Did you go to church today & get your palms???
This aft we watched the Mets lose again. Hope things will change. I'm ordering their yearbook. Tonite we're watching Texas at Minn. Texas has improved. Their mgr. is a former Met!
Dad saw the Dr. on Fri & Mon. he starts treatments. It only takes a few moments & he has to have them everyday for a month.
Fri. Dale was 35 yrs old & we went out to dinner at the Holiday Inn. They serve excellent food & we enjoyed the outing. They sang Happy Birthday & took a picture with a Polaroid camera & served a small birthday cake. When we picked up Lar & Kim we went early so we could see the finished addition. It is so nice. You'll be surprised at what was accomplished.
JoAnna have you come down to earth yet? You worked hard for your victory & we are proud of you. It will be interesting to hear all about it when you are here.
I'm enclosing an article on the situation in Salamanca. They are also a matriarchal society. Thought you might be interested in the situation.
Allie Peterson died last week & was buried on Thurs. Born in 1892. She was a widow since 1932. That was a long time. The pastor also had a funeral earlier in the week for a 4 yr. old boy killed in an auto accident on a snowy nite. Mother was badly hurt but is improving. 2 broken ankles.
And Cindy Andersen Farnham is dying of cancer. Could be anytime. 2 daughters - Jenny who is in the 2nd year of college & Christie who is a senior in high school. It's so sad. Martha Andersen's daughter.
You should have the pkg. Dad mailed last Sat. Hope the clothes fit OK.
We had a touch of summer & Dale is driving his El Camino again. He doesn't drive it in the winter. Can't be touched with salt. He is so proud of that car. It is really cold tonite but I hope we have a nice Easter.
Looking forward to your trip & having you home for awhle.
Did I say Signe & Geo. sold their house & will move in this week even tho the closing (house) won't take place until the 24th.
Until July 2010, when her eyesight deteriorated, my mother wrote 1000s of chatty letters during her lifetime - to her parents, in-laws, sisters, children, friends. Tho she started to write to me on a regular basis in Sept '68 when I began my freshman year at SUNY-Buffalo, it wasn't until 10 years later that I decided to hold onto them. (Very inconsistently at first, to which the big gaps between dates attest.) These are the letters transcribed, annotated, and otherwise highlighted here.

Time for another letter. The storm missed us this time & we’re happy. N.Y.C & Boston sure have been hit as well as many other areas. We watch N.Y. news & they are at a standstill & don’t know where to put all the snow.
Had an eye exam last week, needed a change so got new glasses. Should have them next week. Dad had an exam today & he’ll be getting new glasses. He doesn’t blink his eyes enough & that causes the eyes to dry out & give him trouble.
We love our new R.C.A. 26” T.V. Got it in time for the Super Bowl & now for the Olympics.
The tub & surround are in the bathroom, otherwise it’s bare as Lar is putting in a new floor. Next will be sizing the walls, paint the ceiling, wallpapering so it shouldn’t be too much longer. Lar is doing a wonderful job.
When I exercise I like to read, etc. as time passes faster. Decided to memorize the Nicene Creed & surprised myself by getting it done in a week. When I was at A.I.C. I was suppose to memorize a Psalm as Bible was a course you had to take & I didn’t do a very good job. So I decided to prove to myself that I can do it.
Lar & Dad are carrying up to the bathroom the new cabinet. It’s going to be so nice. Not quite as big as the one we had & won’t hold as much. I’ll have to go over my towels, etc. & get rid of worn ones.
Tori has been here quite often & I let him up on the davenport (cloth over it) & he likes to stand up & look out the window. When he goes upstairs to see Lar he also like to jump on our bed (watching T.V. also).
Tues A.M. Breakfast time.
Heard from June – she is in Texas. Anita’s son Stacy & wife had twins, a boy & a girl. Jane visits her kids during the winter months.
Lar has the sink & cabinet in & it looks so nice. He’s on the home stretch.
It’s warming up so there will be a melting. Hope we’ve had all our snow.
The outfit I got Eddie – size 4 – will be sent soon, as there weren’t any size 5 left. It should be OK for awhile. It’s so cute, I didn’t want to exchange it.
Want to get this in the mail so will quit. We go grocery shopping t his A.M.

Received your letter & info, Paul. Dad took it to the paper & a small item ensued. A picture would have been nice -- evidentally they couldn't use the one in the info.
Signe & Geo. called Thurs nite to tell us a cousin -in-law died. Robert Holmberg's wife. He died last Fall - was 93 & she was 88. She was Eva's sister-in-law. Someone likes S & G's house but nothing definite yet. The retirement house is still waiting. 2 other couples are in the same fix - wanting to move to the retirement center.
Last nite the 6 of us went out to dinner (family). Mineral Well has reopened & is doing well, served good food & is getting a good crowd. We all enjoyed ourselves. Dad & Dale had steaks & enjoyed them. Lar had shish-kabobs & said they were really good.
Barb & I have been checking the sales & we found 2 cute outfits for the boys. We'll send them for a Valentine - will send it to the library.
I'm getting over a cold. Didn't go to church last Sun (5th) nor to L.C.W. Mon. nite. Feel fine now.
Lots of excitement in the Buffalo area & it spills over to surrounding areas. We're rooting for Buffalo, but not Dale who says people weren't for them when they were losing so why now. He's a Steeler fan only. He roots for Denver. Boo! Boo! Buffalo all the way.
I received a colored folder from the Mets with a large picture of Jeff Torborg & a smaller inset of Bonilla in the corner. Inside more pictures of Eddie Murray, HoJo, Doc Gooden, .Vince Coleman. Plus their schedule & info on tickets. It's nice!!!! A keepsake.
Signe & Geo. also said Charles' eyesight is very bad & can hardly see. Might need an operation.
Still no snow to speak of but cold weather is forecast to come Tues. aft. We've had very mild weather for Jan.
Barb had her hair colored this past week & liked the results. Looks nice.

It is a snowy day - we can get up to 12 inches. But the Eastern part of the State is getting more.
Dale left last nite (after work) to go to Rochester, N.Y. for 2 days of schooling. Hope travel will be better tomorrow. The hard snow fall didn't start til after Tues 12 A.M. I shoveled this A.M. & mid-A.M. Dad went out again.
I got a puzzle out & started one last nite. Today I'm not doing much. We knew today would be bad so we went grocery shopping yesterday.
Barb had her hair cut - similar to your length, JoAnna. Sheila did it and Barb was satisfied. We all like it.
I'm watching an old movie "A Kiss in the Dark" & it's cute. Barb has always wanted the video "Bringing Up Baby" & in some materials Dale got, I noticed they had it & ordered it for her. We had a nice holiday. Took our tree down on New Year's Day so things are back to normal. Barb got a $100.00 Bon Ton gift certificate from Lynn so both Fri & Sat, we went shopping. She got a nice sweater, matching pants & a pr. of jeans. The sweater is very attractive & looks nice on her.
I looked but didn't find anything I really wanted.
We had planned to order the tub & surround, etc. but the weather interfered. Lar also had a project for the apt. The wall that divided the room that was their bedroom & now the D.R. will be removed to make an L-shaped room. It will open up the area & on the end Lar will build shelves (for Kim's Santa collection) and a desk for the computer. It will be nice when it's finished.
Your new van sounds wonderful. We have seen an ad on TV regarding how seats move, etc. Bet the boys like having their own seat. Forgot to ask about the color of the interior.
My puzzle is calling so I'll bring this to a close.
We love you all so much.

I know you'll have a gay Christmas watching the boys "tear into" their gifts.
I've made cookies & plan to make a couple more batches plus some candy. That is for next week.
We think our tree is pretty & now we have the gifts under the tree so we know Christmas is close. Cards are arriving & it's great hearing from friends.
We're having rain today & warm temps & tomorrow is suppose to be much colder, windy & snow flurries. Hope the snow stays away until we're home with Barb.
Yesterday I got "H is for Homicide" & look forward to reading it. Started a book by Simon Brett, a new author to me & it's good. A murder mystery.
I seem to be "written out" so will close & wish you all the Merriest of Christmas & Happiest of New Year. It surely will be a busy one but you are happy with all your duties.
Did you open the pkg & get Eddie's stocking & did you see the calendar?
Sat. at the airport.
It couldn't be a worse day - hard winds & snow flurries. But the plane left Pittsburgh but they haven't heard when they'll arrive. Hope it's a larger plan or they'll be blown around. Wonder how it was when you left Milwaukee. Lots of snow is predicted - late tonite, Sun & into the new week.
Barb arrived safe & sound. She looks good.

My 3rd letter today. Had a Thanksgiving card & note from Millie so I wrote to her, & also to Gen.
Larry & Debra's baby son is Jeffrey Chad. Weighed in at 9 lbs & 21 1/2 " long. A big boy.
I have a list to write about so here goes.
1) Janick's is going out of business. Is having sales & they'll last into the new year.
2) I finished a hard 1000 pc. puzzle, the one with different shades of violet flowers. It took me awhile but I did it. Also in the paper different agencies listed needs of some people. An elderly shut in couple would like puzzles to work so I tho't I called & find out where to bring some 500 pc. puzzles. Another one would like yard to make mittens. I don't have much left but found some.
3) The suggestions (Christmas) came too late as I start my shopping as soon as I get my C. Club check. But I've filed them for the future. Andy has more gifts than Eddie but Eddie's toy was more expensive but I plan to put more money in his card so I he needs something you can get it, or else bank it.
Our cable charge is going up but to even it off they'll add T.N.T.
I have some of my decorations out & we will put the tree up the end of the week. Larry put up the lights on the outside shrubs by the D room. Many outside lights decorations up already.
You should see the house Carters are building - the lot on Verbeck & Conewango by Joyce O'Conner. Brick & it's going to be beautiful. Mrs. Carter (nee Blair) died & left her money to her son. He & his wife are divorced so he moved to the family home & this house is being built for his father - the senior Carter. This Carter (Louis) quit New Process when he inherited.
We had a nice Thanksgiving & we played Scattergories.
Did I write we washed the kitchen & ceiling walls 2 weeks ago. Planned to wash the L.R. tomorrow but I'm lazy so we'll do it after the holidays. Tomorrow I'd like to go to Jamestown if the weather is OK. This past week the only thing we did was go out to Perkins Sat. nite. So I'm raring to go somewhere different.
Dale is feeling better but he has really been hurting. His medication cost $150.00 but insurance covers it. Lucky for him. Lots of soreness & itching.
We hope to send the Christmas box by the end of the week. Wrapped gifts today.
I've covered it all.

Time to write letters. Thanks for your letter, Barbara. The pictures are so darling. Dad sent his film off to be developed so I'll send them when they come.
Did Andy get the package from The Nesting Place. The one I ordered wasn't available so they sent another one in its place. Like Superman - she said it wasn't available to the public very often. Hope he likes it.
Janick's has reopened but I haven't been in.
Kim & the gals in exercise class hit the lottery for 333.00 so each one got 33.00.
For Christmas Kim plans to get Andy the V.C.R. "The Rescuers Down Under". Just tho't I'd alert you so you won't get it.
The new brick house on East St, the one where the wife refused to move into - it was sold to the ones who bot the house on 2nd Ave, next to Market St. School. So that house is now rental & they moved into the new house. Cost $210,000 to build & was sold for $250,000. The buyers are friends or known to Carlene & her husband. Remember.
I'm working on a 1000 pc. puzzle - not the hardest, but it is mostly grays - "Arizona Watertower". Brick, trees & grays. I'm getting there but I've plenty of time so no rush.
Fri A.M. Kim & I are invited to see Karen S's new home. Rose will be there, too. I had mentioned to Kim maybe we could go over some A.M. & Kim must have said something to Karen. In Church on Sun. she invited me. I'm anxious to see it.
Kim & Lar will be home for Christmas.
No more news.
