Here it is Wed. the 10th & I'm just starting a letter & no excuses. Just lazy.

Tues A.M. I got the bathroom cleaned & clean sheets for my bed before I went to an 11 AM study at church.  We're meeting twice a month now.

We'll celebrate Dale's birthday tomorrow when Lar & Kim come.  But I wanted something different tonite so ordered pizza & Pzone.  Got a classic Pzone & we all sampled it.  I liked it.

After lunch today I walked over town to get some birthday wrapping paper.  I sent to Penneys for Dockers pants & a belt for Dale.  Khaki in 34-36 & a brown belt.  Barb go him a shirt.  Dale checked the pants in the catalog & okayed them.  He chose shrimp fettuccine for his birthday dinner & apple pie for dessert.

Stopped at the library & got 2 books.  Another one by Sandra Brown, The Witness & The Upstart by Catherine Cookson.  It was a beautiful day for a walk.

Watched the Mets defeat Chicago this aft. on ESPN.  Successive homeruns by Alomar & Pizzata Piazza, whose name I should know how to spell!

With all the mistakes it doesn't take long to forget how to write.

As I said on the phone, Sheila loved the leather coat & it fit her so well.  I know she appreciates it so I was glad to give it to her.

Dale saw that the grass in the back yard is ready to be cut.  We had a nice rain yesterday.  Dale is sharpening the blades of the lawn mower so it will be ready to cut the lawn.

This week we'll be watching the Masters this weekend.  It's a beautiful golf course & we'll see if Tiger Woods will play a good game.  The USA Today shows a picture of his new Swedish girlfriend.  A cutie.  Was a nanny for Jasper Parnevik.

It's 10:30 AM Thurs. & I have to brag a bit -- after all I'm 81 years old.  I made the apple pie first this A.M. & I hope it tastes as good as it looks.  Then I showered, got dressed, made my bed, put out the garbage.  Started dinner rolls, then had my coffee & a roll.  Finished my rolls & remembered I meant to make choc. chip PB cookies so I got them made & now I'm sampling one with coffee.  Just 1 pan to wash & then I'm thru.  So I think I have a right to brag!!  Also did a load of wash.

Last nite I stayed up past my bedtime to see the Phillies beat the Braves.  In teh 11th inning with a home run.  Phillies tied it up in the 9th with a home run off Smoltz.  You can be sure I was happy!  And Toronto best the Yankees.  Former Met Venture struck out.

Think I'll mail my letters on Fri. instead of by Wed.

It's almost lunch time but I'll start a letter so I won't be tempted to try & put another piece of a puzzle together. This is a harder one with lots of darker tree colors so it's a slow process.  But a good one to make me think Y have patience.  I like things to move fast.

Last nite we went to Lar & Kim's for dinner.  At their camp.  Such a restful place with the trees, flowing water from lots of summer rains, & pretty flowers.  We got home about 9 pm in time for me to see the Mets get beat by Ariz. and for Barb and Dale to watch Nascar at Bristol, Tenn.

I bro't your letter for Kim to read.  She was anxious to hear about JoAnna & the convention.  They can really lift you up but at the same time it's good to get home & get some sleep & a more normal schedule.

Last nite we had steak, baked pot, corn on the cob & I bro't a salad & homemade rolls.  Kim made a fresh peach pie.  It was so good -- guess I should get ambitious & make one.

Teachers go to school Mon & Tues. & the kids go back on Wed.  Where has the summer gone.  It just goes too fast.

Hope your library cleaning problems are over.  Isn't it strange, but when you get a late or early A.M. telephone call you automatically think of a death.  We've had a couple of wrong numbers after all of us have gone to bed.

I almost forgot the Mets are on TV & I missed 20 min. while watching "How's That Made" on H&G.  I really enjoy listening to the Mets with Gary Thorne & Tom Seaver as announcers.  They make it so interesting with their humor & wit.  Sometimes Tom gets going on a spiel but I forget that when I like them so much.  They make me laugh.

No more visits from Kim & Torey during the week.  Kim was saying -- 3 gals go walking & Torey & they went to Betsy's house (your classmate) for coffee.  Torey went into his "pleas" or "begs" for food like he gets at Grandma's.  Cheese, ice cream & cooky or dog biscuits.  Kim tried to interest me in a part basset hound.  A lady she knows has to give him up -- it was her mother's who died -- but I'm not interested.  Not interested in visits to the vet -- don't' want my money going to the dogs!! Ha, ha.

I have to go to the bank this week to get next month's money.  I have a list as to how many 20s, 10s, etc. I'll need to make it come out right.  Sometimes it takes quite awhile for it to come out even.  Eventually I get it right.

I'm wondering if Andy is watching Tiger & golf on TV.  I'll switch once the baseball game is over & between innings.  Tiger is in a class of his own.  I bet the other golfers are happy when he takes a week or 2 off.

Kim stopped by -- Lar was busy.  Their house at camp is being eaten by squirrels -- they chew at the wood & ruining it so Lar wants to get cement shakes that look like wood to discourage them.  He'll do it himself.  They stayed overnite & were awakened by the varmints chewing the shakes.

I have golf on now but it has been delayed by rain.  Tiger has lot a couple of points but I'm sure he'll win.

Mets-Ariz. game was good.  Naturally Mets won.  On Fri. nite the Mets chased Johnson in the early innings -- they have his number.

Just made a milk shake for Dale to go with hamburgers & corn on the cob.  Barb & I ate earlier but Dale had a headache so he was taking it easy for awhile.

I'm watching golf & rooting for Phillip Price of Wales as then he'd make as much money as he did in his first 5 years of pro golf.  They are practically playing in the dark -- 8:15 our time & it gets earlier now that Fall is soon here.   I hope Andy was able to see the last few holes of the game as they were so exciting.  Both for Sutton & Tiger.

Aug. 29 - Tues.

It's 10:20 & I'm at the kitchen table watching Murder She Wrote.  I washed the kitchen floor & cleaned the bathroom & I'm thru for today.  Had my shower but it's a muggy day.

Back to the bathroom.  I keep my pail on the attic steps -- brought it out & was ready to fill it with water & I looked down and what did I see -- a bat but it was dead, but dead or alive I don't like them. Barb was still home so she took care of it.  And I cleaned the bathroom.

I'm watching the British Open with Tiger Woods in the lead.  It's wonderful golf to watch.  It will be hard to write a letter because I have to watch what Tiger does.  What a talent.

We're hearing so much about the "rages" of today.  How do parents behave at Andy and Eddie's games.

Thanks for the copy of the menu -- it means that a lot of work had to be done to have enough food for all.

Last Tues. Dale was late in coming home on his early week.  Reason, he cut his hand using a utility knife, with a new blade, cutting cardboard.  He went to the emergency room & had 3 stitches.  It is healing fine.  Had to have a tetanus shot.

Sat, yesterday, he went to Oak Express in Erie & got an oak dresser & an entertainment center, also in oak.  It looks so nice.  Together he spent $700.00.  The dresser was 1/2 price because of minor defects.  It is very attractive.  W hat a difference furniture can make in a room.

Tomorrow I have a Dr. appt.  Regular check up.

One of Kim's friends -- she teaches at Warren Hi -- was able to find a house she could afford.  She will be moving in next Sun. & Lar & Kim will help.  Kim wondered about the twin bed we got for Dad.  You can't sell (thru an ad) a used bed & we have no use for it so "Dannie" can have it.  It was covered with a plastic mat &U then with a mattress pad so it is clean & spotless.  Eddie always said it was a comfortable place to rest.  It will be one less item in the attic.

I made a blueberry coffee cake & it's good.  A batter & then you sprinkle 1 c. of blueberries.  Also made a 1 crust blueberry pie & it came out really good.  Use half of the berries mixed with sugar, water & cornstarch til it thickens, etc.  Put rest of berries in the baked shell & pour the cooked berry sauce over it & chill.  Lar had a 2nd piece as did Dale.

If you watched any of the British Open, did you notice how deep the bunkers were & so small in diameter & deep, deep, deep.

Now to baseball.  The Mets beat the Braves yesterday aft. 4-0, so I was pleased.  And tonite they are on ESPN with Jon & Joe as announcers, 2 of the best.  Gary Thorn is right up there with them.

Tiger's girlfriend is JoAnna.  And she's white.  And Tiger won -- the announcers really heaped lots of praise of Tiger for what he has accomplished.

Last Fri I saw Lauri Heckler (she's on Jefferson & used to do my hair) & next fall she will be teaching at Allegany Valley -- 2nd grade -- regular & not special ed. as she did in Tidioute.  Danny graduated from Wrrn Hi last June & Allison goes into 9th.  She said it was well worth the effort of finishing college as she loves teaching.

We've really had a cool summer, esp. this last week.  Nights are cool but it's suppose to start warming up.  68 in Buffalo now.  I wouldn't mind it a little warmer & forget the humidity.  I'm dreaming.

Still Sun.  Was sitting on the porch reading & Mr. Bonace walked by.  He told me he joined Weight Watchers & has lost 15 lbs.  He also walks morning & evenings.  He was getting heavy.

Now it's Tues A.M. & I've got my work done.  So I'm enjoying a cup of coffee, an oatmeal cooky & watching "Murder She Wrote".

Kim was telling us an 8th grade girl got caught selling Ritalin & Marisa was involved somehow.  Gossip can't be kept under control & Lynn has said nothing to Barb.  Poor Lynn with 2 problem kids.  The girl that got caught starts 9th grade in Alternative Ed. for the whole year.  According to gossip Marisa got off "because the parents have money".

Guess I've covered the news & gossip here.  Oh yes, my physical went fine.  Blood pressure OK, except I gained 3 lbs in 5 months. It's time to do something about it, I tell myself.  Time will tell what kind of self control I have.  Thyroid OK.
