We watched the Bills beat the Browns & now Pittsburgh is playing the Jets & the Steelers couldn't get a TD but got a field goal.  Steelers won!!!

I asked Dale what kind of cookies he liked outside of tea cakes.  He said those date ones meaning the date-filled cookies.  Haven't made them for years & he really surprised me. They are a favorite of mine.  Before the Steeler game I found the recipe & made the dough & it is chilling in the fridge.  My dates are too old but we'll get groceries tomorrow.  I'm going to try making Biscotti.  The coffee shop in Warren has them & they as good to dunk.

We needed bananas so we stopped at Quality on our way home from the Mall.  Dale likes cacti plants & we saw a pretty arrangement of 3 cacti with stones, pebbles & wood.  We got it as a gift for him. Barb brought it over to Lar to keep it til Christmas Eve.  We didn't know where to hide it uncovered & we didn't want to keep it loosened in a plastic bag.

Barb went up to Lawn & Garden to look around & she found the cutest Santa on sale.  It is a policeman Santa holding a little boy on one arm & a flag in the other hand.  It plays "God Bless America".  I claimed it & paid her for it.  The boys is saluting the flag.  He (Santa) has a fat tummy, blue suit with a whistle around his neck & a club on his belt.

I got my "away" cards mailed.  Had a letter card from Carole & Arland & see they have a new address & I had their old address on the card.  I used a label and covered it.

Noticed UB's baseball won over Niagara "in a thriller" to quote the Buff. paper.  Another article says "UB athletic dept. has something special brewing".   They have a new athletic director & I guess they have hopes of better teams & more winners.

Barb said the announcers on the  Buff. game said the Steelers would have a hard time winning then the Steelers play in Buff.  I said that's crazy & she didn't like it being a Buff. fan. So that should be an interesting game for this Nelson family.  2 against 1.

Mon. the 13th

I'm watching CNN news & they were telling about 2 men robbing a house when they heard a video "Stop, we've got the house surrounded."  They ran out of the house & didn't take anything.  Guess the videos are good for something.

Our toaster oven won't toast anymore.  We got another one & without reading the direction, Barb said it gets too hot.  She had the oven part on.  I'm not sure how it will heat rolls up.  It is a Black & Decker so it should be OK.  To toast you don't heat the oven.

We're getting our first snow but not as much as in Chautauqua County.  Erie had had an accumulation.  We don't' have much but more is expected thru the nite into Tues.  There was a late start to school (10 A.M.) because of slippery conditions in the outer parts of Warren County.  Frozen slush, etc.

I've noticed the adds on TV like the videos you are now getting.  Will you, rather are you watching them.

Tues. the 14th

I looked at the calendar & realized Christmas is next week & tho't I'd better get busy.  And so I did this A.M.  This is Dale's early week so I was up at 5 AM.  After getting things ready for breakfast, I formed my rolls & baked them.  Then I made molasses cookies -- I put them thru the cooky press & they came out very thin & have ridges -- I love them that way.  Then I made the Russian tea cakes; next came the rolled out cookies.  I put a date mixture on one cooky & covered it with another circle & baked them.  I'm not good at making rolled out cookies & their looks aren't hat great but they taste good.   I washed pans, etc. several times, rested a bit with a cup of coffee & then got lunch for Dale & myself.  After lunch I started a veg. beef soup & made a pumpkin pie.  Soup & pie for supper.  Finally at 2 pm I sat down & I'm watching my soaps.  It feels good to take it easy.  Oh yes I changed my sheets & did a load of wash.  Pretty good for an old lady, don't you think.  I'm just thankful I can do it.  I still plan to make one or two more recipes of cookies.  Barb likes to give a plate of cookies to Bob & Lynn.

Your pkg. arrived late aft.  Barb & I opened it i& she put your gifts under the tree.

Wed. the 15th

Dale said the bank at the Mall was robbed this aft.

Erie has had a rash of robberies -- pizza places, fast food & Radio Shack.  Tonite the Erie news at 6 pm told they arrested a young fellow.  I missed the first part that told how they caught him, but it probably will be in the Wrrn. paper tomorrow.  They know he committed 2 of them & think he did them all.  He carried a gun & used it at times.  When someone tried to take it away he shot it to let them know he'd use it.  He didn't look at all sorry but when he's in jail for a few years, he'll change his tune.

Made 2 batches of cookies today & plan to make 2 or 3 more batches.  Made Spritz & a sugar cooky today.  Want to make the peanut butter cooky you put a Hershey kiss on after it's baked awhile.  And a peanut butter bar cooky & my favorite a coconut macaroon.  Who wasn't going to make many cookies.  Maybe I'll bring some over to Viola Seaquist.  I did last year so I will this year.  And Barb will fix a plate for Lynn. Yesterday Scott got one of my rolls & today he got 2 Spritz & 2 sugar cookies.  He likes them.

Fri. the 17th

Did you get a Christmas card from Gerald & Darla.  It is a picture of the white painted out hosue & it has a small flower box with red flowers.  There was a note & Darla said "write".  I did write & never got a reply to my last letter so gave up.  It's nice to get an answer.

We got an inch of snow overnite but we don't have very much but it is nice to have for Christmas.

I know you'll have a great Christmas.

P.S.  Which pkg. did the boys "peek" into!!!

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

Thank for the news article on the library open house & the picture of my handsome grandson, Andy.  What a heartbreaker -- I'm sure the girls think he's cool!  Same for Eddie when he is 16.

And thank you for the lovely fushia -- that doesn't look right but I can't find it in the dictionary, but you know what I mean.  It has double flowers.  Very pretty.  Another one hangs on the front porch & it is from Dale.   A yellow flower like a small petunia.  Barb gave me a plant for inside & one I think I can have for awhile as it doesn't take much water so I won't over water. Larry dug up the roses opposite the back door & planted 3 rose bushes that have blooms you can cut & they'll keep awhile in a vase.  We went to camp for supper Sun. nite.  We were on the deck & the weather was perfect.  We'd had storms so the creek was really running.  It was a nice time.  And thanks for the cards.  I'm a lucky mom!

Had my mammogram & the gals said "See you next year."  I don't think so.  Dr. Fino said I should have one, & so did Dr. McNett but I never followed thru.  Dr. Clifford gave me info & I tho't I'd better do it before my May appt.  Just made it.

This is Dale's late Tues.  He worked til 5:30 & then went to take a 3 hr. test to keep his accreditation.  Every few years they must take it.

The School  Board is having problems but ti has awakened a group in Warren to fight this. They don't want a tax hike; or a high school in Tidioute; & they want the new school finished for a grade school & not a middle school.  More fun.

I won't get my hair done this Fri.  Barb has to take 2 tests.

Gen called the other night.  She sounded good.  She wondered about Barb.  Don't think I mentioned this -- but I had a note from Ruth with Mim writing it for her.  Carole's daughter had a 2nd son & Mim & Tom were going to Alaska for 5 days.

Had a nice visit with Viola but her house was so warm I started coughing & my eyes teared.  Didn't stay long so I managed.

We'll celebrate Lar's birthday on Thurs.  Sun. we had steaks so it wasn't time for steaks so soon, & we have a lot of chicken & pork so it was decided to have hamburgers & pot. salad. The menus for birthdays it seems.  I'll make a carrot cake, Lar's favorite.  Sat nite we all are going out to eat at the Fernwood a little past the bridge going toward Clarendon.  On the left.

May 12

Yesterday Warren H. called & said he had a dentist appt. today & did I want to go to lunch. Naturally I said yes.  We ate at the Plaza.  I like it there & the food is good.  They had been in Cancun for a week & enjoyed it.  Another couple went with them.  Lots of good food & drinks.  Warm ocean water.  Sounds nice.  Anna had gained weight & the Dr. wasn't happy.

In my present bedroom the fan isn't noisy so I had it on low during the night.  It is warm for May.

I'm watching baseball in ESPN2 -- Braves at St. Louis & in the 4 inning St. L. leads 3-0. They lost last night.  Am I happy.  YES!!  How is Andy feeling these days when the Braves aren't much better than the Mets!

Today I showed Warren & Anna the info you sent me on the library work. They were impressed.  Warren asked if you got complaints on certain books people don't approve of.  I didn't know & said I'd ask.  Anna's cousin is a librarian in the Boston area & she has received complaints at times.  Against a certain book, etc.  I said you are in a more liberal area -- so close to Madison & the University.

Thurs, May 13

Larry is still mowing the lawn where Mr. Crossest used to live.  A couple from the Phila. area & want to move back to Warren.  He is a Boger, father Dr. Boger, a dentist.  They have to find jobs here so the house is empty & they asked Lar to continue the lawn work & trim.

After Mrs. Morelli died, they sold the house.  The wife tho't it was too small so they added on the empty lot on Redwood.  Lar was asked to submit a bid for yard work.  He starts soon. The bid was $5,000.00 & he got a down payment of $2,000.00 to buy shrubbery, etc.

Tuesday, May 4, 2004

Just walked to 5th to mail a letter for Dale.  I saw the letter & it gave me a reason to walk a bit.

Barb was to go on the 20th for kemo but when Dr. in Bradford heard that he said "No, she can't wait that long, so it will be 1:30 on Thurs this week.  He must really be concerned about the lump.

Fri. nite Lar & Dale moved furniture.  I'm in Barb's old room & she is in mine.  All her "stuff" fit in, & the lighter wood looks so good in that room.  Yesterday I finally got my personal stuff out of the closets -- still using shelves for blanket, etc. for storage.  She cleared out the closet in the little room so I have that.  My bed was covered & I went thru things & have 2 big bags to add to the pile already to g.  Some things were too big, others too old & should have gone long ago.  Maybe by fall there will be more.  Next will be Dale to clean out his closet. He said he has pants in there from his school days.  He likes to keep things like the rest of us.  Changing rooms has made such a difference for Barb.  The basketball & Barb just don't mix.  It's like red to a bull!!

Bert is a worry wart.  Barb said to me, you never worry.  Some things may concern me, but what's the use of worrying. It just upsets a person & can make them sick.

I'm glad the library Open House was so successful.  It must be even more interesting to work there now.

Barb & I each got Lar a gift certificate from Howe's True Value.  He shops there  lot & can get what he wants for his birthday.  It doesn't seem possible May is here already.  Soon you'll be making plans for you July party.

Guess my rest period is up so more late.

Wed the 5th 4 pm

I really was busy this aft & it feels good to sit.  Before lunch I made pie crust & set dinner rolls.  After lunch I started supper -- beef cubes -- then rolled out a pie crust, formed my roils  Oh yes I also made sugar cookies & put the dough in the fridge. Then I started baking, pie crust for a banana cream pie for Thus; the rolls & cookies.  By 4, all was cleaned up & put away.  So I really accomplished something today.  The reason I made sugar cookies is Viola Seaquist is home from the nursing home  & seeing I'm so close I feel like I should visit her. And I wan t to bring cookies.  If I get ambitious I might even make rolls.  Brian will enjoy them as I'm sure Viola isn't able to do much. I know they enjoyed the cookies & rolls at Christmas.  I'll see her on Fri. the 7th.  Set danish for her.

Thurs.  Barb saw the Dr. today & fist she has to have a battery of tests.  Starting next Wed the 12th  Fri A.M. she has to be there at 7:30 for tests.  They took blood today.  Barb's spirits are good.

More next week.

Saturday, March 20, 2004

Started another 1000 pc. puzzle.  Barb helped me finish the last one.

When you wrote about sports, you mentioned darts & softball.  You forgot one -- lifting the mug to your mouth!  Ha!Ha!  Those were your bachelor days.  You mended your ways after you met JoAnna.  Right?

It must be fun to live in an area where there are so many places to shop & to have a meal.

Wed & Thurs next week, the 24th and 25th, I think, Dale goes to Rochester for school.  Will leave Wed. A.M. at 5:30, stay overnite & be home Thurs. nite.  Next Wed. is the last time for Kim & Lar to come on Wed.  Soccer will be over.  Torey will be surprised & puzzled when Dale is gone.  Dale always feeds him "Beggin' Strips".

Sun. Mar 21.

Fran Decker hasn't been in church for several Sun.  I thought maybe she was in Fla.  I found out that she fell shoveling snow & broke her hip.  Nothing was in the bulletin or newsletter.  I was surprised & I've missed the Tues. A.M. Bible studies where I would have found out.  I have a card ready to mail & also one for Viola S. who is at Warren Manor.

Spring has arrived but you wouldn't know it.  Snow flurries & cold temps.  I'm ready for lighter clothing & being able to wear short sleeves.

Wisc. is playing Pitts -- just 1st period Pitts. is ahead but it is close.  I'll keep checking (now tied.  Go Wisc!)

I ordered pizza for supper & it should be here any minute.

Tues. March 23

Last nite I called Millie & she loves her move.  There is something going every evening.  She needed a Dr. & Linda went on the internet & found a Dr. in the area who would take new patients.  Millie got an appt for early June.  She found a shop to get her hair done each Fri. On Thurs. a company comes & they can order groceries, etc. to be delivered.  I'm glad she is happy.

Dale doesn't go to school until Thurs & Fri. so he will be home so Torey will be happy.  We sit around the table & talk & I know Dale enjoys that.

I finally got to go to the Tues A.M. Bible Study.  I didn't know what to bring so I made a rice pudding & 2 others had the same idea.  I like it so it will get eaten.  It doesn't interest Barb & Dale.  We still had a good variety of food, but no coffee.  There was no coffee in the cupboard so we just had water.  No one missed the coffee.

When I got home I made dinner rolls & cleaned up.  Then started supper & now I'm sitting in my chair, enjoying TV.  Tues. nite V has good detective stories on the Learning Channel & Court TV.  Forensic Files, etc.

Do you remember Bud Carlson, Harriet Carlson Johnson's twin brother.  He died in Fla. They've lived there for many years.  He fell & broke several bones in his back & the trauma was too great.  Doug is your age & Tom is Lar's age.  Doug is in Fla. & Tom is in the area. Before Dad retired, he married Tom & his wife.

Don't think I mentioned St. Paul has new green & blue paraments.  The green will be used, I think, for Pentecost season & the blue for Advent & Christmas.  I like the blue color.  I should know my church calendar!  I know we're in the Lenten Season & Palm Sun. & Easter are soon here.  8 days & it will be April.

Thurs. nite

Lar & Kim were 15 min. late tonite.  Kim's brother Paul is in jail for 6 mo.  He got in trouble with the law trying to protect his cousin who drinks & uses dope.  Paul is no angel & Kim thinks this might help him.  He called at 6 pm & can talk for 15 min. after reversing the charges.  It's sad for Kim but she will get thru it.  She feels the responsibility for her brother. He has been married twice & divorced both times.  He has another girl friend & Kim has spoken to her on the phone.  We'll see if she (girlfriend) will see him thru this experience. Some need to learn the hard way & we stand by them, whatever.

We had pork loin tonite & I made a chocolate cake for dessert.  Wanted something different. Also set danish today -- don't like to let them get too low as I enjoy one with coffee & I use them for shacks one week for Dale.

Thurs. 3/25

Dale was up at 4:30 A.M. & left at 5:35 for Rochester for 2 days of school.  I was up at 5 A.M.  After he left I made my rolls & got them iced.  Had my shower, got dressed & stripped my bed & started a load of wash.  9 A.M. I had my hair done, 1 day early as Sheila, her husband & 2 other couples are going to Atlantic City for the weekend.  When I got home, I put the sheets in the dryer, started another load.  Made my bed up clean & looked over the paper again.  After lunch I did a little ironing.  Then it was free time for me.  Had a brief nap & now I'm watching golf on ESPN.   Player's Tour & both Tiger & Davis Love are off to a bad start.  I like to watch this course, it has some interesting greens.

Dale was suppose to go on Wed & Thurs  but it was changed to Thurs & Fri.  He went alone so I didn't have to prepare a lunch.  He has more money to spend seeing he isn't married.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Jamestown.  First Barb will work at Bert's -- we'll leave at 11 A.M. & have to be back by 3 pm as Barb picks Scott up after school & helps him with his homework.

Barb took her bike in for a checkup -- she hopes to start riding again.

When you get the Warren paper, you'll see Warren has a lot of plans for the future.  I hope they all come true.  Something needs to happen.

Time for a cup of coffee.

Sunday, February 15, 2004

First Sun. racing of the year at Daytona & I'm watching it.  Dale is at Sam B's watching it & some other guys.  Randy Swanson picked Dale up.

Looking out the window one sees blue skies & sunshine but it is deceiving as it is cold out. Suppose to be minus degrees tonite.

When I got up this A.M. the question was do I go to church this A.M. or do I stay home.  I went to church & glad I did.  Lois Himes has cancer & is in a wheel chair & she & Junior are in church every Sun. so I said to myself there is no reason for you to stay home.  It was a good service.

Many crashes in the race today & it affects many cars as they take other cars out with them.

We went to Jamestown last Fri.  I found a top I liked & got it.  More expensive but 25% off. We had lunch at the Red Lobster, Barb's favorite.

We also stopped at WalMart as Barb wanted to look at yarn -- she found some.  I got some birthday & get well cards to have on hand.

Viola Seaquist has been in the hospital & now is in a nursing home.  She is 94 years old so it is critical.

This week I have to get a blood test & the 26th I see the Dr.

We didn't get our USA Today on Fri & it wasn't in the mail box on Sat.  No mail on Mon so I doubt we'll ever see it.  It's the puzzle I like but I always check out each section.

Barb & I each got a puzzle at Walmarts & I started mine yesterday.  It's a pretty one with bright colors & it is going together pretty fast.

Tues. the 17th is a busy day in Wi. with all the hype for the Dem. race to become the nominee for pres.  Barb has switched her loyalty to Kerry.  Sounds as if he is the lucky one.  Dean shot himself in the foot.

I've recently discovered the "Viewpoint" section of the Buffalo Sun.  paper.  It has good articles.  Dale likes to read that section as well.

Mon. Feb 16

Yesterday I watched the Daytona race & golf switching between the 2.  John Daly won in golf & we were rooting for him.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Daytona race & we were rooting for him. The Sat. Busch car race was rained out so they finished it this A.M. & Dale Jr. won that race.  Dale is happy the faces are back.  He said he'd never go to Sam's again to watch the race as it was too smoky to suit him. Both Sam & Nancy smoke & I'm not sure about Randy.

I used a new recipe yesterday for potatoes & they were good.  Peel potatoes, dip them in melted butter, then crumbs & bake them in a pan in the oven til done, almost an hr.  They are good & I had oven fried chicken & broc. for veg. with them.  I might have the same menu Wed nite when Lar & Kim come over.  I'm putting "Pammed" foil in the bottom of pan so I don't have to scrub them.  Works for fudge & bar cookies.  Anything to make cooking easier.

Tues aft. 17th

What a wonderful surprise to read about your award from the WLA.  I know you worked hard on the committee you chaired & how nice to receive the award.  I'm very proud of you, Paul. You have made use of your God given abilities.  And the newspaper's article on the library is nice to read.  A feather in your cap to make this come true, under your capable leadership.

Reading your letter, I remember we didn't stay up til you all got home from dates or just "out".  Maybe we should have!

The article you wrote (quoted) about cookbooks & food is interesting.  When I'm just sitting & don't know what to do, I'll get a cookbook & go thru it.  It seems something often takes my eye that I've missed before.  Depends upon my mood, I guess.

Dale is starting to eat earlier so often he eats when it's ready so I don't  have to fix a plate for him. Many times Barb fixes her own mail, esp., if she doesn't want what I've fixed.

Thurs. Dale has to go to Rochester for school, along with Mark Peterson.  He is the son of Mr. P at Beaty, the shop teacher.  Now they can't go the day before but make it a one day trip.  They'll have to leave at 5 A.M. so that will make a long day.  Next week they go for a 2 day trip so they'll have to stay overnite.

I can remember from the "dark days" of high school how the girls always had their eyes on the athletes & wishing they could catch his eye & snag him.  A difficult job.  It was fun to dream!  Now Andy is the athlete taking the girl's eye.

This is Dale's late day -- I made veg. soup to go with deli beef sandwiches.  Not ready made. Tomorrow I'm making strawberry pie for dessert.  Will use frozen berries for the filling that pours over fresh berries.  Think spring!

Benson's grandson is in his first year of college & they are still going to his meets.  He runs & is good oat it.  The granddaughter is a senior & she also runs on her college team.  She goes to Allegheny College & he goes to Lock Haven.

This A.M. I went to get a blood test & the info wasn't there.  Dr. McNett ordered it but since I have a new Dr. I don't' know what happened   I asked, at the time, are you sure it will be there & they said "yes".  They called from the hosp. to the new Dr. but I decided not to wait around.  I see the Dr. next week & will get a sheet from him for the info, that's for sure.

Gen called last nite -- she tired for 3 nites & finally got me*.  She always calls John - "Ed". Ed does this for her, etc.   Millie sold her house so she'll be moving.  I'll have to call for more info.

*It's her dialing -- she misses & gets the wrong number.

Sounds like Ed is growing up.  Would be fun to see him with his friends.

Wed A.M.

Called Millie last nite -- got her new address & she hopes to be living there by the middle of March.  The house is sold but she's waiting for the money & then she'll be sure. She deeded the house to her children & they'll get the money.  Millie said she has enough to go on from pensions & S.S.  She worked at Steiger's 38 yrs & she gets a pension even tho they went out of business.

Barb was all excited last nite with Kerry's headquarters in Middleton.  She kept watching in as she would see JoAnna in the crowd.  More candidates will be left by the highway.

This A.M. I made the strawberry pie & started sweet rolls.  After my time out, I have to dust downstairs, etc.  It's a sunny day making one feel good & ambitious.

Later.  The potatoes went over big tonite.  Lar really liked them & he was the one I wasn't sure of.

Dale & Mark P. decided to take a lunch for tomorrow & Dale said he'd have some of the fruit salad I made for dinner.  But just a little was left so I added an orange & a couple of strawberries to it so there is salad for him.  I'll make a ham sandwich in the A.M.  He has juice & chips ready to go.

Kim didn't have her glasses so Lar read the award article aloud.  Such a nice article. Reading aloud sounded so good.

Saturday, December 20, 2003

It's almost 7 pm our time so Ed's party is still going strong.  Forgot to ask -- any girls in the group.

I'm watching & have been watching football.  Was rooting for Atlanta (underdog) & they beat Tampa Bay by 2 points.  Exciting finish but T. B. couldn't do it.  Now halftime is just about over for Minn. vs. K.C. & Mn is ahead.  Barb said your Green Bay fans wouldn't like this but I want Mn. to win!  At 8:30 New England is at the Jets & it will be cold.

Barb is cleaning out the freezer because it needs organization!  She's the organizer.

Dale got a 900.00 check from work.  Profit sharing & a week's pay + a day for not taking the 3rd week of vacation.

Barb's T.V. wasn't working.  Lar & Dale looked it over & came to the conclusion something was overheating & caused snow.  On Fri. we went to Warren Sears (which has relocated & has a larger store) & she got a Sylvania 19" with a DVD.  Now she will be wanting DVD's. Next time we go to Erie we'll go to Best Buy & check it out.

Millie's Christmas card said she can get her place at the retirement home next April & she will put her house up for sale in Jan.  I think they bot the house in the 50s & should get triple what they paid for it.  It's been kept up in good condition.  But it is small.

Christmas Eve Day.

I backed baked 3 batches of rolls today.  Dale took 42 for their pot luck lunch.  I took 4 rolls plus cookies to Viola Seaquist.  She was napping but Brian Scarpo was there to receive them.

Your pkg. came on Mon. & the gifts are by the tree.  With the decorations, tree, gifts, etc. I know it is Christmas time but it just seems to have come around too fast.

Heard from Carolyn & Jim so I have their new address, & also heard from Mim & Tom.   I haven't hard from 2 families in Auburn.  One is an older couple & they haven't been that well but the other couple re around 20 yrs. younger than I so it makes me wonder what happened.  I usually hear from them early in Dec.  My list grows smaller each year.

Our snow melted with rain & warmer temps.  But we are suppose to get snow tonite & tomorrow.

I made doggy bones for Torey but formed them as bones as I didn't get Kim's bone cutter. Cheese, whole wheat flour, oleo & a little milk & garlic (dogs are suppose to like garlic) & easy to make.  Tonite will tell if he likes them.

Christmas Day evening  Everything is quiet & my work is done.  Each Christmas Kim & Lar are invited to her friend Nancy's Mother for lobster flown in from Maine & she said it's so good.  So next year they plan to order some for our Christmas Eve dinner.  The little ones I get are nothing compared to the real thin.  They come packed in ice overnite & it is just the lobster meat.  You'd just have to heat it up.

We'll see your gift to Kim Sun. nite as we are invited over for dinner.  Lar got a $100.00 gift certificate from the Crary Home & it is from BiLo.  They prepare dinners & they have a Prime Rib dinner with stuffed baked pot., green bean casserole & rolls that Kim will get.  I know when Warren & Anna H. have Thanksgiving for their family they get 2 turkey dinners & those dinners include pumpkin pie & they are very satisfied.  If it is good, I'd like to do that next year -- the prim rib -- as it is a lot to get 2 dinners & a breakfast.  Tonite wasn't bad as I had Uncle Ben's wild rice & it is very good.  Fresh green beans & fruit salad.  Cookies for dessert.

Thank you for all your nice presents.  But you were too generous with a $100.00 gift cert. Barb's writing table is to nice.  Kim & Lar gave me a paper shredder.  I got a cheap one & clogged it up by using too much paper.  Dale couldn't fix it so I'll be more careful with this one.  Dale got me a plastic upright container with 7 drawer -- 3 lge ones & 4 smaller ones. I'll try to fit it in my bedroom to get rid of some of the clutter.  Dale got several Dale Earnhardt books -- 2 I got him , 2 put out by Nascar -- the yearbook &^ another one on D.E. Walden Books had some books of D. E. & I got one that told about his family.  He reads a lot now. 2 nice sweaters & 2 sweat shirts.  One like I gave you for your birthday & the one I gave Andy.  Also gave one to Lar.  They are nice because they are la little dressier if that is the correct word.

Scott gave Barb a Christmas Golfing Santa like JoAnna's & she gave one to Kim.  We all got lots of nice gifts and we thank you for yours.  Kim liked the tablecloth I gave her.  She said we'll see it Sun nite.

All in all it's been a nice Christmas season & now we look to 2004.  Seems like we were just looking forward to 2000.

It was good to talk to you today.  Your family room sounds so nice.  I like the neutral colors.

Pa. finally decided on a budget & the gov will sign it so they schools will be getting money that was due months ago.

I've been listening to C.D. & it's very relaxing.  Barb also got a "snow baby" figurine from Scott & family.

The dishwasher is just about thru & I turn it off & don't do the dry cycle to save on electricity. It's very hot & they dry OK.

Soon bedtime -- did sleep in til 8 A.M.

Sunday, January 6, 2003

This would have been our 57th anniversary.

It is another snowy day with enough snow to shovel.  Our neighbor Dan N. is clearing our walks.  We are lucky.  Guess I'll have to make rolls or cookies as a thank you.  Started rolls today as tomorrow is Bob's birthday & he & Scott love them.  Watched 2 Perry Mason stories on Hallmark TV.  At 4 there will be Murder She Wrote on A&E.  Then football.  We're having steak, baked pot., salad & pumpkin pie.

Bert took her cat to the vet as it was sick & throwing up all over the rugs.  It has aids plus other problems & should be put to sleep.  Bert didn't expect that & is very unhappy.  It will be sometime during this coming week.  The other cat ran away & never came back.  It also has ringworm & the vet told Bert she should boil her sheets.

Viola Seaquist was having dizzy spells & when Brian (grandson) came home from work, he called 911 & she was taken to the hospital.  That was Tues. & she stayed til Fri.  She can't go out in this weather but  Elsie Y. said she is doing OK.  Naturally she has to take medication now.  Brian came back from Calif & a failed marriage & lives with his grandma & works at Blairs.

Just made your marinade sauce & put the steaks in it.  I copies that recipe but never did your secret hamburgers recipe & I'm sure you wrote some of the ingredients some time back.  I usually add Worcestershire or steak sauce, onions, Salt & pepper when I make them.

In church this A.M. they announced we will have an organist twice a month starting in Feb.  Don't know who it is.  Not too many to call on in our small area.

Cindy DiChano is active in the Historical Society & at church they found some old pictures & gave them to the historical society so St. Paul is in Jan Stepping Stones, using old pictures & the bios that Cindy has been doing.  She had copies to buy & I got one.  Didn't you subscribe to Stepping Stones.  If not, I'll save it for you.  Just read thru Stepping Stones & it is most interesting.  Maybe I should become a member.

This past week when I awoke & looked t the clock it was (so I thought) it was time to get up.  I got things ready & it was 20 to what I thought was seven.  So I went up to see why Dale wasn't up.  Because, he said, it's only 20 to 6 A.M.  I misread the clock.  So I sat in the chair & dozed.  Yesterday I bo't a clock with larger numerals that are easier to see so that won't happen again.

Thurs. Jan. 30th

I'd better finish this letter as it gets mailed tomorrow.  We're having a turkey breast roast tonite & it is smelling so good.  BiLo had nice strawberries so I made a strawberry pie.

Tomorrow I go to the bank & get money for Feb. budget.  The months fly by.  We're planning to go to Jamestown as Barb doesn't have to pick Scott up.  We'll leave around 11 A.M. & eat lunch there.

The telephone rang Tues. nite at 9:45 pm but it stopped before I got there.  Figured it was Gen so I called back & she had called.  She doesn't realize the time but I was still watching TV.  She didn't want or say anything special.  She still talks about getting the Dr. permission to drive again.  I'm sure it will never happen.

One of the gals I worked with at Beaty, a widow & children not in Warren, has Alzheimer's & she is now at the former Penn Laurel as she can't take care of herself.

We had more snow this week & cold weather  Pittsburgh has had snow most every day in Jan. & the coldest winter since 1994.  I'm sure it is the same for us, only not as many snow days.

Better check my roast.

Millie called last nite to let me know Edith (Ed's sister) has leukemia & it is pretty bad.  She was in the hospital & got staph & that hasn't helped.  She is getting chemo & will most likely lose her hair.  Gen doesn't really know or care what is going on.  When Millie talked to her , she said she was mad, really mad.  Reason:  Dr. told her she can't drive.  So she is stuck there, esp. now that Edith is sick.  She asked Millie if Millie thought she was made, meaning crazy.  Millie asked if she talked to the Dr. & she doesn't ask or tell anything about herself-- tired all the time, no ambition to do anything.

Bert told Barb she called Mrs. Africa to go out to eat.  She couldn't because Mrs. A said she gets sick riding in cars.  Bert wanted to get Chinese & go over & eat there.  That couldn't be done either.  Only one person knows her problem & she is sworn to secrecy.  It's probably something like Gen & she doesn't want anyone to know.  She's all alone in a big house.  How lucky I am to have Barb & Dale.

Received info this A.M. from Carolyn about the Nelson get together.  Sounds good.  We'll talk it over with Lar & Kim.  We're back to Thurs. nite when they come over.

I'm using the crock pot for supper.  Swiss steak.  It smells good.

It is a warm day for Sept.  We got about 2" of rain over the weekend & it sure perked up the grass.

Last Fri. we went to Jamestown & I got a sweater set.  2 pieces as one.  Black sleeves & back & the sweater sections in front are a red, black & gold mixture -- like a stripe but not really one.  Does that sound mixed up?  I like it.  Saw one in the Christmas catalog.  I'll order for later on.  They are pastel colors.

Finally finished the puzzle I've had on the card table for 2 weeks.

Viola Seaquist wasn't in church last Sunday & I wondered why.  She was in one of the Carolinas with her daughter whose husband died.  He was in an auto accident & died of a heart attack in the hospital.  That is pretty sad --- a double whammy.

The weather has been so nice Barb is continuing her bike riding.  She now rides 15 or 20 miles depending on how much time she has.  She reached her 1000 mile goal & is adding to it.

I'm looking at a pretty apricot colored rose from the bushes we planted.  It is in a glass bowl. Hope they make it over the winter.  Larry wasn't sure how well they would do in our limited garden area.

Thurs A.M.

I'm taking a time out for my coffee.  It is warm & humid.  I want to finish this letter & Rose has a Sun. birthday so I'll get a card ready to mail.

I got new books last Fri. so I'm sure I haven't written about them. Another Catherine Coulter book which I enjoyed.  In a book review I noticed the author Fannie Flagg so I looked for her books & took Coming Attractions but it didn't attract me to read it.  She has a new one out. The author's name is easy to remember.

I've been memorizing some favorite hymns that are in a small supplemental hymnal.  So far:  How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace, Blessed Assurance, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms & the next one will be Shall We Gather at the River.  All verses.  I pick a certain word in a line to help me remember the phrase & if I can't recall it I'm lost.  But I keep at it until it's in my mind.  Have to keep my brain working at least 50% -- HA HA.

I made a pecan pie for dinner.  Pies go over best for dessert.  Pecan, apple, banana cream, pumpkin & if there a 5 Thursdays maybe I'll make my favorite lemon meringue.  Also I like graham cracker cream.

The Schman man comes today so I have to get the money ready for the order.

Oh yes, finally Dale has one sunflower in bloom.

Eddie's pictures are so good & it was fun to see the series of Andy pitching.  Nice form.

Saturday, August 25, 2001

Got your letter today.  I'm out  on the porch starting a letter with my coffee cup close at hand & some sweets.  Sweets I shouldn't eat but not enough will power.

Wed nite Viola Seaquist came over & we had a nice visit.  I asked about the meeting at church they had when we were gone.  I guess I shouldn't have.  The congregation is divided.  At the beginning Passingers were very close with Gary & family & now they're against him.  Son Tim P. even went to the Synod office -- they want him gone now!  The big thing everything is so secretive & he doesn't do visitation.  And if he visits the nursing homes, etc. he doesn't offer to pray.  Bernie Bloom is in a nursing home & Irene was there when the pastor visited.  Irene wanted to ask him to pray but she chickened out.  A sick or shut in member shouldn't have to ask a pastor to offer a prayer.  That is part of his calling.  We have about 600 members on the roll must be some deadwood) & not even 1/4 attend church & the Sun. School is pitiful. It upsets me but all we can do is to pray for our church.

Kim is still upset.  The gym is her space so when she teaches Health it is in various class rooms.  This year due to a change in the health class curr currucillum cure curriculum (looked it up & still can't remember the correct spelling but I hope you can figure it out they are uniting the 9th & 10th grade classes (it's for 9th grade) so Kim will have 44 students & no classroom will hold that many kids.  The job has been posted & a teacher at Abraxas has applied for it.  A big guy who was in sports.   Kim says hire him as maybe his size will help keep the kids in order.  A few have applied for Wrrn Hi job.  Kim hopes one fellow who teaches grade school phy ed will retire next year & she would apply for the job.  She has some seniority & it might be enough.  That's her dream.

The new Readers Digest has some interesting articles esp. one on back pain & one on road rage.

It was interesting to read the letters in response to the article on foods for men & women.  Barb fixes herself a tofu meal.  Now she has gotten a food powder with tofu she adds to her smoothies.  She has them for lunch.

Barb got her pictures & there are 2 of Eddie that are so good.  One in Middleton where was Andy when Barb was taking pictures) & one at the lake.  We're getting some reprints.  A cute one of Boxer also.

Fri. we went to Jamestown -- Lakewood Mall.  Then to Bemus Point & the Italian Fisherman.  We sat on the porch & viewed Lake Chautauqua.  It's in the vicinity of The Surf Club & Barb is familiar with that!   I had a fish sandwich & Barb a salad.

We stopped at WalMart & I got a crochet hook like Joyce had so maybe I'll get started on something.  It has a hook on both ends & you use double yarn.

We've had a little rain but not enough so they're asking people to conserve & save water -- don't keep the water running when brushing teeth -- shorter showers, full loads of dishes & clothes.  That's not hard.  It's the people with wells who suffer the most.

Walked over town this A.M. to the farmer's mkt & got 2 qts blueberries.  Maybe I'll make a blueberry pie.  I made a peanut butter pie after lunch.  It's so easy & you freeze it.  Dale likes them.

I'm ready for fall & to wear clothes with collars & not feel too hot.  Or clothes made of little heavier material.  Haven't bo't any thing new for fall -- haven't seen anything I really like in my price range.  They say plaids are coming back & I have 2 plaid skirts, several years old, & I'd like new tops for them.  Feels like nap time.  More later.

KMart changed their shelves -- different aisles & some of them are not full.  I needed bags for the compactor & they didn't have any so Dale went to Sears & got a pkg. for me.  I'm lost without it.

I'm watching the Mets vs. San. Fran. & they have a big crowd for the game.  It will be on ESPN Sun nite & again it's on TV on Mon. NY channel WB 11.

On the Penn State channel we watched the Auction, no, not the auction, the Antique Roadshow & it was from Madison.  Lots of goodies that would bring dollars.  At the beginning of the show they showed the State Capitol & surrounding areas & Dale said "I've seen that."

Don Glendenning is in the booth with Seaver & Thorne & they're talking "old times" & it's fun to hear them. They were talking about the Pirates & their great teams -- winning teams.  He was on the '69 Mets team that won the series.

Today Barb wanted to go to the bank at the Mall & I went along & went into the shoe store.  Got a pair of Dexter shoes on sale.  In brown (only color) & haven't had a pr. of brown shoes for years.  Thicker soles -- good walking shoe & they are so comfortable.  And they were only $29.98.  Couldn't pass them up & I'm glad I got them.  Slip ons.

Sun the 26th

I think today we heard a rebuttal at church.  Gary didn't preach on the gospel lesson but form Jeremiah, when he was upset by his followers.  It was like he was comparing his situation to Jeremiah -- the frustrations, the people, etc.  But I'm sure it didn't help, only flamed the fire.  It sounded like he means we have to take him until he decides to retire.  Also 3 council members resigned:  Patty Phillips, Lisa Passinger (Tim's wife) & Patty Morelli.  All are faithful members.  I never dreamed it was this bad -- you two are my sounding board -- the others aren't that interested.  If you're tired of it, you can skip over it!

Each one of us is watching golf on 3 different TVs.  What an exciting time -- Tiger & Jim Furyk are on their 7th hole to break a tie.,  Finally it's over & Tiger wins.

Mon A.M. the 27th

I have to mail some letters so I'll bring this to a close.

Saturday, August 18, 2001

Last Wed. I heard the ambulances go up Conewango Ave -- an accident & a sad one for St. Paul.  Gerald "Mac" Young, working on patching a road, was hit by a car.  died on the operating table in Erie.  69 years old. Sons are Craig, Roberts -- Larry's age group.   Mike Brindis, Larry's friend, grew up as Craig's friend.  So Lar & Mike anted to go to the funeral home & I went with them. We went right at 2 pm & already a large group.  Funeral this A.M. at church.  He will be missed at church as he was one you could depend on.  Craig has 5 children & lives in Homestead, Fla.  Robert married Molly Ristau (Dale's age) & they have 2 children & live in Hudson, Ohio.  Mary, naturally, is in shock & it will be difficult for her to have to lose her husband in such a way, never expecting it to happen so fast.

Had a letter from Millie & she had a good summer.  visited Linda at the Cape for a week.  they saw a play.  Went to tea at an English Garden & had cucumber sandwiches, scones, strawberries, & individual chocolate cheese cakes.  Sounds good.

Also they went on a house & garden tour.  Beautiful homes, lawns & gardens overlooking the ocean.

Allan had a family pool party & Millie enjoyed that.

She also had Gen & Edith over for lunch one afternoon.  So she keeps busy & takes good care of herself.

We went to the Mall but Barb forgot her checkbook.  She isn't feeling that good -- upset stomach. I got my pictures from KMart & a few other things.  Now I can see myself as others see me & I know I'm getting old!  Pictures are for the young.  The Starks were missing from the family scenes.  The family pictures are good.  I only got 1 set as you were taking pictures.

It was a big funeral.  Parking lot filled & the one side of Division as well.

The Braves started winning after losing a few.  But not the Mets.  They beat Milwaukee & I guess that knocked them out as they haven't won since.  A lost cause.  Boston fired their manager, but not the Mets.

This weekend is Kim's high school reunion.  Last nite they had a get together at the K of C.  This A.M. golf & Kim & a friend would play.  Tonite dinner, dance at the Club by the library whose name I can't recall.  It came!  The Conewango Club.

Now it's Sun. the 19th.

As I was going to church this A.M. Lar came by walking Torey.  I had to give him some attention & I walked away leaving Torey wondering what was going on.  Usually, when he see Grandma, he gets something to eat.

Yesterday I made banana bread using a new recipe; one that called for orange juice.  It is good.

Vi Seaquist always said she was coming over for a cup of coffee.  At church we often talked about it & today I set a time.  She will come over Wed nite.  We'll have juice & cookies as I think she prefers not to have coffee at nite.  I'll have to decide what cookies to make.  My "Taste of Home" magazines have recipes on peaches & I want to try making peach cobbler & plan to make it for Thurs nite when Lar & Kim come for dinner.  There is also a recipe for peach bread that sounds good -- similar to banana bread.

Monday the 20th.

Got your letter today & was glad to hear that Larry is home in Two Rivers.  Things will move along now he is back in familiar territory.  No place like home. It will be hard to hold him down but he'll know his strengths.

Beaty football team practices in the mornings.  If the doors are opened I can hear the whistle blowing.  I think of Andy, then.

We've had a few drops of rain but are waiting for a real downpour -- it's very dry & the grass is brown.

Dale had his eye exam & there wasn't much change so he only needed 1 contact as the one he has is still OK.   He's getting regular glasses as well.

Kim just left -- she spent 3 hours at school today & is a little upset.  The other Phy Ed teacher resigned to take a year's job teaching at Edinboro.  He's working on his Doctorate & hopes to teach at the college level & couldn't pass up this chance even tho it's just for a year.  It makes it hard for Kim-- this will be the third time for her to "break in" a teacher.  And they're changing her schedule so she'll be teaching all the Health classes & only 2 gym classes & that doesn't make her happy.  They haven't posted the job yet & it is open for 2 weeks, then the interviews so it will be awhile before they hire a teacher, so it will be a substitute if they can find one.  So I guess Kim isn't looking forward to school next week.  She said as soon as there is an opening in Warren, she'll apply for it.

Larry & Kim are going to Erie tomorrow just to get away.  There are still some things she wants to get for school.

Andy's birthday is coming up -- I'll need suggestions for his birthday.

Now it's Wed A.M. 6& I'd better bring this to a close & get it on its way.

All is well with us.

Sunday, March 25, 2001

I'm not sure of which week you're visiting in Texas.  If you're gone the letter will be waiting for you.

Barb is busy with the TV remote.  Reason:  Nascar racing, men's skating world's finals, Pittsburgh hockey & tennis.  As of now I'm watching Nascar racing but at 2:30 I'll change to golf to see how Tiger Woods is doing.  He climbed to 2nd place after a slow start.

Last Mon it was just Hollertzs, Bensons, and me.  We had a great time; Five Forks is a nice place & the buffet very good.  It was a beautiful day for a drive.

Fri. aft. Barb & I went to Jamestown.  I got a card for Arlene Hornstrom's birthday & I wrote a note to enclose in her card.  I found a short sleeved sweater at Sears that I liked.  We almost didn't' go into Sears but I wanted to use the rest room.  As we entered Barb looked at blouses & found 2 she liked.  I looked around & thanks to another customer who was looking at the sweater, I noticed it.  They were on piles on a shelf, not out where you could really see them.  I really like it & bot it.

Viola Seaquist told me today she will be 90 this year.  She still drives in Warren & is in church every Sun. & active.  It's not bad to be going on 90 if you are active & have your mind.

Forgot to say Bensons have a new Dodge van.  It is so nice & rides well.  Navy blue.  This summer they'll stay home.  It is hard for Pat to walk.  The past few summers they went to Sweden; then Norway: & last summer Germany.  Also an Alaskan cruise.

When Dale went back to work on Thurs. he had to check a transmission on a new van.  He got it out & the reason was a bad part.  He had to put it back together so they could get credit from the Co.  Then he had to take a transmission out of another new van & put it in the first van.  When they order & get a new transmission he'll have to put it back into the 2nd van.

Once when we went to Synod at Greenville, Warren H. got us to skip the aft. session & we went to Sharon & had lunch at the Quaker Steak & Lube.  An interesting place to eat but we didn't have time for any other sightseeing.

Dale said I could use his computer but I don't have much desire yet.  He is still learning about the computer himself.  But I don't think the E Book would interest me.  I like to sit in different places to read like the front porch in the summer.  And i like to walk to the library & look thru the books.  Sometimes I even find a new author.  It sounds like quite a process to learn & conquer.

I got a new jigsaw puzzle I'm working on.  It's calling me now!

Mon AM.  It's really snowing.  Barb will mail.

Monday, October 3, 1999

It's a cloudy, cool day but it didn't stop me from doing my work.  The first of the week I have more energy but it lags toward the end of the week.

Nancy, Kim's friend is not a good housekeeper & her mother-in-law is just the opposite.  This week her in-laws are coming so she asked Barb to clean 3 hours on Wed.  Her regular cleaning person & her friend will clean 2 days.  Nancy said her mother-in-law would know Nancy didn't do it & it will cost her over $100.00 to get things in order.  She has 4 daughters but they haven't been trained to pick up after themselves & are no help to clean a little.

Betty Casey wants me to go out to lunch tomorrow - Tues.

The CVS new store is going up fast.  The store on 2nd Ave. will close on Nov. 1st.  Sounds like they want to be opened before the holidays.

Soon lunch time but I wanted to get a start.  My book is so book it is hard to put it down.  Got 3 books on Sat.  Read one on Sat, another on Sun - both easy reading & started on the 3rd.  This is a longer book & I can't skip over parts of it as in some books.  If they're too "wordy" or such.

Now it's Tues A.M.  What about those Mets.  Nobody (except me & a few others) wanted them to win.  It was a great game.  But they play Arizona & that will be a battle, esp. when Johnson is their starter.  Oh well, at least they got to the playoffs.  Some expect Ariz. t5o be the N. L. winner.  I'll root for them if it comes to that.

Barb likes to sleep in - I like to get my work done in the morning.  At 8:30 I was cleaning my room - dusting so no noise yet.  She didn't get up so I went downstairs & vacuumed & made noise.  Still not up so I went upstairs & started to clean the bathroom.  Finally up & went downstairs.  It's 9:30 so I guess she isn't working today.  Bert doesn't come home til the 16th so I guess Barb thinks she can take time off.  Wonder if Barb could ever hold a "regular" job.  But I'm not changing my cleaning times after all these years.  Just a little chance to get it off my chest.  Don't care to make waves.

I'm not going out to lunch until Thurs.  Betty called to change it.  Better for me, too.

In Sept. I completely forgot LCW.  Told Viola Seaquist I'd be there.  Then I remembered the Mets were on so I stayed home.  They were going to tie a quilt & only so many can do that.

You must have used your new furnace by now.  How's it going.

Dale is looking to the future & thinking about finding a house with a 2-car garage so he'll have a place to work on cars.  Also a house that needed to be updated.  He's talked to Larry about it.  That would be good for Dale & a good investment.  I'm sure he could get a loan & has money saved.

I just have to sign the dded & it will belong to you four "kids".  I'm glad that's over & it's the last thing to be done.  Everything is in order.

Did you notice in the Wrrn. paper Warren Hi has a good girls' cross country team.  One of Wrrn's girls always comes in first & Benson's (Mt. Jewett) granddaughter comes in 2nd.  Both are seniors so there is no hope for Bensons to see a winner.  They go to Kane Hi.

It's 10 A.M. &  I need to get a shower & cleaned up.

Bills are winning - Barb is happy.

Steelers are losing - Dale unhappy.

That's how it goes in sports.

Friday, February 21, 1997

This will be a lazy day. Next week will be busy as our 6 friends come for lunch on Thurs. Have the menu planned & will get the house in order. Will have the same meal at nite when Lar & Kim come over. All of a sudden Torey is afraid of Dale - it must be the uniform - someone must have scared the god & now he barks at Dale & it makes Dale feel bad. Before he always went to Dale.

Today at 10 A.M. an electrician is coming about a new outlet box so we won't need fuses anymore.  We also need some new lines for more power when Dale uses the elec. tools.  He wants more power in the garage.  I can't use the microwave & the elec. roaster at the same time without blowing a fuse.

And I ordered new flooring for the kitchen.  Sent 1/2 the cost for the order & will pay the rest when it comes.  Next I need to call about getting the porch painted.  Dale said he'd do the garage windows & big door.  He already did the side door.  So the house will look nice on the outside.  Thanks to Edna.

We've had spring weather but it will change by the weekend.  The snow is just about gone.

Paula Carey was back again for an interview at Northwest Savings.  He has a job but needs to pass Pa Bar Exams.  They even looked at a house.  Lar & Kim ate at Jamie's last Fri nite & Paula & her husband came in & they talked.  Kim wonder why they want to come here - thinks Paula has outgrown Warren.  I think she wants to please her parents.

Do you remember Viola Seaquist - her daughter Betty Ann 59 yrs. died of cancer, due to smoking.  She had moved to Calif. 8 yrs ago to be with her children - 3 of them.  Last Sat they had a Memorial Service at church - 1 1/2 hrs & very different.  Planned by her kids.  They took her death hard.  Viola was in Calif. to help at the end.  They paid to have their pastor here for the service & he stayed at Viola's.  She had a houseful & she is 85 yrs & active.  A good group was there.  I attended the service.

Now I'm dressed, breakfasts are over.  There is a load in the washer & in the dryer.  Paid a few bills & now I'm drinking a 2nd cup of coffee.

Last nite we had halibut I got from Schwans & it was good.  Yesterday I got chicken on a roll - they sound good.  8 in a box.  Wanted to try their chicken meals but he didn't have any.  I'll get them in 2 weeks.  Their froz. peas are delicious.  Even Dale agreed & he isn't that keen on peas.  My orders are getting larger.  They are a little higher in price but since we don't eat out anymore that justifies the extra in my mind.

We called Stella & she is happy to be settled again.  Tried to call Ruth & then forgot to try again.  Maybe I'll connect this weekend.

Did I tell you Barb had more problems with her period.  She got a birth control shot the Dr tho't might help and it has.  She had a pap smear & blood test & all is well.  No cancer & blood O.K.

Should write to Gen so will bring this to an end.  When can  we expect the boys visit during the summer.  One sure thing will be a trip to Waldemeer Park.

Saturday, June 4, 1994

This A.M. I was sitting on the porch & Viola Seaquist walked by & came & Sat for an hour while we talked.  Vi Lilja has her name on the Watson Home list.  She had to give up her apt. & is at the Penn Laurel Motel.  They turned part of it into a retirement home.  She hates it there as most of the people have Altshymers (spelling) & aren't normal very often.  She is 87 but still get out.  Different ones pick her up.  I should have a few of them over for lunch.

Viola got going on the church & pastor & said there are those who are disgusted with him.  It shows as attendance is way off & so is the money.  Glad we are retired.

Memorial Day we were at Lar & Kim's along with Jay, Nancy, the 4 girls & Nancy's mom, who was with us at Thanksgiving.  The girls had fun in the creek & they plan a day to be out there when you're here.  Kim suggested you might like to stay out there one nite.  It's such a nice spot.  On Sat Barb & I helped Kim clean the cabin.

Adelaide Welsh is retiring from her job as "Janitoress" at church and they'll have a coffee hour after church to honor her on Sun the 5th.

Lar & Kim plan to go to Fla the week of the 4th to visit her sister.  She is anxious to see their new home.

Dave Blair is now living on Redwood St.  According to the real estate transfer he must have bot it from the others.  Lar & Kim heard Jim Blair, one of the twins, bot the lot next to theirs on Valentine Run &U plans to put up an expensive home.

Last nite we were suppose to meet our pastor friends & eat out.  But we had to cancel as Dad doesn't feel well.  I doubt he'll make the 9:30 summertime service at church.  It's also hard for him to eat - hands are stiff - hard to lift arms.  Tough to get old.

Last weekend we planted flowers so they add a little to the scenery.  Larry plowed & planted the garden.

We got your nice letter & pictures today.  Fun to see how the boys have grown.  It will be so nice to have you all here for a week.  You really are busy with Andy's activities.  It's so nice you are making great memories for the boys with your family activities.

This aft. Barb goes to babysit Marisa & Scott so they parents can get work done at the cottage on Lake Chautauqua.  She'll be there until sometime late Sun aft or early evening.  Scott is such a rascal they can't get anything done except watch him.  She is well paid so she doesn't mind.

Knox Harper died after a lengthy illness.  Thank you know their daughter or was it the son.

The people who bot Dunham's house are spending a lot of time fixing it up.  It looks so much better outside & they are working on the kitchen.  They have 2 dogs like Carey's.
