Finally a clear, humid-free day.  It will dry things out so Dale can mow the lawn later.  He's going to Jamestown this aft.

I'm watching golf.  Very interesting golf course.

Barb's body is sore but she's doing fine.  They put her in a room & she could hear the A.C. fan & some noises drive her crazy.  She knows she couldn't spend the time or night there. But she was better off in her own bed anyway.  Next it's the kemo.  Hope it all works out in her favor.

Last nite at the Mets-Detroit game they honored Mike Piazza for breaking the catcher's home run record.  Yogi Berra, Pudge (Boston & Chicago), & the kid, Met catcher in 80s (can't remember names) were there.  He got a yellow 300 HP sports car from a Chevy dealer, a watch & a bottle of fine French dessert wine from his fellow players, plus other things.  It was very nice.  He said to the Detroit catcher, Pudge Rodre* -- can't spell it, former Marlin catcher, "I hope I'll be at a doing for you after you've broken my record".  And the Mets broke a 2-2 tie in the 9th with 2 outs & 2 strikes on the one at the plate.   Mike Cameron home run. Exciting.

I learned how to spell "Rodriguez"  I'm watching the Mets & saw it in the line up.

The fall Penney's catalog (dream book) came yesterday & have enjoyed looking thru it.  I've seen a couple of things I'd like to order.

It's a beautiful day (Sun. June 20) 2 days in a row.

This A.M. I couldn't decide about going to church.  At 8:55 A.M. I was just getting dressed, but otherwise ready.  I decided to go even tho I coughed during the nite.  I was glad I did. There was a baptism -- the 4th daughter -- & she is a little doll.  And I didn't cough.  9:30 service.

Do you remember Linda Jacobson -- her brother your age -- she was in church today.  she is so attractive but way too heavy.  She teaches in Fla, has for a long time, and loves Fla.  It was in the hi 40s this A.M. & she felt the cold.

As soon as the Mets-Detroit game is over, I'll switch to golf.  Oh yes, the Mets are leading 5-1 in the 7th inning.  And Atlanta is losing.  Did Andy notice as of 6-20 the Mets are ahead of the Braves!  Hi Andy.  Hope they still are when this letter is read.

In golf Barb was rooting for Phil Mickelson & I was rooting for Retief Goosen (S. Africa) & my man won.  To me it seemed like overkill when the announcers talked about Phil.  I suppose they wanted an American to win, but that's the way the ball bounced.

When Charles & Sandy come we'll eat here.  Barb find it hard to work on her hair & wouldn't care to eat out.  Will have steaks, pot. salad, green beans, salad, rolls & a strawberry dessert.  Barb said she should be able to cook the steaks.

First Day of Summer & I've been busy.  In addition to 4 loads of laundry, (Dale turned his mattress & put the mat. pad in the wash) I made Dale's bed & cleaned the bathroom.  Made the batter of a sugar cooky & baked them after lunch.  Cleaned di the dishes, etc.  Sampled the cookies with a cup of coffee.  Then I washed the kitchen floor.  Why the extra activity? Barb isn't feeling up to snuff & has a hard time fixing her hair so she didn't want to eat out.  I called Kim today & forgot to wish her Happy Birthday.  she tho't it would be too much for me but I told her I have the menu (I'm repeating myself) all planned.  Steak, pot. salad, green beans, veggies for salad, rolls (I have to make them), strawberry shortcake for supper dessert.  They didn't know when Charles will be in.  I said send them over & we can sit (hopefully) on the porch & talk & have lemonade & cookies.  That's why I had more jobs today.

Tomorrow we'll get groceries & I'll make dinner rolls.

Wed A.M., I'll get everything all ready so I can visit with them.  We won't eat til 7 p.m. to give Lar an extra hour to work.  He's getting behind in his after work jobs.  Weather hasn't helped either.

I said to Barb I'll have an easy to fix supper.  She said order pizza & make salads.  Good idea.  That is what I'll do -- order pizza.

We didn't eat til about 6:15 & I cleaned up.  I can't seem to make the right choc. chip cooky. Think I found the right one & made a batch of C.C. cookies.  They taste good to me so I hope it's the right one.  I'm soon ready for bed that will watch Cleveland vs. Chicago White Sox for awhile.

Tues. June 22

Got dinner rolls made & went to the Mall & Quality Mkt.   Got strawberries at Hatch Patch. They are so good.  Joyce O'Connor called this A.M. & asked if Barb would need a ride to the hosp.  I said Kim would help.  She said be sure to call if we needed help.  Bev's son's wife had a son last Oct U& Barb's daughter Melissa had a son Dec. 23.  Both are growing fat.  So Joyce is a great grandmother.

Thurs the 24th

Charles told Lar they'd be here the 23rd or 24th but settled on the 23rd.  We waited & waited -- no call, no Charles.  We had our dinner & Kim's birthday.  At 8:15 I got a call from Lar. Charles had called & would be here around noon.  They'd go out for lunch.  But I had already sprayed the oven & racks & I can't stop now.  So I said I'd skip lunch & they'll come over this aft.  What a mix up.

For Kim's birthday, I got her a box of golf balls & cash to equal 50.00  She said I'm not your daughter so you shouldn't give me as much.  I said my daughters-in-law get the same as my children.  I consider both Kim & JoAnna as daughters & love all of your equally.  Kim said she'd get a new golf glove.  She doesn't eat dessert so I fixed a few strawberries in a small bowl & put a candle in one so she had a candle to blow out.

I sprayed the oven & racks at 89 A.M. so it is almost time to get going.

Charles, Sandy & Lar came over about 3:15 p.m. & we had a nice visit.  Sandy loved our porch.  I think Charles has mellowed a lot.  Maybe Sandy is good for him.  I'm glad we had a chance to visit with them.  Lar can work this aft.  Char. & S. left to start on their way home. Want to be home Sat. nite.  Saw pictures of their home & grandchildren -- 2 boys.

Sunday, January 4, 2004

We're watching Green Bay & Seattle & at the moment they are tied.

New Years Day was so mild & I walked to the 5th Ave. mailbox & 2 fellows were playing tennis, & guys were at Beaty field playing football.  Dale even raked the lawn to get rid of fallen twigs.  How often does that happen on Jan 1.

But this week winter returns according to weather news.

Sat. was Dale's free Sat.  He took the bare tree down.  Fri. I had taken decorations off the tree & got things ready to go to the attic.  As usual, I had forgotten some things & it meant several trips to the attic.  Also dusted & it is nice to have order restored again.

Barb borrowed videos from the library.  She wanted me to see "Firefly" with Jeanette McDonald.  We played Scrabble & watched it.  But I couldn't concentrate on 2 things but I enjoyed the music.  Barb beat me 3 times but just by a couple of points so I'm improving  Often times I don't see plays that would give me more points.

Seeing the card table was up, I used it to start a puzzle.  1000 pieces.  Haven't done one for awhile.

Dale worked all day in the attic & is getting rid of a lot of junk.  Got rid of all the boxes we saved for sending gifts.  But more will accumulate during the year.  We're all talking about thinning out our closets.  After so many years clothes get stale, if that's the correct word, & they don't feel right.

G. B. just got a TD -- can they hold off S. for about 2:44 minutes.  Hope so -- we're rooting for your team.

It was nice that Lar & Kim could talk with you last Thurs.  Barb enjoyed it as well.  If Dale is around when you call he will talk.

Tues the 6th

Barb & I have been working on the puzzle -- it's a harder one.

Lar & Kim heard from the Carey's at Christmas.  They didn't build in Fla, kept their condo there & bot one in Buffalo for summers.  That doesn't make Paul's husband very happy. Susan bot a house in Buff. a couple of blocks from John & Paula's.  Now the parents.

It is cold tonite so winter has arrived.  The moon is out tonite & it is so pretty to see.

Made swiss steak for supper & it was good.  This is Dale's late or long day so he's eating now.  9pm. Think I'll make veg. soup tomorrow & a pie.  Soup sounds good for a cold day & preferably homemade.

Lucky JoAnna to be able to attend the exciting game & see the finish making Gr. Bay the victor.  We were happy for you folks.  And thanks for the pictures -- of the boys & the family room.  The boys look good & so does the family room.

Dad & I stopped at Schreiner's a few times & enjoyed it.  The Nelson's always stopped there on their way to the lake.

Thurs the 8th

When I was in the basement I heard dripping but none of the faucets dripped.  Barb found something under the sink was the culprit.  Dale is fixing it.  Another proof I'd never live alone in this house.  Joyce O'Connor has lived alone for -- I think she said it was 20 yrs. since Dugey died.

Lar & Kim were over tonite & we had a nice visit.  Lar got a printer for his digital camera & said it works well.  I told Dale he should get one for his camera.

It is nice to have things back to normal after the holidays.  My bedroom is in good order again & that makes me feel good.  I can only stand disorder so long & then I have to get busy & fix it up.

I even started working on a menu for the month.  Just hope I keep it up.

Dale cleaned out the area under the sink & is now putting things back & wondered if some stuff could be thrown away -- I said yes.

Soon bedtime so good nite to all.

Saturday, November 8, 2003

I'm glad to be sitting down.  Barb said we'd go to the Mall this A.M. so I didn't start baking. After lunch I got a coffee cake in the oven, started dinner rolls & made an apple crisp.  Now I'm almost thru.  The bell should go off for the last 2 pans.  While the rolls were baking I had a cup of coffee & a piece of warm apple crisp.  Umm.  Very tasty.

Yesterday I saw Dr. McNett for the last time.  Joyce O'Connor took me for a 2 pm appt & I got to see him around 3 pm.  People wanted to talk too long with him.  My blood pressure was good & so was my heart beat.  He felt maybe the new medication he gave me last time took my blood pressure down too fast & that caused my problems.  I imagined all sorts of things but with things OK that calms my mind.  It has a great power over a person. I thanked him for all he has done for Dad & me.  He gave me a hug before I left.  He recommended Dr. Nguyen -- pronounced "when".  He is Vietnamese, bro't up in Texas & has a Texas accent.  Dr. tho't I would like him.  Dale's Dr. was filled up.  T here are 4 Drs & they have an office in Pleasant Twp.  I have an appt. for Nov. 26 a 10 A.M. to get acquainted.  My records will be forwarded to Dry Nguyen.  So I have a new experience ahead of me.  It was a long wait for Joyce but she understood.  We went to supper at Ponderosa in the Mall.  We each had the salad bar & they had a good selection.  We walked a little bit but Joyce isn't a shopper.

We have clear skies & cold weather.  Winter coat time.

I read every word of the Bookworm.  Ken Mack must have been quite young when he died. Too bad he couldn't have lived longer to enjoy the fruits of his efforts.  But what a nice contribution to the library.  Enjoyed reading the bio of the library's pages.  Also about the lib. board chairman.  Lets me know more about your position.  Enjoyed reading about Chautauqua County.  The first I've heard of it.  Nothing in the Buffalo newscasts & we don't get the Jamestown paper.  I didn't even look to see if I had made any plans for supper.  I try (half-heartedly) to make plans for the week so I wont' be in the situation I'm in.  Tired & don't know what to have for super.  Luckily there is always Pizza Hut.

Dale put the glass insert in the front door today & the extra glass for the windows in his & my bedrooms. It helps a lot.

I lost 7 lbs & the Dr. wondered why & how my appetite is.  For awhile I didn't each much breakfast but that phase is over.  But I'd like to keep those pounds off.  But will I give up my coffee breaks -- that is the question!

I'm waiting for golf to come on -- The Ohio State-Mich. State game is going on too long. Penn State couldn't even score.  In the 1st half they were close to the end zone a couple of times & couldn't even kick a field goal.  And Wi. lost -- we switched back & forth between games.  (And Miami lost again.  There is a little talk that Joe (Penn State) should retire. Barb says they need a good QB.  You'd think at 76 he'd want to take it easier.  Guess some people find it hard to give it up.

Wed. Nov. 12

I'm making a new recipe -- Italian Bow Tie supper.  It has gr. beef, onions, tom. sauce & diced tom.  Then you add pasta, thawed spinach & mozzarella cheese.  I tho't it sounded good.  Also spices.  Time will tell.

Remember I mentioned Kim Schuler wanted to buy the house (empty) north of Bert's.  He kept after the absent owner & she finally said yes.  So now it is his & he hopes to bring it back to its former glory.  There is a lot to do.

We went to Jamestown last Mon.  Ate lunch at the Red Lobster.  I didn't find much -- a pink cotton blouse with cuffs & a navy sweat shirt with a Christmas design on the front.

Bert had company last weekend from Madison.  Relatives.  He works for the Dept. of Health & Human Services.  Barb said they are nice people.  Barb mentioned JoAnna working at the Capitol & Paul being library dir. in Middleton.  Their names art Myrt & Tom Seiger.

Larry called yesterday for Dale but it was the Tues. he worked til 8 pm.  He called again -- his truck wouldn't start -- on East St. but it sas too late for Dale to help.  Some people at work would ask Dale to work on relative's cars after work.  He'd get paid but he doesn't need extra money & he doesn't like to work on cars after working on them all day.  Of course he'll help Lar.  Mike Brindis waned Dale to work on his car but he didn't.

The former beauty shop closed as of Sat. the 8th.  Jerry couldn't make it without Sheila & Sue.  He is going to become a Schwan salesman.  It is just the opposite for Sheila & Sue -- they are doing very well.

Thurs. Nov. 13

We had snow today that stuck to the trees.  Making them so pretty.  Barb had to shovel at Bert's but we didn't have to.

Thanksgiving is 2 weeks from today.  We'll have the usual menu & Kim said she'll bring pumpkin & pecan pies & a green bean casserole.  I said only 1 pie is necessary but she wants to bring both.  We'll eat about 5 pm.

Sat. Barb is going to Erie alone.  I don't care to go .  Barb wants to look for some tops & she'll stop at Target also.  I'm sure it will be crowded & I never seem to find anything I really like.

Lar's truck needed a new starter.  The first one he got wasn't the right kind.  Today he finally got the new starter in . It wasn't a hard job & it saved him a lot of money.  As it was it cost him close to $175.00.  If he would have had it done, it would mean a towing job plus the cost of starter & the cost of having it done -- labor.

Things are fine here.

I was sorry to hear of June's death.  But I guess it was to be expected - -she lived a long life. 90 years.  She & Ruth were born in 1913.

Thurs. nite I didn't sleep well at all.  I was really tired last nite & went to bed by 8:20.  And I made up for Thurs. nite.  Got up about 6:45 a.m. today.  It's a cloudy day.  Made banana bread, read the paper, made a grocery list but mostly just taking it easy.

Tonite I will see 9 innings of baseball unless the Yankees are way ahead, then I'll switch to another channel.

Yesterday my pastor friends met for lunch in Franklin.  Ted & Sue came from Ohio & Ted & Pat would have picked me up but I didn't go.  Just didn't feel like hearing the 2 Teds & their know it all taking over the conversation.  I might have fallen asleep.  I wasn't feeling up to it.

Nov. 7th I have a Dr. appt. & that is the wrong aft. for Barb to take me.  So I called Joyce O'Connor & asked for a favor (she had told me to call if she could help in any way) & she will take me.  I wanted to take her out to dinner but she said no to that.  She said people do favors for me & I do favors for others.

Barb's (O'Connor) daughter is expecting around Dec. 26th.  So the family is going to Philly for a shower for her.  Bev's son's wife had a baby in Oct. so Joyce is already a great grandmother.  Melissa is going to be an optometrist & will have 6 mo. left.  Her husband is taking his residence years in a Philly hosp.  Still has a couple of years left.  High school sweethearts.

Sun. Oct 26

I was so happy last nite to see the Marlins win.  Pastor Beth is from Fla. & very happy they won.  Denny Crandrell is a Yankee fan & very unhappy.  He is married to Elaine Jacobson & they are active members.  The Marlin pitcher did so well & only 23.  Now we'll be hearing about changes in the team's players.  Who will go where.  Will Torre be back in N.Y. Baseball is my favorite sport, but I like to watch all of them.

Tues. the 28th

Millie called Sun nite & she was telling me more about the retirement home.  She has already started to get rid of things.  In Dec. Linda will check to see how close Millie is to get in. She said Spfld. is really getting bad.  People don't go downtown any more.  They are afraid to.  She won't miss Spfld.  Once they tell her she has a place, she'll have 30 days to get ready to move.  That makes it hard as she  might not be able to sell the house that fast. And she doesn't want to put it up for sale now for fear it would see fast & she'd be left without a home.  The agent said to leave any furniture she doesn't want as furniture adds to selling a house.  I hope it all works out.

Barb started her Christmas shopping & has a good start.  I have some thoughts about what I want to do.

With standard time back, it sure gets darker earlier & makes for a long evening.

Let me tell you about this nite in Auburn, Wn.  My mother was with us & Dad was meeting with a couple with problems.  Around 11 pm, Mom & I went to bed & as I got into bed my water broke.  Dad got home & around 3 AM Dad called the Dr. & off we went to the hosp. Can't remember the exact time but you were born between 5-6 AM.  It was a busy time as several babies were born thru Halloween.  I was in the hosp. 5 days, I think. When I got home I had to make formula & a member L. G. Strand came -- he had to see the new baby.    And you were good & didn't even cry for a feeding until after he left. And that's the start of our family.

Wed Oct 29

This A.M. I made a white cake for dessert tomorrow.  Then I washed the floor & I'm always glad that's done for 2 weeks.

At lunch time Dale said no treats?  And I didn't have any so after my soap & now watching Perry Mason, I made some brownies.  The recipe uses Hersheys choc. syrup & I like that recipe.  It also has a recipe for the frosting -- using choc. chips & miniature marshmallows. We're having an easy supper.  Spag. & meatballs & the meatballs were frozen & I used ready made sauce.  Oh I also made an easy recipe.  Snack Mix Squares for Sheila & Sue. They close the shop on Halloween -- their favorite holiday -- dress up & visit some schools, nursing homes & they come here to show me their costumes.  So I always have a treat for them.  It contains the small stick pretzels, corn chex & M&M's.  Make a mixture of oleo,k peanut butter & miniature marsh. melted together.  Pour it over the pretzels, etc., press it in a buttered foil-lined pan & let set.  It's good.  This year they are dressing in old fashioned bathing suits.  I'll tell more next letter.  They always do a great job dressing up.

I'll finish this & then walk to 5th to mail it.

We're having a warm spell & enjoy it.

Nothing special going on with Lar & Kim, or the rest of us.  I turned one of the calendars to Nov.  Soon it will be Thanksgiving.  But it is fun thinking about Christmas preparations & receiving Christmas cards from friends in the past.

Wisconsin Library Association members meet with Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton

The snow was south of us so we just have the cold weather.

This A.M. I made an apple pie & started veg. beef soup.  Both tasted very good.  Figured soup would go with the cold weather.

Mentioned I was to see the Dr. yesterday & all is well.  See Dr. McNett in 4 months.  Barb didn't feel good Fri. A.M. so I walked to get my hair done.  9 degrees but I bundled up & the sun was out.  Walked home from the Dr's visit so I got some exercise.

When I got home I acted on an idea in my mind.  Called Joyce O'Connor & asked if she'd be interested in watching "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" with me.  She said yes, & then asked her to come for dinner. Fixed chicken, baked pot, broc., fruit salad & the leftover cherry dessert.  We had a great visit as we haven't seen each other for some time.  She exercises (walking) at the Y & a couple of the men walkers have made passes at her.  She said why are the married men the ones attracted to me.  When first widowed she wouldn't have minded dating.  She was in her late 40's when Dugey died & he was 51.  But now she isn't interested.  She is so funny talking about her experiences.  We both enjoyed the movie & had some good laughs.  I'll watch it again.  I had 2 Greek girlfriends in high school & they talked about their experiences & both spoke Greek.

Barb didn't come downstairs til noon today & spent the day in her p.j.'s.  As I was enjoying my dessert, after all was cleaned up, she came down dressed to go to BiLo.  She wanted grapes & I had a list of her.

Glad your Legislative Day turned out to be a success.  Guess Mother Nature is an Independent!

Bet it made you think of spring when you attended the Garden Expo.

No school on Mon.  Pres. Day.  But they will miss one of the days over Memorial Day due to a snow day Wed. last.  The first one in spite of our winter.

All for now.  Started a new puzzle so I'll work on that for awhile.

Oh I tho't of something.  Sam's ex wife's house burned down early last Thurs A.M.  At 2:30 A.M. she called Same & his latest gal answered the phone & wondered why she was calling Sam.  But Sam & his ex have a good relationship & when he was without a gal, he would be with her.

We enjoyed golf & watching Tiger play after a lay off.  He's on top as of Sat. nite.

Tues. the 18th

Thanks Andy & Eddie for my valentine.

We really have snow piled high but not as much as the Eastern big cities.  We got about 5-6 inches.  Lots to shovel.

Yesterday there was no school because of the holiday.  Today they had a 2 hour delay.

The main roads are clear so we were able to go to the Mall & get groceries.

Last Fri. when I walked by Beaty in the aft. I saw my first robin.  He's waiting for spring just like everyone else.

Gen called the other nite.  Next summer they'll have to get a new roof & paint the house.

We've gotten some good strawberries at the store.  From Calif.  I remember Andy loves strawberries.

I'm at the kitchen table, looking out the window at the snow piles on the fir trees.  One looks like a little lamb the way it settled on the branches.

When we looked at a window for over the kitchen sink, I would have like the kind you described you'd like.  It would have been more expensive but I've regretted I didn't push for it.

Too bad we aren't closer with Lar & Dale experienced in brick laying.  They did a nice job here but it was a big job.  (Pat & Ted commented on it again today, Thurs.)

This A.M. Bette Davis was on the Perry Mason show.  She was the lawyer while Perry was "sick" (probably on vacation) & it was good to see her again.  She was a great actress.

Thurs. evening the 20th.

This A.M. Ted Benson called & asked if they could take me out to lunch.  Of course I said yes.  They picked me up at 12:30 & we went to Perkins.  Pat said she had cabin fever & wanted to get out.  We had a nice visit & I didn't get home til 3pm.  Just in time for Perry Mason.  Pat & Ted were going to the Mall after they took me home.  I had pork loin tonite. Made the applesauce yesterday and a pecan pie this A.M.  Also made dinner rolls yesterday as well as a batch of cookies.  So things were under control so I could go out this aft.  We hadn't been together since last Nov.  So we had a lot to talk about.

When Kim was walking Torey he stepped in a puddle that had gasoline in it.  Kim didn't realize it until they smelled the gasoline.  They washed his paws but the smell still lingered so they were going to wash him again.

I didn't wear boots today as the sidewalks & roads were clear.  It was lovely to have it a little warmer & the sky was so blue.  BUT snow & colder is forecast for the weekend & colder temps.

Guess I've covered activities for this time.

Saturday, June 9, 2001

I'm watching the Mets at Tampa Bay.  I tho't the Mets would take the 3 games.  Lost the 1st one & they are behind today.  Then they play the Orioles & then the Yankess.  Will they win any games.

We had some perfect weather.  Temps in the 70's & low humidity.

Got another B. Delinsky book & it is so good.  The theme was Alzheimer's disease.  She used family themes & writes so well.  I've read some of Ann Tyler's books but not recently.

I see the New Game Boy is out & I bet Eddie would like one.  Listed as $99.00 in USA Today & Kmart has it advertised for $90.00.

I'm enclosing the letter sent from the church.  Maybe it was sent to wake people up but I'm very disappointed.  We don't have a pastor who is a leader, people haven't warmed up to them (Gary or Margaret) he doesn't like to make calls & I don't' ever want to go to First Luth.

Have you heard how many will be at the Nelson Reunion.  Has Rachel had her baby yet?

Thurs. there was a sample pkg. of Dove Soap in the mail box but it was for Joyce O'Connor.  I called her up & she came over & we chatted for over an hour.  Barb's daughter graduated from Allegheny last June, got married & has had a year studying optometry -- a 4 year course in Philly.  Her husband has completed 4 years of medical school & will go to Hawaii for part of his internship.  Melissa will go for 2 week.  Barb is married for the 3rd time.  Joyce owned the apt. bldg. corner of 5th & Conewango & sold it several years ago.  She had been getting 750.00 a mo. in payment.  Now it is paid up & she misses that money.  She invested some of it but things are tighter for her now.  We haven't talked for ages.  She's been widowed for 23 years.

Kim stopped by this aft.  She was thinking of things she needed to do -- and then she remembered there is no hurry as school is out.  They were going to Jamestown tonite & would eat at Led Lobster.  T hey would drive in the Miata.

Shults is having a golf outing the end of the month at Jackson Valley so Dale is thinking of buying some golf clubs.  KMart has some on sale & Kim suggested looking in the want ads.  I've seen them for sale.

N Sync is coming to Buffalo tomorrow, June 10.  Bet Andy would like to see them.  Tickets sold liek hot cakes.  Remember hearing about it on TV Buff. news.

Sun. June 10

Mets are winning, finally.

Our synod has a new Bishop.  He won on the 4th ballot.  Has had the church at Corry.  I haven't heard much about him.  I thought it would be someone who has been in the synod a long time.

Dale looked at golf clubs at KMart but didn't get any.  He'll have to talk to Lar to learn what clubs are important, or is it which clubs.

I saw a rabbit in our driveway the other morning & Barb says something is eating in the garden.  They haven't touched the lettuce but got at the beans.  The rabbit looked well fed.

Barb is on her 2nd bike ride today.  she also rode twice yesterday.  She tries to reach a certain number of miles a month & got behind because of rainy weather.  I can't remember the miles per month she rides.

Mon. the 11th

Kim stopped by with some gossip.  "Bones" Blair who built the house by Lar & Kim bo't Dr. Fino's house on Prospect.  They have 5 pumps going to keep water away form their home by Lar & Kim & Lar thinks there could be trouble & he wants to get it sold pronto!  That is why Lar's house is built away from the stream & no basement.

I was lazy & ordered pizza from PIzza Hut.  It was very good.

Barb got wire to put around the garden to keep the bunny from eating the green veggies.  She ran out of posts to put it up so we made a quick trip to the mall.  I returned a sweater (cardigan) I got at Bon Ton -- it was large but the sleeves were too short & on the tight side.  Got a couple of things at KMart -- finally found my favorite (or one0 candy bar -- Heath Bar.

Today Scott was playing with a friend & using bad language so Marisa told him not to do that & she is the one he is imitating.

I tried a new author whose theme is the Victorian era but it wasn't that good.  The last return date was Sept 14, 2000.  That should have told me something but I didn't look.  June Barraclough -- Rooks Nest.   She could have cut it by 1/3 of the words & still bring out her theme.  I skipped a lot of it.

It's going to be more humid this week, so I won't want to use the oven.  Will have to change my menu.

I'm watching the Braves at Toronto & you know who I"m rooting for but the Braves just had a home run & lead 3-2 in the 6th.  Too bad.

Things are as usual here.  We keep going so all is well.

Sunday, April 14, 1996

Thanks for the nice long letter.  Eddie will enjoy Kindergarten & being in school all day just like his big brother.

Dale had a nice birthday & thanks you for the book on NASCAR racing.  We gave him a Monte Carlo model of Dale Earnhardt's #3 car.  Barb gave him a cup with a picture of an older model Plymouth on it.  Kim & Lar gave him a gift certificate.  We know what he like best -- anything with cars.

Scott has been sick with the flu & today Barb doesn't feel so well so is taking it easy.

At church this A.M. the choir anthem material was given by a dear member "in honor of Pastor & Mrs. Carl Nelson".  Hymn of Promise & it was very lovely.  Lar & Kim came to church with me as Carol Anderson (she gave the money for the pieces) called Lar & Kim &^ asked them to come.  Her cousin lives at Crary Home & she has met Lar & Kim.

Think I mentioned the beauty shop moved to the old Betty Lee basement.  Now they have a lot of space & it is fixed up so nice.  A big improvement.  Dad gets his hair cut there once a month.

Joyce O'Connor had a heart attack - was at Hamot in Erie & at Great Lakes Rehab.  She is home now - Barb and I saw her Fri. aft. as we went to the Mall.  She was walking on Verbeck.  She is 70.

We got a bid for vinyl for the house & it is a good bid.  Now we are thinking of vinyl shakes instead of painting the old ones.  Troy will come tomorrow with samples.  Lar thinks we need a new fuse panel that has circuit breakers instead of fuses so we'll see about that.  The reason we're adding things to the bid.

Gen called last week & told about Edna's will.  I was willed about 4000.00 & also the 3 sisters will divide an insurance policy.  Gen tho't my share might be about 13,000.00 all together.   So we'll have extra money to spend.  Gen sent me a form to sign for the ins. policy & then Gen & Millie will take it to Holyoke to have it processed.  She was to be executrix of the will but didn't want the job so Wally's daughter was 2nd in line to do the job.  It takes 6 weeks to get that done & Gen seems to think the bequests should be given soon.  I wondered if it would take a year.

Edna also left a 1000.00 policy with Barbara as the donee.  That is nice as the Dr. thinks she needs a D&C.  It would cost 1500.00 in the Dr. office so it would go toward that.  She sees the Dr. on the 19th.  If she does too much she starts bleeding.  Tought when you don't have med. insurance.

I also bought the video Babe & Dad & I watched it & enjoyed it.

We have caught 3 mice in the basement.  We've never had mice before & I don't like it.  I got some different traps at KMart.  Glue to make them stick - like the ones Lar bro't over only these are enclosed or covered.  Put them down Fri nite & Sat there were 2 mice in 1 trap.  Didn't catch any in the attic.  They must climb up & down.  I have bird seed in the basement & they found that.

Guess I've covered all the news from here.  We've had some spring rains so the grass is greener.  Now if only the warm breezes would come.

Saturday, February 10, 1996

Received the letter & pictures on Fri.   Those boys are so adorable.  Wish we were closer to help baby sit.  (Need a new expression - maybe just plain sit.)

I'm set to go to Joyce's birthday party, but it's too early so to fill the time I'll write letters.  I got her "Chicken Soup for the Soul" #2.  I really enjoy my copies.  Got #2 in case she already had #1.

Nascar racing starts the 18th so we'll be watching the #3 car of Dale Earnhardt.  Then spring training & soon we'll be watching our favorite teams play.  Wonder who will rise to the top.

Barb went to Jamestown - I planned to go & then Dad had a hair cut at 11 A.M. so that meant a later start & I didn't feel like rushing around when I'm going out.

Next Wed - Valentines - Hollertzs, Bensons if they aren't away & we can reach them & Ray Forstrom's from Youngsville* so we'll be 8.  Plan a chicken casserole (corn & broc.) & a jello salad with a pretzel crumb crust.  Not sure if I'll make a dessert or just have ice cr. & cookies.  *Forgot to finish my thought - they'll come for lunch.  I look forward to having them.  Warren thinks they should chip in to help pay expenses but I don't feel that is necessary.  For me it's good to have something to look forward to & make plans -- menu, etc.

Tookk me awhile to get going on Sidney Sheldon's book, but once I started & I couldn't stop.  It was good.  I'll have to look for April Smith's book - sounds good.

Barb had the ultra sound on Wed. & next Mon. she sees the Dr. again for results.  She got the results of the pap smear & that showed no cancer.

Sounds like you had a great weekend even if you couldn't ski.  Linda took us to a Swedish restaurant when we were at Door County.  Remember that grass was growing on the roof.

Ash Wed. is the 21st so there will be Wed. nite services during Lent.

This A.M. before 6, Carey's alarm went off & it is noisy.  Went to call Lar & got the wrong number the 1st time.  We have the key so I was waiting for him - a police car was there also.  It was the upstairs alarm & that has given trouble before so he turned it off.  Imagine nit woke the neighborhood up as it took awhile for Lar to get here.  I went back to bed & got up at 7 A.M.

Imagine they'll have snacks & cake at Joyce's it's from 4-6 - but I won't feel like fixing a meal so we'll have pizza & I'll fix a roast for Sun.  Fri nites & Sun. are meals that are hard for me to make.  Usually we'd eat out at least twice a week & now we don't but I'm not motivated to meal getting.  Think I miss eating out the most.

Scott lost his other front tooth.  Lynn was giving him a bath & he didn't want to cooperate & somehow slipped & his tooth hit the tub & was hanging out.  She took him to the dentist thinking they could put it back in.  They said it would only turn black so it came out.  Lynn didn't go to work that day - she had a headache.  He is really something else.

The temp. is 47 but only for 1 day.  Suppose to get colder again & snow flurries.  But we hope the worst is over for this winter.  No part of the country has been spared.

Time to sign off.

P.S.  Joyce's party was so nice & she was so pleased.  Bev & Jeff Sweet look real good.  Jeff was promoted to Captain so he has done very well in the Navy & he worked hard to get ahead.

Saturday, April 1, 1995

Barb will mail a letter I wrote yesterday & I feel like writing again.

The house smells good - Barb made banana muffins with the tiny choc. chips in them - good. She bro't home some over ripe bananas & she didn't use them all so I made banana bread & a coffee cake (not banana).

Yesterday it was a different day - made grilled cheese for lunch & was fixing one for Dale when the mail came & your letter so I started reading your letter until I smelled something burning - one side was black & then we had a burnt smell in the house. Prefer today's smell.

When we were at the Mall yesterday guess what I bot? "Angels in the Outfield" for the darling grandchildren. Don't know when I'll mail it. Grandmothers are allowed to spoil their grandchildren.

Mon nite is LCW & Patty (Welch) Phillip's boss, a lawyer, will speak on wills, etc. I plan to attend. Wed nite, at Lenten Midweek, our circle serves coffee after the service so I'll go. Haven't been going as I hate to always go to church alone. But I don't miss Sun. services.

Atlanta baseball is on T.V. Just finished watching tennis doubles - U.S. beat Italy but they had to work for it. I prefer sports & weather to O.J. and the constant repeats of the trial.

School will have Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon off for Easter vacation. Kim said she'd like to take us to Erie on that Thurs. Barb has asked to have Thurs. & Fri. off So we'll start making our lists of what we'd like to look for. We never get to Erie like we used to. Kaufman's called about our charge card & they reinstalled it so I can "charge" when we're there. They have nice merchandise. If you don't use it, you lose it!

Did JoAnna have success in looking for spring clothes.

I'd like new bedding for Dale's bed. Noticed in KMart's ad they have some on sale & if they have the one pattern that would look nice in his room, I'd get it. Many are too juvenile or too feminine.

Millie will be 80 on April 17th in case you'd like to send her a card:

M. Guagliardo
70 Plumtree Circle
Spfld. 01118

Now it's Monday. Hooray - will have regular baseball starting Apr 26th.

Walked over town this A.M. & saw Joyce O'Connor & we chatted. Asked about Bob. He is in computer work. His oldest son should have graduated from Hi school last June & he flunked. He has a job as manager of a Pizza Hut so he doesn't need a high school diploma. [son's idea] Crazy kids. Bob never comes to visit Joyce, even tho they come here & they don't remember her birthday, etc. Bev's oldest son & girlfriend are coming over Easter so Joyce can meet her & she is looking forward to that. Fixing up a bedroom - plastering, refinishing woodwork, etc.

Meant to get this off today, Tues, but forgot.

Sunday, February 7, 1993

Ted & Pat Benson called & wanted to meet us for supper so we met at Noiban's, as you aren't rushed there. We sat & talked over 2 hours.  It was good to see them.

And we had a good time Fri. nite with Joyce & Gen.  Joyce is so funny so there never was a dull moment.  Had a pot roast dinner & brownies a la mode & it was good.

This A.M. (6:45) Barb woke us up saying, "Dad, the furnace is making a lot of noise."  He investigated & I got Dale up & it was that belt again & Dale was able to fix it.  We'll have to have it checked.  And I was sleeping so peacefully.

The van needs a fuel pump - the noise is getting louder.  Sat Barb & I were at the Mall & coming home, turning a corner the car slowed down & Barb tho't it was going to stop.  Dale has ordered a fuel pump but hasn't been in a hurry to fix it.  He will Mon nite.  Dad doesn't like to drive it.  We got a crack in the windshield so we got that repaired.  The furnace deal shook Dad up so he didn't go to church.

Dad got a letter from the Bishop concerning his 50th anniv. of ordination.  They are honored at Synod but Dad isn't sure he wants to go thru all that.  And after church Gary mentioned the 50th Anniv. & wondered how to celebrate.  He'd like Dad to preach but he'd never do that.  His medication is hard on his nerves.  They might have a coffee hour after church & I think Dad could take that.  50 years is along time.

Nascar racing is back.  Those who won the pole spot last yr. raced today.  It was a 2 part race & Dale Earnhardt won both of them & that made Dale very happy.  He had his Dale E. shirt on.  Next Sun is the Daytona 500 race.  I have come to enjoy the races.  Dale roots for those who drive Chevies or Pontiacs.  No Fords in his future!

Have you watched Dr. Quinn on Sat. nites.  We enjoy it.

Yesterday was cold & a good day to clean the freezer.  We put the food on the front porch while we defrost it & it's nice to have it clean & in order again.

I got my 5th snow globe.  It has 2 children on a sled with a dog beside them.  It is nice.  Never thought I'd start a collection but I can't resist.

Guess I've covered our news.

Dad talked to Ruth last nite & also Stella who is there for awhile.  Stella hopes to move to a Minneapolis retirement center when there is an opening.

Saturday, November 21, 1987

I'm watching Penn St.-Notre Dame & it's tied.  Cold weather & snow but it's suppose to warm up the 1st of the week.  They poured the cement for the Pa. Ave. bridge & now it's curing for 2 weeks & they're finishing the work around the bridge.  Should be opened by Dec. 7th & that should ease traffic on 3rd Ave.

I meant to cut out an article concerning how to address an env. when the wife keeps her name.  Said the correct way is "Mr & Mrs." so that's the reason for the change.

Congratulations, JoAnna, on your promotion.  W hat does it mean besides an increase in salary?  We're happy for you.

It was good to hear Andy "talk".  I'm sure we'd see a lot of changes in him.  I'm taking Alison home again after I have my hair done.  She has changed so much - loves to come now & we have a good time together.  She will be 2 Dec. 1st.

We'll be 6 for Thanksgiving & will have turkey & trimmings.  We'll eat later in the aft.

Kim was here while Lar shoveled the walks & we had coffee & talk.  She was sick last Mon. & missed work.  Flu is going around.

I wrapped gifts & have my shopping almost completed.  We'll send your box after Thanksgiving & we'll send it to the library.  Ne peeking!

Marie Mathis makes the nicest stockings to hang by the fireplace & I got 3 & they aren't wrapped as you'll want them up (I hope so, Paul!)

I'm making vegetable soup & it smells so good.

Dad doesn't have to preach tomorrow but he has a funeral at 4 pm.  Doris Erickson (Mrs. Creed) died.  She was 86.  They wanted Dad & Gary didn't mind.

Joyce & I are still walking.  Not today but we did yesterday in the snow.

Just the usual happening with us.  Dad has an ear problem & will see the ear Dr. on Wed.  I was to have q check up with Fino last Wed. & it was cancelled.  Now I have one for Jan. 11.  Cancellations happen a lot with Fino.

We all send our greetings & love.

Saturday, September 12, 1987

We're sitting on the porch.  We've had rain but it's nice now but still cloudy skies.

Made a spinach-ham-swiss cheese quiche tonite & it was good.

The Mets disappointed their fans, esp. Fri. nite.  In the 9th with 2 out & leading they couldn't get the 3rd out & lost the game.  Boo hoo!  Not as bad beating today as the Yankees, tho.  Maybe tomorrow!  We've been watching tennis, tonite Penn State plays.  More football tomorrow & Mon. nite the Giants  the Bears.

Barb hasn't heard about the library job yet.  Should by Mon.  She'd like it.

Joyce O'Connor & I walk as often as possible.  We like to walk to the Glade bridge - it's coming along well - & that is about 4 miles back & forth.  Barbs finds it hard to believe I can walk that much at one time.  I'm in good shape!!!!

The baby not coming works to our advantage as it gives Dad more time for painting.  H e has the East & West sides completed & they look so nice.  Everyone likes the color combination.  The tan looks so much nicer with the lighter brown shakes.  It won't take long to finish the front & back - if the rain holds off.  We've had a lot lately.  And of course the golf continues.

Kim is starting an exercise class Tues & Thurs AM & evenings in connection with another gal at her dance studio in the former Comet Market.  It has been subdivided into several businesses.

Wed. nite a man is coming to give an estimate for vinyl soffet.  Dad hasn't painted any of that as vinyl will cover it & make upkeep easier.  He's saved a lot of money by painting himself & this will complete the job.

We've tried Domino's pizza and like it a lot.

Dale still doesn't have his license but it should be coming finally.  His boss has made many phone calls to Harrisburg & others have helped.  Today he got a letter & he has to send 25.00 & proof of insurance.  He has limited driving privileges but can drive to work.  Dad has been taking him in the A.M.  So maybe it will be here before we leave.

And I prefer to leave on Tues. as on Mon. there are always things to do after Sun. & after church, etc.  I don't feel like working Sun. aft.  So expect us on the Wed, early aft.  We plan to stop over at Michigan  City, Ind.

Dad put in a new faucet in the sink in the downstairs bathroom (off the kitchen).  It is nice - the old one was getting so hard to work.  A bargain that didn't work out.  It took him awhile as the work area is so small but he decided it was well worth the effort.

See you soon.

Tuesday, August 26, 1987

Maybe I can write a Note & watch the Mets at the same time.

Joyce O'Connor & I started walking last nite.  Walked to the Glade bridge & back.  Took us a little over an hour.  This aft. we walked to the West End as far as Morrison St. & returned via 4th ave.  We're going to walk an hr. a day as much as possible.  We walk & talk.  Barb said she didn't think I had it in me to walk an hour.  She doesn't know her mother!

Lar & Kim had a nice trip - enjoyed seeing their new niece & visiting with her "Gram" in Atlanta.  When they got back Kim had an invitation to a baby shower & she asked Barb to knit a baby blanket.  So Barb is busy knitting all day & hopes to get it completed.  She thinks she will.   I'm glad to see her do something besides read & take notes.  Emulating Paul, I think!

Had a letter from Millie & Jerry is no better.  She plans to go back to work 3 days a week in Sept.  Too lonely being home.  Edna takes her food shopping (Jerry wouldn't let her drive) & her kids are good to help.  Larry, Debbie & baby some home each weekend.  Jerry only weighs 112 lbs.  Gen & Ed help out too.

Ruth called & she said Lila would need surgery - neck arteries are clogged.  Rudy's legs are bothering him.  Svea got up during the nite & didn't use her cane & slipped & hurt her bad arm.  Greg's (Joyce husband) father died & they were away & by the time they got to him & he could get to Rkfd (no cars to rent at the airport in Chicago) & to the church, the service was about over.;

Dad plans to paint the house.  But he decided he couldn't do the high spots & Dale said "I won't go up there" so we were in a quandry.  He decided to put a vinyl soffet up & will have to get someone to do it & they can't til Nov.  Last nite Lar said He'd do the hi spots for 12.00 an hr.  Dad said that's fine with me.  Don't think Lar expected that.  So Dad plans to start painting where he can reach & Lar will paint when he can.  We'll leave the shakes a brown & the lower part will be beige instead of yellow.  Front porch & some trim an off white.  Dad rented a hi pressure water spray to wash the house & it did a good job.  Dad has scraped touched up the bare spots.  So it's all set to paint.  It should look nice when completed.

Hope to hear some good news soon.

Tuesday, January 13, 1987

It's almost 5:30 p.m. & I'm all ready for bed.  Reason.  Dad has a 6 pm mtg. at the Valley & I plan to watch the 2nd half of "Gone With the Wind".  And also the love seat from Sears, that we ordered in Oct., arrived today.  It was on sale & it has the foot rest but the back stays close to the wall.  Very nice & we're glad it's finally here.  The only thing we don't have the remote control since the new TV stations were added.  So we have to get up to change the channels.  Don't you feel sorry for us!  The love seat is for the upstairs "T.V. room".

Joyce O'Connor called & wondered if you received the afghan.  So don't forget, Paul, to send a note!  She said Bob & Debby are expecting their 3rd.  A surprise as Debby was stepping out.  Joyce spent a Sun with them, in Du Bois, & said things are much improved.  That Sun. they joined the Presbyterian Church & that made Joyce happy.

We are so thrilled to hear your good news.  Sun. I told Rose & she is so happy.  Told Marie Mathis & Gen & Bill Brader.  Dad told Gustafson's up the st. - can't remember his name - but their daughter is your age & lives in Las Vegas.  I told Mrs. Thelin (grandmother) and she was happy to hear the news.

We plan to have Gen & Bill Brader over next week for dinner.  Did I ever say Barb remarried & is expecting a 3rd child.  Denny & Brenda now live in Fla.

We already looked at baby clothes, etc.  Fun!

Last nite we saw the Chinese dancers, tumblers, etc. from Taiwan at the Theater & it was fabulous.  We got more expensive seats & sat in the 2nd row downstairs & could really see the faces, costumes.  A real treat.  A T.V. station from Philadelphia took pictures for a Pa. documental.  Kim was there with a group from the Y.

The School teacher's union came to an agreement with the School.  9% increase for 3 yrs. plus other things.  It's early to be over.  $16,000 is the starting salary.  The Service group should get the same increase so they shouldn't have any problems.

I also called Gen to tell her the good news but we haven't gotten to Signe & Geo. yet.

We finally got sunshine today & already the moon is beautiful.

Dad has another mtg. tomorrow nite in Jamestown - for the coming concert of Augustana College in March.

Thurs. we got out to lunch with Pat & Don Greendahl & Fri. nite we go out with Benson's and Hollterz's.  Everything happens this week.

Visited the library today & have books to read.  Almost forgot - my Christmas hint - a grandmothers BRAG photo book with pictures of the baby!!!

PS.  Cleveland disappointed me but it's all the way with the Giants!

Thursday, March 6, 1986

It's a snowy afternoon so I'll type a letter and hope to remember a number of things I want to say.

Mon. nite was LCW and Robert Silzie showed slides of oldtime Wrrn. and he used 2 screens and showed the sight today.  Very interesting.  He also passed out sheets with interesting facts of Wrrn. and I'm sending one to you.

Today we were at First Meth. for the Lenten noonday service.  Ate lunch with Vi Lilja, Arlene H., and Eva Terry.  The subject of St. Paul pastor came up and Arlene, who is outspoken, said she hoped he didn't stay 23 years.  No one else said anything but you could read their thoughts by the silence.  He isn't too well liked and it is too bad as it is a good situation but he doesn't call and isn't the least big friendly.  It's sad as we have such a good group of people.

Denny [high school classmate] and Brenda Brader are moving to Fla.  They left yesterday with a load of things.  Brenda has a job but Denny will have to find one.  He will be back as they haven't sold their home yet.  Bill and Gen aren't too happy but Bill will teach the girls the insurance business as he will have to have help and wants to keep it in the family.  Bill said he'd keep the job open for Denny a year.

Last Fri. we went to Erie and found some good bargains.  Dad got a nice wool sports jacket for 39.00 and it looks nice on him.  I found a dress and 3 blouses.  2 are summer blouses to wear with suits and slacks.

Last Sat. nite Myrt and Jer Wallin, Alice and Jim Greenlund and Joyce came to supper.  First we had juice and crackers and a relish tray in the living room.  I used the tray you gave me and had dip in the center dish.  After dinner we played UNO around the dining room table and had more fun.

This weekend Dad goes to Dagus Mines but I won't go with him as a group is coming in from Alberta, Can.  They have been touring the US and will have charge of the Sun. a.m. service.  Housing is needed and people weren't responding so I asked Dad if he would go alone to Dagus and then we could have a couple of the young people overnite.  He agreed and they will be here for supper Sat. nite and for breakfast and there will be a potluck after church.  Should be interesting but Dale said he'd have to make arrangements to be away.  That's my kids.

Got the announcement from Ft. Worth announcing the birth of a daughter to Michelle and her husband.  And in the r.r. [round robin] June said that Curt and his wife are expecting a 2nd child in June.

Joyce O'Connor got a new Mercury Topaz and it is nice.  She also sold the apt. on the corner of 5th and Conewango.  She is glad to be rid of that.

Some of the tiles above the tub surround were coming loose from the moisture so Dad is replacing them with a sheet of tile.  Couldn't match the gray but this is a blue and white and blends nicely with the blue tub surround and you don't really notice that it is different from the gray tile.  We are all fine.  How are plans coming.

Monday P.S.

A brief note & then we'll mail your letter.

The youth group from Canada had the Sun. A.M. service & they were great.  Good group in church, too.  2 boys stayed with us.  One from B.C. & the other from Edmonton, Alb.  He shops at that big Mall there - we've seen it on T.V.  They made themselves at home - did a load of clothes; soaked in the tub; in stocking feet.  They loved the dinner & homemade rolls.

A pot luck after church & a good group out for that.  They are in the Pittsburgh area today - will go to N.Y. & Maine.  Left last Sept. & be back in Can. in June.  They said in N. Dak. & Minn. they were served sloppy joes for about 2 months.  The church wouldn't mind entertaining a similar group sometime again.  They really had the electronic equipment.

It's warming up finally.  My washing is done.  Dad is washing the car & then we'll go out for lunch & get groceries.  Tomorrow A.M. I have a dental appt. & that's the A.M. we get groceries.

Wednesday, February 26, 1986

Just a brief note to tell you how pleasantly surprised we were when we turned the page Tues, the 25th & saw the announcement of your engagement.  It's a lovely picture.  Yesterday was the senior group at church & many favorable comments came our way.  And I'm sure we'll hear more tonite at Lenten Midweek.  At the mtg. Tues the Nazarene pastor spoke of his travels to U.S.S.R.  So very interesting - we prefer a speaker to slides.

Last Sun. we had company for dinner - Mel, Levina & Loren Bohman.  We had a nice time visiting.  This Sat nite company again as Dad doesn't preach the 1st Sun.  Alice & Jim Greenlund, Myrt & Jer Wallin & Joyce O'Connor.  We'll eat early so we can play games.  We have fun.

Back to Loren - he is an '80 grad of Augustana & his grandfather was a pastor.  He spent 6 weeks in Sweden & goes to Jamestown to be with the Swedish folk dancing group.  (I'll get it after awhile.)  [Some crossouts in this paragraph.]

Lar was sick last week - sore throat, ache, & it went into his chest.  When he called on Sat. he sounded terrible.  I sent a meal over with Kim.  He is better now.  Kim had the flu but a different kind & Dale's was still different.  Dad & I (knock on wood) haven't been sick & hope we stay healthy.  Lent is too busy a time to get sick.

Have to go grocery shopping & this is just a note.

How's the apt. or house hunting?
