I was watching golf & doing another puzzle when I needed a break.  So starting a letter is doing something different.

This A.M., I picked just about the last of the blueberries.  Maybe a large handful yet to ripen. We are enjoying tomatoes from the garden.  Also made a pumpkin pie & potatoe salad to go with hamburgers tonite.  Also corn on the cob.  We'll also have steaks either Sun. or Mon.

Barb went to Jamestown this A.M. -- she needed groceries from Wegman's.  She got some nice looking local corn there for 6/1.00.  Pretty good price.

Dale had a headache this A.M.  Wanted to go to Jamestown this aft. but he took some aspirin that got rid of his headache but left him with a "buzz" feeling, so he decided to sit in the sun & get more tan on his body.  It was his Sat A.M. to work but Shults is closed this weekend.

Boy, the Mets sure have taken a dive but they are still my team.

I've been watching the Weather Channel & feel for Fla with another storm Francis on the way. Maybe some folks will think twice before moving to Fla.


Wed. Sept 8

I was in bed at 9 pm last night.  Why so early, you wonder.  Mon. nite I couldn't get to sleep until early A.M. hours.  I did my work including washing the kitchen floor.  Also took 3 cat naps (1/2 hr) thru the day.  Today I'm well rested but lazy.  Worked on my puzzle & just finished while watching Perry Mason.  No lost pieces, either.  We're having tacos for supper & that is easy.  This aft. I made 2 batches of cookies.  Choc. chips & a new one with brown sugar, oatmeal & coconut plus the regular ingredients, so I wasn't completely lazy.  I sample them twice with coffee.

We're getting rain & the temperatures will be in the 60's.  Nice to sleep with a blanket on.

Had a letter from Millie.  She had a call from Gen who told Millie "I didn't know Barbara had cancer."  It must have been a bad day as she called many times to ask about Barb.  I don't see how Gen can be alone nights.  Lots of time they walk out & get lost.  I hope Gen stays home, & doesn't wander out.

I always read the library's Bookworm.  Interesting to read to see what is going on.  Sounds like it was an exciting summer for the library.

I had taco ingredients for lunch when you were here, but we ate out so they never got used. Barb & Dale like them & along with a salad it makes an easy meal for me to prepare.  I will freeze the leftover meat & it will make a nice & different lunch for Barb & Dale.

Dale talks a lot about Max who has a shop in Frewsburg for repairing cars.  Tonite Max stopped by to ask Dale to cut something for him.  Dale has said a lot about him -- an endless talker, divorced, a grandfather, is 43, has problems with women.  He isn't at all the picture formed in my mind.  He is short with dark curly hair & nice looking  I pictured an older man -- maybe not too neat & he is the opposite.

Thurs. Sept 9

Kim & Lar were here.  No special news.  Kim was meeting the "girls" for a nite out.  A glass of wine & talk.  The others would order more.

We had 4" of rain & some in the basement.  More cracks need to be fixed.  The ones Dale just fixed worked as no leaks there..  We got a few puddles -- imagine what homes in Fla. have to put up with.

Soon Andy will be 17!  Hard to believe.

I didn't start a letter yesterday because I was reading.  Vegas Rich was the book I read on Sat. finishing it at 12 A.M.  It was so good.  On Sun. I started Vegas Heat & finished it this A.M.  A trilogy so the next book I get will be Vegas Sunrise.  Ten I'll look for a 4 series set Rich Rich, Texas Heat, Texas Fury & Texas Sunrise.

Sat. nite Lar & Kim, Betsy Moran & her husband & Kathy & her husband who now live in Erie, drove their sports cars to Bemus Point for dinner.  At 4 pm, Kim bro't Torey over to stay with us, & picked him up at 9:30 P.M.  He missed them & goes to the door tot look for them but he is good.

Today we're having thunder showers & the same for Tues. & Wed.

This year we'll be getting blueberries from our bush.  Dale got nets to cover them & Barb picked a few today.  Hatch Patch had corn last week & we got some but they were small ears with not much taste. I think they were picked too soon.  We'll try again for Thurs. when I plan to have hamburgers.  Probably potato salad & Barb wants macaroni.  A picnic meal.

Yesterday was the last Sun. for the interim pastor.  We'll have visiting pastors in Aug. & maybe a new pastor in Sept.

Tues. A.M.

We had about 3 1/2" of rain Mon.  Of course, the basement is puddled.  I tried to wipe up & Dale finished the job.  This A.M. I saw water in the other side so I swept it toward the drain & put the fan over there to hep dry it out.  This is Dale's long day so I try to hep him a bit. Yesterday I tried mopping it up & got 2 buckets of water.  Franklin had 6-8" of rain.  Our streets downtown were filled with water for awhile.  Mt. Jewett had winds of 80 mph & part of the Kinzua Bridge came down.  It is closed as they were working to restore it.  Wonder what happens now with tight funds.

4 men, including Mr. Bonace, tried to stop work on the Court House -- they have been updating it & they sued the Commissioners to stop work & they lost the case.  I'm happy it went against them. They are always trying to stop progress.  They are also against the new grade school.  Another group is suing the school board.  If you can't get your way, sue.  That happens too much!!!

Tues. the 22nd

More rain -- more water in the basement.  The TV showed that the middle of the Kinzua Bridge came down -- only the ends are left.

WOW!  The Mets beat the Phillies last nite AND this aft.  Last nite with a young pitcher -- 1st win & this aft. Trachsel beat Millwood.

Golf was exciting last Sun. when a rookie won.  Ben Curtis.  He's a happy guy.

Today's USA has an interesting story of a young hockey player Jordan Tootoo who lives in Rankin Inlet, Nunavit just below the Arctic Circle.  Only way in by boat or airplane.  An Inuit. Very interesting.

I'm enclosing some pictures Barb took about the flowers, etc.

We're seeing sunshine at times.  This is the weekend at the lake.  Have a good time, rather I know you had a good time.  I forgot to ask you  to ask about Ruth.  Is she at the same address, etc.  I know I waited too long.

Got your letter today.  Interesting newspaper article & a nice picture of JoAnna.

I didn't watch either political convention & always mute any commercials.

I sent that article to get your thoughts about the article & porn.  In this letter I'm enclosing an article from the Buff. Sun. paper concerning how hard it is to collect fines & books that are way overdue.  Do you have these problems.

\This A.M. I started to make dinner rolls.  Then I finally called for an appt. to have my teeth cleaned & checked.  Nothing until March but she said she'd check cancellations.  I could have had an A.M. appt. but that wouldn't work -- rolls would be ready for forming &  baking.  Had 2 aft. appts. & I took the 3:30 pm.  Got in right away & didn't have to wait long for Dr. Walters to check my teeth so I was home in an hr.  This time I made an appt. for May.  I don't get a lot of tartar on my teeth & other problems are usually a lost filling.  So that's out of the way now.

I also picked a qt. of blueberries from the 2 bushes in the yard.  They are really producing this year.

Called Gen last week.  They are fine.  Not much of a garden th is summer -- too much rain & deer & wild turkey are helping themselves.  They planted blueberries but they don't have many berries at all.  Gen said John would like to have a girlfriend but he doesn't know how to treat  girl.  He is too stingy with his money.  Should be more like Ed -- generous & interested in someone else instead of centering on himself.  I'm glad I had 4 children so you could learn give & take.

Kim was surprised to read how much it cost to register Andy in school.  Barb said it's a preview of college expenses.  They don't pay for anything here but Kim thinks it won't be long before they will have to charge for sports.

Carol Stedman (now married) is living in the old Parish House on Water St.  A couple of times I've walked home on 2nd Ave & seen her & she always speaks -- I don't know her personally -- but Lar & Barb do.  Lar & Kim were out to eat & Carol saw them & came over & gave Lar a big kiss & then talked for quite a while & didn't include Kim.  Kim wasn't very happy & wondered why Lar didn't introduce her.  I think Lar was too surprised to.  So Carol doesn't rate very high on her list.  Kim played golf last Sat & Lar didn't do any extra work because of a sore back.  Kim told him it's better to take a couple of days off rather than not work for 2 weeks.  So Sat. nite Lar & Torey walked over (Kim got home at 7 pm) to see "Grandma".  As soon as Tor was here, he looked all over for Kim.  They weren't here too long as they were going out to eat once Kim got home.  She was home before Lar & she figured they were over here.

I decided to quit reading for awhile & I'm putting a 1000 pc. puzzle together.

I'm watching Paramedics, one of my favorite programs.  It's from Phoenix tonite.

Heard on TV that Washington State is trying to interest children in reading by varying the library cards -- maybe more colorful, or a picture, etc.  Do you think that would help.  I can remember my Dad sitting in his chair reading the newspapers with Nifty (dog) on his lap.  My mother never had much spare time to read but I've always loved to read & still do.

Catherine Coulter's books are so good.  I must have her mixed up with another author as I thought her books were about Scotland, but they take place in San. Fran. or other Calif. areas.

We had hamburgers & corn on the cob for supper.  An easy meal in case my time at the dentist took longer.  The corn has been so good.  They surely planted a lot knowing people will pay 3.99 for 13 ears.  They've always been good for us.

Also got some peaches. I'd like to try to make a peach cobbler.

Have a couple of bills to mail tomorrow so will bring this to an end & have it ready to mail.

I'm taking "five" after cleaning upstairs.

It's much cooler so I guess summer is over & fall is in the air.  I don't mind that.

We're really getting blueberries from the bushes Lar planted many years ago.  T hey are good.  But instead of a blueberry pie, I'm in the mood for pumpkin pie.

I've found some new authors.  Finished Bird Cage by Victor Canning & liked it.  Others are Susan Dunlap, Dorothy Cannell.  It thought I lost my library card, got a new one & then found the one I tho't I'd lost so now I have 2.  Is that illegal Paul?

Also I've been enjoying reruns of Matlock at 10 AM & 12:30 pm.

We didn't do much on Labor Day.  Bob Vila was on A&E all day (7AM - 8PM) so I watched most of it - a complete program of building a house in New England & the renovation of a graystone apt. in Chicago.  It was fascinating & the results so beautiful.

Dad's been scraping parts of the house for painting & found some spots where the siding needs to be replaced.  So he's on his way to the lumber yard for what he needs.  Hope we have a nice Fall as it takes him longer to get things done now but at least he is trying.

Another reason I like the cooler weather is it's easier to use the tread mill.  We are still faithful in using it.

Fri A.M. I see Dr. Fino for a check up.  No problems.  The following week I see Dr. McNett for my annual physical.  Can't think of any problems.

Edna had a nice 80th birthday.  I called her & she is doing all right.  Naturally she tired easily.  She was watering plants when I called & earlieri she had watered the lawn.

Baseball is soon over & it can't be soon enough for the Mets but we're still faithful to them!!!

All is fine here.
