing has been in the paper -- funeral notice, etc.

Scott told Barb he doesn't know why he has to go to school.  His future will be with motorcycles & "I don't need school for that."  I remember Dave Blair's mom being concerned because of some of the crazy ideas Dave had for a future.  Guess all kids go through that stage.  I can't remember any ideas you kids had.  But I remember being shocked when Barb came home & said she had signed up to go in the Navy.  Later she said she did that because of something that Max did to her.

She recently had some slides she took in Italy made into snapshots.  She enjoyed her time in Italy so I don't think she ever regretted her rash plan.  We never even had a glimmer of what she was going to do.  I know her 1st year at Robert Morris was related to partying & not much learning.

Hamburg, N.Y. has had 10" of now & it will continue all day.  Snow is in the forecast for us but as of 11:15 AM, it is clear but cold.  It was 25 when I put the garbage on the curb.

Every Fri. Sheila asks me, "What's new with you?" & I always answer "Nothing special".  Which is fine with me.  I can keep busy & I can loaf, & do a little of each.  But I'm satisfied with my life & that's all that matters.  I'm just happy I had 4 wonderful children & they fill my life with joy.  Plus JoAnna, Kim, Andy & Ed.  You all fill my life with happiness.  And I love your letters.

With that I'll end this letter.

When the pkg. came, I just knew it was Andy's picture & couldn't wait to open it -- ahead of my birthday.  Saved the cards for the 15th.  It is such a nice picture of Andy.  Thank you so much.  How grown up he is & such a nice-looking guy.  In 2009, I'll see (I hope) Ed's graduation picture & how much he will change.

Last nite I stayed up til 11 pm & the game was 5-2, the Angels.  The first thing I did this A.M. was to check the scores.  Happily the Yankees lost.  Wonder who will be mgr. next year.  will Torre be in George's favor anymore.  Also noticed that the Steelers won over S.D. Dale stayed up til it was over & glad he did as the Steelers won in the last seconds.

You were happy that the Packers showed up & won big.  Not happy Wis. Badgers lost. Albert & (his wife's name won't come to mind) had to be happy Penn State finally have a winning team.  I couldn't watch as my eyes were glued to TV watching Houston beat the Braves.  What a game -- over 5 hours, 2 grand slams & a winning homer by a rookie giving Roger Clemens a save.  It was so exciting & of course the right team won!!!  Hi Andy!  18 innings -- both sides must have been exhausted.  Phil Garner said he wouldn't sleep that nite.  Too charged up.  I'm still rooting for St. Louis vs. Chicago, Chicago to win.

After I got myself ready for the day I started my rolls.  This is Dale's late day so I figured I might be able to bake them later in the day.  Wed. I should set dinner rolls & bake them Thurs a.m.  Then I started veg. beef soup.  They had the meat I like for swiss steak buy one, get 1 free.  Froze one & used the other for soup.  Bot Dale beef on sale so we'll have roast beef sandwiches & soup for supper.

Will try a new recipe Thurs nite.  Slit pork tenderloin down the center 3/4 of the way.  Stuff it with bread stuffing after pounding it thinner.  Tie it around & bake.  Will make applesauce, baked pot. and a veggie.  Pecan pie for dessert.  Sounds good to me.

Sun. A.M. I turned the furnace on to heat up the house a bit.  It warmed up some.  Mon & today the temps were that low.  Usually the furnace stays on by now.  Lucky when gas is so high.  This month I should find out how much highers my gas bill will be.

Yesterday I got a perm & afterwards we went grocery shopping.  When you own your own beauty shop you make concessions to your clients or they will go elsewhere.  Yesterday Sheila's first appt. was at 8:30 A.M. & she figured it would be 10 pm before she left for home. Many shops are closed on Mon. but her Mon. & Tues. are busy ones.  Wed. is her day off. Sat. they'll work just to noon (have a wedding party to do) & then will go to Buffalo for a Sat-Sun hair show.

Time for my A.M. coffee.

Now it's 7 pm & I'm watching TV.  Baked my rolls & they are in the freezer.  Barb said the soup was good & I agreed.

Yesterday when the weather was cool, Barb decided to pain the front & back door jambs. Think that is what you call them. The front door still had yellow paint in the jamb.  Dad must not have painted it when the new door was put in.  And the back door jamb had gotten dirty. She will put a 2nd coat on.  A big improvement.

Will watch some of the playoff game but when 10 pm comes, I'll be ready for bed.

Forgot one thing I wanted to tell you.  Last week Fri. at work 9911 was called for Randy Swanson.  He thought he was having a heart attack but after tests were taken they found he has sugar.  He'll have to change his lifestyle.  His wife cooks at the Cornerstone & works until 2 A.M.  Randy goes over to wait to drive her home as she doesn't drive.  He also has asthma & the smoky atmosphere isn't good for him. as well as the late hours.  And he has gotten fat -- big belly hangs over his belt.  Dale says he look 10 years older than you.  I'm glad you take care of your body.

Fri A.M.

Just had my hair done & now we'll go get my meds.  This aft. I see the Dr. at 1 pm, for a checkup.  I go three times a year.

More cloudy damp weather but little rain.  Am glad of that when I hear about all the flooding & continuous rain in the N.E.

Larry & Kim like Andy's picture.  What a heartthrob!!

Saturday, September 24, 2005

I thought it would be nice to go out to eat tonite, being it is Dale's last nite of vacation.  It didn't work out.  I gave Dale a choice of leftover Swiss steak from Wed nite or chicken & rice form Thurs nite.  Or spaghetti.  He chose the chicken-rice, I had the Sw steak & Barb fixed herself a Mexican meal.  So I still didn't have to fix a meal, just a salad.  We've been watching the President's Cup golf between U.S. players & international players.  Very interesting.  Tied at 11-11.  Partners against partners & if they win they get 1 point.  Fun to watch.

I guess library work can be interesting when some "nut" stats in on your library.  How could she pass a mental test?  How come she is in Wi. when she had problems in Cal.  Is she from Wi?

I'm watching the Mich-Wis game.  Go Wisconsin!

Will Andy be going to the homecoming dance this year.

You mentioned Elsa Redding's picture being in the paper a lot.  Remember Nelson & Mary Helen Johnson from church.  She is their daughter & she had a twin brother.  She is divorced from her husband -- they have a couple of children, grown children.

I've also been glued to the Weather Channel watching Rita hit Texas.

Can you believe that it will be Oct. by the end of next week.  Time to go to the bank again for monthly expenses.

Sept 27 - Tues.

Yesterday it rained most of the day.  1.8" & we got a little water in the basement.  We got groceries this A.M. & then went to the Mall for a few things.  I get my paper goods at the Dollar Store, then to look around Big Lots, to KMart & home.  It is Dale's late day so I fix a bigger lunch.  Usually pancakes, sausage & eggs.  His dessert is yogurt.  And a snack for later.

In the aft. I put some summer clothes in the attic & took winter or fall clothes down to my room.

On Discovery Health Channel, I just watched emergency ambulance & it was in New York City & it was very interesting.  No one stops for the siren.  Must be an interesting job.

Barb helps Scott with his homework.  They are working on the transitive & intransitive.  He has to find out which sentences are transitive or intransitive.  Barb tries to explain it to me & I'm glad I'm an old lady & don't have to go thru that.  Scott will put anything down just to get it finished.  Same in math so she checks his homework to make sure he knows what he is doing.  If he gets thru school it will be because of Barb working with him.  Bob & Lynn are too tired at nite to help him.   You need a lot of patience working with Scott.

We watch the Weather Channel a lot & get to know the announcers.  Jim Cantori is in when there are hurricanes, blizzards, etc.  He has always worn a wedding ring.  I was surprised when Dale mentioned "Jim C isn't wearing a wedding ring anymore."  I didn't think he'd notice anything like that.

Fri A.M. the 30th

Brr, it's cold this A.M.  39.  It is suppose to warm up so I didn't turn the heat on.  So far the gas bill hasn't gone up.

Kim gets a little disgusted with Betsy Moran.  She complains a lot.  Said she'll have to keep the heat at 58.  Her husband works at United & he plans to retire in a year.  His car & gas are provided by United so Kim said wait til you husband is retired.  No more free car & gas & with gas as high as it is, that will be a shocker.  Betsy has an inherited income which must be good, as that is what bro. Jim lives on plus no children, a husband with a good job, etc. etc.  One of the teachers they walk with lives from paycheck to paycheck, paying for a house.  Some people are never happy.  Betsy hates the house they live in -- it was his parents' home.  But they remodeled & Kim says it is a lovely home.

We're going to the bank, CVS, etc. after I get my hair done.  Until next time.

P.S.  Will comment on the Rockford epistle next letter.  It is wonderful.  Will you share it with cousins?  Bet they like to read it.

Sunday January 2, 2005

Guess what our "divided" household is doing?  Watching the Steelers & the Bills & Dale & my team is ahead so far.  Barb keeps saying the Steelers don't have to win but they play to win.  Dale & I are happy.

Yesterday was beautiful weatherwise & the noisy motorcycles were out.  Dale washed his cars & took his white "summer" car to Jamestown.  He got a DVD for himself.

Wed. Barb & I went to Jamestown.  Didn't buy much.  We had lunch at Ruby Tuesday & I enjoyed my lunch of tender pot roast, mashed pots. & broccoli.  It was delicious.

Thurs. nite we went to Lar & Kim's & had a nice evening.  She served baked ziti & it was delicious.  We all like pasta.  Kim made a pecan pie & i made an apple pie.

Yesterday I started the New Year by making dinner rolls & a coffee cake.  After lunch I* took a short nap & then took the decorations off the tree -- the tree & all the decorations are put away for another year.  I like things back to normal.  Kim keeps the tree up longer as well as the decorations.

I mentioned that Elsie Yaegle will be 90 this month & they are planning a party for the 8th at church.   Today Betty told me Elsie had a slight stroke over the holidays.

Barb sent Millie & Gen a picture of the 3 of us.  So Millie sent pictures of her apt. & of herself.  Her place looks very nice.  I can see why she is happy there.

I'm working on the puzzle & it is a fun one to do.

Later -- I just clogged up the kitchen sink & made a job for Dale.  It could be a blessing in disguise as when Dale opened up the pipe, he found a plastic picnic knife there.  How it get there is beyond me -- guess I wasn't watching closely enough. He didn't get disgusted with me.

The Steelers beat Buffalo & I can't believe how "down in the dumps" Barb is.  She was so sure Buff. would win.  To make it worse, Dale & I are happy.

My puzzle is almost finished.  I'll try to finish it now.

Jan 4, Tues.

Thanks for the pictures -- they are good.  Noticed the watch strap on your arm.  Barb is so happy the boys like their pictures.  She showed them to Lynn & Marisa saw them & tho't they were cool.

Enjoyed reading the article on Green Bay, the team, etc.  Read parts of it to Dale.  The $500.00 to start the games sure paid off.

Yesterday Dale jammed his finger & it is sore.  The nail is black & he has to be very careful at work.  If he hits it, it pains.  Tonite he said it is better.  A couple of fingers just healed up & now another one.

Jan 5. Wed.

I got the kitchen floor washed & garbage ready for Thurs.  I'll ad a few more words.  We have some snow -- it isn't snowing  now (10:30 A.M.) but more is expected this aft.  Storm warning thru Thurs A.M.

Barb shortened 2 pr. of jeans for Dale.  He told her I'm giving you a tip.  She tho't he meant he was going to give her some advice but he gave her 10.00 for doing the job.  That was nice of him.

I haven't been upstairs since I got dressed & Barb never gets up til 9 A.M.  She still isn't up so she must not be feeling well.

I finished my puzzle & have started another one.

Last Fri. Barb & I went to lunch.  We wanted to go to the coffee place for soup & dessert but it was closed til 3 pm.  So we went to Holiday Inn.  And Ted & Pat Benson, Ted's sister & their oldest daughter (lives in Portland, Ore) were there for lunch.  We talked a few minutes & I went to our table.  We had a nice lunch.  We stopped at BiLo for some last minute groceries & what a mad house.  Both in the store & in the parking lot.  Was glad to get out of there safely.

Thurs A.M. the 6th 7:45 A.M.

No school today -- snow & icy roads.  Was awakened at 5 A.M. from the noise of plowing snow.

I got a kick out of your story of having to go to the downstairs bathroom at Cindy's.  You'll have to limit your liquids after 6 pm  Ha! Ha!

Your thanksgiving turkey looks lushious, or would delicious be a better word.  It looked good, and so did your table.

Sunday, December 12, 2004

We watched the Bills beat the Browns & now Pittsburgh is playing the Jets & the Steelers couldn't get a TD but got a field goal.  Steelers won!!!

I asked Dale what kind of cookies he liked outside of tea cakes.  He said those date ones meaning the date-filled cookies.  Haven't made them for years & he really surprised me. They are a favorite of mine.  Before the Steeler game I found the recipe & made the dough & it is chilling in the fridge.  My dates are too old but we'll get groceries tomorrow.  I'm going to try making Biscotti.  The coffee shop in Warren has them & they as good to dunk.

We needed bananas so we stopped at Quality on our way home from the Mall.  Dale likes cacti plants & we saw a pretty arrangement of 3 cacti with stones, pebbles & wood.  We got it as a gift for him. Barb brought it over to Lar to keep it til Christmas Eve.  We didn't know where to hide it uncovered & we didn't want to keep it loosened in a plastic bag.

Barb went up to Lawn & Garden to look around & she found the cutest Santa on sale.  It is a policeman Santa holding a little boy on one arm & a flag in the other hand.  It plays "God Bless America".  I claimed it & paid her for it.  The boys is saluting the flag.  He (Santa) has a fat tummy, blue suit with a whistle around his neck & a club on his belt.

I got my "away" cards mailed.  Had a letter card from Carole & Arland & see they have a new address & I had their old address on the card.  I used a label and covered it.

Noticed UB's baseball won over Niagara "in a thriller" to quote the Buff. paper.  Another article says "UB athletic dept. has something special brewing".   They have a new athletic director & I guess they have hopes of better teams & more winners.

Barb said the announcers on the  Buff. game said the Steelers would have a hard time winning then the Steelers play in Buff.  I said that's crazy & she didn't like it being a Buff. fan. So that should be an interesting game for this Nelson family.  2 against 1.

Mon. the 13th

I'm watching CNN news & they were telling about 2 men robbing a house when they heard a video "Stop, we've got the house surrounded."  They ran out of the house & didn't take anything.  Guess the videos are good for something.

Our toaster oven won't toast anymore.  We got another one & without reading the direction, Barb said it gets too hot.  She had the oven part on.  I'm not sure how it will heat rolls up.  It is a Black & Decker so it should be OK.  To toast you don't heat the oven.

We're getting our first snow but not as much as in Chautauqua County.  Erie had had an accumulation.  We don't' have much but more is expected thru the nite into Tues.  There was a late start to school (10 A.M.) because of slippery conditions in the outer parts of Warren County.  Frozen slush, etc.

I've noticed the adds on TV like the videos you are now getting.  Will you, rather are you watching them.

Tues. the 14th

I looked at the calendar & realized Christmas is next week & tho't I'd better get busy.  And so I did this A.M.  This is Dale's early week so I was up at 5 AM.  After getting things ready for breakfast, I formed my rolls & baked them.  Then I made molasses cookies -- I put them thru the cooky press & they came out very thin & have ridges -- I love them that way.  Then I made the Russian tea cakes; next came the rolled out cookies.  I put a date mixture on one cooky & covered it with another circle & baked them.  I'm not good at making rolled out cookies & their looks aren't hat great but they taste good.   I washed pans, etc. several times, rested a bit with a cup of coffee & then got lunch for Dale & myself.  After lunch I started a veg. beef soup & made a pumpkin pie.  Soup & pie for supper.  Finally at 2 pm I sat down & I'm watching my soaps.  It feels good to take it easy.  Oh yes I changed my sheets & did a load of wash.  Pretty good for an old lady, don't you think.  I'm just thankful I can do it.  I still plan to make one or two more recipes of cookies.  Barb likes to give a plate of cookies to Bob & Lynn.

Your pkg. arrived late aft.  Barb & I opened it i& she put your gifts under the tree.

Wed. the 15th

Dale said the bank at the Mall was robbed this aft.

Erie has had a rash of robberies -- pizza places, fast food & Radio Shack.  Tonite the Erie news at 6 pm told they arrested a young fellow.  I missed the first part that told how they caught him, but it probably will be in the Wrrn. paper tomorrow.  They know he committed 2 of them & think he did them all.  He carried a gun & used it at times.  When someone tried to take it away he shot it to let them know he'd use it.  He didn't look at all sorry but when he's in jail for a few years, he'll change his tune.

Made 2 batches of cookies today & plan to make 2 or 3 more batches.  Made Spritz & a sugar cooky today.  Want to make the peanut butter cooky you put a Hershey kiss on after it's baked awhile.  And a peanut butter bar cooky & my favorite a coconut macaroon.  Who wasn't going to make many cookies.  Maybe I'll bring some over to Viola Seaquist.  I did last year so I will this year.  And Barb will fix a plate for Lynn. Yesterday Scott got one of my rolls & today he got 2 Spritz & 2 sugar cookies.  He likes them.

Fri. the 17th

Did you get a Christmas card from Gerald & Darla.  It is a picture of the white painted out hosue & it has a small flower box with red flowers.  There was a note & Darla said "write".  I did write & never got a reply to my last letter so gave up.  It's nice to get an answer.

We got an inch of snow overnite but we don't have very much but it is nice to have for Christmas.

I know you'll have a great Christmas.

P.S.  Which pkg. did the boys "peek" into!!!

Saturday, January 10, 2004

Fri. after I had my hair done, Barb & I went to the library.  She get videos & I get books. Started reading "Whispers at Midnight" by Karen Robards Fri. aft. & finished it this A.M.  It was so good.  She writes so you can form a picture in your ind & some situations were so funny.  I had to laugh out loud.  Also got "Yesterday" by Fern Michaels, & found an author new to me.  Pat Booth's "American Icon".

Then we went to the Mall.  Barb had a check to cash.  Dale gave her money for Christmas & she found an expansive sweater marked down .  It is a deep rose & looks good on her.  I just got some necessary items for the medicine cabinet.

Barb wants to go to Jamestown Mon. as it is suppose to warm up Sat & Sun before it turns cold again.

Did some baking this A.M. -- apple bread & pumpkin pie, a favorite we don't tire of.  After lunch I took a nap -- tonite I want to watch the first half of the New England-Tennessee game & it will be a freezing night.  The first game comes on at 4:30 p.m. in about 20 min.  Been watching the East-West Shrine game at San Fran.  East is getting whipped.

Bert is still in NYC.  Doctoring.  She won't be home until the end of the month.  Barb isn't working that much.  Bert said she'll make up the hours when she gets home as she'll  need Barb more then.

Scott has a girlfriend in 6th grade & he really "loves" her.  She is cooler to him.  Lynn didn't let him join the ski club -- they go to Peak n Peek & most of his friends did.  Now she regrets it.  They were suppose to ski yesterday but it would have been very cold. We don't know it they postponed it.

Tues.  Warren Hi had a bomb scare & they have to evacuate the school, so they are taken by school bus to Beaty.  It disrupts both schools.

Officials are very upset as well as teachers & even students.  They had an assembly at Warren telling what could happen if caught.  In this A.M. paper Judge Millen had an article telling what could happen -- they'd be treated as an adult & it wouldn't be easy on the persons.  Why are kids so stupid.

Later

Carolina won & I was rooting for them.  Now it's time for the 2nd half on NEVS Titans & N.E. leads & I'm rooting for them.  I'm ready for bed -- sitting my in my chair with an afghan covering me.  Keeps me cozy warm.  And my elec. blanket is on so my bed will be warm when I get to bed. Will stay up til 11pm.

Mon the 12th

This A.M. Barb & I went to Jamestown.  It was a messy drive but the weather was warmer . Went to JoAnne's Fabric to look at yarn.  Barb needed more for her afghan.  She is also planning to make one for Marisa for graduation.  Bon Ton was closed for inventory.  Both of us bot a top.  Barb's is for wear now.  Mine is for spring & summer, tow ear with slacks.  We stopped at Walmarts so Barb could look for yarn & I must looked around.  Got a puzzle & a few other things.  We ate lunch at Davidson's.  Barb had the fish fry & I had the broiled fish & their fish is so delicious.  Barb went to Wegman's for groceries & I went into KMart.  Home about 1 pm.  After my soaps  leaned the bathroom & finishedthe washing.  Got 1 load done before we left, had one in the washer & did the 3rd load after I cleaned the bathroom.

This is Dale's early week - 7:30 - 4:00 pm.  He didn't get home 'til 7 pm.  Why? - he rotated the tired, changed the oil, etc.  Then he cleaned up his area -- couldn't stand the mess any longer.  Since we had our meal at noon, Dale had to have a frozen dinner.  He'll have a chicken pot pie & salad.  HJ e usually has ice cream before bedtime.

Bet you were unhappy Gr. Bay lost.  We were rooting for them.  I'd like Indy to go all the way. They are fun to watch.

Wed A.M. the 14th

It is cold!  Just put 2 bags of garbage out for Thurs. pick up.  Glad I don't have to go out. Barb gives some of Scot's friends a ride home from school & for sure she'll have to today. One aft. she didn't take 2 girls (boy's sisters) because she didn't want them to mess up the floor as they had to sit in the 3rd seats.  I said she should have taken them no matter what. So she put plastic mats back there & will take all of them..  I bundled up & it was still cold the few minutes I was out.

We finished the puzzle with 1 piece missing.  We looked on the rug but couldn't find it.

I've had my coffee so I'd better do something besides watch TV.  Started another puzzle.

The author Pat Booth, new to me, isn't one I'll read.  I started the book & I just couldn't get interested so I gave up on it.  I have enough authors whose books are so enjoyable to read.

Fri A.M.  Ready to get my hair done.  It is COLD & there is a 2 hr. school delay.  We also plan to go to the Mall as Barb has a check to cash.

Scott got to join the ski club -- it's expensive.  For bus, etc. thru the ski period it cost over $200.00.  And Lynn got Scott a cell phone in case anything should happen.  She's a worrier.

Last nite I turned the thermostat to 72 & it was warmer.  It is 68 during the day & 80 starting at 3 pm.  If I feel cold l'll add a sweater.

We got some good early strawberries & they are tasty so I made an angel food cake & added strawberries for dessert & they liked it.

Hope you can read my letters.  Usually I sit in my chair writing letters & it's not as good as a table.

Sunday, January 4, 2004

We're watching Green Bay & Seattle & at the moment they are tied.

New Years Day was so mild & I walked to the 5th Ave. mailbox & 2 fellows were playing tennis, & guys were at Beaty field playing football.  Dale even raked the lawn to get rid of fallen twigs.  How often does that happen on Jan 1.

But this week winter returns according to weather news.

Sat. was Dale's free Sat.  He took the bare tree down.  Fri. I had taken decorations off the tree & got things ready to go to the attic.  As usual, I had forgotten some things & it meant several trips to the attic.  Also dusted & it is nice to have order restored again.

Barb borrowed videos from the library.  She wanted me to see "Firefly" with Jeanette McDonald.  We played Scrabble & watched it.  But I couldn't concentrate on 2 things but I enjoyed the music.  Barb beat me 3 times but just by a couple of points so I'm improving  Often times I don't see plays that would give me more points.

Seeing the card table was up, I used it to start a puzzle.  1000 pieces.  Haven't done one for awhile.

Dale worked all day in the attic & is getting rid of a lot of junk.  Got rid of all the boxes we saved for sending gifts.  But more will accumulate during the year.  We're all talking about thinning out our closets.  After so many years clothes get stale, if that's the correct word, & they don't feel right.

G. B. just got a TD -- can they hold off S. for about 2:44 minutes.  Hope so -- we're rooting for your team.

It was nice that Lar & Kim could talk with you last Thurs.  Barb enjoyed it as well.  If Dale is around when you call he will talk.

Tues the 6th

Barb & I have been working on the puzzle -- it's a harder one.

Lar & Kim heard from the Carey's at Christmas.  They didn't build in Fla, kept their condo there & bot one in Buffalo for summers.  That doesn't make Paul's husband very happy. Susan bot a house in Buff. a couple of blocks from John & Paula's.  Now the parents.

It is cold tonite so winter has arrived.  The moon is out tonite & it is so pretty to see.

Made swiss steak for supper & it was good.  This is Dale's late or long day so he's eating now.  9pm. Think I'll make veg. soup tomorrow & a pie.  Soup sounds good for a cold day & preferably homemade.

Lucky JoAnna to be able to attend the exciting game & see the finish making Gr. Bay the victor.  We were happy for you folks.  And thanks for the pictures -- of the boys & the family room.  The boys look good & so does the family room.

Dad & I stopped at Schreiner's a few times & enjoyed it.  The Nelson's always stopped there on their way to the lake.

Thurs the 8th

When I was in the basement I heard dripping but none of the faucets dripped.  Barb found something under the sink was the culprit.  Dale is fixing it.  Another proof I'd never live alone in this house.  Joyce O'Connor has lived alone for -- I think she said it was 20 yrs. since Dugey died.

Lar & Kim were over tonite & we had a nice visit.  Lar got a printer for his digital camera & said it works well.  I told Dale he should get one for his camera.

It is nice to have things back to normal after the holidays.  My bedroom is in good order again & that makes me feel good.  I can only stand disorder so long & then I have to get busy & fix it up.

I even started working on a menu for the month.  Just hope I keep it up.

Dale cleaned out the area under the sink & is now putting things back & wondered if some stuff could be thrown away -- I said yes.

Soon bedtime so good nite to all.

Saturday, December 27, 2003

It's a beautiful Sat. aft. with sun shining in on the kitchen table.

This A.M. Barb & I went to the library &^ I got 2 books.  Blind Side by Catherine Coulter & The Forgotten by Faye Kellerman.  Read a few pages from each & think I'll read Blind Side, an FBI thriller first.  Then we went to the Mall& looked around.  Barb got 2 calendars at half price & I got a couple of necessities.

When I got the mail was pleased to see a letter.  I thought you might be too busy to write. An added pleasure.

Mon. we plan to go to Jamestown.  Barb needs some foods from Wegmans she can't find in Warren.  Maybe they will still have some bargains at the Mall.

Watched Pitt get beat by UVA.  Just turned to see Buff. getting beat by New England.  Buff. front line has injuries & they can't protect the QB.  It hasn't been a pretty season for Buff. fans but each home game has been a sellout.

The only thin I've done today is make a coffee cake.  Nice to be lazy.  I should do some ironing but it will still be there next week.

Called Gen last nite as I  haven't heard from her.  She lost my telephone number again.  She did mention Millie had water in her basement & she had Christmas Eve & they always use the basement.  It was something Ed had told Millie years ago to keep an eye on.  Today her grandsons are going to fix it for her.

Ray Forstrum (Youngsville) preached today as our pastor had the flue.  He was called at 7 A.M., so he didn't have much time to get ready.

Betty Casey had a slight stroke & should get out of the hosp. today.  Alice Nasman was back in church today but I didn't get a chance to talk to her.  She had been in the hosp. Janelle Welsh (don't recall her married name) was in church today -- home for a week.  Her daughter died recently.  Janelle asked about Barb.  She is in Calif. since her marriage.

Kim just called to see if we remembered we're invited for dinner at 6.  I won't forget that I don't have to fix a meal today.

I'm watching football.  Dallas vs. New Orleans.  I'm sure you were rooting for Seattle to lose last nite but they turned the tables & won.

Tues. Dec. 30

We had a nice time at Lar & Kim's.  The meal was delicious.  Tender meat, large stuffed potato halves.  I'd like to do that during the holidays to make it easier for me.  Maybe I will next Christmas.

Yesterday we went to Jamestown.  I got some Christmas decorations 1/2 price & that's about all.

We ate lunch at a new Italian place == Barb had lasagna & salad & I had 1/2 meatball sub. Very good but too much food.  I ate my meatballs & part of the rolls -- too much to eat but very tasty.

This aft. we're going grocery shopping.  Also to the bank to cash a check for Jan. expenses; to CVS for medication & to the Mall.  Kim gave me a top & it is too big so I'll exchange it.

New Year's Eve

Didn't know what to make for supper so it turned out to be homemade chicken soup & pumpkin pie.  Both are good.  I had warm pumpkin pie & coffee at 4 pm & soup at 5 pm.  It's a help yourself meal.

I always tho't Lar & Kim were busy New Years Day & when I mentioned it, Kim said no.  So they will be here for dinner.  In Pa. pork & sauerkraut are popular for New Years & we'll have pork loin.  Kim isn't fond of sauerkraut but I have a small can & might have it for any who like it.  I learned to like it while working at Beaty.

Kim & Lar are going to a party at Betsy Singer.  Finally remembered her last name. You might see her picture with 2 others in our paper concerning hospital doings.  She has a part time job at the hospital.

We'll take the tree down sometime on Fri.  I'm ready to have the house back in normal order.

Dale worked 1/2 day today but it was 3:30-4 pm before he got home.  A fellow who used to work at Shults but now has his own shop had gotten a run down van.  Had it towed to Shults & asked Dale to check it.  It didn't run. Dale got it to run & he earned $50.00.  He's not as free in sharing his time & talent after working 8 hrs a day on cars.

Didn't see U of Wis. lose today but did watch part of Ore. vs. Minn.  The ending was exciting when Mn. won in the last seconds.

I doubt if I'll be awake to see the New Year in.  Early to bed, earlyi to rise is for me.

Jan 1.  Happy New Year

I'm watching the Honeymooners & it's a crazy episode.  I laugh so hard I get tears.  They are on a train & handcuffed & try to sleep in a sleeping car.  Suppose to be going to Minneapolis but end up in Va.   One of the funniest ever.

The sun is shining but cold.  I think I'll end this & walk to the 5th Ave. mailbox & get a little fresh air.

It's a lazy day, not rushed like Christmas, so I'm enjoying it.

So far Iowa is running over Fla.  Barb says we have to root for Iowa.

Sunday, January 6, 2003

Dale is at Sam B. watching the Steelers & they can't be too happy.  Cleveland is ahead & they are in the 4th quarter.  But hopes are high!

Freda Woodall, Bertha Nelson & Bernie Bloom died Wed, Sat. & this a.m.  Freda was 97, Bertha early 90s -- both ailing a long time.   Don't know Bernie's age.

We received another blow this A.M. in church.  John Check resigned as choir director & council member.  No reason.  He's been the glue holding things together.  Hope it's not illness or someone thinking he's taking too much upon himself.  Wonder what happens next.

Thanks, Andy, so much for the casserole holder you made.  I love it & needed another one to hold a hot casserole from the oven.  Your work is excellent.  I'm real proud to heave it.

I called Millie last nite.  She mentioned getting your letter & enjoyed hearing.  They have a lot of snow & she was plowed in.  Couldn't get out to get groceries. She finally got it cleared.  IT had frozen solid so you couldn't shovel it out.  When Linda was home during Christmas they went to see Gen.  She took them upstairs & when Ed built the addition it added 2 closets to their bedroom & Millie said she was surprised at the mess.  Gen never throws anything away.  The church has a fall bazaar & Millie was trying to get Gen to part with things but she won't.

Both Gen & John were sick over New Year's with the flu & it lasted 3 days.  The holidays weren't so nice for them.

And Gen's old Dr. died so Thurs the 9th she will see a new Dr.  I hope he can help a bit.  She has no interest in anything & if Millie questions her she says John takes care of things.

Mon. 4:30 pm.  I'm tired after a busy day of putting things away.  Just a few more things to go in the attic from Christmas.  Things are looking more normal now.  I hate too much clutter.

Started supper after lunch & I'm glad I did.  We're having beef & pork cubes over rice.  Sort of a chop suey.

Dale didn't get home for lunch til 1 pm.  He had to finish a job.  I wondered what happened as he usually calls if he's not coming.

I mentioned about the Santas we got at KMart on a Mon.  On Tues. Barb went back alone to get another Santa & on Tues. they have a senior citizen discount.  The cashier asked Barb is she was a senior citizen. That didn't go over too big.

What are your plans for spring break or will you be too busy to get away.

Were Albert & Cyndi home for Christmas?

Watching the Steelers win yesterday was too exciting.  I was sure they would be losers & then it happened -- keeping us on the edge of our chairs.  They won.  I'm sure you were unhappy when the Packers lost.  We watched the game.  And San Fran won in the closing minutes.  I was rooting for the N.Y. Giants.  Only 1 winner per game.  Too bad.

Last Sat. I made Danish & used my new pans & inserts & it worked so well.  Easy to clean & I needed only 2 pans for 1 batch & they wren't crowded.  I will really appreciate them.

Dale gave Barb a cookbook -- Cooking for Your Health -- for Christmas.  More of his bargains.  Kim tho't it looked interesting so last Sat. Dale got another one.  He's starting his shopping for Christmas early.

I lost my house key.  Noticed last Fri. they weren't in my purse.  I've looked everywhere -- also the car key & I don't know where else to look.  Will have to get on made.  Last Fri. Barb left the house opened as I'm back soon after she leaves.  Haven't checked the car yet.  Maybe they got dropped & I didn't realize it.  [Got one made.]

Wed A.M.

Have you recovered from the big night.  Bet it was a fun time.

Yesterday I got 2 pillows at KMart so I could sit up & see the TV better in bed.  I'm looking forward to watching baseball in bed.  What is it -- 7 or 8 weeks & spring training begins.

Mon & Tues were busy days so this will be an easy day.  Get garbage ready & easy things.  Decide on a dessert for tomorrow & a different way to fix chicken.

Thurs. A.M.  I found my keys.  Decided to look in my slack pockets & found them.  Have an extra house key if this happens again.  Don't usually put them there.

Tuesday, December 31, 2002

I'm watching Washington beat Purdue 17-0 after the first quarter.

Last Thursday Barb & I went to the Mall & I got a red jacket type top & a navy cardigan on sale.  And a box of Christmas cards that were 21.00 for 7.00 including tax.  Some good deals.   Not much paper wrap left but plenty of decorations.  We went to the Mall again yesterday & got some pretty gold & silver balls for the tree & Barb got 2 Santas & I got one at KMart.  They are attractive ones.  All half price.

Our snow is melting fast due to warming & some drizzle.

Dale's back has been bothering him, so he decided to go to the chiropractor & got an aft. appt. today at 2:30 p.m.  He worked til 11 A.M. when they closed early for the holiday.

Our TV is changing channels.  Fox News has been channel 51, now is 75.  So we'll have to learn the new channels.  My TV isn't set up yet.  Dale hasn't cared to do it since he has a sore back.

Barb & I went out to lunch at Holiday Inn a week ago Fri. the 27th & it was a failure for Barb & she likes to go there.  She had the Caesar salad.  Not much lettuce & too much dressing.  She tried dessert, carrot cake & she didn't like that.  I had the special -- fish sandwich & fries.  Unusually good fries -- hot & crunchy.  Good fish.  It included pumpkin pie -- but I like mine better.   We talked about going to Chido's for supper but Dale wasn't interested so we chose lunch.

Lar & Kim gave Dale a bathrobe for Christmas & he's wearing it when he gets a shower.  A nice surprise I never thought he'd wear one.

Dale just came back & said his back feels better.  And he'll have a day to rest it.  Now he's on the way to the Mall.

Thurs. Jan 2

Got your letter today & thanks for the pictures.  The one of Dad is so good -- thanks again.  The boys are changing so much.  Now they are young  men.

Lynn gave Barb a machine to make "Smoothies".  It works fine & stronger (motor) than a regular blender.

We had a quiet New Year's Day.  We had steaks for our meal.  Tonite Lar & Kim come & we'll have stuffed pork chops & apple pie.  It's suppose to be lucky to have pork on New Year's Day.

Dale connected my TV yesterday so the next time you visit you'll go to sleep with TV.  We have 6 TVs in the house & Dale has 1 in the garage.  Recently he put on in the basement so he can have TV when he works down there.

I know why people don't like change.  It means they have to learn something new & that takes effort & time.  I still can't remember all of the new channels.

Barb made me a gray cardigan & it is very nice.  She is knitting herself another sweater & when that is completed she'll put her yarn aside for awhile.

Later

The dishes are done & all is cleaned up.  Instead of having a cup of coffee -- just finished a cup of cocoa & now I'm set to watch "Designing for the Sexes".

Lar wondered if I'd watched TV in bed last nite.  I had but plan to watch "House Hunters" at 10 pm in bed.

We're getting snow tonite & it doesn't sound too good for tomorrow.  After I get my hair done I have to go to the bank for Jan. expenses, need to get a sympathy card & need to go to CVS for 2 prescriptions.

Plan to take the ornaments off the Christmas tree tomorrow.  Just a start & will finish on Sat.  It will be good to have things normal again.  Next year we will have a prelit tree.

Did I mention that Lynn & family sent me a Christmas real pine arrangement with gold ribbon & trim in the form of a small tree?  And Carol Andersen sent me a poinsettia plant.  This time I put it by the fireplace & when I have the lamp lit, it gives light to the plant.  I never have good luck with real indoor plants but this time it is doing very well in this location.

It is soon bedtime so this is all for this time.

Sunday, December 15, 2002

Last Fri. we went to Jamestown.  I needed more cards & found some I like.  I mailed cards last Fri. so that is accomplished & all my gifts are wrapped & under the tree.  Just a few cookies to make & rolls for Dale for the lunch the "guys" at work have the last day before Christmas.  Last nite he enjoyed the Prime Rib dinner given by Shults at Jackson Valley.  Next Wed. nite is another dinner because they are a "5 star" organization.  Dale looked so nice last nite.  He wore tan pants with a rust-brownish shirt.  The shirt needed pressing & he did it himself.  Barb was surprised.  Dale has a pair of black pants he thinks are an inch too long.  He wants me to show him how to use the sewing machine so he can shorten them.  He said all he'd have to do is take the hem out, press them, cut off an inch & sew.  Sounds easy -- we'll see how he does.  (I did it on a pr. of tan pants.)

We didn't go to Jamestown just for cards -- Barb did some shopping; we ate lunch at the Red Lobster, & then to Wegman's for groceries we like to get there.

The opening paragraph of your last letter, Paul, sounded like the beginning of a story or book!  You might not remember what your wrote, it was nice.

I'm watching the G.B. vs. S.F. game & it is exciting.  I just hope G.B. can hold on as they are ahead as of now.

I'm having more fun with my "electronic" toy.  One of the best buys I've made.  Barb won 2 games in a row as I've been working toward that & I finally won 2 games in a row this aft.  Not much to keep me amused!

Your team won.  I'm happy so I'm sure you are all doubly happy or even more.  Pittsburgh & Buffalo both won so we're one happy family.

Mon A.M., 16th

We awoke to some snow this A.M. & it will go down to 5 overnite.  Had 2 loads of wash - Dale has flannel sheets so they get washed & back on the bed.  I have another set but where I stored them is a deep secret & I don't have the answer.  Last year I couldn't find the holders for the Christmas stockings.  Still haven't found them.  They are somewhere in the attic.  Barb cleans up there & then I can never find anything.

Sat. aft.  Larry walked Torey over here & then he checked on Carey's house.  Torey stepped in a mud puddle & it got on the back stairs carpet leaving a spot.  After they left Dale got busy & removed the spot before it set!  When you're older spots don't bother as much so it is nice to have someone else to do the work.  Even tho it sounds like I'm getting lazy, I'm still a good homemaker!

Can't remember if I wrote this -- Carey's are in Buffalo baby sitting the dog while Paula & John get a 18 mo. boy in Russia.  In the latest Family Circle there is an interesting article about a couple who had problems conceiving; a mother changing her mind & keeping the baby; they heard about babies in Russia.  They got a 18 mo. boy name Boris.  The hosp. records scared them (they got them when ready to go home) but he is fine, learning English & no problems.  They call him "Bo" not changing his name.  Paula plans to give hers a new name.  Careys won't be there on Christmas Eve when they get home.  The agency suggests no one be there at first.  Careys plan to go to Lisa's place for the holiday.  Soon after, back to Fla.

I see the Mets traded Edgardo Alfonzo to San Fran. & Rey Ordonez to Tampa Bay.  It doesn't say, as of today's paper, who they got from San Fran.  2 players to be named from Tampa Bay.

When I went to move the sewing machine, I noticed a gift had been hidden from my view.  A gift for Eddie so I got it ready to mail & will send it tomorrow when we get groceries.  We're going early again.  So one more small box to look for.

After Christmas you'll have to take Eddie on a shopping trip.  He's getting money, mainly due to no suggestions & I didn't want to send gifts he might not choose himself.  Hope he will understand & have a fun shopping time.

Wed.

Just finished making & baking 3 batches of cookies.  The kitchen is cleaned; garbage ready for collection on Thurs. & I'm "done in".  Sitting in my chair & catching my breath.  Dale is out tonite & I'm hungry for mac & cheese & that is easy to make.  From scratch!

Barb has met her match in Bert.  If Barb has a different viewpoint than yours she'll let you know in no uncertain terms she knows best.  If I bring up something she doesn't agree on I just let her go on & clam up.  Not with Bert.  Bert lets her know that she doesn't like it.  Barb is beginning to get it, that it doesn't work with Bert.  Both think they are right & both don't want to give in.

I heard the mail man come & I had an envelope (gift of 10.00) for him so I got up fast to catch him & now I can't see the pen I was writing with.

Just read Dick & Irene (Nyquist) card & to quote Dick "I am presently back at Dow editing a project (300 hours) infrared spectra that they are giving to the National Inst. of Sciences & Technology.  They will get a tax write off for this contribution.  Irene had both her hip & knee replaced this year -- is free of pain now.  Youngest son Rob is a major in the Air Force & spent 3 months in Pakistan & the temp was 103.  They are now in N.C.  Jean, Jim & Kay will be home for Christmas.  Nice to hear form friends & relatives.

I tried a new cooky recipe today.  Brownie Surprise Cooky.  You bake them 507 min, take out of oven & push gently a marshmallow cut in half & bake another 5-7 min.  When cool, frost.  Delicious. Barb likes them but doesn't want to eat any.  Calories, calories.  Makes 2 doz.

Mrs. Africa is at the Rouse Home with cancer & she isn't good.  Mrs. Eaton is there as a result of brain surgery.  Both are friends of Bert's.

Guess this is all for this time.

Thurs A.M. - P.S.

Warren H. called at 10:30 pm (I was in bed) & said they are going to Jamestown today for Swedish food -- (Eklund's Bakery, etc.) & would I want to come along.  Thurs. are a bad day to be gone in the aft.  But they will pick me up for lunch in Wrrn so I'll have a chance to see them & have a nice visit. Anna is doing fine but still has to take it easy.  All children & families will be home for Christmas.  17 in all.

Sunday, November 24, 2002

I'm sure you are watching G.B. vs. T.B. & aren't feeling very good about the game.  Barb said G.B. has many injuries.

Last nite Larry walked Torey while Kim got groceries.  They had been to an aft. wedding at First Methodist.  A soccer player who met his bride via the Internet computer.  When he didn't find anyone in the U.S. he went overseas & met a girl from Lithuania.  He visited her last summer, they hit it off & she came to the U.S.

This A.M. Rick Seteli (Karen's ex) was in church with a "new lady".  She looks very nice -- I'm glad for him as he is a nice fellow.

Back to my story -- I forgot what I started.  Lar lets Torey lead him & after walking awhile, Torey headed over here.  Dale & I were just finishing our dinner so Torey got some meat & ice cream for dessert.  Then he heads to where the doggy treats are kept to let us know he wanted the rest of his meal.  Of course he got some.  Dale bo't more today.

Today the weather was nice & tomorrow doesn't sound that good so I walked to CVS.  Needed 2 refills on my medicine.  It was nice to walk.  Funny tho, whenever Barb needs to go to CVS or the library she gets into the car & drives.  I'm not working things right.  But the exercise is good for me & I'm glad I can walk.  Rose S. can't walk any distance & Pat Benson & Anna Hollertz can't walk much.  Both use canes.  So I have a lot to be thankful for & I'll walk until my legs give out.  Millie still walks & she is 87.

We'll eat dinner at 4:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

At church today there were names on a tree for members to take to buy gifts for Christmas.  For the Salvation Army.  I took the name of a 10 yr. old boy.  They have sizes for clothes & a gift they'd like.  He likes Legos & Harry Potter.  There was a name for a 17 yr. old boy but I thought that name would take more money than I cared to spend.  If you want to give fairly good gifts it doesn't take long for the money to add up.  But I enjoy doing it.

I think I've mentioned about the bios in our church newsletter.  Today Cindy said she'd like to interview me & would I do it.  I really don't want to.  I'm not a lifetime member & even tho we lived in Auburn, Warren & Great Falls, Mt I wouldn't have that much to say.

Heard today that Gary Risher had a heart attack & is in the hospital in Erie.   He sure has had a lot of trouble since he left St. Paul.  Wonder how long he'll be able to enjoy retirement.  He's not 62 yet.

Tues. evening

It's 8 pm & the TV has been off since noon time.  They are updating the cable.  I never dreamed it would be so hard not having TV ready to go when you push the "on" button.  I've thor'ly read the newspaper, looked over some cookbooks & I'm at "loose ends" not knowing what to do.  Could start addressing Christmas cards but I'm not in the mood to do that.

The turkey is thawing in the fridge.  Tomorrow I'll make pie crust & do other jobs relating to Thanksgiving.

JoAnna's pkg. didn't get sent til yesterday.  Before we got groceries yesterday, we went to the Mall.  I got a pair of jeans for my Salvation Army name & a bionic lego set.  Had to have 1 toy besides clothes.  Still want to get a shirt & boxer shorts & maybe pj's depending how much everything is.

The first Mon. in Dec. is LCW with a planned potluck.  2 are bringing a casserole, 2 - salads & 2 desserts.  I'm bringing a salad.  We prefer this to a mixture of food.  This way it's a more balanced menu.  The other way is O.K. & it is always surprising how well rounded it comes out.

Sat. the 7th is a "Cooky Walk" & Soup & Pie luncheon at church.  I'll make a pie for it & this year I think I'll also make cookies.  Usually I've made 2 pies but they only asked for 1 pie this year.

Dale just got home -- his late Tues -- & he can't believe there is not TV yet.

Wed. aft. the 27th.  Stella was born on this day.

This A.M. Barb called the cable company & they said TV should have been on at 5 pm yesterday.  They sent a man over & at 2 pm, just in time for "As the World Turns".  There wasn't much to it as it was fixed in minutes.  It also restored my "cheery disposition"!!

This A.M. I cleaned the turkey & boiled the neck & "innerds" for gravy tomorrow.  I love to eat the meat on the neck & it was delicious so it will be a good turkey to eat.  I'm making beef-veg. soup for supper.  The first homemade soup of the season.

This is your "happy camper" continuing.  Today I got my bimonthly "Taste of Home".  In one of the added materials was a recipe for an apple turnover.  It sounded good & I tho't it would go good with soup.  At 2:30 I started making them & they came out really good.  Almost better than pie.  Very tasty.

The Fri. after Thanksgiving Dale takes a lunch so he won't lose his parking place.  So the fellows planned a lunch & each one will bring something.  When Dale heard about it most plans were made so they said he could bring a dessert.  I tried to think of something easy to fix while preparing a turkey dinner.  Pumpkin pie didn't appeal to Dale.  I said let me think about it.  As I sat watching TV brownies came to me.  They are easy to fix & I've been wanting to try a recipe that uses Hershey choc. syrup in the 16 oz. can.  Most guys like brownies & it is OK with Dale.  When I make my pumpkin pie tomorrow  I'll also make brownies.  Problem solved.  The syrup has been in the cupboard waiting to be used.  Just for us I make a smaller recipe.

Thanksgiving is over & I'll finish this letter.  Our dinner was good.  Lar likes the green bean casserole but he likes how Kim makes it.  She uses a white sauce she makes & adds grated swiss cheese. I just made 1 c. sauce & that was enough for 1 can green beans & I can yellow beans. They all liked it.

I really like the new brownie recipe & the fudge like icing.  I cut around the edges for me & Dale will take the rest to work.

Before we know it Christmas will be here.

Sunday, November 10, 2002

I've cleaned up the kitchen, brushed my teeth & washed my face & now I'm in my chair watching N. E. vs. Chicago & Chi. is ahead by 5 with 2 min. to go.   I'm hoping Chi. can hang on. This aft. I watched Pitts  vs, Atlanta & it ended in a tie.  Pitts couldn't hold the lead.

Last Friday we went to Erie -- it was a beautiful day & we enjoyed ourselves.  First we had an early lunch at the Olive Garden.  We love eating there.  We got a good start on our Christmas shopping.  It was busy already -- people spending their Christmas Club checks.  Before we left for home we stopped at McDonald's to use the restroom & get something to drink.  I got coffee & their cookies -- like animal crackers & they are good with coffee.  Barb had taped some old favorites of my day, both popular & classical & I enjoyed the music.

I mentioned I had 2 books to read & both were so good.  Three Weeks in Paris was fun to read.  Final Target was so good but different.  More intrigue & excitement.  Iris Johansen has written many books so I'll have to read more of them.

There are 28 seconds left in the game & N.E.  just got a TD.  It's been a long 2 min.  It always is.

The house across the street went up for sale last Saturday.  Guess Frank doesn't want to live there all alone & Faye won't be back.  Wonder how long it will take to sell.  They've done a lot to the house but the landscaping needs to be updated.

Tues. Nov. 12

I got the bathroom cleaned this A.M.  Had the Bible Study at church at 11 A.M.  Because of that I didn't wash the bathroom floor -- it doesn't need to be washed weekly.  Also got the downstairs dusted so I didn't get too far off schedule.

When Barb came home this afternoon she said "I have something to show you."  It was a receipt for a new mattress set that will be delivered on Saturday A.M.  She has been talking about buying one & finally did it.

Back to this A.M.  I didn't stay at church for coffee but came home to fix Dale his lunch because this is his long day & I like to have a good lunch.  I don't do that every time -- he likes the frozen pot pies & they are filling.

This A.M. someone was looking at the house across the street.  Barb thinks it will go fast.  They have done a lot of work on the house & the wife is very artistic so I'm sure all is nice.  A couple of years ago it was one of the houses to see on the Women's Club "House Walk".  Sheila went & said the house was very nice.

We have a new heating unit at church.  It was too warm in church last Sunday.  They were back on Monday to adjust the system.

Wed. aft.

This letter will be mailed a day early.  Reason:  Last Fall Sheila won a trip to 2 for a weekend in New Orleans   At a cancer doing.  She bo't a 10.00 ticket &^ never tho't her name would be chosen.  So she & her husband are leaving on Fri.  So my appt. is for 8:30 Thurs A.M.  So it will be a rush to get going. She knows I'm an early rise so I wouldn't mind an early appt.

Kim won't be coming for dinner Thurs. nite -- she is going to a painting class.  What kind Lar didn't say, but we'll find out tomorrow nite.

At Quality they keep track of the money spent on groceries & Tues. last, I got a $50.00 gift certificate for spending a certain amt. of money.  So I have $50.00 extra to spend on groceries   Something I wouldn't ordinarily buy.

When I read about the dessert bar you passed up, I thought I'd probably sample 2-3 desserts.  The 5 Forks Restaurant has the Food Bar & we took 2-3 desserts the 2 times we were there.  But they were small pieces.  They were too good to pass up.

Lynn put off taking Scott to the Dr.  He told her he couldn't hear & wanted a hearing aid.  He has an inner ear infection & it has affected his hearing.   I h ope it will be OK after he feels better.  he seems to have a lot of ear trouble.

I'm sure you'll be happy when all the budget meetings are over & that you got most of what you hoped for.

Bert comes home late Thurs. nite.  Barb has been painting one bathroom.  She needed to do a lot of sanding to smooth it out.  Barb saved the work to just before Bert comes.  So she has been busy this week.  Never put off your work.  At least that is what I tell myself.  More next week.

Maybe you're wondering what mom is doing this Sun. aft.  Watching the Steelers run over Baltimore Ravens.  Last nite I watched N.E. vs. Oakland play in the "Snow Bowl" in New England.  What terrible playing conditions.  When N.E. tied the score (11:15 pm) I went to bed.

After church today, we had the annual meeting of the congregation.  We had it downstairs where there was coffee & juice.  Everything went smoothly but there is a lot of work ahead to get back to where we should be.  Then sandwiches, chips, ice cream cups & cookies were served.  We have a good group of members.

Last Fri. I found another 1000 pc. puzzle.  It has lots of color so it should keep me busy for awhile.

Barb got her permanent & she thinks it is too curly but I think it looks nice.

Thus. nite Kim didn't feel good & had a raspy cough.  Sat. Lar walked Torey & came over here so Lary could shovel Carey's walk.  Kim was taking it easy but they went out to eat Sat. nite.  How do I know:  Fran Decker saw them & spoke to them.  She had called me about being one of the hostesses for LCW in April.  Naturally I will.

I thought my company was coming this Fri the 24th but it's not until Fri. Feb. 1.  I am glad for the extra time.

Barb defrosted the freezer last nite so it is in good order now.  For how long, I won't tell!

Tues. Jan 22

I was thinking of going to a 11 AM Bible Study at church but I'm changing my mind. I don't seem to get going this A.M. & it's a pot luck lunch afterwards.  This is Dale's late week & I like to give him a good lunch rather than just a sandwich.  Feb. mtg. should be the early week.  And we get groceries today.

I see the Mets made another trade.  The Brewers got Glendon Rusch who was great in 2000, shaky at times in '01.  Maybe a change will be good for him.  In about 3 weeks the pitchers start spring training.

You'll probably notice Dorothea Lundahl died at the age of 98 years.

After gazing at my floral puzzle I manage to put a piece or two together.  Many shades of pinks & purples really have me puzzled!  I'll be lucky if it's done before my friends come.  But I won't give up. I ican push it back into teh corner & put the rocking chair in front of it.

Wed.

Gen called last nite.  Just wanted to find out how things are here.  She always sound good on the phone.  I almost called you folks Sun. nite but I didn't want to "rub salt into the wounds" after Green Bay lost & Pittsburgh won!  I'm hoping they can beat New England in Pittsburgh.  Of course Gen & Ed are rooting for New England.  They watched the game Sat nite.  Got to get this mailed.

Saturday, September 8, 2001

We're having summer weather for a couple of days so I'm on the porch & will start a letter.

I've started my Christmas shopping at a Bon Ton sale plus 10% coupon off.  I noticed  Dale could use a new satchel carrier or bag & got one for him.  It is very nice & I'm sure he will like it.

Also I ordered new blinds from Penneys for the eating area.  They are top down or bottom up shades.  I like the idea of having the top down to let light in & the bottom down to protect form sun & privacy.  Altho the trees have grown together & give privacy from the school yard.

This next week Dale will be on vacation & I hope he will get them up for me.

On Tues. I have a 10 A.M. eye Dr. appointment & he will take me over & I'll walk home.

Barb has been looking for a med. blue denim shirt.  She looked in Madison, Erie & Jamestown.  Yesterday she found just what she wanted at Bon Ton.  She didn't expect to find one here so that was a nice surprise.

When Eddie plays football, do they wear all the equipment that Andy's age does.  We were wondering about that as he is still in grade school.  We should have sent you Eddie's picture but Barb wants to wait & finish the film.

Had a letter from Ruth.  It must be this weekend that Rachel's baby Jack Franklin Morressey will be baptized by Arland in Beloit.  David's parents will be coming form England.

She had to have a plumber come as she had plugged drain pipes.  A new connection so they could use the Roto rooter.  That's always a budget buster.

I go to the bank once a month & I list my needs & then figure out how much money I'll need by 20's, 10's, 5's, etc.  It usually takes a little while to make it come out even, but I manage to figure it out.  Then I have envelopes for flood, hair, spending, church, etc.  It works for me so I don't overspend.

Your letter came today with the pictures of Andy.  It is such a good picture with a nice smile.  My handsome grandson!  He got a nice hair cut.  How many extra pictures did he have to exchange or don't they do that.  I'm sure a lot of girls would want his picture.   Thanks so much.

I'm watching Wis. vs. F.S. & it's the start of the 2nd half & I'm sure you weren't' happy with the F. S. TD.  It was some run.

I've also been watching the tennis U.S. Open & they have been very interesting.  Tonite the Williams sisters play for the title.  Should be interesting.  Barb & Kim were hoping Jennifer Capriati would beat Serena Williams so they were disappointed.  Barb was rooting for Agassi & he lost.

Sun the 9th

Last nite I watched the Mets vs. Marlins.  It was a seesaw game but the Mets prevailed.  I'm sure you've noticed it's too little too late but I'll be glad to see them hit the 500%.

Dale plans to put up my new shade in the eating area & he will paint the basement shower.  he also got a new shower head.  So his vacation won't be spent only working on cars.

Yesterday Barb went back to Bon Ton to get a 2nd denim shirt but they were all gone.  She was disappointed.

It's still warm so I turned the AC on.  And Dale was soaking up the sun in the back yard.

I'm watching football -- switching from Fox & CBS.  Enjoying Indianapolis beat the Jets.  Buff. isn't doing too good, neither is Pittsburgh.  I see Green Bay is winning.

Mon A.M. the 10th

Dale got the new shade up but he said he'd never put up another one.  He doesn't think much of it but I thin kit will be O.K.  Kim likes the ones they have in their bedroom.

This A.M. he has been scraping the loose paint from the basement shower.  He is so particular.  Next it's to wash it down good.  Dry out & then painting.

We had rain during the night & this aft it is turning out nice.  By the end of the week it will be jacket weather.

We're getting lots of nice tomatoes from the garden.  Green peppers are good, too.

I watched a lot of football on TV yesterday.  There were some good games & I enjoyed them.

Want to get this mailed.

When I got the mail yesterday, I saw a package & wondered what could be in it.  Thanks so much for the beautiful frame with pictures of my only grandsons.  I love it.  Nice to see Eddie in his Cub Scout shirt.  It brings back memories of Larry & scouting.

We have snow & cold weather.  I didn't get my hair done today - hope to be able to go next week.

Last Mon. nite Bert (Barb's boss) had Barb, Lar & Kim & Dave & Lois (neighbors of Lar & Kim - across the st.) over for a drink.  It was a nice evening, they said.  Bert left yesterday for New York City for a visit.  She has an apt. there.

This is your weekend to go away.  The schools have Mon. off for the first time here in Warren.  It's about time.

It's only 17 so Barb decided to defrost the freezer.  We put the food in bags on the front porch while the freezer is defrosted & cleaned.  It took her 2 1/2 hrs. to get it done.  She didn't want to wait considering the winter we've had so she took advantage of freezing temps.  I stayed out of her way & let her do it on her own.

Dale was suppose to go to school in Rochester today with another fellow.  But they only had room for 1 so Dale didn't go as he had several transmissions to remake.  I was glad considering the weather & Rochester always get a lot of snow.  We should be glad as the snow means moisture & we need it.

Scott hates to go to the Y.M. after school - he wants to go home.  So on Tues. Barb will pick him up & take him home & on Thurs. Lynn will do the same.  On Tues. & Thurs. he goes to soccer & likes that.  Fri. Bob is off so he can pick Scott up.

We got a Christmas card from Roland & Linda.  I'm sure you got one as well.  What nice looking teenagers they have.  Not too long before Andy & Eddie will be teenagers...Andy next Sept.  How time flies.  Before you know it Andy will want his own telephone & the girls will be calling.

This semester Kim has had all the 8th graders in Health classes.  Next semester she only has 1 health class of 12 students so it will mean less work for her - grading tests, etc. so she is looking forward to the 2nd semester in about 10 days.  She had less gym classes this sem. & that's what she likes - the gym classes.

Saturday aft.

Kim & Torey stopped by for a visit & a cup of coffee.  I was watching Miami get whipped by Jacksonville. 1st half almost over & it's 41-0.  I'm happy but Barb feels sorry for Marino & is rooting for Miami.  It is now 41-7.  I think Jax will win.

Now it's Tues the 18th.

Kim bro't over 2 more in the series of Jan Karon's books & I'm putting together a 1000 pc. puzzle & have 2 USA crossword puzzles to do.  No mail yesterday.  So letter writing is taking a back seat.

We're having veg. beef soup for supper.  Also made stromboli & a pecan pie for dessert.  Good meal on a cold day & we're having cold weather.

My back is still sore but a lot better.  I need to wash the kitchen floor but I'm not up to that yet.

On Fri. the 21st I will have been house bound for 3 weeks, except once I walked to 5th to mail letters in the box there.  Fri. we might go to the Mall & I'll get my hair done & should be able to get back to church next Sun.

Nothing exciting here but pecan pie!
