Didn't write this A.M. Did some baking instead, & fixed a tuna macaroni salad for supper. Never know what to have Fri. nite.
This A.M. the doorbell rang & it was a delivery from Ekey's. Thanks so much for the floral arrangement. It is very pretty I will enjoy it. Thanks so much.
We'll be celebrating Larry's birthday on Sun. He wants steak & that is easy - Dale will grill it. Kim will get a cake at BiLo's - they are very tasty - icing not too sweet. It's suppose to be a rainy weekend. We've already had more than 2" in May.
Dale bot an '86 Blazer for his next winter's car. He paid 300.00 for it. It will keep him busy getting it in order during the summer. He sold the other winter car to someone at work who bot it for his son. It is a good car - in good working order with new tires, A.C., etc.
I've been watching the hockey playoffs & they are exciting. Barb & Kim are watching the Bulls playoffs & are sad when they lose. We'll eat at 5:30 Sun. & the game starts at the same time. The TV will be on & if it gets exciting they'll be up & down to see what's going on. I think Larry Bird is doing a great job as a 1st year coach. I'd like to see them get to the final games.
Have a new recipe for a Pecan Bar - similar to Pecan pie. It is do good. Kim copies the recipe & made it & Larry likes them. Dad got a haircut this week & I made the bars & gave them to Jerry. Do that each time he comes to the house to show our appreciation.
Barb came home today & went to take a nap as she didn't sleep well last nite. We'll grocery shop tomorrow after I get my hair done.
I'm feeling much better so I hope I can get more work done around the house. Finally vacuumed the L.R. & D.R. rugs. For awhile it hurt to push the vacuum cleaner, so it didn't get done.
I can see a hummingbird at the tree at the school yard - a flowering crab. The buds are not quite opened - it is pretty to look at.
Soon time to get busy setting the table, etc.
P.S. Barb got rid of her headache so we went grocery shopping. I needed to cash a check but the bank closed at 6. Barb had money to lend me so I was able to go to County. San Diego is ahead of Atlanta 3-0 in the 3rd inning. Hope they get a win - S.D. that is.
Until July 2010, when her eyesight deteriorated, my mother wrote 1000s of chatty letters during her lifetime - to her parents, in-laws, sisters, children, friends. Tho she started to write to me on a regular basis in Sept '68 when I began my freshman year at SUNY-Buffalo, it wasn't until 10 years later that I decided to hold onto them. (Very inconsistently at first, to which the big gaps between dates attest.) These are the letters transcribed, annotated, and otherwise highlighted here.

We've had snow today but not enough to shovel. Enough to let us know winter is on the way.
Dave Blair called to check on your address, Paul. It is your 30th high school reunion next summer. My, but time flies!
Larry & Kim come over for supper every Thurs. It gives me something to look forward to & to plan a little beetter meal -- dessert, etc.
Dad got a haircut today. Jerry comes to the house so I have cookies for him. He is divorced for the 2nd time. She wanted to be free to date, etc. He has the 2 girls & is a good father & nice guy.
Cathleen Rossey died & was buried on Tues. Cancer. She hadn't had a checkup since Randy was born & then the cancer was too far gone. Her oldest son Rex is Barb's age & Randy a few years younger. She was 72.
Carey's are back from a visit to their condo in Fla. Lar said they want to downsize - meaning to get a smaller house. So I wonder if we'll have more new neighbors. Lots of changes. It's a nice home. Mary Ann once said she'd sell it for $150,000.
My washer, dryer, & dishwasher are about 15 yrs old. And I want to get new ones while I still have some of Edna's money she gave me. Barb said she'd like to change the paper in the laundry area so I'll let her do the work. She doesn't like that paper. The cupboards need painting. Sanding & painting. It will be nice to have quieter appliances. Lar will take the washer & dryer to use for his dirty work clothes. Haven't looked around. The Maytag have required very little maintenance but I'd like to checkout Sears. A Sears appliance store is suppose to open in the complex where Struthers was.
Walmart talked about having a store in Starbrick but the plans fell thru. The property is too swampy.
I got my Christmas club cehck so I'm ready to start shopping. Have done some already. Suggestions are needed!! Family gift or separate for Paul & JoAnna. I've got to start checking tree lights as we put the tree up after Thanksgiving. Then Christmas cards, etc. etc. A fun time.
Again we want nto say we're very proud of JoAnna & what the article had to say. How did you get so lucky Paul to find such a wonderful wife, as well as have 2 fine sons. You have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, as we do also.

My work is completed - I'm having a coffee break so will start a letter.
Barb & Scottie just stopped by on their way to BiLo. On Thurs. aft. she takes Scottie to the therapist to encourage him to talk. He goes twice a week - Lynn takes him on Tues & Barb on Thurs. & then Barb gets to drive the Ford Bronco.
Had my yearly physical & blood test & all is well.
We've had a beautiful Sept. Clear days with blue skies. We'll take all we can get. Rain could be in the future.
We have to get our kitchen rug cleaned & we'll try a new cleaner. Kim said different ones say this cleaner does a better job. Owned & run by women!
We've been watching the series on Baseball & find it so very interesting. I like the historical part. Finding out that some of the early stars weren't very nice players - dirty players.
It doesn't seem possible but in 3 months it will be Christmas. I've tho't about it a little. First Halloween & Thanksgiving.
The rug will be cleaned Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Dad hasn't gotten out to get a hair cut so he asked Lar to trim his hair. They come for supper tonite so maybe he'll do it then. He can't work as long as it gets dark by 8.
Not much happening here but wanted to send you the e3nclosed newspaper clipping.
Love from all to you all.
