We're going grocery shopping when Barb gets home. She had to take care of Scott as he was sick. She should be home at 4:30. It's been a lazy day -- no work got done as it was Bible Study at church at 11 AM followed by a pot luck lunch. I never know what to bring & since I love bread pudding I made that & it went over great. Only a spoonful left & I finished it at home. They like it, I love it! No one else does at home.
Now supper is over & dishes put away.
I heard our library had money given to them & it had to be used for the building so that is why it was changed. Now they have 8 computers all installed. It is a nice looking entry. Wonder if they could put A.C. in -- if they did.
Don't know if you remember Albert Johnson. He left money to the church. They'll get interest twice a year but there is a catch. It can only be used for hymnals, books, choir robes (which are new) & the like. It's too bad they limit how it can be spent. He didn't have any heirs. I know he told Dad he intended to leave money to the church. Also Kane Luth . Home & the Salvation Army got some money.
Called Rose yesterday. She still doesn't know why Karen & Rick divorced. I would never reveal to hear what we've heard.
Dale goes to Rochester Wed. nite for Thurs school. 2 go together & I like that as then they leave as soon as possibly & eat on the way. I'll probably just have a frozen dinner.
Fri. Barb & I plan to go to Jamestown. We'll look for a Met cap for Eddie. When I called last Sun. Eddie said he'd still like one & he didn't get anything here in Warren.
Wed the 24th
This AM's paper announced the closing of D&K over town. I liked to stop in there but with the Dollar Store across from BiLo & Big Lots at the Mall I guess they lost their business.
I got all my jobs done for today's schedule but I plan to start dinner rolls so I don't have to make them tomorrow. With Dale on the way to Rochester I'll have time to get them finished. Tomorrow A.M. I plan to make a pecan pie but prefer to have the rolls in the freezer. We're having oven baked fish tomorrow when Lar, Kim & Torey come over.
K.C. is playing Detroit for ESPN Wed. baseball. Not very interesting to watch. It was more interesting when George Brett was in the booth talking with the announcers.
I just set my rolls. In an hour or so they will be set to form & then bake. Fresh rolls for supper.
The Lutheran came today & I usually read it cover to cover & I have a good start on the articles.
I have Buffalo channel 2 on telling about Drew Bledsoe's visit as the new QB. It was quite a celebration & I'm sure D. B. feels good about it. Also the day was gorgeous weatherwise. Nothing could have been better.
Thurs A.M.
I planned to sleep til 7 A.M. but Dale forgot to turn off his alarm at 5:30. I did go back to sleep until 6:50 A.M. Worked til 9 A.M. & now I'm taking it easy & watching Murder She Wrote. My pecan pie smells so good.
Was sorry to hear about Lila's death even tho I know it is for the best. When Gen died I sent a memorial gift of money to Our Savior's Church. I'm not sure if Lila stayed with their original church or if she went with Gen so I'll send a memorial to Charles.
Every Thurs. the Warren paper has a page of jokes & they had several good ones today & I enjoyed several hearty laughs all by myself. Is the Spotlite section included in your edition when it arrives.
I agree you need a new drier. When we used it last summer it took forever for a load to dry.
Pretty nice, even if it takes more of your time, to be appointed to the Task Force on Pub. Lib. Funding & Legislation. Nice to be able to add to your resume.
Scott has been sick this week with the flu, diarrhea, etc. so Barb has more hours working for Lynn. Means more money. Has to help him with his homework. They had their big sale last Sat. & it went very well. Scott was sad tho, saying he'd never be able to ride in one of their semi-trucks again.
A bird is building a nest in the fir trees Lar planted in the back yard. I can see them darting in & out.
Until July 2010, when her eyesight deteriorated, my mother wrote 1000s of chatty letters during her lifetime - to her parents, in-laws, sisters, children, friends. Tho she started to write to me on a regular basis in Sept '68 when I began my freshman year at SUNY-Buffalo, it wasn't until 10 years later that I decided to hold onto them. (Very inconsistently at first, to which the big gaps between dates attest.) These are the letters transcribed, annotated, and otherwise highlighted here.

Your letter was so interesting & I love to hear about all you do -- your legislative duties & all.
Eddie's project was so interesting to read. Especially #12 & Mike P. I say he has good taste! But I remember ESPN's Joe M. & John talking about Mike saying he is always willing to give an interview & his time. He is a nice person.
Now for the news. The pastor had the service this A.M. His family was in church. After the final hymn, he went to the pulpit & read a letter of resignation as of that moment. After a few words of still blaming a few "tormentors" he & his family walked out. All council members, except 2, resigned. When Gary first came some weren't happy with him so he formed a committee to deal with it. When he found out about the opposition now, he couldn't take it. He'd talk to certain members about how sick he was & his family, etc. I think he should have taken the criticism & do something about changing things. All he did was feel sorry for himself & quit. The main criticism was we never know what was going on. At the annual mtg. they couldn't give a financial report because the computer was down. It would come when the computer was fixed. We have yet to receive the report.
I didn't know how our choir director, John Check, would react. After the pastor left, he got up & spoke. He was one of a group who went to the Bishops Elect to tell him of St. Paul's problems. Everyone was glad he spoke as that started the healing process. It will all work out. John mentioned the letter we got last summer saying we'd have to close our church & join another church. We aren't ready to give up yet. That's my sad tale but we will survive. Just glad it's over.
Saw Dr. McNett last Fri. My blood pressure was a little higher than usual. He wants me back in a month so the nurse can check it. If it's still high he will change my medication.
Last nite we had a beef roast cooked in the crockpot and it was so good. I even made an apple pie for dessert. Today I have a chicken to roast so 2 good meals in a row.
Last Thurs. Dale was in Rochester for school -- on motors. He said it was a good session.
This coming Mon. he leaves for mroe school. Tues. & Wed. coming home Wed. nite.
The kitchen is cleaned up for the nite. Always a good feeling.
Katherine Peterson is visiting her brother in New Jersey. She is in the hospital -- they gave her a pacemaker. Since her last illness Katherine has lost weight & doesn't look that good.
Barb is now a San Diego football fan following Doug Flutie, who is doing OK. She is not a QB Johnson fan of Buffalo, who lost again.
Back to church. Gary didn't give the congregation a chance to say goodby so I guess he is made at almost everyone.
Ruth & Russ Thelin were in church today with former members who are visiting Ruth & Russ. The Becerks & they weren't in Warren too long having been transferred to Texas. The wanted to attend St. Paul to see old friends. There was also a new couple in church today & it wasn't a good day for visitors.
Monday, Oct 1.
This A.M. I saw Dr. Keverline (eyes) & found out I needed a stronger lens for my left eye. I'm seeing good but will see better. Walking home, I met Mardi's mother & we visited for awhile. Mardi & her husband bought a home -- she said St. Mary, but I can't find it on the map, so maybe she meant Marysville. Maybe you've heard from her. The twins visited them & got back in NYC Sept 10.
Barb L. wasn't in the Dr's office but Mrs. P said she was away fro the weekend in Maryland & maybe didn't get back. Maybe she had Mon. off.
Dale left around 6 pm for Rochester so Barb & I are alone for 2 days. Dale will be home around 7 or so on Wed.
I'm watching the Pirates at the Mets & Fox TV. The Mets had a very slim chance to win if the Braves & Phillies help by losing. Slim chance!
Forgot to mention Dr. K wants to see me in 6 months. I was hoping tit would be a year. Oh well, eyesight is important.
Barb said Lynn told her Bob was complaining he wasn't getting any good meals. Lynn wanted the recipe for Hamburg Gravy from Beaty. I don't make it but make a similar meal using beef cubes. I wrote how I make it (no recipe) & also gave her old issues of Taste of Home and Quick Cooking. Maybe she can find some help there.
Tues. Oct 2.
It's a lovely day so after lunch I'll walk to the post office & mail letters & maybe stop into D&K & see what they have that is interesting I might like. At least you don't spend a lot of money there.

I'll start a letter and keep adding to it. With Dale gone, Barb & I went to Holiday Inn for lunch. I had the salmon with roasted potatoes & carrots (baby) & it was delicious. The salmon was a larger piece that I've had before. Barb had a Philly Beef sandwich. We had dessert -- Barb carrot cake & I had Bourbon Pecan pie. It was a nice outing. I won't have to make supper. We'll each get something easy. Then we went grocery shopping. They say it's best to go grocery shopping on a full stomach.
Wed. the 10th
Received Charles & Sandra's Christmas card & letter today. I'll have to keep their address in my file. They are made for each other. He plays & she sings.
Today we have sun & clear blue skies & I can hear the icicles crashing to the ground. Nice to see the sunshine. Good weather for Dale & the other fellow to drive home form Rochester. This session was on Dodge trucks. Dale said the other fellow only had 15.00 & had brought food from home. Dale had a couple of hundred $ on him.
Fri the 12th
Yesterday the UPS driver was here & I had to sign a paper I didn't receive the box. It's our regular man & he said he always put small pkg. between the front door & screen door. I order from Penney's & Dale orders a lot & we've never had any problems.
This A.M. after my hair appt. I went to D&K for some silk flowers. Got 2 large cream roses -- about 5" in diameter & put them in a tall, blue, slender vase Lar gave me years ago. Put it by the fireplace & it really looks nice. Got some smaller pink roses & put them in a pink (deep) vase that was a wedding gift & they look nice. They are in the dining room.
This aft. we went to the mall (missed an exciting part of my soap!!) & I paid the Penney's bill. Barb got 2 tops at Bon Ton & then we went to Big K. As we entered we saw some Christmas ornaments 1/2 price & some 75% off. Got 2 boxes of ornaments & 2 wreaths. They are gold trimmed with 3 pine cones & 2 roses. Thought I'd like to put one over each light by the front door. The other lights really light up the porch so they would be visible from the st. They also have a lighter gold bow. So I'd better be ambitious next Dec.
My nose & upper lip area were a mess. The skin started to peel & what a mess. Finally tried Neosporin & that healed it fast so it doesn't look as bad today. Never had anything like that.
The nite stand Barb & I gave Dale looks like a smaller version of the old iceboxes but only one door. Inside there is no shelf so Dale is making one. He does a nice job & has invested in tools. Did I write he also got a large bookcase but hasn't had time to put it together. He also put some of his money into a CD. Last nite Larry mentioned he got a small TV (99.00 at Big K) for the greenhouse. He can watch H&G TV when he is working.
Shults has a monthly lunch meeting. Dale said they other Shults businesses (Jamestown, Bradford, Dunkirk) will be run like the Warren Shults as they make the most money. I know they have a good business. I'll brag & say they have a good man with Dale working there.
The moon was beautiful last nite. The days are getting longer & I like that.
Sun the 14th
I'm ready for church but have time to write.
Torey is here. Lar called yesterday to ask if we'd "baby sit" Torey. They are on their way to Erie now. 9:40 A.M. I was taking a shower & when I came up the stairs Torey was here so they wanted an early start. When he saw me dressed he thought I was getting ready to take him for a walk. He won't like it when I leave. Dale is up & has had breakfast. Barb is still in bed & as soon as she is dressed she'll leave to get the paper. I put an old mattress pad on the davenport so he could be on that but he is on the floor.
Later on Sun.
Good football. I'm still rooting for the Giants to be Baltimore. Wsa rooting for Oakland. Should be a good Super Bowl.
Are you away this weekend. It is Martin Luther King weekend isn't it? No, I'm a week early right the first time.
I took Torey for a walk around the block. He was getting "antsy" waiting for Lar & Kim. They picked him up about 4 & Kim walked Torey home. Then they were going up to camp to take the furniture out of the bedroom as Larry wants to concentrate on finishing it.
Bet you're anxious to hear more from the contractor concerning the kitchen plans & costs!
Dale bo't himself a couple of shirts. One is flannel lined. He really is surprising me. The other is a flannel plaid. He plans to go thru his closet & get rid of old shirts. I'll wash them & give them to the Salvation Army.
We had a beef roast for dinner. It's been a long time since I fixed a roast & it was tasty. Barb saw a roast & suggested it for a meal. Nice to get ideas from someone else.
Guess I've covered the news from here.
P.S. Great news about Eddie & his picture drawn for church.

I was tired last nite so it was "early to bed & early to rise" & the house is quiet & I'm set for church except to get into my dress.
Got my Thanksgiving cards for "the sisters" & started writing notes. 4 on Carl's side & 2 on my side.
Kim is afraid the teachers will strike & to make up the days they will lose all their holidays & she doesn't like that. I hope they ca work it out. In my memory there has been at least one strike.
On Halloween 2 interesting things happened. I cleaned the bathroom on Tues. & keep my bucket on the attic stairs. When I went to fill the bucket there was another bat. I dropped everything, closed the door & quit working. No one was home so when Dale came for lunch he took care of it.
Just before lunch the doorbell rang (I was glad I had showered & was presentable) & when I answered there were 3 persons in costume & I only expected 2 so for a minute I was at a loss for words. It was Sheila & Sue with Sue's boyfriend. (Don't know what happened to her husband.) Their get up was so good. Barb took pictures so yesterday when I walked over town I gave them each a picture. They came out so good & clear. It was the last picture on the film & that aft. we went to the Mall & she dropped them at KMart & they were ready on Fri. The pictures at the Dam came out so clear & nice. She only wished a couple were closer up but she wanted the background. She plans to send some. She, meaning Barb.
Yesterday I went into D&K to get some Christmas wrapping. This one clerk recognizes me & I said I wanted wrap so when my soon comes at Thanksgiving they can take some gifts back. She wondered if there were grandchildren & when I said yes, she said we have some nice clothes for children, trying to be helpful. I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I said I'll look next time I'm in. But I can't imagine Andy wanting anything from D&K to wear. Or Eddie, either.
Saw Mrs. Africa recently & she raved about the driveway. Thinks it's wonderful.
Now it's afternoon & I'm watching golf on TV.
Yesterday I had a turkey roast so today we're having left overs. Easy meal.
Yesterday Dale went to Frewsburg to see his friend & on the way he got a flat tire. On the El Camino. He changed the tire himself. Today he cleaned it up & back to the garage it goes. So he'll drive the Blazer. He'll get new tires..
The refrig. in the basement won't work so Dale plans to get rid of it. In its place he'll put a new set of shelves he bought. We have an attic & a basement & still the space is filled. Lots of junk.
This aft. Kim was going to tag several Christmas trees. She'll tag one of us so we'll have a real tree again. Plan to put in the area by the L.R. mirror. Reason: when it was by the stairs I couldn't sit & watch TV & see the tree at the same tie. Now when I sit in my chair I can see both. Just have to move the rocking chair. I like to see the lights.
Upstairs Barb is clapping so Buff must be doing OK. Now it's a tie & overtime. They won.
Warren Hollertz called last week. The group will get together Mon. Nov 20 at noon. Someplace outside of Youngsville & they'll pick me up. They had visited their son in Hartford & just came home from a visit in Ohio to their middle daughter. They get around. He said their anniversary was great. Will be nice to see everyone again.
We still plan to go to Erie next Fri. On Sat. I'll get a permanent. I really need one -- my hair is getting long & straggly.
Just had a nice visit with Gen on the telephone. It was my turn to call. Ed answered the phone & he wondered about the Mets. He always has to tease me. But I got him back telling him the Mets did better than Boston by reading the World Series.
We're suppose to have showers in Tues. Hope they aren't bad ones. I like to vote in the A.M. & walk to Calvary Baptist church to vote. Then at 4 I see the Dr.
Guess I've covered all the news here. Before you know it, it will be Thanksgiving.

Got your letter today.
The driveway is about half completed. It is a big job, one Lar told Kim he wouldn't do for anyone but his mother. The one who delivers the fill was late both yesterday & today. He has a job at United & is on 2nd shift this week. Now Lar is going for a final load & Dale is tamping it down with a rented machine. So it won't get finished this week -- they'll get a start but will have to work on it after working hours -- laying the blocks, that is.
Kim has 2 aunts that try to run everyone's lives. Her sister in Fla. isn't well & they are driving her crazy. Yesterday Kim was a little late because her sister called to tell of the aunts continued interference. At least her in-laws don't interfere with her on Larry. We love both our daughters-in-law, & fell very fortunate you & Lar made such excellent choices.
We were talking about where we should go for my birthday dinner. We don't want to go too far & there is nothing in Warren, so Kim suggested an Italian restaurant just as you enter Jamestown from Warren. It is small but Kim said the food is good & they have a wide menu. So that is where we'll go. Kim & Lar have been there several times.
The Mets go in as the N.L. wild card. But I'm hoping the Giants will go all the way as I'm sure the Mets won't.
Sat A.M. Sept. 30
This A.M. I walked overtown & went to D&K & found a few items I could use. It's fun to look around in that store.
This aft. I made a coffee cake & a batch of bar cookies.
Now I'm taking it easy.
Barb is going to ride her bike -- it's a lovely fall day.
The bricks for the driveway won't be delivered until Wed. Oct. 4th. It should be done by the time Paul & Eddie come. Times is flying by.
Sunday Oct 1.
Another lovely day so after lunch I walked to CVS for a few items. It was good to exercise.
Last Fri. when Barb & I got home from a trip to the mall we noticed a Beaty girl was upset. I asked her if I could help -- she wanted to use the telephone. Her dad picks her up but she was a little late & she was in tears. I heard her tell her mother she wasn't at her girlfriend's but an old lady who was nice but let her use the 'phone. I'm an old lady but funny I don't feel like one! They picked her up.
In today's Buffalo paper there is a cooky recipe that took top honors at Erie County Fair in Aug. It contains choc. chips, oats, coconut & nuts in addition to sugar, flour, etc. Also a small amount of cinnamon. I plan to try it. They said to use 1/4 c. dough for each cooky but I'll make them smaller. T hey sound good. We'll see.
I got another Sandra Brown book Fat Tuesday and it is so good. Finished another M. C. Beaton book Death of an Addict featuring Hammish McBeth who solves the crimes in his bumbling ways. They are fun reading. The author has written 15 of these novels & I'm sure I've read them all.
When we were kids, I remember I didn't like Sun. afternoons as we couldn't play alike they do today. We might take a walk or just sat & watched the cars go by. Now I'm a widow & feel the same way. Not much to do Sun. aft. so that's why I'll walk to CVS if it's nice weather. Or read or do a puzzle. I still don't like to work on Sun. Guess it got ingrained in me or I'm lazy! Probably the latter.
Mon Oct 2
They are unloading the bricks now & Lar is here. I wrote out a check for $2,048.93 for them. Still the bill for the fill to come so I'm lucky to get the labor free.
I made the cookies from the Buff. Sun. paper & they are very good. Lar & Kim stopped by yesterday & I gave the recipe to Kim. She said she'd leave out the coconut. I felt the dough was very thick so I added 2 T water. I've already had 3 & still 3 pm coffee ahead!!!

Went over town this A.M. as it is a sunny day. Cashed a check for Mar. expenses; got vitamin E at CVS & went into D&K, a favorite place to look around.
Last week I saw Dr. Keverline for my eyes. And I do have a cataract & arranged to have it taken care of Mar. 16th. He asked me if I'd lost weight & if I get hot - I said I've lost weight & I do get warm but mostly when I working & the house temp.l is at 72 - for Dad's sake. Next Tues. the 2nd I was suppose to see Dr. McNett but now he won't be in the office but I can see the nurse - more than an RN - a Dr. asst. but I can't recall the title. She is very nice. Oh yes Dr. K. wonders if it's thyroid & gave me ma note to give Dr. McN.
Dad has fallen several times this past week. Mostly because he is so ornery & won't listen. Many times he tries to hit me & as a result falls - loses his balance.
Larry & Kim think I should talk to Mark Patterson & make arrangements for a funeral. Many people do that today & it makes it easier at the time of death. I don't see how Dad hangs on. He eats so little & now he's sleeping more. It's hard to feel bad as he has a way of making things so difficult. I guess I'll have to remember the first 50 years & forget the rest when the time comes.
Tomorrow I get a permanent & I really need one. Suppose to be in the mid 40s.
We are enjoying golf on T.V. Really interesting this week as it is a one on one tournament.
I agree with what you said about the Yankees. And L.A. spending all that money on a pitcher. Of course my Mets did that on the catcher. Time will tell. It's not an equal situation for all the teams.
Talked to Gen this week & she said she, Edna & Linda (Millie's daughter) all have or had thyroid trouble & take medication. I didn't know that.
Got a new lampshade & it matches one I got before. They are lighter & make things brighter.
Morning are lighter at 6:30 A.M. & afternoons are lighter longer, almost to 6 pm. Nice. Thoughts of spring.

Another Fri. A.M., the 19th. Dad is still sleeping, so I'll start a letter.
Tues/ nite there was a horrible smell in the house. A skunk must have been scared & let off his "perfume". Something scared it - a cat or maybe the lite on the garage that comes on with movement. It was bad.
Mon. nite Barb & I both got bargains at Penneys. Barb has wanted a skirt to go with a sweater she has. Looked & looked to no avail & we found what she wanted in a sales rack. I found a 2 pc. outfit. A knit skirt & top. Aqua color. Skirt a little long but I can take it up.
Got my order from Penney's & all fit fine. So now I have something that fits!
Oh yes -- kiddingly I asked Barb if she had any dresses I could wear. Her answer - "they wouldn't fit you." Last week she caame up with 2 & one I like. Andn it fits!!!
Mon. the 22nd I see the eye Dr. My right eye is blurry - have a cataract starting so maybe it's "riper" now. Edna had cataracts removed. An easy process today. Then Mar. 2 I see Dr. McNett for a check-up.
The weather shouldn't be too bad today so I'm going to try to walk over town & maybe browse thru D&K & go into CVS.
Dad sleeps more now & it's harder for him to get around. Because of that I don't get to church as often as I like. Last Sun. the pastor was gone & Roger T. preached & John Check had the liturgy. They are both great. Maybe too good allowing the pastor to take Sundays off.
So Roger Clemens is a Yankee. I hope they don't have it this year. Give someone else a chance. At least Derek Jeter got some money from George! More than he wanted to part with. Also noticed Cal Ripken still wants to play but won't start every game. Guess it's hard to retire. I read an article & his wife doesn't like baseball & would rather have him home. He's had a long career.
Dad fell twice this week. One day after lunch. One A.M. I came down & I always check to see if he's in bed. Went into the bathroom & when I came out he was on the floor & I didn't hear any noise. Dale got him up & back in bed & he didn't get up til 11:30 A.M. I made noise but it didn't bother him. Tried to wake him to no avail.
Ruth sent us pictures of Rachel's wedding. Arland performed the service in her apt. I wouldn't recognize Rachel. Ruth said David's waiting for his S.S. numbers (or whatever) & then he can look for a job. They are looking for a house & I guess they found one they like & have to wait to see if it goes thru, etc. Barb thinks Rachel & Mim look more like sisters than mother & daughter. As I understand it, they'll have a church wedding in Aug. Another wedding to go to. Ruth approves of David so he must be OK!
Spring training has started so I hope our spring weather won't be too far away. Hoping to see robins soon.
Time for a 2nd cup of coffee.
I'm happy for JoAnna - tell me more about what JoAnna will be doing - what is expected of her in this job, etc. Wonder what her former boss thinks.

I bot a roll of 32-cent stamps in Nov. but the post office is out of stamps - 1 cent - I'll have to get a few 33 cent stamps so I can mail letters. What a paragraph!
I finally got to the bank & cashed a check for Jan. expenses. Went into D&K & got glass plates like you got JoAnna. Now I have to clean out a space for them.
We have a lot of snow & more keeps coming. But at least it's winter. But with bad roads I didn't get out for groceries on Fri. or Mon nites. Barb went during the day.
In last Sun. Buffalo paper there was an article on the plain plates Kim talked about. I tho't it will give you an idea of what to do. The week ago Sun. paper had an article on Frank Lloyd Wright. I meant to cut it out but forgot & then couldn't find the paper. One enclosed is from last Sun.
Did I mention in my previous letter that Bob. J. called Barb & asked her to watch Scott 4 A.M.'s. No Fri - Bob home. She agreed so she has to be there at 9 AM & takes Scott to school at 12:20. So she is up & out & I can start making noise - T.V. - cleaning, etc.
The pictures you sent of the boys are so good. I like them a lot.
Barb was shoveling snow & so was Frank across the st. He said this snow is heavier than cement. The first snow was light. Today it was heavy. School opening had a 2 hour delay.
Carey's left this A.M. for Florida. While they're gone Dale can park his car in their garage.
Now it's Fri. the 15th.
Dad is still sleeping. I wrote a note to enclose in Signe's birthday card. Now I want to finish your letter so it can be mailed when Barb gets groceries. Will have to get 33 stamps - no 1 cent stamps to add to my 76 32 cent stamps. Get them by the roll. I'll get them when the rush is over.
No school today - the 3rd day off with only one snow day so they won't get a day off in Mar. & won't get Easter Mon. off. Because of past mild winters. They should have known winter would come with a blast. We have high piles of snow like in years past. Aren't you glad you're not going to school in Buffalo now. We watch the Buff. channel - $2. Good anchors, reporters, etc. I wonder if we'll ever get Pittsburgh channels.
This is a mixed-up letter but at least you'll hear & know that all is well. Dad woke me up at 2 A.M. this A.M. but I got him settled & I went back to sleep.

Your letter arrived this A.M. Barb is busy painting the porch. When she finishes this section the part from the windows to the step railing will be completed. Looks so nice.
Mon. Lar & Kim go to Du Bois to pick up the newly leased CRV. They got it in the silver Kim wanted. I'm anxious to see it. Thurs. Lar had a migrane headache - woke up with it. Finally took the aft off & slept. Took 7 aspirins. He felt better when they came for supper so he worked at Carey's.
Wed. I got a final copy of Edna's will. Interesting reading . I'll enclose it for you to read. Wed. nite I called Gen. All is fine there. Just wanted to "gab". Thurs. I had a letter from Millie. She broke her little toe getting up during the nite to close the living room window. Linda was home & they went to gen's & Linda showed slides of her recent trip to China. The last week of Aug. Millie will spend a week with Linda at the Cape. Millie takes advantage of the bus that takes "Golden Agers" food shopping. Several ladies who go together & were to go out to lunch this week.
I ordered Andy's birthday present from the Penney's folder he studies. It will come this week. I'll mail it to the library in Sept.
Will Eddie come home after school now you can leave then alone.
Tues nite Dale leaves for Rochester for classes Wed-Fri. Then he's on vacation the next week. He's busy working on the Blazer for winter.
Last Wed I walked over town & closed out my checking account. Had my Soc. Sec. check put into our chk. acct. since I write all the checks. Then I went to D&K & found they had dark green towels I wanted for the bathroom off the kitchen. Fri. nite at K Mart I got a dark green contour rug so I have 2 now. They get washed often so I needed a 2nd one. The dark green looks nice in there.
Lar has a card for Sam's Club & when Lar & Kim were there recently they saw some of your Christmas idea selections displayed & said sometime they'd take me along when they go so I could start my Christmas shopping. I'm waiting for Penney's Christmas catalog to come.
It's been warm again so I'm looking for ward to fall & cooler weather.

I'm on the front porch again - supper & duties are completed. Later I'll watch the Mets play in Atlanta. Am looking forward to the All Star game.
Finally got to the dentist this past week. Have to go once more to fix an old filling. The one who cleaned my teeth said my gums are in very good shape for someone my age -- meaning an old lady! Kept putting off calling for an appt, then my leg bothered me so it added up to 2 years since my last visit.
Barb has startedscrappe - how do you spell it - to scrape the3 wood by the windows on the porch prior to painting. She got the pain today. Hopes to complete the job by your visit.
Today I got my hair done at 12:30. Afterwards I went to the bank for my monthly needs, got Dad a pair of slippers & went into D&K, a favorite place to look at "Stuff". It's in the old Murphy store now & much brighter.
We're going to Lar & Kim's on Sun - about 4:30 for a cook out. That will be fun. Hope Dad will be willing to stay awhile.
Usually we get groceries Fri. nite. But Dale said Barb could bring the van up at 5 pm for an oil change. The stores are opened tomorrow so while others are at the parade we'll to go the Mall & grocery store. Will be less crowded. Parades were fun when you kids were little. Now it's a different story. In today's paper it pictured chairs already in place for the parade. Nothing like being an early bird. Did you renew your subscription - if so, you know what I'm talking about.
Your letter came today - talk about busy people. Seems like your days aren't long enough.
The other nite when I was washing dishes, I noticed someone was in Dale's car - but I tho't Dale was working on something. A few minutes later I see Dad getting out of the car, so I went out. He wanted to know where the keys were. Told him it was Dale's car & besides he doesn't have a license anymore & doesn't drive. He didn't believe me & got upset with me. Doesn't like it that I take things from him!
Barb spent 5 hours (2 1/2 hours each) weeding at the library. The 2 parts by the parking lot. Her civic contribution. Wonder if the new director is sorry he ever got into this mess.

Just a few words as I want to mail this when I get my hair done at 9:30 A.M.
Hope this will help Andy. The magazine has some interesting pictures & facts on Sweden's industry.
Got your letter & pictures yesterday.
Not much to write about. I'm on a jigsaw puzzle mood. Started my 3rd one yesterday.
Weather mild.
D&K is now settled in part of old Murphy's bldg. Want to stop in to see it. The Liberty St. entrance will feature a sewing shop. They closed off that narrow section. She plans to give sewing lessons in the basement section. D&K uses their part of basement as storage.

Have a minute while dinner is cooking so I’ll start a letter & see if I can finish it later.
It’s been a rainy day but it looks like it is trying to clear up. It’s suppose to warm up this week.
Dale has a summer schedule at work. Every other week they work from 7-4 with an hour for lunch. This is the 2nd week of early hours. Dale gets up at 5:30 A.M. & showers in the basement so he won’t make too much noise. I’m up at 6 A.M.
Carole & Joyce were home for Ruth’s operation so Sat. A.M. after the operation I called at Ruth’s as I figured they’d be there. Talked with Joyce – all went well & I haven’t heard since. Tried to get Beloit but I guess Gen spends the days with Lila. Signe called & she tho’t Lila was in a nursing home. The hour difference in time makes it harder. Think I’ll call your time& then I’m tired & I forget. Joyce said they sold their home & would be moving to Cle Elum the other side of the mountain. Have property on a mt. at 2400 ft. & they’ll have hot summers and cold winter. They will build & hope to do a lot of the work themselves. Will have to rent for now.
Barb & I got groceries & stopped at the Mall. Was watching Atlanta v. L.A. cut Atlanta can’t lose so I changed channels. Mets are winning, but we don’t get them. ESPN lets us know.
After Larry finished the kitchen floor the 3 plain walls in the kitchen didn’t look good. They were yellow walls. So Barb decided to paint & we got a light beige & what an improvement. It looks so nice & makes it lighter.
We’re watching Larry King interviewing Colin Powell. Interesting.
Tues A.M. Upstairs in cleaned & I’m waiting for sheets to dry & then I’ll take things upstairs to put away.
Dale told me this A.M. that Wed. after work, when he’s cleaned up, etc. he leaves for Rochester for Thurs. & Fri classes for his job. They earned a 5 star rating so last Wed nite (23rd) they had a dinner for all employees at Jackson Valley C.C. The Chrysler organization provided all the food & I suppose the chefs there did the work. Last year they just missed it as one of the employee’s girlfriends had a complaint – the others were disgusted at that.
This week Sam Baughman & wife are spending the week at Shults’ condo in Fla. He won the trip. If a person you recommended bot a Shults car your name would be placed in a pool. San had 6 names in there & his name was drawn. He was happy. Flight down & back & the condo for a week. His folks are in Fla. so he planned to see them.
Tomorrow (Wed) is suppose to be nice & warmer so I’ll go over town & cash a check for my May expenses & look around at D&K. Not much left downtown anymore. But I love to go into D&K – like a rummage sale only better. And I’ll return library books & get more. Finished a Sandra Brown book & it’s quite “steamy”. Also read one by M. C. Beaton. I like them a lot.
Now it’s 7:30 pm. After supper I pulled a few weeds by the side of the house. Need to get some gloves before I really start gardening.
Called Beloit last nite & talked to Genevieve but didn’t really learn anything. Charles was out. Lila and Ruth are both in rehabilitation places.
Did you catch the Mets score on Mon the 28th. Mets 15 – Cincy 2. I love it. Next year we might not get as many Braves games as they are planning to downsize TBN.
Time to send our love to all of you.
