I'm sorry I didn't know about Andy's confirmation.  I'll send a card as soon as I can.  Don't have any on hand!

I recognized the liturgy right away.

Sheila thinks the house she grew up in is haunted.  They have a rocking archaic upstairs that will rock for no reason at all.  Someone who worked before her mother died (night shift) told them your house is haunted.  Since her mother died funny things have happened but she didn't say what.  Before her folks bo't the house someone committed suicide there.

I didn't watch the big game & we were sorry Phillie didn't win.  Barb \fixed chili & I made pot. salad & baked chicken thighs & legs in a B.B.cue sauce.  And pumpkin pie.  I watched poker on the travel channel & also watched Court Channel.  Cold Case Files, etc.

Dale noticed in the trash barrel, at work, a kitchen faucet.  The handy man at work put a new one in at one of the Shults homes & threw away the old one.  Dale claimed it & is fixing it up.  It's a real nice one.

We were lucky at church.  We have a new organist.  It all helps to get rid of the worry -- not mine but the pastor's worry.

The pastor announced yesterday that Rose Seeley is now in the nursing home on Water St. Her sister is there.  Rose has Alzheimer's.  It was quite a shock to me.

I like your kitchen chairs.  Your pictures are very interesting.

I don't know if you recall Anne Sears.  She lived next to Arlene Hornstrom on Glenwood. Had a daughter Kathy & one son Bob.  Her husband died last week.  We worked together at Beaty.  You might see the obit in the paper.

Larry stopped by last Sat. to show us his new truck, a Mitsubishi, and it is very nice.  One side of the truck folds down for easy loading or unloading.  It is a flat front & the front cab lifts up very easily to show the motor.  It has a high step into the cat & Lar has to lift Torey up to get into it.  Torey doesn't seem to like it.  Barb took a picture but when it will be developed is another thing.  Lar said he could take a picture & send it to you.  He's very pleased with his purchase.

Our Schwan man quit after an argument with the manager.  He couldn't take it anymore.  No job in sight.  And they have several vacancies so I'm not sure when we'll get their chicken today.  I got 2 boxes today.  It is such good chicken.  The mgr. also fired the asst. mgr. because he is in the hospital having had an operation.  I'm sure the man can fight that -- no reason for a firing.  Mostly I just bo't chicken but he thanked me for being a good customer.

I mailed Valentines yesterday -- to the boys, Ruth, Millie, Gen, a friend in Gt. Falls.  I didn't send a card to her this year or last as I didn't hear from her last y ear.  A letter in a Valentine.  She is apt to skip a year.

I got a card for Andy but it probably won't get mailed til Fri.  I miss the mailbox on 5th & Conewango.

Thurs. the 10th

Lynn & Barb were talking & somehow got to talking where they were born.  Lynn was surprised to hear Barb was born in Gt. Falls Mont.  She told Lynn you & Lar were born in Auburn, Wn. & Dale in Mont as well.  Guess she didn't realize ministers could move like that.  After the merger most pastors stay in one area.  The old Augustana Synod, you could go all over the U.S.

The new Bon Appetit had 2 good recipes I copied.  One for baked French toast that you make the nite before.  Good for Christmas breakfast.  The other an apple cake that is a little different than other recipes for apple cake I have.

The topic here is the weather & how long winter has been & all the snow.  More snow today & cold weather.  Better next Fri. & Sat. & then another cold wave!  But we're talking about going to Jamestown on Fri. so I hope it does warm up a bit.

I'm watching golf in sunny & warm Calif.

Back to last Fri. with Benson's.  One of our group, Sig & Carol Decker from Kane, haven't been with us for awhile due to Carol's illness.  She has dementia & it has gotten worse.  Pat saw them in the grocery store & Carol just had a blank look.  I sure hope they can find something to help Alzheimers.  I keep wondering how Gen will take it when she will have to go into a home for more care.  Pat felt bad for her.  Carol.

They announced this A.M. that starting Mar. 15, we will have a new organist.  She has subbed for us & knows the Luth. service.  It will be so nice to have the organ.  Just hope the next good news will be a new pastor.

Finished my puzzle & started another.  This one has a lot of colored flowers so it will be hard.  But I'm in no rush.  Too hard so I started another one.

Barb looked over some of her clothes & has 2 big bags to be given to the Salvation Army.  I should do the same.  They say if you don't wear something for a y ear or so get rid of it -- they are just taking up space in the closet.  The only thing for  me -- sometimes I wish I still had a blouse I gave away.  My closet is too crowded.  I can't resist a bargain!  Sometimes they don't  turn out to be bargains -- I get carried away by the price.

Betty Casey told me today the USA would be at war this week.   She listens to an evangelist who was using Bible passage to prove his point.  It said so sin the Bible!  You can prove many things by taking Bible verses out of context.  Also did you know JoAnna is a Biblical name.  In the 3rd chapter of Luke:  "Joanna, whose husband was an officer in Herod's court...." was a follower of Jesus.  The Jo and Anna aren't separated.

I really had a good laugh when I read your letter concerning the -- what do you call them, a nose razor? It was so funny & I could imagine the situation in my mind.  Dad had such an implement & I still have it & use it at times.  Mine is a Remington make.

Mon. Feb 24

More snow & enough to shovel.  Lar was at Carey's & Dale is shovelling our walks.  Erie was having snow as well & has 125" & if it keeps snowing in March, they could pass their high mark of 150".

Got a note from Gen.  They now have a P.O. box number & John picks up the mail.  I'm sure he can keep better track of bills, etc. this way.  You could tell this letter wasn't Gen of past years.

Wed Feb 26 -

It was 3 at 6 A.M.  We are living thru a history-making period, weatherwise.  The big cities have high snow levels & low temps.  Andy & Eddie can tell their children about the snows of '03!  And the lack of snow in Wis.

Just finished a note to Gen to tell her I got the change of address.

Also made out my needs for Mar.  Fri after I get my hair done, I'll go to the bank for my monthly withdrawal.

The church makes out financial sheets & I noticed I didn't pay my pledge in full.  After checking I realized I had increased it by 5.00 but when Jan '02 came around I hadn't remembered.  So for 14 months I owed money  So I'll ad some each month to make it up.  The Lord has been good to me so it's only right to reflect that in my giving.

Someone was looking at Carey's house this A.M.

Last Sun nite H&G had a House Hunters, USA, showing buyers in New York City, San Fran. & New Orleans.  I liked it.

Thurs 27th

Had a letter from Millie yesterday. Linda was home for a weekend & they took Gen out to lunch, then to Filene's where she bo't a pair of shoes.  Millie said "I hope she will wear them."  To get out of the house Millie takes the bus to the Holyoke Mall.  Nice that she can get there but I'm sure she has to transfer along the way.  No buses go by Gen's house so she is stranded.  Maybe it's just as well as she could forget which bus to get home.  I'm glad I can still walk to get my hair done; to the library & bank.  Just waiting for nicer weather.

Sunday, October 11, 1998

Dad thanks you for his birthday card.  I roasted a chicken for his birthday dinner, mashed pot. & the last of the yellow string beans from the garden.  A birthday cake from Bilows.  His old shower "conked out" so I got him a new one.  He had quite a lot of facial hair to get rid of.

At church we finally found an organist.  She will start next Sun.  The interim organist was very good but would only fill in until we found a permanent one.  She will be available for vacations.  She was good & knew the service.

The playoffs are very interesting.  San Diego is a real surprise.  Hope they win tonite & I'll be so H A P P Y.  Sony, Andy!

Thanks for the pictures of Andy.   I like that pose so much.  I showed it to Sheila (does my hair) & she thought it was good.  The complete uniform surprised her.

I got another pen as the above writing is light but this isn't much better.  Now it is.

Dale is doing such a good job on the rust spots & a few holes on the Blazer.  Tonite he had me feel how smooth the spots he finished are.  Like silk!  You'll be surprised how nice it looks when you see it.  By then it will have a paint job.

When will you be sure if you're coming for Christmas.  If we have to mail pkgs it will make a difference in our choices of gifts.

2 Mon. ago (by the time you read this) I'm sure there were a lot of disappointed people in your household as Green Bay got beat by Minn.  We watched some of the game.  I like the earlier stat for the East Coast.

Penney's has had some sales - today I ordered from the catalog & got 30% off.  I saw a short sleeve sweater I like so ordered it.

Carol Andersen from church sent Dad a nice plant for his birthday.  She moved back to Wrrn. after her husband died so you don't know her Paul.  Dad helped a lot in visiting her elderly parents when we were first here.  Carol has always thought a lot of Dad.  She is a year older than Dad - and has a great sense of humor & can keep on in stitches.  Hope I can keep the plant without the plants dying.  There are 4 different kinds of green leaf plants.  One is ivy.  Larry could probably tell me the names of the other.  I like it a lot.

Barb is still working on the porch but hopes to be finished this week.  Has the floor to paint & a couple of the lattices.  What a relief for her.  Lar & Dale plan to build new steps.  They have step sets you can get to make it easier.  We also want to get a new rug for the steps, etc.

The city will supply the cement for new sidewalks but you have to get the workers yourself.  Lar thinks we should do that - so may be next spring we'll look into that.  The paper said many have taken advantage of this.  Have you noticed the article, Paul.

Mon. A.M. - 6:30.

This is Dale's early week - 7-4 so I'm up early.  So I should get started on things early except Barb isn't an early rise so I don't like to make too much noise.  Dad is still sleeping altho he was up earlier.  Took off his p.j.'s & depend - he does that a lot & then tries to find clothes & starts upstairs after them.  His appetite has really improved.  He received many cards from people at church for his birthday.  Nice to be remembered.

Now it's Wed the 14th.

The doorbell rang this A.M. & it was Ekey's delivering a doz. beautiful red roses.  A first in our lives - red roses.  Thanks so much for the flowers.  What a nice thought.

Mon & Tues were beautiful.  Today it is rainy & cooler.  Suppose to be a nice weekend.

Barb plans to go to Jamestown this aft.  First she has to go for some groceries & Depends for Dad.  We didn't get to go Mon. nite, as we usually do.

This A.M. I made Danish rolls - & the house smells so good from the baking.

I'm having coffee now with Halloween corn candy - my favorite.  I like Brach's best & C.V.S. has them so I got a supply!  My comfort food.

Time to get back to my chores.
