Trick or treating started at 6 pm & by 7 we turned out the light.  The candy was gone.

Was up at 5 A.M. & as soon as Dale went to work (7AM) I finished rolls I started on Sun. Sheila & Sue always come by to show us their get-up.  They each got 5 rolls, Scott got 4, I ate one & 5 were left.  So I walked over to church & gave them to our pastor.  Her husband loves them.  Then I did my Mon. chores so I'd be ready for Sheila & Sue.  I waited all aft. & they didn't come.  Mon is our day to get groceries so when Barb came home a little after 4 we left to get groceries.  When we (Dale & I) were eating Sheila & Sue came.  Right into the kitchen & it was a mess with pans etc. around.  Barb had eaten earlier as she had volunteered to answer the door.  T hey won $150.000 for prizes for their costume.  They love Halloween & are very clever in their ideas.

Now I'm watching TV & relaxing.

The puzzle I chose is a brown building against white snow & tree branches.  Not much color.  Even Barb doubts my choice.  It is far from easy to put together & I wonk I wont' get it done.  It was a bad choice!

Frank, across the st, sold his house & has to be out in 3 weeks.  He's sorry he has to leave the neighborhood as he has enjoyed living here.  He's very friendly whereas we never see the new neighbors, (Carey's house).  He'll still be in Warren in a small apt. for the time being.

Maybe you'll see that Ethel Johnson died.  Chris's mother.  She was 90 last spring & was at the Rouse Home.

I'm watching Psychic Detective.  A murder takes place in Greenfield, Mass. before Halloween.  Greenfield isn't that far from Spfld.

Wed. aft.

Barb was telling me that Scott was doing thru his mother's jewelry to see if he could find something to give to a girl.  Lynn said "no way" is he to give away any of her jewelry.  These kids have to "go steady" with someone to be a "jock".

We gave up on the brown & white puzzle, so I'm working on an old one with lots of color.

Tonite I'm having pork chops, succotash, rice, applesauce & banana cream pie.  Sounds good to me.

We're enjoying Indian summer & it is so nice.

I ordered Barb's Christmas present, a Danskin toning system, from Penney's.  Her choice. And a sweater set for me.

BiLo had Food Club flour, Heinz ketchup, Swanson's broths, each 5 for $5.00.  I always get cheese there & our favorite lunch meat, Sahlens ham, was on sale.

Yesterday UPS came to the door with a large envelope for Dale.  Good he was home as the Co. wanted proof.  Had to see his driver's license.  It was a check for $250.00 to buy tools thru their distributor.  Trouble is, one hasn't called at Shutls for some time & Dale knows what he's like.  He thinks they might have a catalogue he could order form.

We had a nice dinner & visit with Lar & Kim.  I can't get any Christmas gift ideas from Kim.

The other A.M. I happened to look out the kitchen.  It was 5:30 A.M. & I saw a couple out walking.  It reminded me of you two walking in the early A.M.

I'm enjoying putting pieces of the puzzle together.  Much nicer than staring at the pieces to see if I can find some that go together.

The yawns are beginning to tell me it is bedtime.  When it gets close to 10 pm I'm ready for bed esp. Dale's early week.  So I will say good night.

It is spring like today, but only for a day.  It is suppose to get colder with flurries.  Makes one think of spring.

This A.M. I had to have a blood test & I couldn't eat breakfast.  I don't go to the hosp. anymore.  It's done at the Dr. offices & I like that better.  Saw the Dr. last Fri. & all is well. My blood pressure was good.

Ed Africa is still in Warren.  Mrs. Gustafson, up the st., told me she had talked to him.  He doesn't know when he'll leave Warren.  He has to go to Nev. to renew the lease on his apt. He thinks he might stay here for another year.  Guess he has Warren in his blood.

Sheila's grandmother died so Sue did my hair last week. She was suppose to go to Pittsburgh last weekend with her husband to see his grandfather who is ailing.  She couldn't go as the funeral was that Sat.  Her grandmother was 93.  Her paternal grandmother.

I have a turkey breast for tomorrow when Lar & Kim come.  Celebrate a late Valentine's.  We had steaks last nite -- Barb and I at at 6 pm.  Dale didn't come home til 7 pm.  He was working on his car.  He tilled his own steak.

At noon today, he said some fellows might be laid off.  Not enough work to go around.

Remember Chris Johnson in your class -- her mother Ethel is in the Rouse Home & will be 90 on Sat.  The 2 girls will have a party for her.  I sent a card as I won't get there to wish her a Happy Birthday.

Wed. nite Feb 16

I'm relaxing a bit after all is cleaned up.  Our meal was delicious, if I say so myself.  I like a turkey roast -- it's easier to fix.  Tomorrow nite Dale & I will have leftovers & there will be turkey for sandwiches.  Kim had a cold & didn't feel that good.  Barb didn't feel good this A.M. but by aft. Barb felt better.  Scott had a book report for tomorrow and Barb had to help him with that.

We woke up to snow.  Dale said driving to work was bad as it began to freeze.  The roads hadn't been plowed or salted.  Kim said the same driving to Sheffield.  Dale was surprised they didn't delay school but the storm came on so fast they didn't realize the roads were that bad.

Bert has a lap computer & she told Barb she could take it home to use.  Barb plans to as she would like to learn more about it.

Barb wonders if you took her camera to be fixed.

No school next Mon. so we might go to Jamestown.  We'll leave bout 11 A.M. as Barb wants to go to Bert's first.  That will give me a chance to do some of my Mon. chores.  We'll eat lunch there.  My choice of eating place this time.

Thurs. the 17th

I'm sitting here, the TV is on to the Weather Channel & I'm trying to think of things to write about.  I you watch the weather channel you know what our weather is about.  Cold & snow flurries.

Buffalo is having problems -- not enough money & the people don't want a raise in sales taxes.  So a lot of people are being laid off, parks are closed & they think the libraries will be cut.  Some people think they need to cut people in gov't.  They checked & found that Buff. has a higher percentage of gov't workers than Chicago & Chicago has a much larger population.  Guess all cities are in the same situation.

Marisa didn't do well at all in high school but now she goes to Jamestown College & is doing very well.  She said it is so different than hi school  She likes school now.

It's early to bed tonite as I had trouble getting to sleep last nite.

We're having a rainy weekend. Just a few raindrops on Sat. so that was nice.  I bro't my umbrella to church & it rained when I walked home.  Now at 7 pm it has cleared & the sun is out.

Barb loves driving the new car.

Remember Cris Johnson, in your class.  Her parents were at the retirement apt. on Oak St. Ethel always came to church & she was getting thinner & thinner.  They had to go to the Rouse Home as she couldn't care for herself & her husband.  They had the Johnson [Allegheny] Hotel.  It is now owned by -- can't feet the name to surface -- not the Elks. Anyway they are finishing the addition that was started & never finished.  Looks nice.  More space for eating & dancing.

The Mets were on TV Sat. Sun & tomorrow.  I never tho't they'd win the game but they came to life in the 8th inning & beat the Marlins.  Tomorrow the Phillys are at Shea & I hope the Mets continue to show a little life.

The Crary Home said Larry could get a cell phone so they can contact him at all hours.  He chose the one he wanted-- it attaches to his pants so it will be with him always.  He got it on Fri. & called me to try it out.  Awhile later the phone rang.  Larry had been fooling around with it, & must have hit the redial button & didn't realize it.  A new toy!

Barb has planted some onions, broccoli, & green beans, as well as all the flowers.  The hanging baskets look so nice on the porch.  They hang so gracefully.

We aren't doing anything special this weekend except sleeping in longer in the A.M. & staying up later.

I got 3 library books to read over the weekend.  Have read 2 books already.  I read Catherine Cookson's The Rag Nymph.  I like her books.  Today I finished A Woman's Place by Barbara Delinsky.  The 3rd one is Aspen Gold by Janet Dailey.  I also got a new puzzle & started putting it together.

When I was growing up, we had to help around the house & I always wanted to clean the bathroom & I still like to clean the bathroom.

The TV said AAA is busy making trip tiks as people still want to travel.  Gas would be higher the summer we travel but we'll split expenses 4 ways.  I called for trip tiks for us a couple of weeks ago & can pick them up June 1, so they must be busy.

Memorial Day

This has been a dark, cold rainy day.  Now at 7:10 pm it is clearing a bit.  I've done only the necessary work -- 1 load wash & meals.  I've been working on my jigsaw puzzle.  All I have left is the sky but they are a variety of blues from dark to light.

The Mets couldn't do it today.  Philly beat them. A bright spot Mike P. hit another home run.  Seattle is still the best team & I hope they keep it up.

Dale didn't want to eat with us tonite.  He's cooking his steak now.  Barb & I had salmon. Made oven fries & green beans.  The gas ran out of the grill but Dale had a second can on hand so he'll be able to cook his steak.  He is sued to eating later.

I could have turned on the heat but I didn't.  It's almost June so I put on a sweater.  It shouldn't be furnace weather!

Tues the 29th - 3:50 p.m.

I'm waiting for Barb to come & we'll go grocery shopping.  I think it will be nicer tomorrow, Wed, so I plan to cash a check for next month's expenses & get more stamps.  Also need to get a chamois to wipe off the car so there will be no spots.

My leg is hurting again.  Since I can't take pain pills (break out in a rash) I decided to go to the chiropractor.  He is very careful in the adjusting & he also gives a heat massage.  His wife does that.  Dr. Vance & he is very good.  He wanted to see the X-ray I got last fall & the hosp. forwarded it.  He told me it shows I had 2 small bone fractures in the upper back & wondered if I ever felt any pain there.  Never did.  Probably came from lifting & they healed themselves.  Also shows a little arthrightes (sp. too lazy to check) & the sciatic nerve is what gives me the trouble.  According to last fall's time I have 2 more weeks to go.  Missed Easter Sun. church & last Sun.& I doubt if I could sit thru Confirmation Service next Sun.  Barb gets the groceries so I'm housebound & it's beginning to show on my "short fuse", losing patience with Dad & that doesn't help him.

Last Sun. we celebrated Barb's birthday & in 17 days we celebrate Lar's.  Ethel Johnson always asked about you Paul.  She said Chris will be coming for the reunion - they live in Fla.

I saw a cotton knit dress in Chadwick's of Boston catalog.  I like the min color but a gal at church has one that color so I'm choosing the apricot.  Will send for it this week.

A&E TV has "The Equalizer" at 10 AM a couple of times a week & I like to watch it.  It's on right now.

Barb has planted lettuce & peas & has more lettuce to plant plus spinach.  She is looking for ward to some good salads.  Also plans to plant beans but has to wait til it warms up - the end of May.  It warms up during the day but nites are still very cool.

We got your last letter & it was interesting reading.  Felt sorry for JoAnna & for all the work she did on the election.  But I'm sure the experience was worth the effort.  You didn't mention Eddie's special reading classes.  We are wondering what is happening there.  When does their baseball season start.  Milwaukee is doing great.  Will you get to any games.  Did JoAnna get to the home opener.  Did you hear the Mets want to build a new stadium where the Brooklyn Dodgers used to play.  But I didn't hear how it will be financed.  Go Mets!

Soon lunch time & my leg is telling me I've sat long enough.  But I wanted you to hear form us.
