A brief note as I want to send along 2 newspaper clippings.

Twice this week I've walked at Beaty.  This A.M. another lady was there ahead of me.  Usually I'm alone.  I go out about 6:10 after I've made coffee, set the table, etc.  Then I come back & cool down & read the paper.

This noon Don & Pat Greendahl are coming to Wrrn. for lunch.  We'll meet them at Perkin's.

Yesterday Dad had his physical.  He weighed 168 & the Dr. would like to see him at 160.  Blood pressure, etc. good.  My appt. is Aug 30th.  At least I've lost some weight & have been exercising.

It's going to be more humid again -- that's when I get lazy.

Barb & I put a puzzle together last week & now we have another one on the card table.

Dad painted the porch floor & it looks good.  We enjoy sitting there in the evenings.

U.S.A Today had a graph on how often people wash their cards - but Dale didn't fit any of them as he sometimes washes his car daily!  A friend had backed into his car & left a little dent & he wasn't happy about that but he got it fixed so he is satisfied again.  Same girl calls him but we don't know anything except she has a nice voice.

Barb is under the weather as she had diarrhea during the nite.  Babysitting isn't that busy this week so she didn't think anyone would be there.  Last couple of weeks have been slow.  Kim's business is doing O.K. & the 2nd year should be easier.

Give my little sweetie a big hug & kisses from us.

How was Pat's wedding.

It's snowing - yesterday we had a taste of spring & it was heavenly!

Had a perm. this aft. so now my hair is short & curly again.

Lauri said she wants Barb to babysit Sat nite.  Otherwise all she does is read, walk to the library & watch T.V.  I remind her she needs to find a job - to no avail.  She doesn't want to stay here, but seems in no hurry to go.

Tues. we went to Erie.  Didn't buy anything but Jelly Beans but we enjoyed the day.  It was a lovely ride.

Wed. we went to Fredonia for lunch with Don & Pat Greendahl & then to Sidey's dept. store.  Got a pair of navy, low heeled shoes on sale.  Very comfortable.

Last nite was Lenten Midweek & my circle served coffee & donuts afterwards.  Rose said Jim was interviewed for asst. Pastor in Latrobe.  Very large congregation - he'd be 3rd pastor - 1 is a woman.  But they've interviewed at least 10 already.  A committee will come to hear him preach.  He's wanted to move for over 6 months so I hope something turns up.

Had a nice letter from Gen.  They have a new pastor & like him.  Millie went to church with Gen on Sun.  Their church will celebrate 100 years & they are planning a fair & Gen & Ed are busy making things.  Ed's made some Swedish horses, a plaque with ducks on it - etc.  He is talented that way & those things sell well.  They enjoy retirement.

Dale gave the car in the garage to a friend in exchange for work on the Olds he bot.  Also work has to be done on the El Camino.  He had lost interest in the Firebird.  It's nice now as he can park the El Camino in the garage & Dad can get out if he needs to.

Baseball - oh happy day!!  On Sat. the Mets play a preseason game & also the Braves will be on T.V.

Cars have been on display at the Mall & we looked at Dodge vans & we like them.  Dad might look into what kind of a deal they would give.

Dad has had a sore back & has seen the chiropractor & goes again tomorrow.  It doesn't seem to go away & once he played volleyball too soon & that didn't help.  He didn't listen to me!!!!

It won't be long before Apr. is here.  Time goes by so fast & I can hardly wait to see Andy again.  Wonder if we'll be strange to him - but he is with other people so that makes a difference.  See you soon.

Happy Birthday, Paul.  We hope you're enjoying the V. C. R. & microwave!!!

We're watching the series & we're happy as Hrbek just hit a gland slam.  Such excitement.

This week Joyce & I walked to the Glade Bridge twice.  It should be finished by Thanksgiving & that will ease the traffic on 3rd.  Penn Ave Bridge is coming along but don't think it'll be finished by Thanksgiving.

We went to Nichol Inn for my birthday & had Prime Rib & it was delicious.  Their beef is good.

Finally got to the library & tried 2 new authors.  Missed Connections by Elaine Ford.  About a family in the Boston Area.  Italian heritage.  Enjoyed it a lot.

How did the week go for JoAnna & Andy.  I thought of them a lot.

Talked to Gen & Jerry is still in the hospital.  They keep him sedated as he talks all the time.  He isn't doing well at all.

The first week of Nov. we'll go to Burlington Coat Factory with Don & Pat Greendahl (Jamestown).  We'll go to lunch first.  Dad is still looking for a coat.

Next Fri. we go to Peak'n'Peek with our pastor friends.

When Mim & Tom were in Madison they went to the Luth Church near the U.  Is that the one we saw when we went nout to lunch.

We're enclosing pictures we took.  We think they came out good.  Enjoy your birthday.

Acorn squash cooked in the microwave is easy & comes out tasty.

One that didn't come out good.

Dad has a fire in the fireplace (where else) & it's cozy sitting here.

Just finished talking to Geo. & Signe - they called us.  We talked about the lake & told them that we wouldn't be going to the lake.  They had the same idea because they will be moving into their new apt in July.  So we put it off until '88 & see what happens.  We're glad they're not disappointed.  Roland had asked about it, but they wouldn't want to be up there if you weren't' there.  So we'll visit Ed & Gen in July & you folks after the baby comes.  Is that O.K.?

Today we were in Mt. Jewett & we enjoyed being there.  Went to Benson's for dinner & I'm enclosing the recipe that we had today & it is delicious.  And easy to fix - maybe it might appeal to you.  I plan to fix it soon.

Next Sat. nite we are going to a Valentine Dinner with the Holy Trinity group.  Pat & Don Greendahl called & wondered if we'd like to.  It will be at Marvin House, Jamestown.  Suppose to have good food.  Think it's in Lakewood.  (It isn't - downtown Jtown.  It was fun - delicious meal.)

The next Sat. is another Valentine Dinner with the group at Hessel Valley.  This will be at the Maplehurst County Club.

Last nite we watched "Witness for the Prosecution" on channel 3.  Really enjoyed it.  No ads either.

Not much happening around here.  Quite a bit of snow to shovel.  Dad gets his eyes examined on Wed.  Days are getting longer & that is nice.

Now it's a week later & I'll finish this to enclose in your Valentine.  Also a little gift that could go toward a movie or fish dinner.  Enjoy!

We had lunch at the Holiday Inn & looked into the cost of rooms.  We'll also check at Penn-Laurel as we can't wait too long.  Figure Gen & Ed, Edna & Wally, Signe & Geo. & whoever else of the relatives come they will stay in one or the other.  Penn Laurel will be cheaper but H. Inn nicer.

We chose wallpaper for the eating area, got it, put on 2 panels, didn't like how it went on; returned unused rolls & chose a new paper.  The walls are all set to go so I hope Dad can get to it this week.  The 1st choice wasn't the vinyl we expected.  Now we have the right vinyl.  The old was pieced after the new window went in - maybe others couldn't see it but we could.

How's everything with you.  We are all fine here.

Tuesday, January 13, 1987

It's almost 5:30 p.m. & I'm all ready for bed.  Reason.  Dad has a 6 pm mtg. at the Valley & I plan to watch the 2nd half of "Gone With the Wind".  And also the love seat from Sears, that we ordered in Oct., arrived today.  It was on sale & it has the foot rest but the back stays close to the wall.  Very nice & we're glad it's finally here.  The only thing we don't have the remote control since the new TV stations were added.  So we have to get up to change the channels.  Don't you feel sorry for us!  The love seat is for the upstairs "T.V. room".

Joyce O'Connor called & wondered if you received the afghan.  So don't forget, Paul, to send a note!  She said Bob & Debby are expecting their 3rd.  A surprise as Debby was stepping out.  Joyce spent a Sun with them, in Du Bois, & said things are much improved.  That Sun. they joined the Presbyterian Church & that made Joyce happy.

We are so thrilled to hear your good news.  Sun. I told Rose & she is so happy.  Told Marie Mathis & Gen & Bill Brader.  Dad told Gustafson's up the st. - can't remember his name - but their daughter is your age & lives in Las Vegas.  I told Mrs. Thelin (grandmother) and she was happy to hear the news.

We plan to have Gen & Bill Brader over next week for dinner.  Did I ever say Barb remarried & is expecting a 3rd child.  Denny & Brenda now live in Fla.

We already looked at baby clothes, etc.  Fun!

Last nite we saw the Chinese dancers, tumblers, etc. from Taiwan at the Theater & it was fabulous.  We got more expensive seats & sat in the 2nd row downstairs & could really see the faces, costumes.  A real treat.  A T.V. station from Philadelphia took pictures for a Pa. documental.  Kim was there with a group from the Y.

The School teacher's union came to an agreement with the School.  9% increase for 3 yrs. plus other things.  It's early to be over.  $16,000 is the starting salary.  The Service group should get the same increase so they shouldn't have any problems.

I also called Gen to tell her the good news but we haven't gotten to Signe & Geo. yet.

We finally got sunshine today & already the moon is beautiful.

Dad has another mtg. tomorrow nite in Jamestown - for the coming concert of Augustana College in March.

Thurs. we got out to lunch with Pat & Don Greendahl & Fri. nite we go out with Benson's and Hollterz's.  Everything happens this week.

Visited the library today & have books to read.  Almost forgot - my Christmas hint - a grandmothers BRAG photo book with pictures of the baby!!!

PS.  Cleveland disappointed me but it's all the way with the Giants!

Monday, September 30, 1985

We had a lovely weekend.  Colors are starting to be pretty.  We were at the Valley - dad didn't preach.  A farewell potluck for one of the members.

More work for Dad!  The pastor (not yet 40) had 4 heart attacks so synod called & asked Dad to take the communion service Oct. 6 at Galeton (9AM) & Coudersport at 11 AM.  About a 2 hr. drive so it will be an early A.M. drive.

Sat. Dad had a wedding at the Valley & we're invited to the rehearsal dinner Fri nite at Bud's Carriage House.  Last Tues. he had a funeral from the Valley.  Is he retired?

Wed. we went for lunch with Don & Pat Greendahl at the Vinyard, Fredonia.  Then we shopped at the Mall nearby.  Got a pair of real comfortable navy walking shoes.  I love them.  And a dress - light purple with a jacket.  Just what I wanted.  Expensive but I still got it.

We leave Oct. 8 for Gen's.  They had some tree damage from hurricane winds.

How are things with you - are you enjoying your "professorship"?

Oct 8th we'll leave for Mass.  That is election day & we want to be here to vote for mayor.  So we'll leave shortly after 8 AM.  Should be a nice time for a drive.  Be gone for about a week.

Today we were at the Valley for the Communion service.  In Oct Dad will confirm 2.  Last Sun. we were in Dagus Mines for the Communion Service as they are without a pastor.  They wanted Dad to come 2 Sun. a mo. but he opted for just 1 Sun.  Afterwards we met Hollertzs & Bensons & went out to dinner.  This coming Thurs. we're going out to lunch with Don & Pat Greendahl, former lay pastor at the Valley.  Going to a nice Motel at Fredonia.

This past week we went to Holiday Inn for breakfast.  It has been refurbished and it looks so nice & we had a good breakfast.  In Oct. we'll go there for dinner with Hollertz & Bensons.

Have you been looking for a new car?  Tried to call Barb today - no answer.  We don't try to call you because we figure you'll be in Madison with JoAnna.

Last Thurs Danny (the gal who does my hair - her 3 yr old) was here for a couple of hours.  Got some toys from the attic & we had a good time.  Went to McDonald's for lunch.  He wants to come again.  Lori is expecting in Nov. & I told her I'd help while she is in the hosp.  So I want Danny to get used to us.  He is very outgoing & no trouble & I enjoy it.

We had 1 real hot week & I did nothing.  Then it cooled off & almost too much too fast.  No frost for us yet.  Higher areas got some.

Just a note to say hello.
