Maybe I can write a Note & watch the Mets at the same time.
Joyce O'Connor & I started walking last nite. Walked to the Glade bridge & back. Took us a little over an hour. This aft. we walked to the West End as far as Morrison St. & returned via 4th ave. We're going to walk an hr. a day as much as possible. We walk & talk. Barb said she didn't think I had it in me to walk an hour. She doesn't know her mother!
Lar & Kim had a nice trip - enjoyed seeing their new niece & visiting with her "Gram" in Atlanta. When they got back Kim had an invitation to a baby shower & she asked Barb to knit a baby blanket. So Barb is busy knitting all day & hopes to get it completed. She thinks she will. I'm glad to see her do something besides read & take notes. Emulating Paul, I think!
Had a letter from Millie & Jerry is no better. She plans to go back to work 3 days a week in Sept. Too lonely being home. Edna takes her food shopping (Jerry wouldn't let her drive) & her kids are good to help. Larry, Debbie & baby some home each weekend. Jerry only weighs 112 lbs. Gen & Ed help out too.
Ruth called & she said Lila would need surgery - neck arteries are clogged. Rudy's legs are bothering him. Svea got up during the nite & didn't use her cane & slipped & hurt her bad arm. Greg's (Joyce husband) father died & they were away & by the time they got to him & he could get to Rkfd (no cars to rent at the airport in Chicago) & to the church, the service was about over.;
Dad plans to paint the house. But he decided he couldn't do the high spots & Dale said "I won't go up there" so we were in a quandry. He decided to put a vinyl soffet up & will have to get someone to do it & they can't til Nov. Last nite Lar said He'd do the hi spots for 12.00 an hr. Dad said that's fine with me. Don't think Lar expected that. So Dad plans to start painting where he can reach & Lar will paint when he can. We'll leave the shakes a brown & the lower part will be beige instead of yellow. Front porch & some trim an off white. Dad rented a hi pressure water spray to wash the house & it did a good job. Dad has scraped touched up the bare spots. So it's all set to paint. It should look nice when completed.
Hope to hear some good news soon.
Until July 2010, when her eyesight deteriorated, my mother wrote 1000s of chatty letters during her lifetime - to her parents, in-laws, sisters, children, friends. Tho she started to write to me on a regular basis in Sept '68 when I began my freshman year at SUNY-Buffalo, it wasn't until 10 years later that I decided to hold onto them. (Very inconsistently at first, to which the big gaps between dates attest.) These are the letters transcribed, annotated, and otherwise highlighted here.
