I couldn't decide if I should bake this A.M. or Mon.   But Mon. is suppose to be in the 80's & this A.M. is cloudy so I made blueberry load & a pumpkin pie.  I'm down to my last 2 Danish rolls & if I'm ambitious I'll start a recipe on Sun, get up early Mon. & bake the rolls.   (I was!)

Asked Dale if he'd have Sat. off (his week to work Sat) & he said probably not.  But he did.  Seeing it is cloudy he decided to wash his car.  According to Dale you never wash  your car in the sun!

Yesterday when Warren & Anna picked me up, he said Anna didn't care where we ate (her turn to choose) so he chose the Chinese restaurant.  I like to go there because you can choose what & how much you want.  Some Chinese food doesn't appeal to me, bu9t there is variety.  While we were sitting there in comes Larry & Mike Brindis.  They go to lunch often on Fri.  Larry's treat I'm sure as Mike doesn't have much money.  Lar shook hands with Warren & Anna & talked a bit.  Warren had gotten 3 $1.00 lottery tickets, passed them out & we scraped them off & I won $5.00.  Warren gets half so I only get 2.50 but at least there was one winner, however small it was.  We have fun reading the paper in the fortune cookies.  I like to eat the crisp cooky.

Last nite Barb was ambitious.  Changed & washed her sheets.  Made her version of goulash & made peanut butter cookies using organic as much as possible.  She doesn't always eat what I prepare.  Fri. nite I ordered pizza, tonite we'll have hamburgers, etc., Sun chicken legs, & Mon. steaks.  Plan to make potato salad on Mon.

Remember what the Dr. said, "You had made surgery," so don't rush your recovery!  As you wrote, you are 56 years old!  Have to get a little motherly advice in.

Thurs. I made a fruit salad & the watermelon & strawberries tasted so good.

Barb hasn't been able to ride her bike as often as she hoped, due to the weather.  Maybe this weekend she can make up for it.

One of Kim's friend's daughter is getting married in June so Kim is hosting a shower for 15 this aft.   She plans on chicken salad, which she ordered from a store, bakery rolls, fruit salad including strawberries & watermelon, punch & an ordered cake.  So most of the food is ready made but she'd have to get the house in order, etc. so she is a bush gal.  And Sun. she'll play golf in a tournament for the dog pound.  They are building a larger building for the dog pound.  She'll be gone most of Sun -- there is a dinner when awards are given out, etc.  She'll have Mon. to rest up & then school is still (my mind wandered) will soon be over.  Kim hopes to teach 11 more years & then she'll have a 25 yr. pension.  A good money difference from 20 to 25 years.   USA is having a good series son saving money for retirement.  I'm surprised at the money debt people have on their charge cards & what they don't save.

Forgot to mention after lunch, we went to the new Dollar store in the same area as the restaurant.  Still empty spaces to fill up.  They have some good prices & everything is light, airy & clean looking.  We both shopped a bit. 

Finished my puzzle Thurs. nite.  It is such a pretty picture.  Barb started one she bought.

When we were at the Bon Ton we looked at hanging chimes for the porch.  Kim & Lar gave me one & Barb said we needed another one to balance the picture.  So we found one & the nice part they were 60% off so it was less than 10.00.  One chimes, one twirls in the wind.  We really had wind last weekend.

Time to think of lunch.

Sun. nite

I'm sitting on the porch enjoying the nice evening.  This aft when Barb was out & Dale sunning himself, I turned on the kitchen TV & watched the Mets & set my rolls for tomorrow A.M.  I can enjoy a fresh roll with my coffee.  I fixed homefried chicken legs in the oven & ended up with a hot kitchen.  Tho't we could eat in the dining room under the fan, but remembered the NASCAR race started at 5:30 pm & Dale would want to watch it.  Barb bro't a fan down from the attic & that helped a bit.

The new neighbor across the st. cleared a lot of the old shrubbery & now it is nice to sit on the porch & look across the st.

The pastor's baby was 1 year old on your anniversary.  I sent a card with a gift of money.  People were so good to us, so I felt right in doing this.  This A.M. she told me how much they appreciated it & I know she means it.

Our new organist starts next Sun.  Just hope we can keep him.  After church this A.M., we had a brief mtg. to accept a bid to paint the exterior of the church windows, trim, pillars, etc.  No problem it was OK'ed.  It will be some over $3,000.00   One bid was $8000.00.  Donald Gustafson, Jr. will do the job.  A Christmas & Easter member.

We had some extra flowers so Barb planted 2 pots & they are on the front porch.  She also planted the barrel by the front steps.  Begonias & a vine.  I got 45 cosmos plants, old time favorites, & they are on the porch with 2 begonias & a petunia plant.  They will fill out as they begin to grow.   And I see rose buds on the plants between the garage & the back door.  I love roses.

Does Andy think the Braves can catch the Mets.  I hope not!  The Mets have to give more support to Pedro M. so he can win a game after pitching so well.

Someone up the st. has to mow his lawn so I'll go inside -- out of noise reach.

Wed. last day of May!

This A.M. Barb & I went to Jamestown.  I was looking for a pair of tan shoes & ended up buying a pr. of navy shoes.  Again everything is the mule shoe but not for me.  At Sears I saw a pr. of navy low heels & I grabbed them.  Haven't seen much in navy.  I do have a pr. of tan shoes I can wear.  We didn't eat out.  Went to Wegman's & then home.

We've had the high heat & it is wearing me out.  Thunderstorms will bring cooler weather tomorrow.

This A.M. I cleaned the bathroom as I knew I wouldn't want to clean this aft.  I've been watching Hou. at StL & the score is tied in the 10th.  I don't' know why ESPN has to have 3 men in the booth & all they do is talk & tell their views.  It's on mute except for Jon & Joe Sun nites.

I haven't turned on the A.C., just have a fan in the kitchen & the ceiling fan in the D.R. 

This is Dale's early week & when he comes home he changes to shorts & sits in the sun.  He likes the heat.

Fri. June 2

Last nite Kim stayed til about 8:15, talking.  She finally realized she can't take Torey on long walks.  Just a couple of blocks now.  Think she realizes Torey is on his "last legs".  What a sad day it will be when he is no longer with us.

Earlier in the year she had mentioned 6 teachers (1 at Sheffield) had been caught exchanging porn material on their computers.  5 men, 1 woman.  Their consequences:  the last 2 weeks they are out of school with no pay.  She doesn't know if more will come -- punishment, that is, such as losing their jobs.   The one from S.H.S had finished his qualifications to became a principal & now that won't happen.  Talk about kids not thinking of what can happen -- adults surely should.

Barb is organizing a garage sale for Lynn.  Something Lynn doesn't like to do.  She started yesterday & just left to spend a couple more hours sorting things out.  Barb could be a professional organizer -- she's telling me I should be more organized.  At this late date, I think I'm pretty well organized.  Sometimes her room looks like she should practice what she preaches.  All is well here.

It's a sunny day finally.  This A.M. I wrapped the rest of my gifts after finding boxes.  I have to get another gift for Kim -- she likes candles so maybe I can find something interesting like that.  She suggested clothes for Lar so that was easy.  And Barb & Dale like clothes.  Only Barb has to choose hers so I get the right thing.  Dale & I went together & got her a jacket from L. L. Bean.  It's very nice.

The end of Nov. I got 4 candles & 4 Christmas dishes to hold them.  Used 2 of them & put 2 away.  And of course I can't find them.  I'm sure they are in the dining room.  But I did find the Anniversary Towel Barb has for you & couldn't find.  I found it on the top of the buffet in the dining room.  (I found the plates.)

Barb got her hair trimmed today & the back looks very nice.  The top is in curlers as she doesn't like how the gal styles it, so I will have to wait to see the results.

I have a schedule made up for the week.  Mon reg. duties & grocery shopping.  Tues. I must wash the kitchen floor for one thing.  Wed. I start 2 kinds of cookies to chill overnite.  Thurs. bake cookies plus a bar cooky.  Set 2 recipes of rolls.  Fri. up early to bake rolls.  Get hair done.  After that frost rolls for Dale.  Barb will deliver them.

I plan to order the prime rib dinner for Christmas Eve.  It includes the meat, baked pot., rolls & bean casserole.  I'll add salad & dessert.  Christmas Day I'll fix breakfast & then we open our gifts.  Dinner between 4 or 5 pm.  I'll fix a turkey breast with the rest of the goodies. Haven't decided on dessert.  That is easy to do.

Had a card from your folks, JoAnna, & they enclosed a picture.  Very nice.  They wrote "we celebrate our 50th next y ear."  Please send me the date of their anniversary.  I'll write it on the calendar & send them a card.

Mon. Dec 19

Heard from Dick today.  He is (helping) - working at Michigan Molecular Inst. doing consulting work.  Also started to write another book on spectroscopy & hopes to finish it in '06.  Heard from Shirley Carlson (Don) & she had seen David.  He had 2 operations on his back.  Has graduated from a walker to a cane.  He has retired & they are raising alpacas.  I think she said they have 17 of them.

Last nite I watched some of the Chicago game on ESPN.  I sure wouldn't want to sit in that cold weather to watch a football game.  But the people were well wrapped up even to covering their faces.

Last nite I woke up & was cold.  No heat in the blanket.  The connection had come loose.  I fixed it & in no time had a warm blanket & went back to sleep.

Today is Eddie's 14th birthday.  Another year & he can think about driving.  Does it seem possible.

Dale cleaned out his closet -- got rid of 4 shirts & I'm having him check over his sweaters. Someone can make use of them.  Especially in this cold weather.

The Buffalo Sun. paper had an article about 2 reporters doing Christmas shopping in the thrift stores.  It was very interesting -- the buys they found, etc.  They describe them & the cost. One item was never used.

Dale didn't get home til close to 7 pm.  He gave the car a good cleaning inside the shop.  It really looks nice out the kitchen window with lights off.  It really shines.

We ordered the prime rib & Barb will pick it up on Sat before the close at 5 pm.  I got a turkey breast for Christmas Day so I'm set for food.  Haven't decided on desserts tho.

Dale just brought down a large bag full of clothes he won't wear.  I'm sure they will make someone else happy.  It is hard for him to give things up.

Tues A.M. the 20th

I can't do much until Barb gets up.  The job on schedule is the kitchen floor.

It was 7 when I got up at 6:10 A.M.  What will Jan. be like after this cold spell in Dec.  We need a respite.

Larry said he did the Sudoku puzzle in the USA Today & solved it.  So Barb decided she had to try & she solved it & enjoys doing it.  Me, I just stick to the crossword puzzles with the help of my puzzle dictionary!!  Something you don't approve of.  But I've memorized some of the answers & that's good for an old lady!

Thurs. 22 of Dec.

Got the cookies baked & some out of the freezer & Barb made up a nice plate of cookies for Johansons.  Lynn doesn't bake -- maybe Pillsbury cookies.

Also set 2 batches of rolls for Dale.  Have the baking sheets all set to go; the table set for breakfast so when I get up at 5 AM I'll be set to go.  Would like to get them frosted before I get my hair done.

Lar & Kim were here for dinner.  Didn't make a dessert but had fruit & cookies.  Fruit could be salad or dessert.  Worked out fine.  Kim was a little late as some of the teachers met after school for a drink.

By the time you read this Christmas will be over.  Hope it was a nice one for you all.  May your New Years be filled with many happy & successful times in your lives.

Dale decided the van needed new tires so he ordered them thru Shults, got them yesterday & put them on last nite.  Barb is happy & so am I with the weather we're having good tires are a necessity.  He put them on right after work & Barb was home by 6:15.  Dale didn't get home until 7:30 -- he had to put his tools away & clean up.  He's the only one willing to clean up  -- my extra fussy son.

Yesterday I finally went to the chiropractor & will go again on Thursday.  When you're older the adjustments he makes are easier.  It's still sore when I have to straighten up but getting better.

Barb said Scott's meds were increased & it makes him better.  Nicer personality & he is more willing to do his homework.  He's hoping  for a real gun for Christmas but Lynn says no to that.  Guns & motorcycles are his interests.

This is Dale's late work day so this A.M. I set my sweet rolls & hope they can be ready to bake in awhile.  Also have cooky dough chilling.  And I'm out of dinner rolls & should make them tomorrow.

This A.M. I wrote 3 notes for cards for Auburn & Bainbridge Island & one for Mont.  Also heard from Gene Hasselquist & got his card ready to mail.  Still have notes to add to cards for relatives & hope to get them set to go.  Just a few words to let them know how we are. Then cards for the Warren area.  Have you even started to think about Christmas greetings!!! Time flies, you know.

Thurs. nite Dec 8

Warren Hollertz called & said they are going to Jamestown Mon. the 12th to get Swedish food for Christmas.  Would I want to go along.  Told him about my sore back but he talked me into going.  But my back is still sore & stiff so I'm going to have to call & say I can't. Can't take the riding as Warren goes around Lake Chautauqua from west to east.  Stops at a Swedish store that sells Swedish shirts, etc. & then to the grocery store.  And they spend quite a bit of time looking around.  (Can't finding the word I meant to use in the small dictionary.)  And standing around a lot tires me so it's better to stay home.

We have old strings of light & Barb put a set around the mantle & it looks nice.  Then she put another set in the dining room by the windows & we like how that looks.

Dec. 9 Fri. AM

Just got back from having my hair done.  Started a load of wash; then a cup of coffee to warm me up.  It is cold & blowing outside.  The weatherman says we are getting Jan. weather early this year.

My back is still sore but improving, I hope.  Hope to start wrapping gifts today.

Made a recipe of Andes mint choc. cookies but only baked 2 doz.  Froze the rest of the dough for later baking.  It seems I'm the only one eating them -- don't ask how  many are left! Just a few.  They are so good with a cup of coffee.

Kim was telling about 2 of her 7th grade boys.  They weren't behaving during a basketball game so finally Kim made them sit on the bleachers & that meant writing them up.  During this time, they were continually using the "f" word.  One kid started to cry & said "My dad will kill me."  Parents are notified when written up.  The next day the kid apologized to Kim; call the kids to come & did the same to the kids.  Then the father comes in & asked if his son apologized sincerely & she said yes.  "Did he apologize to the class as well?"  "Yes," Kim replied,  Kim thanked him for his support -- the first time that ever happened to her.  Kim says he is a good kid but a follower & will do what the others do, even when he knows better. Kim said the father didn't call the son by his first name, but said Mr. last name.  Wonder if he is too much of a disciplinarian -- more fear than love, and that is sad.

I'd better get busy.

Sat A.M. the 10

It's 8:20 & no paper yet.  I have a coffee cake in the oven & it smells good.

Last Sun. the pastor announced the Christmas services.  Christmas Eve 8 pm & Christmas A.M. at 10 o'clock.  Then she said be sure to come as that is the only time we'll sing the carols.  There is so much emphasis on Advent, usually 4 Sun. & no carols can be sung & then Christmas comes & goes with little celebration.  I prefer the old way -- I thought the birth of Christ was the important subject.  Who am I to say.

When getting the Christmas ornaments I could never find the stocking holders.  This year Barb looked & brought down the ornaments & lo & behold, she found the stocking holders missing for 2 years.  They add so much.  Barb is going to the post office -- till next time.

Trick or treating started at 6 pm & by 7 we turned out the light.  The candy was gone.

Was up at 5 A.M. & as soon as Dale went to work (7AM) I finished rolls I started on Sun. Sheila & Sue always come by to show us their get-up.  They each got 5 rolls, Scott got 4, I ate one & 5 were left.  So I walked over to church & gave them to our pastor.  Her husband loves them.  Then I did my Mon. chores so I'd be ready for Sheila & Sue.  I waited all aft. & they didn't come.  Mon is our day to get groceries so when Barb came home a little after 4 we left to get groceries.  When we (Dale & I) were eating Sheila & Sue came.  Right into the kitchen & it was a mess with pans etc. around.  Barb had eaten earlier as she had volunteered to answer the door.  T hey won $150.000 for prizes for their costume.  They love Halloween & are very clever in their ideas.

Now I'm watching TV & relaxing.

The puzzle I chose is a brown building against white snow & tree branches.  Not much color.  Even Barb doubts my choice.  It is far from easy to put together & I wonk I wont' get it done.  It was a bad choice!

Frank, across the st, sold his house & has to be out in 3 weeks.  He's sorry he has to leave the neighborhood as he has enjoyed living here.  He's very friendly whereas we never see the new neighbors, (Carey's house).  He'll still be in Warren in a small apt. for the time being.

Maybe you'll see that Ethel Johnson died.  Chris's mother.  She was 90 last spring & was at the Rouse Home.

I'm watching Psychic Detective.  A murder takes place in Greenfield, Mass. before Halloween.  Greenfield isn't that far from Spfld.

Wed. aft.

Barb was telling me that Scott was doing thru his mother's jewelry to see if he could find something to give to a girl.  Lynn said "no way" is he to give away any of her jewelry.  These kids have to "go steady" with someone to be a "jock".

We gave up on the brown & white puzzle, so I'm working on an old one with lots of color.

Tonite I'm having pork chops, succotash, rice, applesauce & banana cream pie.  Sounds good to me.

We're enjoying Indian summer & it is so nice.

I ordered Barb's Christmas present, a Danskin toning system, from Penney's.  Her choice. And a sweater set for me.

BiLo had Food Club flour, Heinz ketchup, Swanson's broths, each 5 for $5.00.  I always get cheese there & our favorite lunch meat, Sahlens ham, was on sale.

Yesterday UPS came to the door with a large envelope for Dale.  Good he was home as the Co. wanted proof.  Had to see his driver's license.  It was a check for $250.00 to buy tools thru their distributor.  Trouble is, one hasn't called at Shutls for some time & Dale knows what he's like.  He thinks they might have a catalogue he could order form.

We had a nice dinner & visit with Lar & Kim.  I can't get any Christmas gift ideas from Kim.

The other A.M. I happened to look out the kitchen.  It was 5:30 A.M. & I saw a couple out walking.  It reminded me of you two walking in the early A.M.

I'm enjoying putting pieces of the puzzle together.  Much nicer than staring at the pieces to see if I can find some that go together.

The yawns are beginning to tell me it is bedtime.  When it gets close to 10 pm I'm ready for bed esp. Dale's early week.  So I will say good night.

I'm sitting on the front porch enjoying the cool breezes before it warms up.

I'm up early every A.M.  Rolled out & baked a crust & made a strawberry pie.  Cleaned up the dishes, got dressed & watered the flower pots. 

Dale is taking a shower & Barb is still in bed.

At 6 AM, the "booms" went off at Beaty Field to announce the 4th of July.  Parade at 10.

To me it is just another day.  I'll change Dale's bed & do a couple of loads of wash.  I'm sure you both are busy with party preparations.

Sat. was such a nice day.  Fri. I set Danish & when I looked around 8 pm the dough was to the top of the pan.  So I decided to finish them Fri nite.  Sat. A.M. I made a coffee cake & chocolate cake.  We have plenty of desserts.  The cones we like are on sale this week so Barb got 2 pkg yesterday.  Am I getting fat?  Oh yes when Courtney came for dinner she brought a box of my favorite chocolates.  Russell Stover hard centers.  I will get fat.

We went to the Mall on Fri & went into the shoe store where shoes are cheaper.  Barb bo't a pair of light tan mules.  Naturalizer 39.99.  She like them so much she went back & bo't a pair of brown ones.  Her favorite phrase "I don't need anything".  BUT!

Congratulations to Ed for making the honor roll.  You can see now why we wanted you to make it.  I think Andy did every well, except one, on his grades. 

Watched baseball Sun. & will today but the results aren't very satisfying.  The result of the players for the All Star game will make some fans & players unhappy, while others are very happy.  I'm not sure the Mets centerfielder should have been chosen after the season he's having.  They're choosing on past experiences. 

What a thrill having the Gov. at your party.  JoAnna has "earned it" with her dedication.  What Nelson relatives will be there, if any.

Guess I'll go have a 2nd cup of coffee.  We had steak yesterday & will have burgers tonite.

Later in the day

My afternoon ended with joy -- the Mets beat the Wn. Nationals 503.  Finally a win for the Mets & a loos, finally, for the Nats.  Now I'll watch the Cubs at the Braves. 

We haven't been to the library for awhile, so I asked Barb if she had any books I might like to read.  I'm reading "Young Patriots" by Charles Cerami about the starting of uniting the colonies under one gov't & very interesting.  About Alexander Hamilton & James Madison.  I can't skim on this book & I'm enjoying it.

Barb is riding her bicycle for the 2nd time today.

Yesterday I also made 6 jars of strawberry jam using Surejell.  I used up all the jam I made last year.

There was an interesting article in the Sun. Buffalo paper concerning Niagara Falls, U.S.  Niagara Falls, Ont. is going full steam ahead with hotels, casinos, etc. & attracting the visitors.  Buff. & N. Falls, U.S. fight each other about who gets the money, fame etc. instead of working together to make the Falls a better place to visit.  When we visited there, we always preferred the Canadian side.  We'd see even more sights if we visited now.

We have a lot of blueberries on our bush.  That makes Dale happy as he likes them on his cereal.  They are 2 for $4.00 at BiLo, pints.  Barb got some for me & they are very good.

Thurs A.M. July 7

I'm on the porch enjoying  the nice morning & will finish this letter.  Tomorrow we hope to go to Jamestown & I'll mail it there.

This A.M., I made a pecan pie.  When I made the strawberry pie, I did what Barb wanted -- made the crust using butter substitute & used it in the crust.  Didn't like it at all.  This A.M., I went the complete opposite & used Pillsbury pie crust.  It's faster.

Then I got the garbage out & watered all the pots of flowers.

Dale tho't he could wear his work uniform twice but last nite he said it got too dirty, so he did a load of his dark clothes.  He knows I don't like to work after supper.  Good experience for him.

The Mets beat the Nats last nite & took the series.  Tonite they are in Pittsburgh so I can watch the game on the Pitts. channel we get.  I was happy that Jeter (Yankees) didn't get the last spot.  A Chicago White Sox was chosen.  Nasty, aren't I.  I'm referring to the All Star game -- I'm sure you realize that.

Tonite I'm using a new recipe.  It calls for penne, broccoli, zucchini which you cook the last 5 minutes in  the penne mixture.  Saute onion, garlic in olive oil.  Add some (tom) spaghetti sauce, add shrimp & finally mix it all together.  Barb thought it sounded good.  Time will tell.

I better go inside.  Something is making my nose run.  Developed an allergy or something in my old age!  And it's coffee time.

The kitchen is cleaned up so I'll finish this letter.  They liked my penne-shrimp dinner.  They think I could increase the veggies & I agree.  Barb thought the shrimp "tasted real good".  It's a dinner I can make again.  Always nice to have a little variety in the menu. Very easy to make.

Now Torey's front paws are cracked & sore.  He limps around & still he has to go on long walks.  He will be 13 in the fall.  He wears socks on his front paws now.

Kim said she noticed in The Guide, which is seldom delivered to us -- no one to do it, that a house in the 300 block on Conewango was sold.  She doesn't know if it is Frank's or Collins's.  We should soon know -- see evidence of a move. 

Now your party is over.  It is a lot of work but I'msure it brings a lot of happy memories.

This is the weekend NASCAR returns to racing & we have been watching Speed Channel & races.  The big race is tomorrow from Fla.  If you are a real fan & have the money that is the place to be this weekend.  Daytona Beach.

Think I've mentioned this before what I learned from the Food Channel.  Marinate chicken with balsamic vinegar, onions & garlic, only I omit the garlic.  It is absolutely Dale's favorite way to do chicken.  They pan fried the chicken, but I baked it.  We had that tonite with Uncle Ben's rice, another of Dale's favorite.  And broccoli & fruit salad.  An easy & fast meal to prepare.  Make peanut butter bars for dessert.  Another easy recipe.  Similar to choc. chop cookies.

Barb has to go to the liquor store almost every week for Bert.  Barb hopes they don't think she uses all of it.  Barb thinks Bert should cut down on alcohol.  She is 87, in poor health, her friends have died or are in nursing homes so I say let her have her comforting drink.  She doesn't get out that much anymore.

Sun. Feb 21

We're watching the racing -- it is exciting to watch.  I forgot to mention when I had my hair done, I said to Sheila racing starts Sun.  Sue's customer said "Marion do you like racing?" Sheila answered for me.  "She is a big face fan."  I said I have to be as that is the main sport for Dale so I have to understand it.  I do enjoy it but it takes a back seat if baseball happens to be on at the same time.

I don't know if you remember the Nicholson's.  They lived on East St. next to the funeral home.  There were 2 sisters & 3 brothers.  One was a lawyer who was a good one but ides young.  None ever married.  They all have died & the last one died rectally.  They were ever active in the church but open to it.  They left over a 2 million estate.  The church will get the interest of 20% of the estate but it will probably take up to 2 y ears to settle (the estate). Pretty nice.  I know Dad used to call on the sisters who died first.

Barb & I finally finished the puzzle.  I'll put the card table away for awhile.

We won't go to Jamestown tomorrow -- the weather won't be that nice, sleet & rain.  I'd rather wait for nicer weather.

We like our new organist.  He plays very well & is getting acquainted with the liturgy.  He makes the organ sound very good.  He will lead the choir.

Tues pm the 22nd

This A>M. I went to Bible Study at church followed by pot luck lunch.  I made my tools to bring.  One thing that is never left over.  The pastor took 3 rolls home the last time I bro't them.  Her husband ate all three of them. He said "who made those rolls, I want to marry her."  Today I gave her the left over rolls so her husband should be happy.

Barb took the laptop computer to Lynn's so Lynn could help her get started -- how to use it.

You know what I remember about Janesville.  We spent our first nite as man & wife in a hotel there.  Our wedding was at 8 pm; after the reception we drove with Min & Lila & family to Beloit & then we took their car & drove to Janesville.  It was a terrible night.  Jan 26 & it was foggy & you couldn't see anything & it took a long time to get there.  We spent Sat. night with Min & Lila.  Dr. Benander asked Dad to preach at Salem that Sun & he did.  The first of the week we left for Auburn via train.   We got to Auburn in the morning & went from the train to the Strands for breakfast.  They are the ones that let you, Paul, open the cupboard doors & play with the pots & pans.

We've been watching reruns of Seinfeld & they are so crazy.  The other nite I was surfing the TV & came upon "Beverly Hills Cop 2". It was so crazy & I laughed so hard. Dale came downstairs to see what I was watching.  And today Perry Mason was in color.  Barb tho't that was the only one in color -- the first series.

That was really nice to be invited to consider applying for the job in Janesville.  But I can understand you not wanting to move because of the boys & the feeling you still have something to give at Middleton.  I guess that is why we continued to stay in Warren. It sure looks like a nice modern building.

I hope you're over the flu by now.  I had an extra Valentine so I sent it to my friend Shirley in Auburn.  She's the one whose husband died last Nov.  Heard from her today. The card arrived when she was getting over a bad case of the flu that left her very weak.

I don't know if you remem -- I've already covered that subject.  Nicholsons.

Our organist is 32 years old & last fall he had a triple bypass operation.  He was at church this A.M. When we were eating lunch the phone rang & it was his wife.  When he returned home he collapsed & was driving himself to Warren hosp.  He lives in Jamestown but didn't want to go to the Jamestown hosp.  We hope all things will be OK for him as organists are hard to come by.  His wife is only 22 yrs. old.  They have 3 children, the oldest is 6.  She was young when she had the 1st one.  T hey are a nice couple.

Wed. the 23.  I made the apple dessert from Bon Appetit (however you spell it) and it is good.  I had to sample it.  It has a think graham cracker base & that adds to the taste.

Gen called this noontime.  She tho't she was calling Millie.  We visited a bit.  Called Betty Casey -- she had a slight stroke & is doing better.  Hope to get to church soon.

Am I happy!! The Mets won 3 games at Shea against the Yankees.  Won 4 of out 5 games & 2 were shipping the Yankees.  They only bad thing they were only on TV Fri nite.  Fox had the 2 Chicago teams on Sat. & when rain interrupted they switched to N.Y. so we saw parts of the game & luckily the conclusion.  Today I watched the Braves-Philly game & they showed scores at intervals so I knew what was happening.

Barb is doing better.  Hopes to go to Bert's tomorrow.  She said the lump is shrinking already.  Hope that means good news.  It's a tough thing to go thru.

I mentioned they had a potluck at work so that made Dale think they'd get Fri. off.  He was mistaken.  They don't even get Mon, tomorrow, off but they get paid for today.  He has a 10:30 A.M. Dr. appt. tomorrow.  They get time off for that.  I'm sure glad he continues to see the Dr.  The rolls went over big, even with carb diets.  Dale put $20.00 on my dresser for making the rolls.  He asked me how much I wanted.  I said nothing because he does a lot around the house & yard.  Now he's working on a leak in the basement under the stairs. Facing north.

Turned on the A.C. this aft.  It was very muggy outside.  Might as well use it & be comfortable.

Lynn called Barb this aft. & so did Bert who is in NYC.  She'll be home the 12th.  Her ankles are swelling so she is uncomfortable.  Bert didn't want to leave Warren, but her niece pushed her to go & Bert can't say no.

Our pastor was on vacation this past week.  Ray Forstrum preached today.  He is recovering from a kidney ailment.  He made a couple of mental errors but that happens as a retired pastor grows older.  Doug Decker was in church today.  He looks good & he is in the Atlanta area.

Mon. July 5

Dale will take a week's vacation this month & then he'll get a blood test.  He will have to fast as the Dr. wants to check his cholesterol.  I never realized how much the blood can tell a Dr. Not until I started having to get blood tests.

Did Andy enjoy his umpiring?  Seeing the game from a different angle.

While watching the Braves yesterday, one of the announcers said Chipper Jones has never missed the playoffs -- since Little League.  My heart bleeds for him!!! Ha! Ha!  They won't do it this year.  It's a cycle & they've been in the good cycle for a long time.  Hard to tell who will be on top.  The Astros are a disappointment.  The N.L. East isn't that good this year.  The Mets finally have a good  outfield.  They hit against the Yankees & I hope they keep it up. They "out homered" the Yankees & that's pretty good.  I'm not biased at all!

Tues July 6

Barb had to see the Dr. today but she didn't feel up to going.  She called them & they said it is necessary to test her blood.  (She wanted to call you tonite to tell you about it but I said you work Tues. nites.)  So she went & I went with her as we were going grocery shopping afterwards.  The new cancer center is really nice.  It turned out Barb was glad she went. When the Dr. examined her, she was amazed!  The tumor had been reduced 50%.  Barb thought it felt smaller.  T hose at the Cancer Center said kemo would never make it smaller & it should be removed.  We are all elated.  I called Gen & Millie to let them know as both are concerned.  When we got home Barb called Lynn & Bert & they were happy.  She was there 1 1/2 hrs & was concerned as I waited for her.  I talked to a woman who was waiting for a ride home, so the time went fast.  Just hearing the good news made Barb feel better.  And getting out helped as well.

Thursday

Lar & Kim are going to a soccer game the end of the month with Dr. Jay & Nancy.  Kim wanted to know the date & Lar couldn't find the tickets.  (Nancy has them.)  So he started to search thru his dresser drawers.  He didn't find the tickets but he found $500.00 he had squirreled away.  He couldn't remember putting it there.  He also has money in their attic (apt) with the flying squirrels.  Kim wont' go near the squirrels.  She made almost $200.00 on her garage sale.  There were 4 of them & together they took in $700.00.

I'll tell you why I'm thankful for strawberries!  Barb picked 4 qts.  2 for her & 2 for me to make straw. jam.  I got the jars ready, looked for lids & of course I'd forgotten to write it on my grocery list.  I saw I had a pkg but didn't really check.  So I got my berries ready, washed jars, etc. & then noticed the lids were for qts.  So I decided I'd have to walk over town & get some after lunch.  Went to the post office, to Crones to see if they carried canning supplies. They didn't.  Then I cashed a check for July exp., walked to BiLo & got my lids & 3 glazed donuts & a cup of coffee & rested a bit.  I divvied my money into budget envelopes, changed my clothes & started making jam.  Got 6 pints.  It's so much better than store bot.  I've been afraid to walk over town because of the time my knees buckled.  Today I was forced to face the monkey on my back & now I know I can do it.  I'm really happy over that.

Kim called around 2 pm to say Barb called.  She was scheduled for 9:30 kemo but she was about to start around 2.  Others were ahead of her, but why did she have to be there so early.

I did my regular chores today & have supper simmering on the stove.  Chop suey.  And I feel good.

Barb felt pretty good when she came home.  They found cancer in the lymph nodes but it hasn't gotten into the bone.  She had a catalog from the cancer society to order a wig & head coverings.  It takes about 2 weeks to start losing her hair.  After a couple of days she can drive.

I'm so happy for Cyndi & Albert and the new baby.  They waited a long time & now they have Joseph.

Tues. June 29

I'm moving slower this A.M.  After a shower I made my bed with clean sheets & have a load in the washer.

I overslept this A.M.  Woke up at 4:44 A.M., turned over & went back to sleep.  When I looked again it was 5:48 & Dale was already in the shower.  Didn't hear him get up.  Barb will take it easy today.  I'll work my 1000 pc puzzle & be quiet for awhile, meaning take it easy.

Wed. last day of June

Barb still isn't feeling good.  Can't keep food down -- not even medicine.

Lar called & Kim won't be coming Thurs. because she's working on her garage sale for Fri.

Dale got a $300.00 catalogue gift certificate from work.  He had to decide on something by the end of June.  He ordered a camera & I'm enclosing a sheet about it.  He showed it to me & I tho't you'd be interested.

I finished my puzzle today.  It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  And I didn't lose any pieces.

July 1

Barb feels a little better today.  I told her she should be up more but she didn't take my advice.

Kim was telling us about a party at Bones Blair's former house (estate) next to them.  They always have a 4th of July party -- fireworks, etc.  Kim & Lar's friends Dr. Jay & Nancy are always invited but never attend.  This year the Dr. thinks they should.  They've heard at the end of the party they exchange mates & "enjoy" themselves.  Nancy said to Kim, "if that happens I'm coming over to your place & watch soccer."  Lar & Kim are out there overnite. So that's how the "other half live!"  The host is a Dr. as well.  Came here from Pittsburgh.

Dale just came home for the Danish for his potluck at work.  He says they're all on "carbs" diets trying to lose weight.  But one of the gals there, Sherry, will take any leftover rolls.  She'd like me to make some for her, but I'm not getting into that.  I was up at 5 A.M. to get started.  Also make a strawberry pie & got the garbage out.  When I work, I work & when I'm lazy I'm really lazy so it evens out.

Dale doesn't work tomorrow, Fri, so he will take me to get my hair done if Barb isn't better.

Barb said she's feeling better & is able to keep food down.

I'm watching tennis.  Interesting matches.

Just walked to 5th to mail a letter for Dale.  I saw the letter & it gave me a reason to walk a bit.

Barb was to go on the 20th for kemo but when Dr. in Bradford heard that he said "No, she can't wait that long, so it will be 1:30 on Thurs this week.  He must really be concerned about the lump.

Fri. nite Lar & Dale moved furniture.  I'm in Barb's old room & she is in mine.  All her "stuff" fit in, & the lighter wood looks so good in that room.  Yesterday I finally got my personal stuff out of the closets -- still using shelves for blanket, etc. for storage.  She cleared out the closet in the little room so I have that.  My bed was covered & I went thru things & have 2 big bags to add to the pile already to g.  Some things were too big, others too old & should have gone long ago.  Maybe by fall there will be more.  Next will be Dale to clean out his closet. He said he has pants in there from his school days.  He likes to keep things like the rest of us.  Changing rooms has made such a difference for Barb.  The basketball & Barb just don't mix.  It's like red to a bull!!

Bert is a worry wart.  Barb said to me, you never worry.  Some things may concern me, but what's the use of worrying. It just upsets a person & can make them sick.

I'm glad the library Open House was so successful.  It must be even more interesting to work there now.

Barb & I each got Lar a gift certificate from Howe's True Value.  He shops there  lot & can get what he wants for his birthday.  It doesn't seem possible May is here already.  Soon you'll be making plans for you July party.

Guess my rest period is up so more late.

Wed the 5th 4 pm

I really was busy this aft & it feels good to sit.  Before lunch I made pie crust & set dinner rolls.  After lunch I started supper -- beef cubes -- then rolled out a pie crust, formed my roils  Oh yes I also made sugar cookies & put the dough in the fridge. Then I started baking, pie crust for a banana cream pie for Thus; the rolls & cookies.  By 4, all was cleaned up & put away.  So I really accomplished something today.  The reason I made sugar cookies is Viola Seaquist is home from the nursing home  & seeing I'm so close I feel like I should visit her. And I wan t to bring cookies.  If I get ambitious I might even make rolls.  Brian will enjoy them as I'm sure Viola isn't able to do much. I know they enjoyed the cookies & rolls at Christmas.  I'll see her on Fri. the 7th.  Set danish for her.

Thurs.  Barb saw the Dr. today & fist she has to have a battery of tests.  Starting next Wed the 12th  Fri A.M. she has to be there at 7:30 for tests.  They took blood today.  Barb's spirits are good.

Started another 1000 pc. puzzle.  Barb helped me finish the last one.

When you wrote about sports, you mentioned darts & softball.  You forgot one -- lifting the mug to your mouth!  Ha!Ha!  Those were your bachelor days.  You mended your ways after you met JoAnna.  Right?

It must be fun to live in an area where there are so many places to shop & to have a meal.

Wed & Thurs next week, the 24th and 25th, I think, Dale goes to Rochester for school.  Will leave Wed. A.M. at 5:30, stay overnite & be home Thurs. nite.  Next Wed. is the last time for Kim & Lar to come on Wed.  Soccer will be over.  Torey will be surprised & puzzled when Dale is gone.  Dale always feeds him "Beggin' Strips".

Sun. Mar 21.

Fran Decker hasn't been in church for several Sun.  I thought maybe she was in Fla.  I found out that she fell shoveling snow & broke her hip.  Nothing was in the bulletin or newsletter.  I was surprised & I've missed the Tues. A.M. Bible studies where I would have found out.  I have a card ready to mail & also one for Viola S. who is at Warren Manor.

Spring has arrived but you wouldn't know it.  Snow flurries & cold temps.  I'm ready for lighter clothing & being able to wear short sleeves.

Wisc. is playing Pitts -- just 1st period Pitts. is ahead but it is close.  I'll keep checking (now tied.  Go Wisc!)

I ordered pizza for supper & it should be here any minute.

Tues. March 23

Last nite I called Millie & she loves her move.  There is something going every evening.  She needed a Dr. & Linda went on the internet & found a Dr. in the area who would take new patients.  Millie got an appt for early June.  She found a shop to get her hair done each Fri. On Thurs. a company comes & they can order groceries, etc. to be delivered.  I'm glad she is happy.

Dale doesn't go to school until Thurs & Fri. so he will be home so Torey will be happy.  We sit around the table & talk & I know Dale enjoys that.

I finally got to go to the Tues A.M. Bible Study.  I didn't know what to bring so I made a rice pudding & 2 others had the same idea.  I like it so it will get eaten.  It doesn't interest Barb & Dale.  We still had a good variety of food, but no coffee.  There was no coffee in the cupboard so we just had water.  No one missed the coffee.

When I got home I made dinner rolls & cleaned up.  Then started supper & now I'm sitting in my chair, enjoying TV.  Tues. nite V has good detective stories on the Learning Channel & Court TV.  Forensic Files, etc.

Do you remember Bud Carlson, Harriet Carlson Johnson's twin brother.  He died in Fla. They've lived there for many years.  He fell & broke several bones in his back & the trauma was too great.  Doug is your age & Tom is Lar's age.  Doug is in Fla. & Tom is in the area. Before Dad retired, he married Tom & his wife.

Don't think I mentioned St. Paul has new green & blue paraments.  The green will be used, I think, for Pentecost season & the blue for Advent & Christmas.  I like the blue color.  I should know my church calendar!  I know we're in the Lenten Season & Palm Sun. & Easter are soon here.  8 days & it will be April.

Thurs. nite

Lar & Kim were 15 min. late tonite.  Kim's brother Paul is in jail for 6 mo.  He got in trouble with the law trying to protect his cousin who drinks & uses dope.  Paul is no angel & Kim thinks this might help him.  He called at 6 pm & can talk for 15 min. after reversing the charges.  It's sad for Kim but she will get thru it.  She feels the responsibility for her brother. He has been married twice & divorced both times.  He has another girl friend & Kim has spoken to her on the phone.  We'll see if she (girlfriend) will see him thru this experience. Some need to learn the hard way & we stand by them, whatever.

We had pork loin tonite & I made a chocolate cake for dessert.  Wanted something different. Also set danish today -- don't like to let them get too low as I enjoy one with coffee & I use them for shacks one week for Dale.

Thurs. 3/25

Dale was up at 4:30 A.M. & left at 5:35 for Rochester for 2 days of school.  I was up at 5 A.M.  After he left I made my rolls & got them iced.  Had my shower, got dressed & stripped my bed & started a load of wash.  9 A.M. I had my hair done, 1 day early as Sheila, her husband & 2 other couples are going to Atlantic City for the weekend.  When I got home, I put the sheets in the dryer, started another load.  Made my bed up clean & looked over the paper again.  After lunch I did a little ironing.  Then it was free time for me.  Had a brief nap & now I'm watching golf on ESPN.   Player's Tour & both Tiger & Davis Love are off to a bad start.  I like to watch this course, it has some interesting greens.

Dale was suppose to go on Wed & Thurs  but it was changed to Thurs & Fri.  He went alone so I didn't have to prepare a lunch.  He has more money to spend seeing he isn't married.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Jamestown.  First Barb will work at Bert's -- we'll leave at 11 A.M. & have to be back by 3 pm as Barb picks Scott up after school & helps him with his homework.

Barb took her bike in for a checkup -- she hopes to start riding again.

When you get the Warren paper, you'll see Warren has a lot of plans for the future.  I hope they all come true.  Something needs to happen.

At the library I got 3 more books.  Started & finished "Paradise County" by Karen Robards & I liked it.  I skim a lot & stayed up til 10:30 to finish it.  Started "Cyanide Wells" by an author new to me, Marcia Muller & it is a good one.  Have another K.R. "The Senator's Wife" to read.  Started another puzzle & didn't get very far.  The books take precedence.

The only baking today was making boxed brownies with a peanut butter candy topping for the bake sale at church.  Haven't sampled them yet -- too warm.

We might not get to Jamestown next Mon. the 26th.  Sleet & ice are forecast for Sun into Mon A.M. Just as well.  Tues is Bob J. birthday & since he & Scott love my Danish, I'll make some for his day.  Tues A.M. is Bible Study at church plus a pot luck lunch.  I hope to go & have to think about what I should bring.

I'm still working on menus so I can have what I need on hand.  I'm getting there "slow but sure".

I made a soup this week for lunch & it just about burned our mouths.  You know I'm a bland "cooker" & I didn't notice the canned tomatoes I used had hot peppers in them.  I didn't finish my bowl.  Dale did but the next day he didn't want any.  Too hot.  He told me I needed to read the labels better!

When do you think you'll buy a car?  If you don't trade in the van it will be Andy's car.  Right.

Tues the 27th

Will this weather ever end.  I'm getting tired of it.  School was called off today due to bad roads   Dale said the roads were bad this A.M.  It's a good day [for soup] & I'm making veg. soup for supper   (Lost my thought)  Soup day -- this must go with "It's a good..."

Haven't done much today except to read the papers & watch TV. It's that kind of day.  Did finish rolls for Barb to bring to Bob.  There was Bible Study at church this A.M. but I didn't care to go out.  Maybe it was called off.

I watched a lot of CNN news of the events in New Hampshire.  Also on CSpan.  Who are you for among the Dem. "entourage".  I'm sure more will be out before long.  Some never had a chance.

Thurs. the 29th

I was working on my puzzle & decided I should finish my letter.  Lar & Taury just left -- Kim left earlier to go out with the girls.

"All in the Family" is on & it's hard not to watch it.

Dale had to work on another car that hadn't had an oil change, so make sure Andy knows oil needs to be changed to keep it running good.

All in the Family was about Archie & Edith's 25th wedding anniversary -- it was so funny.

Nothing happening here but snow & more snow & cold temps.  We are all well here.

Yesterday Patty. W. Phillips called to ask if I'd like to go to our pastor's open house in Sheffield.  I said yes -- she also picked up Marie Mathis & Betty Casey.  The roads were fine & we enjoyed the visit.

Today we have between 4-6" of snow as it has snowed all day as of 3:50 p.m.

Last nite was Shults Christmas party at the Country Club.  Dale didn't stay for the dancing & drinking.  He said the parts mgr. was already feeling good.  He wasn't impressed with the food.  They had prime rib & the meat was OK.  He likes Jackson Valley better.

Yesterday I finally finished shopping for Kim.  They got a new dining room set & this table is rectangular so I got a table cloth to fit it -- on sale plus discount6 & the glassware was on sale plus coupon & I got a relish dish.  One side is divided into 3 parts & the other is plain.  I like it a lot so I hope Kim will.  Larry likes a gift certificate from Lawn &^ Garden & he can get what he wants.  Kim says Lar is shopping there a lot.  Did I mention he wanted a slim TV &^ bot one.  It is by the computer so he can "compute" & watch TV at the same time.

We have a new artificial tree at church & it is beautiful.  Tall & full.  courtesy of Ron & Marilyn Thelin Passenger.  It is on the left side by the piano.  Next Sun. the children's program will be at 6 pm followed by a reception -- cookies & punch.  Coffee as well as no coffee in a Luth church wouldn't be acceptable.

I took chicken from the freezer for dinner & asked Dale how I should fix it.  Chicken & spaghetti was the answer.  We both like it that way.  Barb is making herself a salad, a big one.  She doesn't always want what I serve so she makes her own.

Soon you'll have another teenager.  How time flies.  And it does -- I can't believe I have to bring Sheila's money gift this coming Fri.  And I have to make cookies.  Some for Sheila & Sue, the other gal & I think I'll bring some to Viola Seaquist. She doesn't get to church in this winter weather & she might appreciate some.  It's good her one grandson came back from Calif. as he lives with her & makes meals, etc.  Brian Scarpo.  Barb makes up a tray for Johannsons.

Nice Rachel will have another child.  Have you noticed many times only children want more than one child.

I still haven't decided what to have Christmas Eve.  My books & magazines haven't given me any ideas.

Wed. the 10th

I had to be sure there would be enough Danish for Christmas breakfast so I started a batch & baked them this A.M.  Last Sat I didn't get to bake so Dale's A.M. treat is Danish from the freezer.  I've started  baking cookies but a couple of batches I like to make just before Christmas.  I've made Spritz & Russian Tcakes, a cookie that has several names.  I got my recipe from Stella.

Weather report -- more snow today & tomorrow & snow flurries on Fri.  Let it snow, let it snow...

Just have a couple of gifts left to wrap.

Yesterday I got Cornish hens for Christmas Eve.  Have til Mon. to decide what to have for Christmas Day.  I'd have lamb but Barb & Kim wouldn't be happy.

Better get on with my "schedule" -- just took a little rest period.

Later -- Quality had tilapia froz. fish -- buy 1 get 1 free.  That's what we had for sup per -- pan fried for about 5 min. with lemon juice.  Delicious & it doesn't smell up the house & it is one fish Dale likes.  Baked pot, gr. beans.

And Barb & I decided to have a shrimp cocktail, steak, baked pot., salad for Christmas Eve. Christmas Day we'll have Cornish hens, herbed rice, veggie, relish tray & I might try a recipe I saw Egg Nog pie. Maybe cookies & a pudding Christmas Eve.

Thurs A.M.  I used a plastic sled to take the garbage to the curb.  We must have 6" of snow. Then I swept the snow from the font steps & made a path for the mailman.  Before that I made a banana cream pie (made the shell yesterday) & started dinner rolls.

Dale is at Sam B. watching the Steelers & they can't be too happy.  Cleveland is ahead & they are in the 4th quarter.  But hopes are high!

Freda Woodall, Bertha Nelson & Bernie Bloom died Wed, Sat. & this a.m.  Freda was 97, Bertha early 90s -- both ailing a long time.   Don't know Bernie's age.

We received another blow this A.M. in church.  John Check resigned as choir director & council member.  No reason.  He's been the glue holding things together.  Hope it's not illness or someone thinking he's taking too much upon himself.  Wonder what happens next.

Thanks, Andy, so much for the casserole holder you made.  I love it & needed another one to hold a hot casserole from the oven.  Your work is excellent.  I'm real proud to heave it.

I called Millie last nite.  She mentioned getting your letter & enjoyed hearing.  They have a lot of snow & she was plowed in.  Couldn't get out to get groceries. She finally got it cleared.  IT had frozen solid so you couldn't shovel it out.  When Linda was home during Christmas they went to see Gen.  She took them upstairs & when Ed built the addition it added 2 closets to their bedroom & Millie said she was surprised at the mess.  Gen never throws anything away.  The church has a fall bazaar & Millie was trying to get Gen to part with things but she won't.

Both Gen & John were sick over New Year's with the flu & it lasted 3 days.  The holidays weren't so nice for them.

And Gen's old Dr. died so Thurs the 9th she will see a new Dr.  I hope he can help a bit.  She has no interest in anything & if Millie questions her she says John takes care of things.

Mon. 4:30 pm.  I'm tired after a busy day of putting things away.  Just a few more things to go in the attic from Christmas.  Things are looking more normal now.  I hate too much clutter.

Started supper after lunch & I'm glad I did.  We're having beef & pork cubes over rice.  Sort of a chop suey.

Dale didn't get home for lunch til 1 pm.  He had to finish a job.  I wondered what happened as he usually calls if he's not coming.

I mentioned about the Santas we got at KMart on a Mon.  On Tues. Barb went back alone to get another Santa & on Tues. they have a senior citizen discount.  The cashier asked Barb is she was a senior citizen. That didn't go over too big.

What are your plans for spring break or will you be too busy to get away.

Were Albert & Cyndi home for Christmas?

Watching the Steelers win yesterday was too exciting.  I was sure they would be losers & then it happened -- keeping us on the edge of our chairs.  They won.  I'm sure you were unhappy when the Packers lost.  We watched the game.  And San Fran won in the closing minutes.  I was rooting for the N.Y. Giants.  Only 1 winner per game.  Too bad.

Last Sat. I made Danish & used my new pans & inserts & it worked so well.  Easy to clean & I needed only 2 pans for 1 batch & they wren't crowded.  I will really appreciate them.

Dale gave Barb a cookbook -- Cooking for Your Health -- for Christmas.  More of his bargains.  Kim tho't it looked interesting so last Sat. Dale got another one.  He's starting his shopping for Christmas early.

I lost my house key.  Noticed last Fri. they weren't in my purse.  I've looked everywhere -- also the car key & I don't know where else to look.  Will have to get on made.  Last Fri. Barb left the house opened as I'm back soon after she leaves.  Haven't checked the car yet.  Maybe they got dropped & I didn't realize it.  [Got one made.]

Yesterday I got 2 pillows at KMart so I could sit up & see the TV better in bed.  I'm looking forward to watching baseball in bed.  What is it -- 7 or 8 weeks & spring training begins.

Mon & Tues were busy days so this will be an easy day.  Get garbage ready & easy things.  Decide on a dessert for tomorrow & a different way to fix chicken.

Thurs. A.M.  I found my keys.  Decided to look in my slack pockets & found them.  Have an extra house key if this happens again.  Don't usually put them there.

This A.M. I decided to wear my new brown slacks & new blouse.  Saw the Dr. this aft. & all is well.  Blood pressure going down.  So I decided to change clothes & as I was hanging up my slacks (charcoal gray) I saw the brown slacks in the closet.  I took the wrong slack but they matched OK.  Who is getting old!  It was dark when I picked them out this A.M.

We're just about set for Christmas.  Mon. they have a pot luck at Shults & Dale always has to bring the Danish rolls.  So Sun. aft. I'll start 3 batches & finish them Mon. A.M.  54 rolls will have to be enough.  Sherrie, the one who works out the financial end of buying a car, loves them & she'll take home any that are left over.

Barb fixed a nice fox for Lynn & family.  A dozen rolls & 4 kinds of cookies & a few sugar cookies Scott loves -- the ones Eddie likes.  Lynn doesn't bake so they appreciate them & I love to make cookies.

A Home Depot has opened in Jamestown.  In an ad (USA Today) Dale saw something he'd like & plans to go in tomorrow.  We have a little snow on the ground & it is more like winter.  I still walked home from the Dr.   Last nite Lar & 2 neighbors went to Home Depot & Kim was out with the girls, so they left early (last nite).

Usually I'd buy little things to put in the stockings but this year Barb & Kim decided we should draw names to fill a stocking.  A few years ago I didn't get gifts for the stockings & they were disappointed so I went back to it.  It's nice this year but I had already gotten a few things.

I have my meals planned for Christmas Eve & Day but not the dessert, if I want something special.  Can fall back on Viennette & cookies.  I had that last nite.  I've seen a recipe for an egg nog dessert.  Maybe I'll try that.

Bi Lo has been enlarged & fixed up.  Barb says it is really large.  On Wed next, we will go to Bi Lo as Barb thinks I should see it.  I've been making a list but I'm not sure of how things have been rearranged.  Barb says they have changed things around.  More walking & some elderly people don't like it.

I heard from Mim & Tom & got a picture of Jack.  He is so darling & bright looking.  They will be in Beloit for the Holidays.  I'm sure you know that.

I sent money for a memorial for Genevieve to her church.  They have a foundation & the gift was acknowledged.  It said it will be used for something designated by the family.  I'm sure they have special funds but I don't know that.  Dad's memorial money went into "the pot" & I don't know how it was or is used.  That should change.  People should have a say.

Saw Lilith Johnson at the Beauty Shop.  She said Arlene Hornstrom is in Buffalo with John.  She likes to sleep til noon, doesn't take her medications, etc.  She doesn't want to be with Julie or Beth because the husbands make her get up, get dressed, take her medications, etc.  That is too bad.  She has sugar & must take her medicine regularly & on time.  She doesn't care any more.

Today is the shortest day of the year & soon the days start getting longer.  In our area it means it is day light longer.

I can't believe how Andy is changing.  He is growing up.  He'll be shaving before long!  Did Eddie ever find his jacket.  You should be able to find one on sale.  Seems like everything is on sale nowadays.

Had a card from Albert, Cyndi & Julianna with a picture of Julianna in a red dress & hat.  Adorable.  It was nice to hear from them.  Albert must be back from overseas.

Your tree looks very nice, and the table as well.  And the fireplace.  Very festive.

We're having veg. soup & pumpkin pie for supper.  Decided on a dessert for Christmas Eve.  It's a lemon pie but different.  You add 1/2 c. sour cream & whipped cream to the pudding once it has cooled.  Lemon is my favorite & since no one came up with ideas I'll choose my favorite.  No meringue but it should be good.

I think St. John Luth. was the church Min & Lila went to.  When Gen was older she decided to go to Our Savior's & joined there.  Sang in the choir & was active.

I'm watching New England vs. Miami & N.E. is ahead & I'm for N.E.

When you wrote about Eric, I wondered why he would have so much money in his wallet.  Maybe he got paid & went to the party.  Someone must have known about the cash & his weakness & set him up.  Guess it 's the same in all generations.

Mon. Dec., oops it's Wed. Dec. 26th.  A mixed up week because of the holiday.

This A.M. Barb & I went to Bi Lo's & it surely is a nice store now that it is remodeled.  They sent out a coupon worth 10.00 if you spent 50.00 or more, & it is easy to do that.  I got steaks to try our new grill.  Gen called just after you did last nite & she had gotten one from Ed.  Millie has one & likes it a lot.  Millie had a check up & she has high blood pressure.  There is something else but Gen wasn't sure about it.  I'll call her & find out.  Gen has problems making a meal -- getting everything ready on time, etc. but she said getting Christmas dinner went pretty well.  Things seem to bother her more now.

Today I'm wearing my blue shirt.  It is very nice & I like the other blouse & the gloves.  Thanks so much.  We were all very well remembered.  Dale got clothes & he likes them.  I got him jeans, a size larger 34-36 (my pens are going dry).  He was pleased with all he got.  So were Barb, Kim & Lar.  Our tree is holding up very well.  I water it every day.

Received a lovely red poinsettia from Lynn & Bob -- a thank you for the cookies.  When Lynn came by, she thanked me.  Bob came by with a check for Barb & he thanked me.  It wasn't that much & I have fun doing it.

The lucious lemon pie I made didn't turn out so lucious.  Too tart.  Lar ate his piece, but I didn't finish mine.

I didn't know if Kim & Lar had plans for Thurs. but they don't so they'll come as usual.  We're going to their house either Sat or Sun nite for dinner.  Most likely Sun. as they have plans for Fri nite & Sat they hope to go to the Home Depot shopping for the tool set.  Dale loves it & Lar was impressed with it.

My work schedule is upset.  Washed towels & a dark load today but I'm taking it easy.  The dust will wait for me.

Fri A.M. the 28th.  Kind of a mixed up letter.  It's 24 this A.M.  After I get my hair done, I'll have to cash a check for Jan. expenses & go to CVS.  We haven't been to the Mall yet.  Maybe tomorrow.  There should still be some sales.

Thanks for the pictures.  They Thanksgiving table as beautiful.  If I were 11 or 14 I would be very interested in your handsome sons.  I envy the girls!  They look so good.

Yesterday I went out to lunch.  9 of us.  Ted & Sue Schaffer were able to join us.  They are in E. Ohio.  Ted Bensons picked me up & I rode home with Hollertzs in their new Buick.  Very nice.  Reason I didn't ride home with Benson's -- they were taking a clock to Sugar Grove to be repaired & they could get there by taking another road.

Dale took your pkg. to work as UPS picks up there but they do not weight it -- they'll do it at UPS Kane & put it on Shults acct. & then Dale will get charged.  Anyway, it is on the way & I hope it arrives in time for JoAnna's birthday.

This A.M. I bro't 2 pies (pumpkin & peanut butter) to church for the soup & pie luncheon & Cooky Walk.  It looked so nice.  Red table covering & decorations.  They had 135 doz. cookies to sell.  I've always made pies but next year I might make 3 doz.  That' what they ask for.

Torey's tail is much better & he doesn't pick at it as much.  To keep him from picking at his tail, they had him sleep with them.  But he slept on Kim's side and he took all the room, so Kim either didn't sleep or went to the other bedroom. But since his tail is better, he doesn't have to sleep with them.

I'm just about finished with my Christmas shopping.  Just a couple of little things needed.  Just wrapped 1 gift -- Barb's -- & that was to keep her from peeking.  She knows what it is, but not the coloring, etc.  An angel she liked--  she liked several.

I never got to get my blood pressure checked as it rained a lot.  I plan to go on Mon. as it will be OK for walking home.

Don't know if you got the Warren paper telling of Sherman Burdick's death.  I'm sure he was an acquaintance of yours.  He was 50 -- Oct 27.  Cancer.  Had worked in Portland, Ore.  Buried in Warren.  He went to Eisenhower but I know the name is familiar to me.

I recognize the pictures by the plate.  I have always like that picture so much.  Take before we left Auburn, I think.

I had planned to write 5 notes a day this past week for my Christmas cards.  I wrote 2.  I'll have to get busy as I hope to mail my distant cards on Fri the 7th.  I had a letter greeting from Gene Hasselquist in Minn, formerly Mt.  His wife Gladys is in a nursing home -- sometimes she know them, most times she doesn't.  How sad.  And how lucky I am to be in good health & keep up in baking, house, etc.  This A.M. I made a pie (pumpkin) for us & cookies, choc. chips, for us & Dale's snacks.

I have Penn State vs Virginia on TV.  What a turn around for Penn St.  They might even get a minor bowl invitation.  They are ahead 14-13 so they need to get going.

I think I mentioned I took a name from the Salvation Army for Christmas gifts.  I got elastic waist jeans & a blue striped knit shirt, PJs, underpants & T shirt underwear.  They are so cute & so small.  2T.  At Big Lot I found a stuffed animal in his favorite color, blue, & it was only 3.99.  Then at KMart we saw a soft, plush, blue teddy bear & Barb bo't it as it is so soft & cuddly.  9.99.  Then I weakened & got a farm truck.  Not the one suggested but it looked good for a little boy.  It's fun to do but it dos add up.  One way to bring happiness to a little boy.

Sun A.M.  I'm ready for church with time to spare.

Scott loves the sweet rolls I make & Barb usually takes 3 when I make them. One for Scott, one for Marisa, one for Bob.  Scott thinks he should have all 3.  Then Barb told him they can be frozen.  So he wants 300 for Christmas so he can freeze them & have one when he ants to.  No way will that happen.

We have several large bags of clothes to take to the Salvation Army.  One from Dale plus the suit he had for high school graduation.  A good jacket of Dad's or 3/4 length coat.  Lar took his jacket he wore when he cross-county skiied -- how do you spell it?  One i, too lazy to look it up at the moment.

The church's social hall looked so festive yesterday when I brought my pies over.  Mon. nite is LCW meeting -- a dinner and Eleanor Ristau & Marge Ristau are providing the meal, Janice Carlson will pick me up.  Maybe the husbands were cousins.  Marge's daughter Molly is Dale's age.

Now it's later in the day --= Sun -- & you'll have to be my "sounding board".  Joyce Rohlin sat by me in church today & we visited a bit & we share the same feelings concerning things at church.  She compared the letter we got in July (on a very small basis) to what happened 9-11-01.  NYC work the nation up & the letter woke many of our members up.  They remember planning, raising money & building our new church & the energy that took.  Then to talk about closing the church -- that was the last straw.  She has the same feeling I have -- more energy in the church, members coming back and we know things will work out.  Some of the council met with the interim pastor & were favorably impressed.  He has been divorced & they adopted 2 younger children.  But I don't know his age.  Since Dec. is taken care of, he won't start til Jan 1.

Dale got the outside lights put up but he was upset as if 1 light goes out they all do.  But he must have found the bad light.

I'd better get to my cards.  Wonder if Gerald & Darla are in their home by now.  I never can read her writing but they always send a card.
